Those who were fearless enough would find themselves making their way to the edge of the Forbidden Forest, doing their best to stay out of the way of any Hogwarts staff, and prefects. Getting caught would mean delaying the adventure further. Rumors had been swirling for days about a mysterious cat-like creature pacing on the edge of the forest and making eerie calls from dusk throughout the night. The cat would disappear occasionally deeper into the forest before returning moments to hours later and repeating the pattern until the sun rose clearly above the horizon. It was not a large stretch to think that the culprit had somehow interacted with the creature and that was the cause of the hairs left behind after the incident with the goblet.

The night was freezing, and snow flurries occasionally broke out, but that would not stop the students. Nor would the rather dark night. The moon and stars were hidden behind thick, roiling clouds, but the wind would blow them away occasionally letting a sliver of light shine on the grounds. The edge of the Forest seemed overwhelmingly far away from the castle, especially when there were no trees to skulk around and avoid the careful eyes of Hogwarts staff, just looking for someone to catch out of bed at this hour. Once the students grew closer, it would look vaguely threatening, the varying shapes and sizes of the trees sticking out from the Horizon looking like the jaws of an animal waiting to swallow them whole. The leaves had long since disappeared, which even though it didn’t help with the image of an animal’s jaws, it at least prevented any creepy rustling from being obvious. Instead, it would only be the random clicking of branches together when the wind decided to blow.

Once students made it to the edge of the forest, they would have to wait for the creature to appear as it did not seem inclined to be waiting for them. Quiet, whispered discussions would be held in the meantime, trying to decide what they would do. Various plans would be discussed but even the most fearless of students might forget them once they faced the vicious Wampus.

Thankfully the students didn’t have to wait overly long. Within a half an hour, the Wampus made its appearance, pacing back and forth, calling out and making it very clear where it was. Its dark yellow fur made it seem like a shadow in the darkness, and its yellow eyes gave it a horror like appearance. Then it would occasionally walk on only two legs, making it seem like it could be the thief itself. Students would need to avoid those eyes, made easy as they shone through the dark, to make sure it was not affected by the Wampus’ hypnosis or legilimency. Those with the best eyesight would notice that there were pieces of what looked like parchment paper stuck in its fur, almost as if it had rolled around in a pile of discarded notes. It added a porcupine like look to the already intimidating beast.

It was clear that the creature had teeth and claws and was not afraid to use it as any students who came near would be swiped at. The Wampus would occasionally take breaks to claw the bark of the trees nearest it before once more wearing a path at the edge of a forest. No one could say what it was looking for, or why it was there, and given the situation at hand, the only question the Gryffindor students were interested in answering was how to get the parchment. It would be left to the staff of Hogwarts to figure out how to remove the Wampus, and to determine its origins.

Permission given to mention/interact with the Wampus granted by Professor Akeem Toussaint.
Rolls

Rolls: Students have the choice of 2 actions once they reach the edge of the Forbidden Forest:
  • Try to capture the Wampus: A simple Evasion vs. Accuracy Roll will be cast if they choose not to cast a spell. If the Accuracy is higher than the Evasion roll of the Wampus (Base Evasion = 15), then the attempt to capture the Wampus has succeeded. They will be granted a clue via owl. If the rolls fail, a d6 roll will be rolled.

1-2 = Minor scratch, no intervention needed

2-4: Larger scratch, will require simple first aid and can be managed by a cloth or some band aids.

5-6: Requires a healing spell. This can be done by a teammate or by approaching a team that has someone with a healing spell. The person must cast a successful healing spell based on a WDC roll. Permission must be gained if you are not the one casting the spell and proof sent via owl to Aiko Mori or posted in the thread.

If students wish to cast a spell, a WDC roll will occur based on the duelling spell WDC’s. If the WDC roll is successful, the Evasion vs. Accuracy roll will proceed and that will determine if the spell successfully lands, or if the student misses and may be injured.
  • Follow the Wampus: If a student has the Camo Cloak, the student can follow the Wampus into the Forbidden Forest.

Once you choose this action, here will be a WDC roll. Anything above 15 can follow the Wampus successfully. Anything less than 15 gets lost and must post one post in this thread of their student wondering the forest before eventually finding their way to the edge of the forest and making another attempt.

