Back Into The Water Closed

What is it that prevents us from letting go? From a deceased dear friend? Is it love? From a partner that broke your heart? Is it despair? From a girl that slighted your mother that one time? Is it anger? If you allow them to these feelings carry far greater weight than reasoning. Especially for a 12-something year old. In a dark new world without friends or a parental role-model to rely on, it was hard to shed these feelings. So, what gives us the power to let go? Is it belief? Belief that you are not in control, belief that you are merely passing by, a subject to something greater. How does one truly let go of anything?

Thomas could not let go. Not of his vendetta against @Erin Ryan . His search for Howard White. The absence of his father. Not even of the sorting hat’s placement. His failure to accept has led to a distant and brooding demeanor. This negativity will only continue to assume control until he’s forced to open his eyes and embrace who he is. For the sake of everyone at the school of witchcraft and wizardry, hopefully someone came along to change this doomed mindset.

With each footstep the sedimentary rocks scattered in different directions. It was only two hours before curfew and Thomas approached the place he has spent more time than anywhere else at Hogwarts, even his dormitory. The Great Lake was nearing, and the intensity surrounding the boy’s emotions increased as he neared the shores. The setting of some of both his greatest and most haunting moments. On these shores he met who he considered to be his only true friend. Though under the surface of water an underlying fear of imprisonment, with no escape. In addition, his first alcoholic beverage shared with a…friend? Yeah, we’ll call him a friend.

There was an undeniable nostalgia that accompanied the boy. Thomas would not be able to define his unusual desire to be near the water. Since the day he returned the whispers would travel through his mind periodically, but they would vary. Find the water, come back to the water, get in the water. It was most unusual if you consider he rarely swam back home in England. He was drawn to the ice, not the water.

The sun was partially visible in the distance, nearing the horizon. Scattered clouds dimming with each passing moment. Thomas stopped at the edge of the shore, gazing into the still waters. His mind traveled back to the night of the Blossomfest. Turn around you git! A deeper voice belonging to an older student, a tall boy with spiked dark hair. A boy Thomas knew as Howard White. Where was he now? Erin did not mention him during their initial reunion. His mind continued to race, other images surfacing. A collection of bubbles and a motionless boy’s frame, steadily drifting below the water’s surface. It was Thomas, and it was…now. The boy, deeply lost in his recollection of the past dropped into the water in front of him.

Get out, get out…get OUT! Briefly limp, Thomas body tensed roughly when submerged. His arm caught fire, or so he thought. More specifically, the location of trident that had now closed up and formed into a scar. His body shook in instant agony as if he was being tortured. With the hand on his opposite arm, he grasped the rocks and rolled himself over until he escaped the shore.

Deep gasps escaped his lips consecutively, now laying with his back against the rocks, some of the sharp ones poking into his body. His chest rhythmically rising at a steady rate. In a state of panic he reached for the source of pain, his scar. The desperation to feel almost had him tearing through his robes, but he did not have the strength to tear the fabric. In one motion he flexed his abdomen into a seated position, frantically pulling the sleeve of his robe up to expose the scar to the crisp evening air. There was a bright green tint where the scar lay, fading by the moment. He wiped the moist sunken skin, finding the relief to increase from his touch. He gripped his arm tightly with another gasp of agony. What the hell is going on.

Thomas LeStrange was not not in the common room. Erin had tried to keep an eye on the prodigal snake who had only recently returned and he offered little regarding what had happened in his absence, in fact he had shared nothing at all. Paracelsus had taken on the role of jealous boyfriend on the afternoon of his return, chilled to the bone and seemingly half-dead. A trait she had never seen before in Paracelsus, a partner who was for the most part indifferent to her existence. It was a little bit sick that she was glad that he was upset, it was the first indication that he gave that he even cared or wanted her. It gave her a hope where there was none before, it was incredibly cruel.

Not that LeStrange was any different. The belief that there was a bond, a sense of camaraderie. A requisite want to know her, even if it was for his own personal gains was more than she had ever had before. It was enough for her, as sad as that was to -try- at the very least to be a friend in return. To try and mean it. To eventually believe it and to eventually mean it.

