When Adelaide was asked by Opeila to volunteer for an afternoon study session for a boy named George Henry's detention, she couldn't say no. The Ravenclaw liked studying, and getting to laugh at someone for getting into trouble was just the icing on the cake. That's why she currently found herself in the second floor classroom on a Friday afternoon, waiting for the mysterious George Henry to show up.

When he did show up, things escalated faster than Adelaide could keep up with. One of the volunteers, Bubba, asked Henry to demonstrate the Flipendo charm which resulted in a chair flying backward and slamming into the wall, making Adelaide jump slightly. When George asked if they wanted to try it, Adelaide smiled at him sweetly, speaking for the first time since she sat down in this classroom, "I think I'd like to Flipendo you into a wall," she then turned to Opeila, "that was a joke," she clarified.

Another prefect, Alan entered, then Quinn asked George to demonstrate him the smokescreen spell, Bubba tried to rile George up, Clair asked for him to demonstrate the levitation charm and then Opeila had an outburst. Fair enough, Adelaide thought, things were really getting out of hand. And very quickly. Maybe this wasn't a great idea after all. "What the bloody hell is going on here?" Adelaide breathed in exasperation. She turned to George, "Right, George, and no, I'm not calling you Professor Henry, I think I'd actually rather spend a night with an Acromantula, do you have the mental age of a 10 year old boy? Aren't you like a third year? Maybe you should wise up a bit," she shrugged, "just saying."

Admittedly, the blonde was shocked at what June had to say next, and George's reaction wasn't what she was expecting. Sure, she'd only known him for approximately 10 minutes, but she had quickly dubbed him as a foolish and immature boy, but clearly June had struck a nerve. Honestly, Adelaide felt a tiny bit of sympathy for the boy. He was red-faced, clearly very embarrassed, and she had noticed the beginning of tears welling in his eyes. Maybe she could help somehow, avert the attention from June's particularly harsh blow. "Actually, George, I was wondering if you could demonstrate the Mending Charm, Reparo? I've had quite a bit of difficulty with that spell, and can't seem to get it just right." That was a complete lie, Adelaide found the spell very simple, but at least she could say she attempted to help the boy by making him, and hopefully everyone in the room, focus on something else.

----Vale did not expect to be invited to a study session by her own broom racing captain, especially not after how she faired in the race against the Hufflepuffs. Now she was to learn something from one? But what would a Hufflepuff possibly teach little ol' Vale, who can memorize the entire chemistry table and chemical equations that would ensure chaos and death to those around her?

Quite a lot actually, when she finally wandered into the classroom for the designated study session and found furniture being destroyed and flung about. The first year moved in after others, observing the destruction around her with a large smile before it came to a solemn end at the issued warning from her broom racing captain. The voice of June Selwyn spoke out, questioning the George Henry that Vale only learned about not too long ago. Trapping people? In dangerous situations? Possibly, a new friend?

"Oh! To think a Hufflepuff is able to spread misery and pain! Such terror!" Vale spoke out, holding a doll in her hands along with a notebook and feather pen for her planned study session. As she can see, she knew she wasn't going to learn anything requiring such for the time being. "How thoughtful of you to make sure your fellow peers are able to keep warm on what may have been a cold day!" Spell casting was banned, and Vale found that utterly disdainful. And not in a way to which it would please the Ashwood blood in her. In fact, it made her mad. Upset. Bloodthirsty even.

"No spell-casting at all? Not even setting something on fire?" Vale was suddenly in fumes, baring her teeth at the sudden use of authority even meant in good nature. "All these rules! Rules, rules! Nothing but rules that we have to follow! We can't ever have fun! I barely get enough from broom racing! Forget these rules! We're putting it to a vote! I vote nay to spell-cast banning!"

