Reducio [font= Century Gothic]Quite frankly she's enchanting. Not a typical beauty, nor ethereal, but striking. Her bright green hair makes her fair skin glow, in a contrast her mother had often likened to the moon in the night sky. Too bright eyes are framed by dark brows, almost too thick for her narrow face. Her sharp cheekbones and pointed nose sometimes looked out of place on the face of someone her age, though Sarah had come to love the uniqueness of her sharp features.

She has an innate curiosity for the world which she one day hopes to experience first-hand. Her sheltered upbringing meaning she’s far less versed in the world than she’d like. [font=Century Gothic]Born to a wealthy pure-blood family, at first glance, one could easily assume that growing up Sarah had wanted for nothing. Upon closer inspection, the facade her father had spent years weaving into an image of perfection is laced with holes and inconsistencies. Since the loss of his wife and son, Jacob Lightwood has become cold - an impermeable fortress which not even his daughter had chance of breaking through, though she'd tried. Even before the accident, Jacob Lightwood had been inclined to stomp down emotions and leave difficult conversations unspoken. Sarah's mother Katya, though equally as firm as her husband in her desire to portray an image of perfection, had at least made expressing one's emotions less of the crime than it had become in the Lightwood Manor. Sarah spent many of her early years attending lavish banquets and elaborate balls though didn’t find true contentment until the first time she visited muggle London. Something about the pure imagination presented by the muggles required to create such mesmerising architecture without magic and spells simply took her breath away. Her mother had passed and her father, Jacob Lightwood, was a firm believer of Pure-bloods being superior and 'Mud-bloods' inferior to everything but muggles themselves; his archaic ways had never appealed to Sarah who’s head-strong ways had gotten her into trouble more times that she could count. Punishments were more common than hugs in the Lightwood household and Sarah couldn’t wait to leave and get to Hogwarts the second she'd received her acceptance letter.

[font=Century Gothic] A Lightwood's first instance of magic has always been greatly anticipated. A mix of the excitement held by any magically family who witness their child's first signs of magic, and the deep-rooted hatred of those who lack magically ability woven throughout the Lightwood family, meant that Sarah herself had been quietly anxious until that first glimmer of magic made itself known. Perhaps it was this ever-present anxiety of when - and Merlin forbid if - her magic would make itself known, that made the entire event all too anticlimactic. She'd been older than her brother Albert had been when it happened, a little over ten years old which was apparently far too late for her father's liking. In hindsight, it was likely a culmination of Sarah's rebellious nature and the emotional distress she'd bene privy too since the loss of her brother and mother a few years prior which had made her such a late bloomer. Not that her father had time for such excuses, no matter how acceptable they were. In fact, he'd told their wider family and a few members of other Pure-Blood families he knew that she'd been far younger when he magic had presented (and with a fantastical story which Sarah thought was so outlandish that she lost what little respect she had for those who believed it entirely). Reducio Her actual first instance of magic had been entirely mundane. She'd been running around the kitchen with a few of the house elves, something her father had repeatedly scolded her for doing, and had stumbled into a table with an embarrassingly expensive glass bowl on top of it. It had fallen immediately, and Sarah had seen her entire life flash before her eyes as it came crashing down to the ground and splintered into a thousand tiny shards of glass. Except it hadn't fallen to the ground, and it hadn't smashed, and it was simply hovering int he air a few inches in front of her. Her eyes had blown wide and she'd been terrified and then confused and then overwhelmingly excited in the span of just over a second, before the bowl had wobbled in the air and she'd had to reach out to grab it before it really did smash. Sarah had raced to her father's side immediately, excited to finally let him know that she'd done it - magic. She had hoped it would make him smile, show some pride in his daughter, or at the very least relieve some of the tension which he always held in his shoulders. But she'd been punished for running around the kitchens in the first place, and threatened to give up the names of the elves who had played with her. Her lips had been kept tightly sealed, never one to give up a friend, and she'd been sent to her room without supper. She'd been overwhelmingly hurt but the entire thing, hoping to catch a glimmer of the once caring father she'd had before the accident. She'd packed her bags that evening, ready to run away in the way that children often did. But then a blueberry tart had appeared on her dresser, the type which her father used to bring back for her and Albert after his business trips. And she found herself hoping that as emotionally stunted as her father was, he was still proud.