Paracelsus more than likely indisposed, with what she did not know. She actually knew very little of the elusive Gryffindor besides his name and blood status. He was for the most part a mystery she never bothered to try to solve because their relationship was not intended to be one that involved the heart. At least that was the intention, but it was human nature to always want more, to covet what someone else has and to yearn to be more than what one was now. It did not take much to tangle her emotions up, not when they were so new and so unexplored. She saw what she wanted to see and not much more, had her logical mind been preserved she would have realized he was an impostor straight away. Then he would have been an irrelevant to her, his blood wrong, his sentiments false and his body weak.

She spied Thomas LeStrange through a window meandering in the evening hours alone on the Grounds. She still had a number of questions for Thomas, most of which remained unanswered. She would make her way down the shifting stairs and out through the entrance hall. She rarely wore her robes when she was not in class, she did not care for how they fit or how they felt. Some things had not changed, like how she dressed like she was from a different time, a characteristic of many purebloods. However the muted grays and drab, darkened hues of navy and black she had often donned was absent. A pink houndstooth wool coat and a pair of tan leather gloves covered her school uniform, less her blazer as she made her way over the cool but starting to warm with the season Scottish grounds.

"Tom... Tom?" Erin called out, trying to get his attention as he stared at the lake like a creeper. Presumably no response, her pace hastened. "Thomas!" Erin shouted his correct name as she tried to seize his attention.  He stepped forward, towards the water. A sense of urgency sat within her. "Fucking Thomas!" She broke into a run in his direction.

She was too far away to stop the lemming from walking towards death and drowning himself in the lake. She would rush to the shore in time to see him submerged. She screamed, not that she realized that she had even made that sound or that she was even capable of such a noise. He was still moving, crawling... rolling... towards shore as she waded in. His face breached the surface, his rear on the stony shore as he gasped her air.

"The fucking hell Thomas. What is wrong with you. It is freezing out! Get out of the damn water you frigging dork."

Could he hear her even? Hear her right now. She was talking. Muttering. Complaining.

Water splashed up to her knees, wetting the bottom of her skirt. For a girl she was strong, it was uncanny really. She would reach for his collar, assuming the madman had not stripped before taking an evening dip in the icy lake. She did not even realize how cold the water was, not until after she gripped his collar (unless denied) and she roughly dragged him further onto the shore. If and when 'safe', an incredibly broad term, she would swat him in the back of the head with her free hand in hopes of finding whatever sense he had and knocking it back into place. "The FuCkInG HELL Thomas!" Erin snapped, her voice higher than it was normally. "What's wrong with you! Are you mental!"

Ivy wasn't sure why she kept going back to the Lake. Perhaps it was the serene, dreamy quietness of the area, a wonderful break from the buzz and constant shouting of the many halls and rooms of Hogwarts. Maybe it was the cool, fresh air that smelled of trees and dirt, something the Bellamy Manor lacked and Ivy craved. Or maybe it was the slight danger that surrounded it, the fact that any moment, she could step into the water and disappear forever.
Wandering down the hill toward the Lake with a thick woolen shawl wrapped around her, Ivy spotted a girl ahead of her. With her purple hair and pink coat, she could only be one person: Erin Ryan, one of the third-years in Slytherin, known for not only her unique purple locks, but her open hate of the black robes all Hogwarts students had to wear.
Ahead of Erin, Ivy could see a boy standing at the edge of the water. It was Thomas Lestrange, a first-year Slytherin. What was he doing at the edge? she wondered.
"Tom... Tom?" Erin called, her voice urgent and confused. Thomas did not reply. "Thomas!"
Thomas stepped straight into the water.
Ivy stopped in her tracks and stifled a scream, covering her mouth. Erin let out a screech of, "Fucking Thomas!" and raced down to the water. Ivy followed, trying not to trip.
By the time she got there, Thomas was lying on the rocks and Erin was berating him, curse words flying out of her mouth. "The fucking hell Thomas. What is wrong with you. It is freezing out! Get out of the damn water you frigging dork."
Ivy watched Erin reach for his collar and pulled him further away from the edge and closer to shore. "The FuCkInG HELL Thomas!" Erin's voice was high-pitched and panicky. "What's wrong with you! Are you mental!"
Ivy ran down. "Is he alright?" she asked worriedly. Without waiting for a reply, she knelt down and stared worriedly at him. Thomas' lips were blue and he was shivering. It was freezing enough without falling into the icy cold water of the Lake. "Here, take this!" She tossed her shawl at him, and just for good measure, her fluffy coat as well. She looked up at Erin. "We have to get him to the Hospital Wing."