If a student has a Camo Cloak, there will be a D20 roll for a potential surprise. If the D20 rolls anything 10 or above, the student will receive the surprise. If it’s 9 or below, they will not receive the surprise. Rolls between 10 - 15 will receive Surprise 1 and 16 - 20 will receive Surprise 2.
This is the second post in the Gryffindor Adventure. The first takes place in the Gryffindor Common Room: Stolen Reward.

Despite still feeling particularly tired and sore due to the approaching full moon, Meyra felt her enthusiasm increase with the adrenaline of the adventure that had arisen so unexpectedly. Lately, there had been rare occasions when she had escaped the routine life of a second-year student. Going from classroom to classroom, occupying the most discreet and secluded spot possible in the large library, or taking refuge in her dormitory. Therefore, even if not at the best possible timing, Meyra felt grateful that something so exciting had appeared in her more than boring life.

Sometimes, the young Gryffindor felt an immense longing for home and her life before arriving at Hogwarts. She had been born and raised in a calm place surrounded by nature, where her daily life had been full of small adventures. Like playing among the apple trees in the orchard, chasing after a stray sheep, spending hours with her mother in her greenhouse helping her tend to her medicinal and aromatic plants...Meyra missed a little bit of everything, the freedom and carefree life of a younger child, the smells of the earth, and even of her room, even with it always cluttered with paints, papers, unused canvases, books, unfinished sheet music... Not that nowadays her side of the dormitory wasn't equally disorganised. In fact, Meyra was sure that if her mother could see the state her things were in, she would give her an unbelievable lecture until everything was meticulously tidy.

But there were more reasons that night for her mother to vehemently disagree with her choices and actions. Obviously, she would be extremely upset that her daughter was sneaking out of the Common Room and looking for a way to reach the Forbidden Forest to confront a giant cat. Although, in the young girl's mind, the description of "a huge cat" seemed extremely exaggerated.

The castle corridors were dimly lit as night fell. Only the moonlight timidly filtered through the high windows, and the torches glowed in a golden-orange hue, giving prominence to the shadows. It was using these same shadows and their camo cloaks that Meyra and Raizel managed to find their way out of the castle and reach the edge of the forest without being found by any authority figure. Even though they were almost caught at the door of the Transfiguration classroom and in the Great Hall, Meyra could thank her keen werewolf instincts and her cousin's perspicacity for how they managed to remain hidden and out of sight of those patrolling those areas that night.

The night was cold, with a frigid breeze that promised winter was near. Not that Scotland was one of the warmest and sunniest places in the world for the rest of the year! Meyra tucked her cloak and camo cloak around her neck, trying to combat the cold that stubbornly seeped through the fabric of her clothes. Keeping her steps as light as possible and always a step behind her older cousin, the young Lancaster walked among the withered and somewhat ghostly trees of the forest. Not that the scenery intimidated her or made her regret her decision, no...not really. She would do her best to remain as invisible and inaudible as possible as part of those unseen shadows.

As they walked, her mind wandered to what it would be like if one day she could be a free wolf on a full moon night, and could run and roam that forest with Jun, Colin, Liam and the others. What would it feel like to be there, being part of what was dangerous and most monstrous in that place? She certainly wouldn't be afraid, but deep down she felt that something would undoubtedly change within her. Something would awaken inside her, without a doubt, embracing a dark side that she knew existed within her, but which she had not yet allowed to emerge.

Her spiral of thoughts was interrupted as soon as her ears caught the sound of footsteps above the murmuring voices of the other students nearby. Her green eyes immediately searched among the twisted shapes surrounding them for something responsible for that sound. The first thing she saw was the glint of a pair of amber-yellow eyes that watched menacingly and impudently at the intruders in its territory.

Instinctively, Meyra crouched behind one of the nearest bushes. Her eyes, adjusting to the lack of light, finally managed to distinguish the shape of a considerably large feline. Her eyes widened slightly as she recognized the creature. "A wampus?" she whispered to Raizel, trying to keep her voice as low as possible. Even though few things frightened her, Meyra was not devoid of common sense and intelligence, and she knew that a wampus was not a creature to be trifled with.

Squinting and concentrating more intently on the creature's figure, Mey managed to make out the pieces of parchment stuck to its fur, visual proof that the rumors weren't entirely absurd and that the feline and the cup's disappearance might indeed be connected. "I vote to follow it and hope it will lead us to the culprit." Mey whispered, almost inaudibly, so only Rai could hear her.

