Amadea: I don’t feel partial to one specific color but if I had to say, I would say probably like the cool tones of the rainbow rather than like
orange and red. Not that I have anything against them!

Cecily: I feel like I’ve answered this question like four times in the past month and I’ve had a different answer each time.

Cecily: Okay. I have different answers for hot tea versus iced tea…
Amadea: Okay so favorite hot, favorite iced.
Cecily: Okay, I’m gonna start with iced ‘cause I’m– that one unsweetened black tea with just a little bit of raspberry in it.

Ami: You drink unsweetened black tea, what is wrong with you?

Cecily: Yes, it is my, um, drink of choice in the summer.

Cecily: Yeah, me and my mother! We make a big pot of iced tea and we drink it—

Amadea: No and then you put it in the big, like, the biggest size Cumberland Farm, um, cup that are meant for a slushie–
[incredulous laughter]–and you keep washing it and putting
more iced tea in it.
Cecily: That’s true. That’s what we do. We have a stack of cups from Dunkin Donuts and Cumberland Farms and we just refill them. But also I have my mug that is um…political. I thoroughly enjoy it.
[laughter]
Ami: Are we allowed to—
Cecily: The mug itself isn’t political, I just have political stickers on it.
Amadea: I don’t think we are.
Cecily: Allowed to talk about politics? I’m…not getting into depth about it.
Amadea: Yeah.
Cecily: Okay. Oh wait. I still have to answer my favorite hot tea. Oh…I was gonna say something and I don’t know if it’s actually my favorite tea or not

Cecily: This is a really hard choice for me, okay? I drink a lot of tea. And I drink a lot of different kinds of tea!
Amadea: Our problem was just filming this on a whim and not scripting—

Cecily: I didn’t get to look at these questions beforehand and I was unable to prepare my answers.

One of our friends sent– used to do this thing where she would send inspirational quotes with her Snapchat streaks and she meant to send this quote about like how everyone’s a blessing but she misquoted it and sent everybody “you are a bl–” er, “you are a–” wait, “you are not a blessing, you are a burden. Sleep well!”
[intense laughter]
Cecily: To
every single person on her Snapchat basically. Now we quote it all of the– that– this was like, what, eight years ago?
Amadea: I know, there was—
Cecily: And we
still quote it
all the time.
Amadea: It’s the best thing ever. Anyway, okay. I’m not particularly fond of tea, but I do like fruit based tea, like…boba that’s fruit based not milk based. Basically, if it tastes like juice, but also Arnold Palmers. I like that. Ami!!
Ami: Yeah, so I was gonna say a dirty chai. I like a nice iced chai latte with a shot of espresso in it which I think is de– deviating a little bit from like type of tea but like that’s my tea drink, that’s what I get at every coffee shop ever, so.
Amadea: Understandable.
Cecily: I do love a good London fog, if we’re going with like the m– quote unquote “mixed drink” kind of vibe.
Ami: Yeah. Otherwise I don’t really drink, I don’t really drink tea straight. I guess the closest thing would be like sweet iced tea. Okay. Are we, are we good now? Have we gathered ourselves?
Cecily: Yes.
Amadea: Hang on, wait, I’m gonna do a thing. I mean, you don’t have to wait but I’m just gonna do it anyway.

Cecily: Okay. So, I’m studying architecture right? I’m…feeling like something in like urban design or sustainable development, y’know? That’s really the vibe. That would be like my attainable dream career. If we’re talking about, like, unattainable, it would be sick to be on Broadway, but I’m just not gonna think about that because I don’t want to be sad.

Amadea: Um, well, I’m studying political science so ideally what I would like to do is work for some sort of non-profit organization that…promotes the values that I hold dear to me. Staying not political!

Cecily: I feel like I really know a lot about you from that.

