Louca grinned, surprised that he had happened to run into someone who had the connection. “C’est une belle langue qui sorte de la langue.” Louca wasn’t offended by the cool comment, as everyone had their own opinions. He had been kind of doomed to learn French as his mother was Parisian French and he had born and spent the first two years of his life in Quebec, where the official language was French, though he found that Quebec French and Paris French were a bit different in how they developed, but that just meant his particular brand of French could fit in either. Now he had spent some time in New Orleans and was looking to pick up some of the Cajun French though that seemed more difficult than anything else. “I admit, I don’t think I’ve heard anyone speaking welsh before. So I can’t comment on its coolness.”

Louca was happy that Jamie answered his question, but was wondering why it was under his breath. “Arrow, that makes sense then. I mean for a broom. What would you name a broom if you made one? I think it would be very hard as a lot of the cool names seem to be taken already.”

Louca nodded, taking a sip of his juice. Swallowing somewhat quickly at the question, knowing it would be coming but always having to figure out an answer, he coughed as some of the juice went down the wrong pipe. Covering his mouth, he set the juice glass down, and took a moment to get his breath back. His voice a bit scratchy, he said “Well, a bit from here and there. Born in Quebec, then travelled quite a bit with my parents, and now I think we’ve settled at least for a year or two in New Orleans. We’ll see if they change their minds in the next little bit or not. You?”

It was a quick answer, and Louca tried to recall if they spent any time in Oregon. Speaking slowly, he added “interesting! I think I was in Oregon for like three months at some point but I don’t think we went to Portland.” Though he was surprised that they hadn’t. After all the major cities were the best bet to get the most tourists. But his parents made the decision on where to go and he just followed along. “Skate park? Like Ice skating? That seems like it would be a lot of fun, and great in the winter for some adventure. I must admit I don’t think I’ve heard a rink called that. And what are Lardo’s sandwiches like?” Louca asked, curious to find out more about Jamie’s favorites from his hometown.

Nodding enthusiastically, he answered “Of course! Obviously I missed out when we were in Oregon the first time. I’m going to have to fix that!” Louca laughed happily, enjoying the conversation immensely. It was going along quite well and easily, jumping from topic to topic with ease and never getting caught anywhere.

“Oooohhhh, skateboard. That makes sense not being called a rink.” Louca laughed at his error, imaging skatebords that he had seen tourists riding on the sidewalks of several places he had lived, trying to grab traction on a slippy ice surface. “I’ve seen them, but haven’t taken the opportunity to try them out. Shocking as I thought I’d tried almost every form of transport by this point. You should! I’d love to see what you can do on it. Could you imagine the professor’s faces? But really, I think the hallways would make for the best space to do so. I’m not sure it would work as well on grass.”

"What would you name a broom if you made one?"

"The Bazooka 9000." Jamie answered, point-blank. He'd been thinking about that very topic for some time now, complete with amateur drawings of himself riding said Bazooka. Too bad he knew absolutely nothing about broom crafting.

New Orleans... Jamie hadn't traveled that much. The only images that Louca's hometown conjured up was of that one Disney movie with the magic frogs. He had a feeling that maybe it wasn't the most reliable source. But the thought was already halfway to his mouth.

"New Orleans--like the Princess and the Frog?" Jamie asked. "That's pretty cool, I guess. Haven't been there, but I'll put it on my list!"
The redhead brightened at Louca's questions about his own home turf. "Portland's a great place! And it's really easy to get around, since we have like, buses, and rental bikes, and streetcars--oh, and a skytram." He pouted slightly.
"Mom won't let me travel on my own, yet, even though my other mom says it'll be fine."

"But besides that, Lardo's is one of the best sandwich joints in the city, I think. They give you huge sandwiches." Jamie spread his hands in the air, and mimed taking a bite. He snorted, and idly bounced in his seat.
"Actually, we have great food overall! Even though Mom says most of it is all 'hipster junk'. I don't really know what that means, but she's wrong."