Sneaking out wasn't as hard as she thought it would be despite a couple of close calls that might've put a stop to this adventure of theirs. In cases like this, one would expect that the house of the brave and the reckless would be fired up with their hard earned reward stolen, thus a strength in security would've been done so to prevent those who had decided to follow their sense of adventure from sneaking out. Alas, the lady in the portrait is only one person, not enough to keep the sneaky Gryffindors from leaving their common rooms. While some got unlucky, others were now on their way to the next stage.

Her and Meyra were one of the lucky ones. Through the corridors and out the door and eventually, they found themselves within the grounds of Hogwarts and in the far off distance, was the infamous Forbidden Forest. Luckily, both have their camo cloak with them which should help them out this time. She had only been there once with Prat Pass and they had quite an encounter with a Centaur. It was an experience that she would always keep in her mind for how unique it was. Heart pounding and nerve-wracking, that's what it was. This would then mark her next adventure within it considering where the culprit of the stolen cup seems to be leading them. Wampus, she heard Meyra say. Was that the true culprit? Or perhaps a pet of the real mastermind? There was only one way to find out and Meyra seemed to have the same idea as her.

“I’m with you all the way.” It was too late to back down now and besides, this was way better than lazing in the dorms. Since when did she back down when things start to get a bit dangerous? She was the same girl who had taken on Confringos from older students during duelling practice, the same one who had challenged those above her year level. While those antics of hers were now in the past, her reckless spirit hasn't changed one bit.

𝔄s they slipped into the hallway, Evelynn reached forward to catch hold of Marshal's clothing for the briefest of moments. Just enough to make him pause and glance back. Enough for the younger gaggle of students ahead to put some distance between themselves and the two upper years and for her to nudge her head towards the shadow of a side corridor. She didn't say anything at first, a single slender digit having lifted to her lips. Eyes and ears were plentiful along the halls of Hogwarts and even the smallest sound could carry well beyond the bounds of vision when the world was blanketed by darkness. If they were going to make it to the forest's edge to try to cut off the eagerly ignorant juniors, they would first have to avoid notice themselves.

To that end, Evelynn's years as prefect came in particular use. Her interest in the castle's layout had been sparked the moment she set foot across the threshold of the Great Hall doors, but it wasn't until she had been granted free roam of the corridors after hours without repercussion that she was really able to map it out. No doubt there were still countless secrets left unknown to her, but she had amassed a plethora of useful information about the various shortcuts and problem spots over the years. Even with the gradual changes to scenery and decor as various professors came and went, the lioness was able to smoothly guide Marshal through its expanse from floor to floor and eventually out a small little side door through a storage closet that emptied into the frigid air.

A pervasively earthen aroma carried itself beneath the smell of ozone, suggesting their proximity to the greenhouses. Habit led her to glance back over her shoulder, but she quickly hurried forward again, shrugging against the cold. The cold bit through her and she lamented not having spent the extra minute to return to her dorm for her shoulder bag. She also resisted the very tempting urge to reach down for enough fuel to start a little Gubraithian Fire for the pair of them. While the warmth would have been nice, it was too risky, too noticeable. Beneath the occasional flurry of snow and wind, however, at least their voices would be unlikely to carry.

"Of all the manners by which I intended to spend the rest of the night, this was not it.." she murmured, lips crimped in almost puzzled disgruntlement as she glanced up towards the heavens to mark the phase of the moon. The bright, but still partially obscured, face of a waxing gibbous reflected down upon them, just as her notes said it would. It was convenient, really. The light of the moon reflecting against the snow provided enough illumination to see by, but not so much that they would be easily picked out in their trek across the grounds. Provided they were careful.

Shaking her head, she continued. "It is a wonder that half these students even make it to the end of every semester. Luck, I suppose.." she mused. A plume of condensed breath lost itself to the night as she exhaled, as though preemptively releasing the spirits of any youngsters who happened to wander into the forest this night never to be seen again. It wouldn't be the first time. It wouldn't be the last. Part of her wondered why she was en route to that very destination. So very often corralling the younger generations felt like an exercise in futility.