Clair watched as things happened, and they happened fast!
Some people seemed to want to cause trouble, Others seemed to be wanting to get revenge for past troubles, and then there were the few who seemed to want to help, or at least try to help.
Clair was here to Learn, she did not care about starting a fight, or about getting any laughs. No. Clair was here to learn, and that was not happening right now.

Just when it seemed that everything was getting at it's max, a Slytherin Girl seemed to ask a question which changed the mood, like changed it a lot.
Clair felt the mood change, and as she seen tears form in the boy's eyes she felt bad for him.
For once, she had no idea what they were talking about, but she did not care. she wanted to day 'hey that was not very nice.' to the girl (June) but she felt like that might make George more upset.
So instead she sighed and went with a better approach.
She took in a deep breath and thought for a moment, before she spoke.
"Professor Henry" might as well use it, if it made him happier, "Because this is a Study Group" she glared at the rest of the students who had not been asking questions about Homework.
"I came with a question that I really must know, it will help me with my next Broom Race I'm sure.
Should I work on spells that are defense? or Offense?" She really was not sure what she was saying, she only hoped it would put the detention back on track.

Alan somewhat enjoyed the chaos, but he felt bad as he noticed the struggle for control from Opeila. Though he felt it was not going bad and he was quite convinced that George would not go around randomly attacking any of the students. But this breezy atmosphere would not last long as one particular student spoke up and chose words that made even Alan's blood somewhat chill. Alan froze for a moment, as he narrowed his eyes.

He was unfamiliar with the girl who had spoken the words, but for sure noticed the shift in the air and in George. Instinctively he stepped somewhat closer to him and therefore closer to June as well. "I don't believe we have met. You probably are not aware, considering you weren't there and have decided to go by some rumors you have heard, but are you aware what really went down that day? Alan asked the girl and gave a glance at George.

"I think it is time for a small history lesson,"

The fifth year gave a slight nod in George's direction, hoping he was alright. But he knew there was no good in approaching the situation in a brash manner. It also was not really his style. He didn't think the first year had any ill intention when she had asked the question. But not having proper information on a topic, could be quite dangerous, especially if one decided to act on their limited knowledge. Of course he himself was not present in the location, but he was at the school at the time and he had been around and heard from people who actually had been there. The rest he had been able to piece together himself.

"On one quite eventful evening, there happened to be a fiery explosion in the Hufflepuff common room. Fire began to spread relentlessly, the wooden interior of the house didn't help with that at all. A lot of students tried to flee through the common room, however due to the flames and panic the floor was slowly collapsing and some unfortunate students happened to fall down," Alan started and took a sigh. He took another glance at George before facing the first years again. "Those students were already trapped, without their brooms and no other way up and out, they were trapped. However the fire was not done, we know fire and its hungry destruction well at Hogwarts. Well imagine one scared boy, your age mind you, sees all of this happening with the fire continuously burning through the ground, destroying their escape route and threatening even more students to fall down and get trapped, trying to come up with a plan to help. The young boy decided to mend the flooring, so that students might escape, so that students who had fallen aren't at risk of a collapsing ceiling and so that no more students would fall down..."

Alan had been speaking calmly as he let his gaze wander over the students until he finally ended up looking at June with a slight smile. It was a nice smile with no ill intention or bad meaning. "Don't you think it was rather heroic, for someone your age, to face such a dangerous situation with the safety of his pupils in mind? I am sure you did some research on the matter, but those were re-tellings of an old story and rumors, next time you should try to approach things more carefully, before you accuse someone of ill intentions," he offered gently, but firm. "And of course I cannot force you, but I believe you owe someone an apology," He was not gonna stand for someone to be spreading such rumors and half stories, those were harmful and it hurt him to see how affected George had been by her claim. He hadn't expected anyone to bring up such an old event but apparently George still carried the guilt with him, by the impact her question had on him. Alan didn't quite understand why he was feeling guilty in the first place, as his reaction had been completely reasonable in his panicked state of mind.

"You okay?" he asked George softly, facing the Hufflepuff with concern.