Back Into The Water Closed
[Should’ve clarified the temperature is not frigid in my initial post. My B. To avoid an abrupt conclusion, the water is warm enough for him to be OK. I’ll provide more depth on the conditions below.]

Fortunately for Thomas, the weather warmed up with the looming emergence of Spring. The occasional gusts of wind would send chills throughout the frame of the dripping Slytherin, but he would survive. Besides, there were more pressing concerns than what the now soaking robes provided. There was Erin Ryan, who must have seen Thomas from a distance and acted out of concern for his well-being. Did she truly care for the boy? Her immediate actions would imply so.

"The fucking hell Thomas. What is wrong with you. Get out of the damn water you frigging dork."

Erin didn’t hesitate to fetch Thomas, swiftly submerging herself knee deep. She grasped his collar and would receive no resistance when forcing him out and away from the lake. She was audible, he did hear and understand her, though overwhelmed with the pain his scar provided. Thomas incurred the anger of Erin; a spray of droplets fell from his soaked brown hair with an open-palmed swat. Likely sourced from her concern, as she would continue to demand his reasoning for returning to the location of his disappearance.

"The FuCkInG HELL Thomas! What's wrong with you! Are you mental!"

The swat offered no relief, Erin remained animated. As the pain from his scar began to fade, his breath steadied, and the boy narrowed his eyes up towards the part-veela. “I-..” His mind raced for a way to explain his temporary loss of control. There was no intention to get in the lake. “It just happened!” With all her yelling he shouted back, his defenses raised. With Erin closely over him, Thomas issued a helpless shove in her direction to create some space. There was no intention to harm her, but she could have lost balance if he made decent contact.

"We have to get him to the Hospital Wing."

Another girl approached, a Gryffindor. She shared concerns and offered clothing, notably a shawl. “No! I’m not wearing that.He insisted, still rattled from the loud tantrum Erin had over his actions. Thomas dug his hands into the rocks, scooting back from the pair of girls to create more distance. “Ivy?” He recognized the girl to be Ivy Bellamy. A longtime acquaintance, their families linked up consecutively in the muggle world before his father married a muggle. The Bellamy family made a conscious effort to avoid Thomas and his mother since that day. The result was a sense of animosity between Thomas and Ivy, but they have yet to get into any quarrels.

Thomas calmed his tone, shaking his head. “Not going to the Wing, you cannot make me.” He declared to Ivy before turning to Erin, hostility still lingering. “And you. Decided to take a break from Parce, did you?” He mentioned the boy’s name with visible disdain. What was he implying? Was he jealous? Why did he care? All valid questions. Perhaps her decision to join Fox for dinner over assisting Thomas hunt for truth left him with disbelief she was entirely honest that night in the common room. Erin challenged the authenticity of Ruby’s friendship with Thomas, but it was Ruby, not Erin that joined him in the library after his return.

If the not terribly frigid water was not going to kill Thomas, perhaps Erin might. What sort of mental health issue did someone have to have to run into the lake like a moron. Her logic was of course fallible - I am going to kill you because you almost got yourself killed. At least that was the scolding tone carried by the deviant's voice as she gave him a piece of her mind. Well, what little was left of it. She was scaring the crap out of her.

It just happened he claimed.

Really? It just happened? It just happened that he decided to go to the lake and whoopsie-doodle! He walked right into the water, submerged himself and had no damn clue why! "You're damn cracked then!" She snapped, rebuking Thomas as some girl she did not know ran up making a scene. Tommy was awfully popular with the girls it would seem, at least this one was no Prefect. Thomas feebly pushed Erin back, she did not expect resistance from the soggy lad and she landed on her ass in the shallow water. A splash and the feel of pliable mud under her tush through her wool skirt left a gross feeling in her stomach and a chill up her back. It was cold-cold-cold! Temperate climate with the impending spring or not, it was ice cold to her. Erin splashed a bit in a half panic as she shot back to a standing position half-soaked. "Dammit! You dick!" She complained as the underclassman cooed over Thomas' likely "dire" condition.