Snow crunched underfoot and a different sort of chill began to take hold. This night really wasn't entirely unlike that night almost exactly a year ago when Marshal and Evelynn had shared a much-too-close brush with death in the forest. Trauma bonding always had been a sort of keystone to the start of their earlier relationship, and turn of the table had brought with it a sort of unspoken truce that had sanded away the edges of more recent hostilities. Then the tarot reading at summer camp had followed with the shadow of an olive branch. Still, one could hardly call the once-joined-at-the-hips pair friendly, and as the marched in proximity, Evelynn crawled internally at the rather unfamiliar disquiet.

"I know nothing about the trophy," her voice eventually broke the silence once again, harkening back to his original question in the common room. "What sightings of a large cat at the edge of the forest has to do with what was obviously some sort of prank, I haven't the faintest idea. But clearly they—" she gestured vaguely in the direction of the castle's looming silhouette behind them "—seem to think there is some sort of connection. In truth, I care little about solving this particular 'who dunnit' and more about—"

Her voice trailed off, steps slowing to a stop. As they approached the forest's edge, something caught her eye. A subtle sable glinted through the trees, periodically darkening to little more than a swift-moving shadow. She had a hard time tracking it. But there was certainly something there. And then she got a clear enough look at it. It was only for a few seconds, but it was all she needed to see. They weren't exaggerating, the rumors. It really was a large cat. A very large cat. And one with six legs.

"Wampus," Evelynn remarked, cold and social history suddenly forgotten. Her posture stiffened, her mind reeling at the revelation. "But how?" How—why—was there a Wampus here? They were native to North America, specifically near the Apalachians. Not the UK. Was it even real? Or perhaps a conjuration, or a transfiguration made simply to look like a Wampus? That would certainly be more credible. The creatures were famously elusive. She had an exceptionally difficult time believing that one would somehow find itself on a foreign continent to flirt with the over-run stomping grounds of a wizarding school.

If it was a Wampus, though...

She didn't even give herself time to entertain the notions. "We need to detain it," she said quickly, unable to justify any other conclusion. There was no time to elaborate further. Already her pupils were thinning to slits, nails lengthening into pointed claws. Fur sprouted from her skin even as her ears enlarged and swiveled back. In a matter of moments, a second large cat prowled the edge of the forest. To a novice observer at a distance, they might even have appeared to be of the same species. Only this one had auburn fur, reflective eyes of molten silver, and a series of scars, the most prominent of which was a lichtenburg figure that ran from the creature's right shoulder down to its foreleg.

And then Evelynn took off running after the creature, wide paws easily maneuvering upon the snow with bounding strides. In truth, she wasn't even entirely sure what she would do if she managed to catch up to the magical beast, but every fiber of her being compelled her to close the distance. Between the form her animagus transformation had taken and the core of the wand that had chosen her, there was no denying her affinity for the feline.

Encounters at the Edge of the Forest Gryffindor Adventure PV
Like a bottle with an unstoppered seal, the contents of the common room poured into the halls and bled down every corridor, as students left in search of answers for what had been done.
Marshal felt a sense of exasperation wash over him as he watched his younger housemates scuttle away from their quarters and toward an uncertain fate. What were they teaching these kids these days? He’d done his share of sneaking out over the years, of course, but he’d had the sense to feel some semblance of shame… initially. Most of these kids simply strolled out like they were on a field trip. Green leafs who thought themselves veterans.
If they weren’t careful, the Forbidden Forest would baptize the lot of them before they’d a chance to regret it.

The sixth year had a route of his own in mind, plotted through years on the rule-breaking side of things, but a tug on his sleeve redirected his gaze toward Eve, who melted down a path of her own device.
Marshal shook his head before obliging to follow. He’d outgrown the dependence he once placed on her guidance, and that left even such a simple act now to grate against his nerves. Perhaps it was maturity, or necessity, but he swallowed that pride and let her lead.

The cold was his first indication that they’d escaped the castle, prompting him to raise his hood against its frigid breath. In that moment, he found himself grateful for his own tendency to wear hoodies even within the walls during these colder months. His hands met in the pouch near his abdomen as the wind cut through the fabric; yet it was certainly better than nothing.
Evelynn’s voice rose on the air, barely loud enough to rival the wind against Marshal’s ears, which made him wonder if she’d even been speaking to him.
Regardless, he would reply, ”Intentions are no better than dreams. The world couldn’t care less about them.”
Somewhat ironically, the comment came out more bitterly than he’d intended, though it was just that — a bitter observation.