Deciding that he didn't want to get stuck in a detention of his own, Bubba wisely decided to return to his seat. He had heard the barrage of questions from the other first years and had absolutely no interest in them. He had already mastered most of the first-year spells and if he was going to actually be taught something, he hoped it'd be a bit more interesting. He sat back down in the chair next to the Slytherin girl named June that he really didn't know. He could've sworn she had cast him a furtive dirty look. Then she spoke up, "I would like to know how and why you trapped your classmates under the floor of a burning room and didn't get expelled."

Bubba had heard it talked about before, but he had never experienced it. The record scratch moment, where everything around you just stops on a dime. He turned and gaped at her, and then turned to George. The charming rogue he thought he liked that he now looked on with absolute disdain. He didn't even know what to do, what to say, he was just numb. He had never talked about it, but his sister had died in a fire. He didn't talk to anyone, literally anyone about it. Not a soul knew except for his father and his best friend. He was eight, his sister was 14. She was watching him and a fire broke out in their house. She tried to put the fire out and he had run out.

He looked over at the other old boy named Alan that he'd seen but never met, he was pretty sure he was a prefect too. He sat there, still numb, as Alan admonished June, then Alan told the story. Bubba just sat there. He felt his chest tighten and his breathing grow shallow. A cold sweat had broken out on him. It was almost like he was there, it was taking all of his self-control not to relive it.

He listened to Alan's story, and his admonishment of June while he felt himself calming down. After Alan asked if George was ok, Bubba leaned over to June and whispered, just loud enough for her to hear, "When I was eight, my sister died in a fire." He paused, trying to keep his voice low and even, "If you said something like that to me, I'd have lit the tree on fire." He leaned back over and looked straight ahead, looking through everyone and everything.

Oh.

Oh.

The triumphant look on June's face lasted so, so briefly. The atmosphere seemed to suck the air out of June's lungs. It was as if her words had brought a dementor into the room.

That was not what was supposed to happen.

George blankly stared into June's eyes. His eyes were shiny, wet. Damn it. That wasn't supposed to hurt him. June sat back down slowly.

"Um, r-right. Don't panic, got it." June began scribbling "don't panic" repeatedly on her parchment that she had in front of her.

Don't panic don't panic don't panic don't panic don't panic don't panic...

June looked up, momentarily pausing her repetitions as the second prefect addressed her. And she listened. Intently. She felt her stomach churn in horror, her eyes grow wide, aghast. The student who told her about this certainly left all of that out. Oh, no. Now June was in the wrong. Very, very clearly in the wrong.

She looked at George, seeing him in a slightly different light now. No, she couldn't feel sympathy yet, she couldn't. He hadn't done anything to make it right yet. Just because June had made a mistake didn't excuse his behavior. This was bad. This was very, very bad. "You're right," say said, averting her gaze. "That is quite heroic."

June stared blankly ahead. Damn. Damn damn damn.

"When I was eight, my sister died in a fire."

June didn't even register that someone was talking to her for a moment. She finally looked at McGarry when he said that he would have essentially lit her on fire. No no no. This was her first interaction with so many of her classmates, and she did not want this kind of reputation. June cleared her throat, tears threatening to sting the back of her eyes. "I'm... I'm sorry about that."

It felt like the room was closing in around her. Her breaths became quick and shallow, the faces around her feeling like they were looking at her, staring at her, judging her."I... Excuse me, I have to use the restroom."

June bolted out of her seat, heading right for the door, experiencing a panic like she never had. Maybe this is how George Henry was feeling right now. She hoped not. He was still awful, but not this awful. June wouldn't return for her things, hoping Maggie or Monica would gather them for her. She didn't even go to the restroom. Instead, June ran down to her dorm room, and hid for the rest of the day.

