Maria recognized the other girl as Ana. A Ravenclaw she had “met” once in an incident involving her running into another student. She wasn’t sure if the curly hair girl recognized her, but based on the things she said to the Slytherin boy about the “spices” he was selling, she was convinced this may not end well for them. It was painfully obvious they weren’t spices either. There were warning labels on them, that she couldn’t quite read from where she stood and who would sell spices in a bathroom?

The Slytherin boy then addressed them
"All of us look really suspicious in here, and to be honest I don't really care about the money I'm getting from this. If you want one of these bags, the only conditions are that you don't tell anyone where you got them, and you report back to me if it works or not. Now take these bags and leave, and make sure no one sees you leaving, or all of us are in big trouble, me more than you."
“Nice of you to notice how odd it is to find several people exchanging contraband in an abandoned bathroom.” She thought. “Whatever that stuff is I’m guessing this might not end well.” As she continued her scrutiny of the bunch, and debated on whether or not she should take a bag for herself, Ana spoke up.
"Don't you dare try to fool me". I don't care about the money either. But I want to make sure that it works. We'll test them. Now."
This was bad very bad. If Ana’s previous words about the product were anything to go by there is now way this was going to end well. “Look, if he says you should just take them and leave, then you might as well do it. An abandoned bathroom on the second floor isn’t exactly ideal for testing whatever it is you have on there.” She pointed at the bags. “Don’t you think someone might notice if you use that ‘fiery’ mixture in here?”

Tryna solve a problem like Maria.

The dark-haired Hufflepuff girl now turned to her, her face seemed oddly familiar to Ana. The Ravenclaw racked her brain for a moment, tried to remember where she had seen the student before. In class, maybe? Could be, what with both of them being first-years, it was very unlikely that they'd not met during lessons before. There was something else though... something that Ana had shoved right to the back of her mind, desperately hoping for it to stay there. Something that caused her to wince with displeasure as she remembered.
A slap, the noise of skin hitting skin. Angry words. A smug face. A crumpled piece of paper, falling to the ground after hitting her chest and lying open for everyone to see. Pain in her knuckles. Crimson blood on the cold stone floor, not hers. A prefect's hands holding her arms, holding her back. Scrambling for the-
The Hufflepuff's voice broke through her thoughts. The room came back into sight, her senses slowly took up work again - she smelt the odour of rust, issuing from the taps, the sinks, the door handles, and the musty smell of the students' sweat, she heard water from a leaking tap drip-drip-dripping onto the porcelain that might have once been white, she felt her own fingernails digging deep into her palms and realized her fists were clenched tightly, she tasted the cereal she'd had for breakfast. She was back in the present. The flashback was over - thanks to the Hufflepuff girl, Ana remembered, and focused her attention on her.

In a different time and place, Ana might have snapped at her, told her to mind her own business. However, even though the girl didn't know it, Ana was immensely grateful for giving her something to focus on other than the incident in the corridors. "Well, you're right", she answered, her voice light and kind even though her heart was still thumping fast. " Why not go into the Grounds, then? Let us tes them there.