He saw her shake her head, and assumed it to be in reaction, but her words instead reflected thoughts directed toward the young students they now pursued.
Allowing her to finish, he considered her conclusion, silence spanning the hesitation. Ultimately, he found a different opinion. ”Could be luck, but luck runs out in theory.” He thought of every time he’d cheated death, and the sheer number of examples in his limited lifespan. ”Fate just seems unwilling to let some of us go, whether we like it or not.” He didn’t look at her, focused only on where his feet would fall and where they were headed, toward the forest. The crunch of snow signaled their progress across the grounds, lifting against the stillness of nature’s winter night. Plumes of vapor outlined the silent breath of his companion, rhythmically teasing the fringes of his vision as the wind snatched them greedily away.
It brought to mind that night a year prior, when fate had once again denied a death, but one beside his own for once, due to his presence at a particular time. He found himself glad that those breaths still puffed from her lungs.

Again she punctured the reticence between them, insisting that she knew naught of the missing trophy, nor any connection it had to large felines in the area. In response to that the sixth year did look at her, one eyebrow raised in obvious skepticism. He didn’t exactly think she was involved in some mindless prank surrounding the house cup, but the fact that these rumors had arisen on this exact night still seemed awfully coincidental. Not that he overly cared to solve this mystery either; his interest had been primarily piqued by the rumors and their apparent connection to the former prefect.
His mouth opened to respond once her sentence reached its end, but it never got there.
Following her gaze, he saw it was fixed on the forest’s edge; and after a bit of searching, he locked onto what she’d seen. Swift-moving, sleek, predatory. There was no mistaking the prowl of a feline, and this was certainly large.
He cocked his head. ”That’s…”
”Wampus,” she finished, though he’d simply been about to say that it was a large cat.

With the only warning being that they needed to ‘detain’ it, Evelynn almost immediately began to change. Seeing the girl’s ears enlarge and shift upon her skull, Marshal took a step back and watched the shift take place, an expression of disgusted fascination on his face. He’d never seen it happen right in front of him, and frankly wished he wasn’t now.
At the very least it happened quickly, and he was left watching as another large cat bounded toward the tree line.
A sigh escaped him. He didn’t exactly have good memories associated with this cat and those trees; but it seemed he had little choice in the matter. He hadn’t helped her that one time only to let her go and have a cat-fight alone now. Yet even as the wand found his fingers, he found himself gripped by the same reluctant pride he’d felt in the castle halls.

Encounters at the Edge of the Forest Gryffindor Adventure PV
Mod Post

Those who made it to the forest would be surprised that the cat they had thought might be a cougar or some other cat was in fact a Wampus. There would be no obvious explanation for why it was there, and one would not be forthcoming. The Gryffindor students had other priorities, namely keeping away from the Wampus’ obviously dangerous teeth and claws, and for those who had studied the creature in Care of Magical Creatures, it’s no less dangerous hypnosis or legilimency skills.

First to attempt any plan of action would be Meyra. Surrounded by the Camo Cloak, she would blend in with the surrounding forest. It was no hassle to wait until the Wampus decided to move away from the edge of the forest, on its way to its nest for a brief respite from its pacing and yowling. Unfortunately for Meyra, the cat itself seemed to follow it’s own version of a path, one that seemed to have no rhyme or reason. Stumbling over a root of a tree, she took her eyes off the beast for one moment, and lost sight of it entirely. She would be lost in the forest.

Thankfully her cousin seemed to have more luck. Raizel had his own camo cloak, and had made sure to bring it with them. They seemed to have the same thought as Meyra and wrapped it around themselves, waiting to follow the Wampus with Meyra. But while Meyra had an unfortunately timed stumble, Raizel would find themselves with their eye on the prize. However that focus meant that they would miss out on a glow that was just off the path that the Wampus followed. But that seemed immaterial when Raizel managed to follow the Wampus to its nest. There would be more pieces of paper strewn within the nest, and Raizel would carefully follow the Wampus’ pattern, waiting patiently to determine when Raizel could dodge in and grab one. It took longer than anticipated, but finally with a growl, the Wampus headed back to the edge of the forest, and Raizel made sure they were well out of it’s path. Running in, they grabbed one of the pieces of paper, extracting it carefully from the nest without ripping. Turning around, they made their way to the edge of the forest, stumbling upon Meyra randomly as they did so and beckoning her to follow. Opening the clue, they would have their next direction, ready to find the culprit.