Seren had followed everyone in, and had settled into place in the back of the group. She had been hoping to learn, to experience new things that an older student could teach her and even maybe, just maybe, ask a few questions so that in the future, she would do better in classes. She had received exactly two As in her grades this year, and those As hurt. The girl had felt like a failure, especially as they had been in her first few assignments.

The last thing she wanted was to have that happen again, and so an older student giving advice had seemed like the perfect way to go about fixing that.

And then everything had gone downhill. The spell casting, the accusations framed as a 'question', the story behind it... The girl who had asked it rushing out. Seren's eyes had gone wider and wider that entire time, almost impossibly wide for such a slender face, and her skin was pale with nerves. This felt so wrong, and very much not what she had showed up in here for. Part of her wanted to cry, upset over the whole, horrible situation.

She stared down at the notes she had pulled out, and began to try to read over them, to try to find a question she could ask and also to try to re-center herself in this terrible situation. Finally, her voice trembling in her nerves, the girl looked back up and lifted her hand, trying to ask a question that would help her with her homework that she was working on.

"Wh... Do you know what potions Mistletoe can be used in, other than in the Antidotes?"

It felt like a punishment for her. When approached about this little "study club" it struck a chord in Monica, "of course they are asking me? stupid Muggle born in need of 'extra help'" It was the lasted thing she wanted, however, the reasoning were vastly different from the first years assumptions.
Detention?
What an odd punishment? Though nearly everything in the wizarding world had been quite peculiar to say the least. Well at the very least, why not join? What is it but another chance of connecting with some new peers.
When entering the room, she could pick out some faces she recognized. She saw June sitting at one of the desk, unsure if this was the type of social gathering where one could engage in modest chatter.
Avoiding to want to look like a disturber for what clearly is to be a punishment, and place of learning, Monica opted to simply wave at her friendly acquaintance, and took to her chair.
Not long after sitting down, did the man of the hour arrive. And the events that followed were surely not what Monica had envisioned at all.
Upon the request for spell demonstrations, she could feel her heart racing, palpitating out of her chest. There was a lightness, and sense of fun that Monica hadn't really had the chance to experience much of yet. However the affair, as quickly as it started, was shut down, by Opeila.
Henry, clearly being a person that doesn't take no for an answer, managed to sway the verdict from no spell casting, to only no duelling spell casting.
Monica started fantasizing, this was a great chance to get in some much needed spell practice, readying herself to raise her hand, and ask for some guidance on transfiguration, June spoke up. Mentioning some event with fire, and Henry trapping fellow students under the stairs.
The tone shifted in the room. Like a vacuum had sucked out all the fresh air, and replaced it with heavy humidity. There he stood, Henry at the head of the class, his eyes glossing over, his face turning red.
A feeling Monica knew all too well, the battle to keep your emotions at bay.
Alan quickly jumped into the sixth year defence, recounting the event, and how it was a tough choice that ended up saving students from further harm.
Attention went back to June, Monica didn't know the situation, at least not in depth. She knew that this was henry's punishment, that he had used a spell against June, sending her out of a tree, but not much after that. Clearly there was some sort of bad blood between the two of them.
After the events had been shared, Monica overheard some boy whisper to June, unable to hear it fully, but she could tell based on the following actions, it wan't pleasant.
June had run out, barely excusing herself. The tension was thick, uncomfortable. Whatever the intension was for this detention, it wasn't met. Monica could feel her body jerking forward, sure she didn't know June super well, but a situation like this would humiliate anyone. Her hands rested on top of her desk, thumbs dancing about each other.
Seren broke the silence, moving the group back to questions.
"Should I do something? Say something?" Looking over to the kid that spoke to June, a fired burned in Monica's stomach, despite June's comment, His was for sure out of line! He had no right to butt in like that. Noticing her previously inter locked fingers, were now clasped together, turning white at the knuckles. He nails digging into her palms. This was wrong, all of it. Something had to be said....Done? Would no one do anything?
Monica stood up, frozen in place. She could feel eyes falling on her. What was she doing? Her hand gripped her chair, she was unable to let go. Her heart picked up it's pace. Blood rushing through her veins, WHAT WAS SHE DOING? She faced the boy sitting next to her,
"I'm sorry but that was uncalled for."
Looking up ahead to Henry, the prefect and Opeila, Monica forced a smile, slightly letting her head drop in a bow," I must excuse myself, if I may."
She walked past Henry, "Thank you for your demonstrations, you're a very talented wizard."
Leaving the room, she closed the door behind her.
Typical. Always act in the moment, was that wise? Leaving like that? Well no matter, Monica seemed to have a way with being the odd one out. Glancing through the vacant hall, not a sound to be heard, other than the faint muffles from the room she had just left. No where really in particular to go, so she chose to seek some much needed fresh air.