She, well Ivy wanted to take Thomas to the Medical Wing to get checked out. Was not a bad thought if the nurse was not evil. "Nope," Erin announced with her arms crossed over her chest. "He's evil," she affirmed as she looked at Thomas out of the corner of her eye. Thomas was not having any of that either, although he gave no reason, just that Ivy could not and that she could not make him get treatment. Well, Erin could 'make him' but it would seem a bit foolish to injure him more just to get him to seek medical assistance and contrary to her intention. He was as stubborn as a mule on a good day, unless Ivy had a hammer and a length of rope in her bag, Thomas was not going to go anywhere. He was not wearing the scarf, what little good it would have done him anyways.

Thomas turned his attention back to Erin.

“And you. Decided to take a break from Parce, did you?”

How did this become all about her all of the sudden? And with that tone? "Dude, outta the water," she exhaled with an exasperated tone of her own. Her mind fixated on him being less stupid and a lot more safe. She was soaked herself, while there might not have been a risk of hypothermia she was still chilled to the bone as she extended her hand. "The fuck did I do to piss you off this time," she muttered if Thomas accepted or not. "And I guess so," she admitted as she finally answered his previous question. "Sure he is around someplace," she shrugged rather indifferent. She was used to Parce disappearing for weeks if not months at a time. He had so few expectations to fulfill, even a proxy was able to surpass them.

"Looks like you are popular with the girls yourself," she glanced and gave a nod towards Ivy was it? "Something about perpetually pissed off men that girls go for," she half-kidded, but the observation was based in truth in a way. "If I could trust you to not run into the lake and drown like a lemming off a cliff, I could leave you in her semi-capable," aka incapable "hands." Last time Thomas was soaking wet she got a nearly naked hottie, so Thomas could keep up the damsel in distress routine if he really felt the need but it would really suck if he got seriously hurt. "But seriously, cut the crap. Not like Parce is here to strip and give you warm clothes again." Damn dirty shame that was...

Thomas threw back the shawl and coat. "No! I'm not wearing that!"
Ivy was unsure of whether to be offended that he was refusing her help or relieved that he was alive enough to throw something and talk. "If you won't wear them, I will," she settled on, narrowing her eyes at him, but she gave him a small smile as he scooted backwards on the shore. To be truthful, Ivy was glad that he had refused the particles of clothing. She had always been particularly subject to cold weather, even though it was already spring. Ivy blamed the years of being shut up in Bellamy Manor, which was stifling hot all year 'round.
"Not going to the Wing, you cannot make me," he said, pouting. Ivy had to hide a smile. First of all, he looked like a toddler, throwing a tantrum about not getting any sweets. And second of all, perhaps she couldn't make him, but Erin certainly looked as though she could. With her cheeks red with anger and purple hair whipping around her shoulders, she looked like one of those villains from the Muggle storybooks.
Ivy was surprised when Erin stated, "Nope. He's evil."
"But-" Ivy began to protest.
Thomas looked at her closely. "Ivy?" he said, sounding surprised.
"That's me," she replied, a little sarcastically in her relief. Her parents would kill her if they knew she was talking to the boy they had tried to keep her away from in order to "shelter her pureness". Ivy rolled her eyes. Her stupid parents and their purity obsession.
"And you. Decided to take a break from Parce, did you?"
Ivy frowned. Who was Parce? Probably a Slytherin, she decided. By the colour of Erin's cheeks when she replied, despite her indifferent tone, she assumed it was a boy. She wanted to ask if
'Parce' was a love interest, but it seemed rude, so she kept quiet.
Ivy's own cheeks coloured when she heard Erin mention that Thomas, too, was quite popular with the girls, nodding towards her. Immediately, she stepped backwards slightly as her stomach swooped. Ha! It was an absurd thought, her and Thomas getting together. Her parents would probably murder her.
"I think you're mistaken," Ivy informed Erin. "Thomas and I are simply-" she paused. What were they? Friends? Classmates? Acquaintances? Ivy was yet to establish this with Thomas, and Erin's next remark didn't seem to help her deciding.
"Something about perpetually pissed off men that girls go for."
"But we're not - you see, we aren't-" Ivy pleaded. "We aren't - well - together." She whispered the last three syllables, as if her parents were there. She turned to Thomas. "Thomas, tell her!"
The conversation turned back to this mysterious Parce again. Ivy noticed a change in Erin when she spoke of him.
Ivy wondered if she would ever talk about a boy like that, with her cheeks pink and eyes soft. And come to think of it, Thomas wasn't that bad looking - no wonder Erin stated that he was surely popular with girls. It was truly a shame that her parents had forbidden her to speak to him.