Ami: What’s your– what’s your like mildly unrealistic dream job?
Amadea: Ooh. Um. To be a content creator. Not because I want the fame or anything, I just feel like it's, like, easy, kind of. And I would get to travel. Er like, I could travel and make money through that which is super cool.
Ami: Yeah. Okay. Uh, my like, realistic dream job is– so I’m majoring in aerospace engineering and math next year, or I guess for the next four years, um–
Cecily: Absolute nonsense combination of majors, it sounds
miserable.
Ami: I…have one thing I’m good at so I like to stick to it. Um, so I think realistically I would be working, uh…I mean
[sighs]. As like a lifetime type of job hopefully I end up at Lockheed Martin. Um, I don’t I don’t condone bombing people, to be clear. Um, I know they’re a military corporation. People–
I know that, you don’t have to tell me. But they do do like a lot of cutting edge and like very futuristic technological stuff that I very much admire and have looked up to my whole life um so it’d be cool to work on stuff like that. Unrealistically…oh boy. Uh I’d like to play…I mean this is still realistic but I can’t make a full time job out of it. I’d like to play frisbee professionally. Um, it’s something I’ve found I really liked and I like playing better than trying to coach other people ‘cause I hate kids and kids are bleh, um.
Cecily: Real.
Ami: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ami: That’d be nice. Yeah. Everything Everywhere All At Once, I think representation is really, really important to me, and I think that has been part of why I keep doing the things I do, even though I’m in majority-white spaces— oh. Cecily: Um, I believe in situational luck, in that, like, you don’t choose what life you were born into, or what opportunities are granted to you, usually. But also I believe that you make your own luck, because there are a lot of choices that you can make that you can– that could lead you in different directions and can open more doors for you, and there’s a lot of choices that you can make that can maybe… make your life worse! And—

Cecily: —it’s not all up to luck. I think Dea might maybe agree with me…? Judging by the way she’s freaking out.
Amadea: I was just gonna say, that’s literally almost verbatim what you said the first time.

Cecily: Okay, here’s the thing, that’s something my dad says all the time, so it makes sense that I would say that both times.

Amadea: I don’t know. I think I do. Because there are some things… that are just hard to explain, other than somebody is just lucky, ya know? Like near-death experiences or… like, when… morally bad people get rewarded.

Ami: Yeah, I’m gonna piggy back off of– I think, like, I agree, there’s like sit– it’s not– it’s less luck, and more just like…

Cecily: It’s circumstance.
Ami: Yeah, it’s like circumstances. Like, sometimes you just get dealt a better hand, starting– like, a starting hand that’s better than everyone else’s. Which is like, you’re not in control of that. But also, as someone who plays a lot of sports, yeah, luck is so real. There’s so many lucky shots. You’re not talented, you just hit it on accident a certain way. And it just happened to work in your favor. Sorry I’m a little salty about a couple matches and a couple games.

Slaughterhouse Five and I made it my entire personality for four months. Um, so I definitely live by the philosophy of “so it goes” and wherever you are in life is what you need at that time, but I still believe in free will and that like, nothing is set in stone and you can change whatever you want. But like… what you’re experiencing at a certain time is what you need at that moment. And so like, it’s not necessarily– I– I don’t think it’s predetermination, I think that’s, like, weird, and– ‘cos it’s not set in stone, but it’s also like… it’s– you should never– I don’t think you should ever have a “woe is me” attitude. Um, and also Thanksgiving break is in the middle of it, which means I get to like, not have school for a solid five days. Which is nice. Yeah.

Cecily: Um… I’m transferring colleges and it’s very stressful, and they’re not taking all my credits and they’re not giving me money, and– oh, yeah, you don’t know about that? They just like– every school just has like their own… like, system for how many credits they take, and almost none of them will take a significant amount of them. So I’m only transferring like a quarter of the credits that I have.
Ami: That’s so stupid.
Cecily: Mhm! And will I be starting as a first-year? Maybe!
Ami: That makes no sense.
Cecily: [smiling through the pain] It’s stupid, yes it is! And that’s why it’s so stressful. So that’s what I’ve been struggling with!
Ami: Dude, that’s crazy. ‘Cos my college like– they’re taking all of the college credits that I took.
Cecily: Yeah, but I’m– that’s– yours are more standardized. Like when you– like– ‘cos I just took mine at a random community college.
Ami: Right.
Cecily: And also, like, I took a lot– like I didn’t just take like, a math class. I took like… Structures. Like engineering classes.

Cecily: And architecture classes. And
[takes a deep breath] a lot of schools, specifically with that, are very strict about what they will and will not accept, and they want you to go through their program really specifically, and so they just– they screw you!
Ami: That’s stupid. I’m sorry.

Ami: Amadea, what are you struggling with?
Amadea: Analyzing. College friendships. And not knowing… if they are healthy or not.

So, fun fact, when you try out for a frisbee team, because everybody just loves everybody and they’re all about like, positive spirit of the game and stuff, they always give you feedback, regardless of if you make the team or not. Um, and so I kid you not, my feedback for the tryout this year was “We want you to–” like, “This summer with your teammates in a safe environment, we want you to–” ‘cos that’s like the starter– “We want you to work on believing in yourself! Ami: And I was like… this isn’t helpful! But like, the more I thought about it, I think the more I’ve been like, yeah, I know what I’m doing, I’ve played frisbee for four years, I’ve played at Nationals, why am I so insecure about, like, my playing? So I think I’m struggling a lot with like… ha– like, having genuine confidence? ‘Cos like I come off as very arrogant, that’s just like how I decide to act in front of people because like, I don’t need people knowing I’m insecure. Stop that. Right? But like, having genuine confidence, I think, is something I struggle with a lot.