Everything was moving fast. Quinn had barely kept up. A girl asked a question about a fire, which made George upset. Alan had given a history lesson. A slytherin was shouting about the np spell casting rule. Wish Quinn was almost certain Opeila said no dueling spells. The girl who asked about the fire had run off saying that she had to use the restroom.

A few people where trying to get it back on track. It was overwhelming all that was going on. This was definitely not what any of them had expected. Was this detention? Or was it some sort of fight?

Now Quinn was debating on following the girl out. But she didn't, she took a deep breath and looked around. How the heck was this going to get back on track? With all of the chaos going on.

Quinn thought of a random question, this guy seemed like a trouble maker. Quinn spoke up hopefully loud enough that George could hear her. Is she recalled he was a third year so he must have known. "Sir? Can you tell us what hogsmead is like?" Quinn's knew what it was like, the prefets most likely knew. It was an interesting place so hopefully the first years would stop yelling and listen. That was what Quinn hoped for.

This detention was an utter chaos, there was no denying that, and thinking about it now, what did she even expect when inviting a bunch of first years to it? She had been a first year once, she had seen what kind of stupidity first years were capable of, so had she really expected a normal study group? ...Well, maybe. It had worked before, she had seen a group of first year Slytherins study together in the beginning of the year.
A girl from her own house spoke up, trying to put the spell cast ban to a vote. Opeila glared at her. "Well, thank god this is no democracy then! The discussion is over."

It seemed however that she was slowly regaining control, so much that she even allowed George to use spells, as long as they were no duelling spells and not cast at students. Opeila understood that she had to appear like the biggest spoilsport to the first years, but what did they expect her to do? She could hardly authorize them casting spells at each other, for that there was the duelling club.
The Slytherin was only beginning to relax a bit, when June asked a question that made the hair on her neck stand up. Opeila's head shot up, first looking to June, then to George who had become visibly pale. Then another kid asked if he could show them the mending charm.

Oh no. Oh no, oh no.
The first time this afternoon, regret stung in her chest. This was meant to be a slightly tedious task for George, an opportunity for the first years to get some tutoring from an older student and altogether a chance for bonding between upper and younger years. Not this, never this.
Finally Alan stepped in, which was good because Opeila was very much at a loss of words. She had heard about the incident, one of the traumatic attacks on the Hogwarts houses none of the kids present had been there for.

Well, except very few that had been present in the beginning of the year, when Hufflepuffs were attacked outside the Slytherin common room, but the older snakes had made an effort to shield the first years from the same trauma they had been forced to endure back when they had been their age. It appeared that Opeila needed to have a serious conversation with a certain Slytherin first year later on.
While Alan talked, Opeila stepped away from Bubba and walked over to the other Ravenclaw (Adelaide). "I will show you that spell later if you want, I think right now that is a bad idea.", she explained quietly, then walked backwards, away from the first years and to George's other side.
"I'm so sorry for this. You can go if you want.", she murmured in his direction.
The first students were leaving anyway. The mood of the room had taken a 360° turn and it seemed that the group was not prepared for that, not even June herself.