Jamie leaned back a bit at Louca's next statement.
"Bro, why would you ride on grass?" he asked increduously. That was a pretty weird thing to say. Unless...!
Suddenly, he froze and looked the other boy dead in the eye. "Wait...Don't tell me you've never skateboarded before??"

Louca nodded emphatically when Jamie answered his question about the broom name. Pointing his index finger at him, he said “That….is….epic! and very powerful. You should definitely do it! Think we’ll learn anything about broom making here? Or is there like a specialized course or something?” Louca scrunched his nose a bit, not sure if having to do a separate course outside of school would be interesting or not. Unscrunching his nose, he decided it would depend on the subject. After all, if it was something interesting then it likely wouldn’t feel terrible doing more school type work after school, but if it was something one was forced to do or uninteresting, then it would likely be torture. He wasn’t sure that many topics would have him entering a classroom voluntarily outside of his proper classes.

Surprised that Jamie knew the movie, he nodded his head. Louca only knew about it because it had been mentioned frequently by muggles when touring the city. He hadn’t actually seen the movie. “That would be it. But also home to Mardi Gras. Though my parents kept me away from most of the celebrations. It apparently gets a bit nutty. You definitely should, there’s lots to do!” What Louca left out was that it was the busiest time for his parent’s cons, and the easiest time to pull things off. More tourists meant more marks meant more money. Drinks lowered inhibitions and it was easier to fool people.

“Oh cool! What’s the skytram like? Anything with sky in it is automatically cool.” Louca said definitively, acting as if he was the last word on the cool, but with a grin on his face, hopefully not coming across as too insufferable. Louca raised his left eyebrow at the mom’s comment, but it wasn’t a big deal so he didn’t mention anything about it. “I’m sure they’ll let you do so soon. After all, we are attending a private school for magic. There is adult supervision but it’s a little bit more independent living.” Louca didn’t know where he meant to go with that but he couldn’t fully finish the sentence and so just left it as is.

Louca bounced slightly at the mention of food, grabbing some more grapes and popping one into his mouth. “That sounds delicious! I love trying different food, and different places. You always find something amazing!” Louca had no idea what the hipster word was or what hipster junk would be, so he just shrugged, adding “I’ve no clue what that means either. I’d be curious if it was a good thing or not?”

Shrugging again, Louca said “Doesn’t it work on grass? Or is that too difficult?” Louca chuckled at Jamie’s expression, glad he could surprise the boy. “Nope. I’ve seen some of the muggles riding them on the sidewalks, but haven’t had a chance myself yet. Pretty shocking? I’ve done a ton, but not that.” Louca made a popping sound as he finished the Nope of his sentence.

Popping another grape in his mouth, he waited to see Jamie’s further reaction about having not ridden a skateboard.

Jamie dramatically poured more orange juice into his glass.
"Forget the skytram, dude! How have you never skateboarded before?" The very idea was mind-boggling to him. Maybe the sport wasn't for everyone, yeah, but surely a cool dude like Louca would have tried out a board at least once in his life.
Skateboarding was love! Skateboarding was life! No wait, that's Shrek, Jamie corrected himself, But still!

The redhead's leg started bouncing wildly as he tried to pull himself back from this frightening realization. "Man, we gotta fix that! Are there any wizarding skate shops around Massachusetts?" If there weren't, he should at least teach Louca! In his brainstorming, he failed to remember that they were currently located on top of a freakishly tall, and very dangerous mountain range. There weren't many places to do half-pipes. Well, he'd figure that out later. Maybe Louca could join him on Hallway Races: Part 2, Electric Boogaloo!
Eyes shining bright with excitement, Jamie enthusiastically gulped his juice. All previous shock had miraculously dissapated from his body. He set down the glass and wiped at his mouth with the back of his hand. "I could totally teach you! Then the teachers will have both of us to deal with."