Evelynn and Marshal meanwhile would ignore Meyra and Raizel’s attempts, instead focusing on their own strategy. Evelynn would use every advantage she had, which in this case would mean transforming into her animagus form, a North American cougar. It would be similar in looks to the Wampus but differ in behaviour. Another few moments, and Evelynn would go on the offensive, determined to pull one of the pieces of paper in the Wampus’ coat. Unfortunately for Evelynn, the Wampus would be faster than she had anticipated. It dodged away from the oncoming cougar, and twisted to swipe at Evelynn’s side with its claws. Satisfied with the damage it had caused to Evelynn’s side, the Wampus paced away from the injured cougar.

Marshal, while concerned for Evelynn would be focused with precision on the Wampus. Perhaps to make sure it did not return to do more damage, or perhaps they were determined to get the paper that their partner had failed to attain. Whatever it was, they pulled their wand out, thinking carefully over what spell they would cast. The first to come to mind was a second year charm, one that would hopefully temporarily freeze the Wampus in its tracks. The spell would be successfully cast, and whether it had been focused on Evelynn, ignoring Marshal or had just been slightly slowed somehow, the spell landed. Taking advantage of the momentary frozen Wampus, Marshal made sure to avoid its eyes while he came close enough to grab the clue, carefully pulling it from the Wampus’ fur. Now they had a choice to make, heal their partner or read the clue and figure out where to go now.

Calming Presence in Effect: Allies Unselected [yet]

Such a Lovely Night to Tempt Fate
And Such a Terrible Night to get Lost...

───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

The troubles of escaping via a shifted form were few but glaring, and it took some preparation work to ensure he had what he needed in order to continue headlong into the folly of chasing after a useless golden cup (excuse for missing the first mod post). He simply had to accept that he likely would not have as many tools in his toolbox as he would have liked, things that his tiny form would not naturally be able to carry with him unlike some other powerful forms with better claws or teeth for their purposes.

Small meant stealthy, but it also meant slightly less utility for some purposes and intent. In the end, his wand was thrown out the window first, and he followed swiftly after so that he could retrieve it from where it had fallen.

Most would have viewed the venture into the woods with some measure of trepidation, but at this point Piérre only beheld it with a grimly exhausted sort of acceptance. It always came back to these trees, he was sure of it. Even if he had not been blessed (or, perhaps cursed,) to know the darkest secrets of these woods, there was a primeval instinct that could be argued to be the natural premonition of man in some regards, that indicated that the most unknown place to all--the forbidden place--was the place where secrets slept deepest and roused with a similarly unfathomable vengeance.

So it was not a surprise that there should be such a great and powerful creature lingering in those woods. Thousands of tales, rumors, had already been spread about similar things.

But he wasn't interested on being on ground-level with it if he could help it. Between agility and his alternate form, he was sure that he could navigate a... much higher position. He would attempt to climb the trees nearest to the melee that (until he got closer would unbeknownst to him be readily handled by both a large cougar Evelynn and another intrepid sixth year Marshal) and then follow chaos through the branches, shifting in and out of his flying shape as much as he could without losing his wand--a pseudo-shift most ideally, just enough to get him enough distance to the next tree--a shape that seemed to be resisting him every time he tried to let himself slip into its grasp.

The creature was stunned already, clean spellwork that Piérre was not eager to try his own hand at would ensure that the creature if nothing else was still groggy and not entirely "with it". It was that fact that he intended to take advantage of, before it tried to hurt others further or slip away.

Chewing his bottom lip for a second, the corner of his lip twitched and then he committed to the bit. Rustling the branches around him and leaping noticeably from one large one to the next, he sought to catch the golden eye of the great beast. "Hallo there! Heyyyy kitty kitty kitty!" He spoke to it loudly, similarly to how he would catch Figaro's attention. "Pspspspsp! Here, puss puss! Such a pretty kitty!" He danced a little further, hoping that movement would attract it further. "Such a large, pretty kitty. Do you like birds? I know where you can find one!"