Cecily: Um… I don’t know! I feel like… having a car and having the freedom to go where I want whenever I want.

[long pause] Yeah, not to be depressing, but I don’t really feel powerful. I just feel the crushing weight of the universe all the time.

Amadea: And if I think about the fact that like nothing is in my control… I don’t feel very powerful.
Ami: That’s fair.
Cecily: What happened to not believing in fate?
Amadea: Like– I– I don’t believe in fate. But, like, just objectively, like, I don’t have control over anything except for the way that I react to situations that happen to me.
Cecily: You should run for public office.
Amadea: …No thank you.
[laughter]
Cecily: Understandable, honestly, I get it.
Amadea: Why did you say that?
Cecily: ‘Cos I just feel like that’s a really attainable solution for feeling like you wanna make a change and you don’t have the power to do it.
Amadea: That’s true. But no thank you.
Cecily: But also I understand that that’s… a lot of stress for a lot of people, and they don’t– wouldn’t feel comfortable in that position.
Amadea: I just don’t wanna be like, perceived that much, you know?
Cecily: [laughing] I do know, yeah.
Ami: So Dea just wants to be a
low-key content creator.
Amadea: Yeah! Or like– like– Dream before he did a face reveal.
Cecily: You just wanna be an anonymous content creator.
Ami: [gasps] Are you gonna be the next Corpse?

[giggles at her own joke]
Cecily: It’s because I’m better than you.
[Ami continues to giggle hysterically]
Ami: Ha ha! Look at her face.
Amadea: Ami, what makes you powerful?
Ami: [pulls herself together] Um, what makes me powerful?
Amadea: Being taller than Cecily?
Ami: Yeah, exactly. Um,
Cecily: Wow, you know what? Taller people are more likely to get cancer. So.
Ami: I’m not… tall enough to be a part of that statistic. Um, what makes me feel powerful. I… I think a very– no, it’s properly rated, but an often forgotten about skill– um, but it comes into play ‘cos I work at a Chinese restaurant now. Because I speak more than one language, like, I can participate in like, two cultures, two conversations, two vibes. Like, I– several people came in today and ordered completely in Mandarin and I was totally fine and like talked to the kitchen in Mandarin, but then I’m also like chatting with the American customers who have no idea what they’re doing, and like, “what’s your favorite thing?” and then I point them to the most expensive things on the menu ‘cos I wanna make tips!
[laughs] Um, yeah. I like knowing two languages. It’s fun.
Cecily: That’s cool.
Ami: Yeah. Alright.
[clears throat] Last one. Oh, I remember. Cecily, what’s one thing you just really like about yourself? We’re ending on a happy note so don’t make this depressing!
Cecily: I’m not making this depressing, I just have to think about it!
Ami: You made a face and I got worried for a second!
Cecily: I– I like myself, I do. Um… I guess my artistic talent. I’ll go with that.
Ami: Amadea? What’s just one thing you really like about yourself?
Amadea: I feel like I’m in program right now.
[laughter]

Amadea: Well what I said today was that I… am good at hydrating myself. And she was like, how does that contribute to like, your perception of yourself? And I was like, well—
Ami: If you say bloated—
Amadea: —I don’t get headaches all the time.

Amadea: No.

Amadea: Well, it’s gonna– I said, I don’t get headaches all the time when I stay hydrated. And therefore, I like, don’t have a pounding head.
Ami: That is pretty good. I definitely do not drink as much water as I should.
Amadea: You know what, I don’t either.

Cecily: I drink a lot of iced tea which is mostly water, so.
Amadea: But I’m trying. You know what? The attempt is made, so. I carry my water bottle around.
Cecily: Oh my God, look at us both with our water bottles.
Amadea: It is empty, to be fair. But.
Ami: I have an empty bubbler.
Cecily: Uhh… sure!
Amadea: Ami.
Ami: Um… I think… I… really like that… I… I– okay, I have a really good nose. I think I have a really nice nose. And that’s– I don’t have to get a nose job in the future. Not saying that anyone ever has to change their appearance, but like, some people are insecure to the point where like they feel like they need to change something about them to make them feel better? I like my nose, I think my nose is great.