He was extremely eager to just get up and fetch his board from his dorm, so they could jump right into it. But he used what little semblance of tiredness he had left to anchor himself in place. Louca hadn't given him an answer yet.

Louca sipped from his glass, before pushing it to rest behind his empty plate. Scrunching his nose, he answered, “I think the skytram sounds more interesting. Skateboards just roll along the ground, the skytram likely involves being high up which is just very fun. Skateboards just can’t measure to being up high and being able to see things from a different perspective.” Louca chuckled, just truly realizing Jamie’s reaction to his confession. Truly, there were likely more people who hadn’t skateboarded then had in the world, and especially the magical world.

Louca grinned at Jamie, not even asking what a skate shop is but assuming that it was somewhere that you could get skateboards. “Not that I know of? That seems like a thing you’d need to get them from a muggle shop somewhere.” Louca shrugged. “Might be able to get something on one of our breaks or something. But that’ll be a while won’t it?”

Louca enjoyed Jamie’s enthusiasm and he was always up for trying something at least once. Who knew, maybe it would be the next best thing? “Sure, I’m always looking to cause some trouble and if rolling around on a board helps, then I’d be down.”
Louca was getting more enthusiastic the more he thought of it. Especially the trouble bit. He was always looking for something new to try and an adventure to have, so finding someone who could teach him something new and he was friends with would be awesome.

Jamie puffed a few curls out of his eyes, and drummed his fingers on the wooden table.
"Okay, yeah, the skytram is cool." he admitted. "I can see the whole city from that high up."
The boy paused for a second as he tried to remember what the skyline had looked like the last time he was on the tram. It had been the fourth of July, and the whole family had gone up for a ride on the thing. He could practically still hear the crackling booms of the fireworks, see the canvas of color and smoke painted across the summer sky.

“Not that I know of? That seems like a thing you’d need to get them from a muggle shop somewhere.” Louca quipped.
Jamie snapped back into reality as the other Thunderbird started to speak again.
"Aw man! I was really hoping I could pick up some new gear for myself." he complained, drooping in disappointment. And just like that, the hyper, exuberant side of the redhead was back in action. He was bouncing his leg up and down again, trying to think if he'd seen any skate shops in Adams, the nearest town over, when Louca said one word that made him stop in his tracks.

"Sure--"
"Yes! What are we waiting for, dude?" Jamie didn't even let the poor guy finish the rest of his sentence. He was already hopping his way out of his chair, and sliding his sneakers back onto his feet. "Lemme go up to my dorm and find my board! We can take turns trying it out." He grinned widely, and jittered back and forth on the balls of his feet. "You're gonna love it!"

Having made it successfully to a standing position, Jamie immediately took off in the direction of the dorms. He gestured wildly for Louca to follow suit, looking over his shoulder briefly to see if the other was in or out.

Louca placed his elbow on the table, bringing his hand up so that his head could rest on it. Bad table manners maybe, but considering he was pretty much done eating so did it really matter? Louca nodded, smiling as Jamie admitted to the coolness of the skytram. Heights were always exciting to Louca, though there really was no explanation he could find as to why. It was just something he enjoyed which made quidditch his favorite sport. He was willing to try things out at least once, but only pursued those things that truly interested him. “That sounds cool, and like a good way to see the city.” Louca told Jamie.

Louca grinned a little unevenly, surprised his new friend would have even thought that there would be skate shops nearby. Shrugging, he said, “I don’t think there’s been many skateboarding wizards. I’m sure you could change that though. What would your shop be named if you opened one?” Louca could definitely see Jamie starting something, especially with how passionate he was about skateboarding.

Louca jumped slightly, at Jamie’s quick movements, not expecting him to move so quickly at Louca’s acquiescence. But he caught up quickly, sliding himself out of his chair, and standing tall, watching as Jamie practically bounced. Grinning, Louca followed Jamie, saying “Wait up! There will be no one to teach if I can’t find you!”