There were plenty of copses in the Forbidden Forest, areas where vines and brambles were so threaded into one another that only precious few small creatures could make their ways through it with ease--though from his experience often this was at the cost of finding out around halfway through the bracken and then realizing that there was no way to turn back, at least not with considerable difficulty.

This was where he planned on leading the large Wampus cat towards, if he could capture its attention long enough to enact his plan.

Kibō allowed himself to be scooped off the ground and twined himself around Pyce's neck and shoulders. As the two of them approached the tallest boy in the room, Kim turned his head to see them. "There you are." He murmured and offered Pyce a smile. Kim felt a little off right now, there were too many people in the room and chaos was erupting now. It wasn't that fun for him. He needed to get out of there but luckily that was what a lot of other students were thinking about doing. The idea of being able to get some fresh air was nice....

Especially at this time of night, doing such a thing was very appealing to him and the fact that many other students were also going to attempt this made it better. A lot of them would probably get caught which meant the prefects and staff would be caught up with them and would let Kim himself slip by unnoticed. Kibō seemed content to ride on Pyce at the moment and Kim let him. "Let's head outside and see if we can find the Cup." He told him. Kim turned to Sere. "This can't be your very first time breaking the rules, can it?"

"It really gets your adrenaline up and gives you a rush of dopamine." He told her with a smile. "Stick close to me and we'll succeed." Kim told them.

He was about to head towards the door when suddenly Kibō uncoiled himself from around Pyce's neck and shoulders and slithered over and up onto Kim again. A smirk came to his lips. "You missed me that much, huh?" Kim said with a shake of his head. The trio proceeded through the common room portrait, sticking together. At first it was a piece of cake, the only dangerous part came when Kim almost missed a step and fell down the stairs. But his agility made him able to catch his balance, along with Kibō helping him out as well.

He managed to make it all the way out to where the forest awaited them and glanced behind him to note Pyce and Sere were only a few steps behind him. "It seems as if there have been rumors circulating lately about people seeing some mysterious cat-like creature pacing around the edge of the forest. Perhaps whoever stole the Cup tossed it to them. What do you think we should do? Follow it or capture it? I'd recommend following it because it might lead us to where it brought the Cup."

Kim told them and pulled out his Camo Cloak. "Do you have your cloak with you?" He asked them. "It'll come in handy here." He advised, looking over at them.

𝔚hen Evelynn had bounded after the large cat, she'd been under no illusion that her efforts would actually amount to much. If the creature really was a Wampus, it would display a level of speed and dexterity unrivaled by anything she had every witnessed in the past. The six-legged creatures were said to be so swift as to be able to outrun arrows, and with a gaze that could sieve through the surface thoughts of any they perceived. With that in mind, it would be exceptionally unlikely to surprise a Wampus, and nigh on impossible to catch one in pursuit. She wasn't entirely certain what to expect while snow crunched and powder puffed with every lengthening stride she closed, but it certainly wasn't to be engaged.

Just as she might have expected, the creature proved agile. Moreso than Evelynn could overcome. Razor-like claws swiped at the Gryffindor whenever she drew near, keeping her at bay. She managed to avoid their bite on most occasions, springing back to maintain distance and attempt to circle around. What was perhaps more curious than its behaviour, however, was just how unkept the creature appeared. Beyond the shadows of the forest, the light of the moon revealed numerous leaves stuck to the beast's pelt, as though it had been rolling in piles of foliage. Not leaves, she realized a moment later, but rather bits of crumpled parchment.

Her confusion deepened as the plot thickened, the evidence indicating that this Wampus had not somehow ended up here in error, but had been planted here with purpose. But by whom, and why, and what could this possibly have to do with a juvenile trophy? As it became increasingly clear that detainment of the Wampus was not going to be an option—the disparity between her own physicality and its was only too prominent—she turned her attention instead to the bits of paper. Perhaps if she could just get close enough to snag one of them, at least some sort of answers might be had. And then they could report the creature to the staff for later securement.

But it was swifter than she. Crimson spattered in stark contrast against the snow, appearing almost black in the dim moonlight. Evelynn couldn't help but let out a pained cry, the sound a terrible wailing sound, as the force of the rake knocked the air from her lungs and sent her careening back. Packed snow buffeted the landing, nearly swallowing her where she landed even as a streak of light flew overhead. Footsteps encroached. Ears flattened; teeth bared; and she hissed with hackles raised as she tried to push herself back to standing in preparation for a follow-up assault.