"That's me,"

Ivy confirmed like, duh. Also, she declared she would wear her own clothes if he did not. Like, duh. He was grateful she did not press him to go to the hospital any further. Why is everyone always telling me to go to the damn hospital. Thomas despised the hospital, whether the magical or muggle world. The reasoning for your presence there is never positive. They hook you up to machines and make you say things(aah). Thomas would jump back into the water before you catch him in that ghastly gown with access to the rear.

"Nope. He's evil,"

Erin announced mostly deadpan, crossing her arms. What did she mean, even prisoners get access to medical care? It was likely just her attempt to deviate the girl’s insistence he receives care. Thomas would not oppose her, shrugging his shoulders while he twisted and compressed various parts of robes, wringing the water out. “Ehh,” He was semi-evil, no use denying it. “Makes two of us.” Erin minus the makeover was evil-evil.

A racing heart combined with the intensity of the shouting match with Erin was enough to distract the boy from the cold water initially, but now his mind was catching up. Not freezing, but far too cold for a casual dip one might take in the summer. He shuddered from the chills traversing his frame, finding his footing and escaping to the other side of the shoreline where the dry rocks lay.

"Dammit! You dick!"

His eyebrows shot up when his helpless shove forced the Slytherin counterpart off balance. A momentary deer in headlights stare, followed by a desperate concealing of the amusement of the soaked and disgruntled Erin Ryan. “Oops,” He would deny his role in her tumble. “so clumsy, Erin.”

"Looks like you are popular with the girls yourself, Something about perpetually pissed off men that girls go for"

Any signs of amusement faded as Erin wasted no time in deflecting the barb about Parce. She threw the reverse uno card, intentionally stoking the fire within the first year Gryffindor. Dammit Erin.

"I think you’re mistaken. Thomas and I are simply-- But we're not - you see, we aren't-We aren't - well - together. Thomas, tell her!"

Except there was no fire, just a helpless attempt at an explanation. Simply…what? Ivy’s struggle to define their relationship was disconcerting, drawing an inquisitive gaze in the direction of the Gryffindor. “Oh, she knows. Don’t feed into it.” Thomas reluctantly glared at Erin with wide eyes. Not sure if you do, though. “Our families connected in our early childhood…” He offered Erin an explanation for their acquaintance. “Until they didn’t.” He stated with repugnance, unwilling to elaborate any further. If you knew Thomas at all, you know the despair he displayed whilst contemplating his father. He would avoid it entirely if he could.

"But seriously, cut the crap. Not like Parce is here to strip and give you warm clothes again."

With a roll of the eyes, Thomas shifted his footing and began slow footsteps down the shoreline. “Not like you’d mind.” In a sarcastic tone he implied the mere brick wall she became when seeing Parce shirtless. “It’s not even fuckin’ Parce.” He whispered under his breath, confounded that Erin could be so clueless. Her new emotions clouded any logical sense.

Thomas turned back to the pair of girls, jerking his head in the direction he was walking. “This way. There’s something I want you to see.” His blue eyes flickered over to Ivy. “You had better join. Wouldn’t be smart to travel alone so late.” Thomas continued walking, surveying the lake---the sun was nearly down, the darkness encroaching with each passing moment. Curfew was near, but Thomas? He had no intention of returning to his dorm, not tonight.

