Friends even in difficult times
Haley was once again amazed at how understanding Simon was and didn't hold it against her. It seemed to her that it had been just the right thing to run into him in the library today. She had to laugh at his remark, but it was the truth, she had simply behaved impossibly. Haley did indeed have a book in her bag and was looking for it while she continued to listen to Simon. When she caught it, she held it up and a slight smile formed on her lips as she quoted from the book, "Oh, you can't help that,we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." And right at that moment she couldn't help but think of the first time she met Simon, also here in the library, and also when Haley was in a difficult emotional state. She could hardly believe it but that was indeed how it was.good mood rises @Simon Kincaid
"I know it's a Muggle book but it has a calming effect on me. I've had the book since I was a kid and at times like this it seems like reading it helps me." She shrugged, hoping it wouldn't sound too weird what she said. "Giants?" she laughed and briefly considered how it could have come to half giant but couldn't think of an answer. "You'll have to tell me more about that sometime. And if there's anything on your list I can teach you - here I am." She laughed again, sure she couldn't have taught him anything from his list but she wanted to lighten the mood a little more.
Haley set the book down on the table before bringing up another subject, "um, Simon." She paused for a moment before taking a breath and continuing, "I know I was very excited about the whole Parselmouth issue but with recent events I don't want anything to do with it anymore." She looked sadly at the floor and you could clearly see that she was not happy with this decision. But Haley thought this was the right decision, she couldn't keep risking someone coming to harm because of her, because of her ability. In the meantime, she began to understand why Parselmouths kept it to theirself.

Trying to persuade @Haley Rose
"Take a moment? Totally understandable," he began to protest with her. "But not wanting anything to do with it anymore? No. Haley, please, I urge you to reconsider that. I mean, think about it. This whole...thing, right? Well, it's like getting to know someone or learning a new subject. If you want to fully understand someone or understand a concept then you need to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. You need to discover what's brilliant about this, as well as what to be cautious of."
It was something he didn't want her to just push to the side. It was part of who she was and who her family was. Besides, it was such a rare talent that intentionally throwing it all away just didn't seem right. "You know I want to support you in all you do. I do. And I'll even support you wanting to take a bit from it but don't break off everything."
He looked down to see if she was still wearing the ring she had and she was which indicated to him that this wasn't a lost cause. As always, he was wearing the ring she had given him, that black snake ring. "It's a part of who you are and where you came from," he whispered to her, taking her hand so that the one snake ring rested close to the other.
"Don't let the ignorant boys that hurt Ian win. They don't know anything about this whole thing." Nor did they possess the ability to figure it out.

Haley had already feared that Simon would not simply accept her decision and her suspicions were confirmed just at that moment. She listened to his arguments carefully and smiled slightly, but she had made her decision. She shook her head slightly. She knew that Simon was right with every word he said, but it wasn't that simple.knowing he is right @Simon Kincaid
When Simon took her hand, she flinched briefly at the touch of his cold hand. It wasn't because of the cold, but she had made it a point to never let anyone get close to her again. She didn't want to risk anyone getting hurt because of her anymore. But at Simon's touch, she seemed to forget everything. She took his hand and her eyes wandered to their fingers. She immediately noticed that they were both wearing their rings and a smile formed on her lips.
It's a part of who you are and where you came from, it repeated a few times in her head and she wasn't sure if it was because of Simon's words or because he was so supportive but at that moment she changed her mind. Not one hundred percent but she decided to give it a chance. Her gaze was still fixed on their hands and she whispered softly. "You're right."
She looked up now and got up from her chair. It was getting late and Haley knew she needed some time for herself now to sort out her thoughts. Before Simon could even really realize what Haley was doing, she took him into a tight hug and spoke softly into his ear, "Thank you so much, Simon." She released the hug and picked up the book, putting it in her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. "I have to go now. I hope to see you again soon." She gave him another furtive smile before making her way to the common room.