Easier said than done. Her limbs felt heavy, unwieldly and tremulous as she tried to put weight upon them. Lifeblood splashed with every ragged movement, a searing agony tearing at her side. Breaths came in gasping groans. A shadow moved past, the sound of crunching snow receding with them. Dilated pupils allowed her to take in the scene of Marshal with just enough time to pluck a crumpled note from a peculiarly immobile Wampus. But as she approached, her strength seemed to give out, cold snow rushing up to meet her, a pool of crimson very gradually creeping outward like a grounded flare in seek of assistance.

By the time Marshal turned, Evelynn had reverted to her human form, back to the snow, her gaze heaven-ward. As much as she would have attempted to temper it, pained effort ravaged her expression. Her breaths came shallow and rapid through parted lips, the subtle glimmer of reflected moonlight betrayed the tears that trickled down and froze to her cheeks. She braced her arm against her side and across her torso in an effort to apply enough pressure to staunch the bleeding, and all the while fingers of her opposite hand—slick with blood and frigidly clumsy—attempted to fish her wand from up her sleeve. Whether she'd be able to maintain composure enough to enunciate a spell to heal herself would be another matter entirely, however.

Fortunately, she wasn't alone—or perhaps fatefully.

Fate just seems unwilling to let some of us go, whether we like it or not.

The irony of Marshal's earlier sentiment wasn't lost on her, his words rising once more to hound her in this moment of vulnerability. She couldn't help but scoff, the reflex bringing with it a fresh wave of groaning discomfort. Perilous situations were long ago too numerous to count on a single hand. This would just be another notch on the wand. And every time, she was either sufficiently prepared, or fortunate enough to find herself on the receiving end of someone else being in the right place at the right time. She had never believed in fate. But maybe he was on to something. Had that stroke from the Wampus landed slightly differently, her curtain may finally have been called. Yet it hadn't. Still, it was deep enough, she could tell, that if no aide was rendered, she would eventually succumb.

"Mar—" She coughed weakly, grimacing as the movement flared white hot within her torso, fingers balling into a fist against her chest. "Marshal." Her wand had found its way to her fingers, but fingers that trembled just a bit too much with the cold and adrenaline to be able to reliably trace a spell without risking inflicting further damage. "It seems..." Unable to utter a full sentence without having to pause for frequent breaths, her words came through punctuated. "..I need...your help...once more."

While they generally sport tawny-beige fur, Miss Decipio's animagus form has light auburn fur with sandy-grey underbelly, chest and facial markings. Black-brown fur marks her ears, face and tail (as pictured). At 53 kg and 2.24 m from nose to tail tip in length, she measures slightly above average for a female specimen of this subspecies. Although puma eyes commonly range from brown to golden, her animagus mirrors the grey irises of her natural human form.

"Is it written on my face?" Sere laughed dryly. Right, she had never intentionally tried to break the rules. This was her first time. The girl pushed herself close behind Kim, next to Pyce. Her heart was pounding until finally... she did it! She managed to sneak out of the Common Room. Sere's steps were swift but silent as she walked down the castle with her two partners.

As soon as she arrived outside the castle, the cold bit her skin. Oh, I should have worn my winter cloak! She was only wearing her uniform, and even this winter uniform's outer was a loser battling against the low temperature. I didn't know early December in Scotland could be this cold! Or was it because she'd never gone -sneaking- out over midnight before? Sere hugged herself and continued to walk closer to the edge of the forest.

"These cat-like creatures... could it be a Wampus?" Sere guessed. The whole thing about magical creatures stealing the Cup was still a strange story to her, but after hearing Kim's explanation, it all made more sense. What if this theft was someone's doing and the innocent Wampus was only dragged into the scenario? It sounded more plausible than a cat-like creature stealing the House Cup. "Then it's better for us to follow it." Capturing a Wampus was absolutely a bad idea. Sere shuddered. She could imagine the dark-yellow fur, those piercing yellow eyes, and that sharp claws. I would never be an equal enemy for that kind of creature.

Seeing Kim wearing his camo cloak, Sere opened her enchanted satchel and pulled out the same item. "I hope this can help against the cold too." The girl donned the cloak and observed the forest. When the creature showed itself, she would tail it, just one step behind Kim.