Thomas began to walk down slowly to the shoreline, while Ivy was glancing up at the castle, wondering how long they had until curfew. She frowned at his back.
“Where are you going?” she called.
Turning back to face her and Erin, his blue eyes flashed with excitement. “This way. There’s something I want you to see.” Ivy wasn’t sure whether he was talking to just Erin or her as well, and was already thinking of the long hike she’d have to take back up to the castle. She sighed softly. As if reading her thoughts, Thomas hesitated, then said, “You had better join. Wouldn’t be smart to travel alone so late.”
With that, Thomas spun on his heel and kept walking. Ivy ran after him.
“Thomas, it’s nearly curfew,” she said worriedly, looking up at the steadily darkening sky, then at the castle, which was lit up by the candles in the windows. “Should we really be staying out? Won’t we get in trouble?”
Still, despite this, she continued walking. Her glances toward the castle became less frequent as she began to enjoy the evening. She had never been outside in the night time – or really, at all.
Her mother had always said that they were too delicate to do so. Hmph. As if it wasn’t because of her that Ivy was so weak. Ivy was certain that if she and Alison had been given the opportunity to run around outside like normal children, she would be as tall as the others. Instead, she was short, her skin strangely pale and her social skills non-existent.
Which was why she had no idea how to bring up her childhood with Thomas. Ivy knew she wanted to talk about it, but didn’t know how to say anything. She opened her mouth, then shut it, then opened it again.
“Thomas… I’m sorry about my family and what they did.” Her voice was quiet and unsure. She still remembered the names they had called him when it came out at one of the parties, the way they had stared at him in disgust and horror. “It wasn’t right.”
Ivy looked at him and held her breath, wondering how he would respond.

They seemed to misapprehend who she meant by he is evil, not that it mattered anyways. Why drive home a point when they were compliant? Thomas had no interest in going to the medical wing, his girl-friend-person was not going to be able to make him and that was for the best. He made a jab about her being evil, if her ego was more fragile she might have started a fight about that. Rather, she had found herself ass down in the water and her detention deflected to yelling at Thomas for other reasons, there seemed to always be plenty.

“Oops... so clumsy, Erin.”

She let out a huff of air through flared nostrils. "Sure are," she replied sarcastically as she stood up and wringed out her skirt. He was in one of those piss poor moods, even brought up Parce with an attitude. At least she was sticking to one guy unlike Casanova here. She pointed out the fresh skirt fawning over him while he acted like a petulant brat. The girl was a little into him it would seem from her wordy explanation that could have been explained with sarcasm or a simple 'no.' Something she would have latched onto and tormented had she been the girl she once was.

"I think you’re mistaken. Thomas and I are simply-- But we're not - you see, we aren't-We aren't - well - together. Thomas, tell her!"

Unrequited crush, no need for Thomas to tell her anything.

“Oh, she knows. Don’t feed into it.”

"Oh, not really," Erin protested. "Besides, girls like him," she insisted. "I could say a lot worse," a thread of her former pride shown through. The only difference as she crossed her arms, she had no intention of saying worse or prodding the situation.

“Our families connected in our early childhood… Until they didn’t.”

The last part was a tell-tale sign of what ailed this relationship. A piece of information hew should have hesitated to share with the snake, his family was one of his sore sports, something she had realized early on. "It's like that," she gave the girl a sideways glance. Explains why she is into him.

“Not like you’d mind.”

She went back to yelling at him, a pastime it would seem. Not that it would last long as Thomas deflected back to Parce. Oh wait, she did that? It was harder to manage a conversation when she was not in control of it. No, she really wouldn't, she half smiled at the memory. Amazing how a scary moment could turn into a good moment, at least for her.

"You had a girl giving you clothes too," she was referring to Ivy and while she was not nearly as generous as her man it was still something. "Not my fault I enjoyed the scenery," she admitted. Her sense of meekness and shame seemed to lack.

“It’s not even fuckin’ Parce.”

[Presuming it was not heard because it was said "under" his breath, otherwise the post would be different.] "What?" She missed that.

A change of topic.

“This way. There’s something I want you to see.”

Ivy saw Thomas in a way that Erin did not. She was not capable of. She did not see a flash of excitement in his eyes. She saw an instructional message - this way.

“You had better join. Wouldn’t be smart to travel alone so late.”

D'aww, he was including her. And she was a willing participant, even if she verbalized otherwise as she followed him on his heels like a lovesick puppy.

“Thomas, it’s nearly curfew.”

"Thomas the rebel," Erin commented with crossed arms.

“Should we really be staying out? Won’t we get in trouble?”

"Worst case, a Prefect finds us and we spend an extra afternoon together cleaning owl shit," Erin was unworried. Detention did not scare her. Thomas did not scare her. "Sure, I am game Tom," Erin tested waters of her own. Still there was a sense of dis-ease. Was it the fact that she was the third wheel in this group? Maybe a bit, but she had never cared about protecting LeStrange's privacy before. Leave the girl that has an obvious thing to Thomas, let him ignore her and break her little heart. Or maybe he was into the attention, gross if that was the case. No, she was curious and there was something strange about Thomas as of late. Was it simply the fact that emotions reshaped how she saw things, how she saw the world and the people in it? Perhaps in part, but Thomas had been missing for months and while some of it might be that she viewed him from a different lens, he also appeared to her to be changed. "Where to?"

Her clothes were still wet and cold but she would be fine, likely a sniffle tomorrow. She let out a shiver. Damn it Thomas.

The girl started to talk about them. Her presumption, probably right. Third wheel status confirmed.

“Thomas… I’m sorry about my family and what they did. It wasn’t right.”

"Should I leave you two alone?" It was not sarcastic. "I can just find Parce, probably." She had no idea where he was or what he was doing. She had better things to do than stalk her supposed paramour. "And you can show me whatever later?"

Just a trick of the lighting they said...
Back Into The Water Closed
Thomas persisted to view the rocks in front of him, focusing on the direction he would need to go to arrive at his destination. Ivy did not hesitate to protest, the sound of rocks scattering from her hastened footsteps hinted at this reinforced urgency. Thomas trusted Erin was still following close behind as well, his careless tendencies would bind her involvement to ensure his safety.

“Thomas, it’s nearly curfew.”

"Thomas the rebel,"

“Should we really be staying out? Won’t we get in trouble?”

"Worst case, a Prefect finds us and we spend an extra afternoon together cleaning owl shit, Sure, I am game Tom,"

Thomas smirked at Erin’s indifference. It was a source of respect; she contained no fear for the petty consequences a school official presented. On the contrary, the violet tinted part-veela often expressed they were the ones to blame for the suspect happenings. More pressing than any repercussions, was if Ivy would expose the pair after returning to the castle. Thomas did not know her well, and he could not rule out the possibility she would inform a prefect or professor.

The boy halted, turning to Ivy. “I’m counting on it.” He stated sternly, they would most definitely get into trouble, but not for being out past curfew. Oh no, Thomas had something much worse in mind. “We’ll be taking the trail back towards the castle entrance, you can find your way back from there.”

“Thomas… I’m sorry about my family and what they did. It wasn’t right.”

A curious subject to return to, did Ivy attribute the boy’s animosity to their past. The boy noted her apology for the actions of her elitist parents was a kind notion, but now was not the time or place. “Leave it, Ivy. I don’t blame you for what happened.” He dismissed her apology, it was actually quite relieving to avoid that occasionally dreadful trip to the Bellamy manor.

"Should I leave you two alone? I can just find Parce, probably. And you can show me whatever later?"

Still trailing behind, Erin sensed the dramatic tension between the pair. “No.” He insisted as the three neared the trail, creating distance from the lake. He glanced back towards Ivy, motioning forward with his hand. “Here’s the trail. When you reach the split, take the passage that veers to the right.” Ivy may have already known, but Thomas offered directions anyway. He continued past the dirt trail and into the grass. “This way, Erin. We’d best stay off the trail.” Considering the prospect prefects or professors would scout the grounds near curfew for accountability reasons. Perhaps remaining to the outskirts would decrease the chance they are discovered.

[Ivy can stay or go at her own risk.]

The daylight steadily dwindled, but Thomas was not concerned as they would not need to change directions to arrive where he intended. Considering it would take some time before they arrive, Thomas intended to use this opportunity to discuss some lingering questions from their last interaction. What Thomas wouldn’t consider, would be the looming threats that revealed themselves after sundown—if any. “There’s something different about you,” He muttered with the intention to remain undetected by any others that may be wandering the grounds. “you mentioned they fixed you.” Blue eyes narrowed back to her, occasionally glancing towards the grass with cautious steps. “The crones?” Prying for elaboration, he would have asked immediately that evening if not for Parce-Fox-Romeo’s distracting emotional tirade.

All remnants of light from the sun were now gone, the only source illuminating from the insides of the castle or a lantern near the trail Thomas wearily distanced the pair [or trio] from. A slight breeze sent occasional shivers through the boy, still suffering the consequences from his damp robes. Thomas quickened his pace to travel past the broom shed and across the Quidditch practice pitch. He remained cautious, scanning the direction they traveled for any signs of life. Displaying no signs of slowing down prompted the question, where the **** were they headed?
