Emma had tried, she honestly could say she tried. But the splinters that she had received yesterday in the duel that Hufflepuff unfortunately lost were stubbornly stuck where they were. Although a fellow Hufflepuff had at least managed to remove two of the four splinters. But the other two were stubbornly stuck, no matter what she or the few others she had asked to help had tried. So to the Hospital Wing she went, although she waited at day to see if they could be worked loose. And honestly it wasn't as bad as other injuries so she had debated it. However she couldn't deal with the slight pain, and just knowing something was under her skin. It made her feel a bit weird, and she wanted them removed before classes tomorrow.

Looking around, she sat on one of the beds, her legs not entirely able to meet the floor. Keeping her arms on her lap to avoid putting pressure on the splinters, she looked around curiously, setting her legs to swinging. She decided she'd wait for the Nurse to be available, especially as it wasn't an urgent thing. She could deal with it in classes tomorrow, but didn't want to if she could avoid it.

River walked slowly into the Hospital Wing, gripping her right forearm tightly. Jarringly bright drops of red blood slipped between her pale fingers as she attempted to put pressure on the wound. She had tripped over a vanishing step by the moving staircases and had gotten a rather bad scrape after her ungraceful landing. The young heiress felt her pale cheeks heat up in embarrassment at the memory. Luckily, the only other person in the Hospital Wing seemed to be an older Hufflepuff girl.

She hoped the older Hufflepuff would help her, she knew that some people in other houses had biases against her house and River hoped that the girl's possible discrimination wouldn't prevent her from helping the injured Slytherin. Despite having been injured before when working alongside her mother with some of the animals on their estate, she hated the sight of her own blood. The red liquid dripping between her fingers made her feel immensely queasy.

Looking around, River bit at her lip worriedly when she couldn't see the Nurse anywhere. The older girl held her hands gently in her lap, two small pieces of wood sticking out of the soft flesh, splinters the young Slytherin supposed. Gathering her courage, she hid her wince of pain as she spoke softly to the Hufflepuff, "I apologise for disturbing you, but do you perhaps know where Nurse Sabo is?"

Dusana was busy in her office, muttering to herself about storage and organisation. Why, oh why had she organised the shelves the way she had back in December? Calming Draught next to Sleeping Draught? No, no, no! As she went to tick off another stock of potions, quill and parchment in hand, one of the Nursing Assistants knocked at her door. Ah! So her quiet day was to get a little busier. Stock take was only done when it was quiet. It was an activity to give her mind something to do.

She placed the parchment and quill on the shelf next to the disorganised potion bottles, making a mental note to move and reorganise them when she came back. Dusting off some of the dust from her long black skirt and satin pink blouse, she stepped into the Wing proper. Most of the beds were empty, except for two students.

Coming closer to the two girls, she could tell the one who sat on the bed was older. And...a prefect? Dusana wracked her head, trying to think of her name and coming up short. She'd find out any who. Stopping just behind the younger girl, Dusana cleared her throat, voicing her amusement at the girl's question just as she appeared. "You rang?" She eyed the girl's dripping fingers, red splotches hitting the floor with a soft plop. She sighed. "You really have made a mess of yourself haven't you? And now my Hospital Wing. Hop onto a bed. Separate one please."

She eyed the older girl and raised a brow when she didn't see any obvious signs of dying. "You aren't dying internally are you? If not, the other one is going first." Dusana pulled her wand out from her pocket, waved it and conjured a steaming cup of tea. It came from the teapot sitting in her office, and had been sitting a while that it should be hot, but not piping hot. Perfect enough to drink. "Have some tea whilst you wait. I'll be with you shortly," she suggested, a little more kinder than she had started. She waved her wand again, the incantation Tergeo, and watched as the small red droplets on the ground disappeared.

Blood now gone, she walked over to the young girl. "You aren't going to faint on me, are you? It's only a little blood." Dusana eyed the girl. She was stressed and in pain, but didn't seem likely to faint at the sight of blood. Dusana made a note to go check the corridors for any blood. Like a little trail of gumdrops leading to the Witch's house. Except Dusana wasn't going to eat the children. She wasn't in the mood, and really, Asclepius was too full from his meal earlier. Not really caring if the girl gave a response or not, Dusana went to remove the girl's hand from the wound so she could get a better look. Hopefully she wouldn't freak out.

River barely withheld her flinch when a voice spoke up behind her, an amused "You rang?" coming from the very woman she had been looking for. At the Nurse's comment on her blood, the young Slytherin felt her cheeks heat further and she decidedly looked away from the woman's blue eyes. She swiftly sat on one of the various empty cots and watched as the elder witch served the Hufflepuff girl some tea and cleaned up the blood on the floor with a spell she wasn't familiar with.

"You aren't going to faint on me, are you? It's only a little blood." River gave a quick shake of her head at Nurse Sabo's question. "It makes me uncomfortable, but I won't faint. I've gotten injured enough at home working with Mother's creatures that I'm used to it." It was true, the pain had already faded enough that she wasn't too bothered by it anymore. The wound was still bleeding slightly but not as bad as it had been earlier.

River hoped that this wouldn't take too long. Not only did the Nurse seem to be in a bit of a bad mood, but she also wanted the other Hufflepuff girl to be treated and she had a charms class in a few minutes. She would rather not take more time out of the witch's busy day.

Emma had been woolgathering as her legs swung, creating a simple motion that seemed to relax her. She blinked at the person who appeared, almost surprised when they spoke. She paused for a moment, her eyes widening as she noted the blood, noting that she was definitely more in need than Emma. "No, I was just waiting. But obviously that's a bit more urgent than well..splinters." Emma held her hands up slightly as if to show her wounds.

Debating whether it would be smart to get off the bed and start looking around for something to wrap the other girl's wound, Emma was pleased when Nurse Sabo arrived. Shaking her head, she held her hands up again "Just some stubborn splinters from a duel. Not very important, more of a bother really." Emma nodded at the nurse's assessment. "Fully agree, bleeding wounds first."

Smiling at the kind words, Emma grabbed the conjured cup out of mid-air, being careful not to press too hard with her hands. Taking a sip, Emma waited until the other girl finished speaking to say "Thank you."

It wasn't hard to overhear what the other student said, given that it was rather quiet in the Hospital Wing. "Ohhhh...what kind of creatures, if you don't mind me asking?" Being a third year, Emma had just been introduced to Care of Magical Creatures, and it was her first deep dive into the world of magical creatures. Having grown up in the Muggle world, she hadn't really known what really excited, and what was fairytale. She had done some looking into it from books in the library, but she hadn't really done a deep dive since she had enough to keep her busy, learning the rules of her new world, taking on her prefect role, and keeping up with her classes.

Just now realizing that maybe the Nurse would prefer they didn't speak while she was healing, Emma worriedly added, "Is it okay to speak? Or do you prefer silence, Nurse Sabo?

When the other girl asked River about her creatures her face visibly brightened as her embarrassed flush faded away. She would never deny a chance to talk about her favourite thing from back home. "We have quite a few such as a couple snakes, nifflers, kneazels, crups, salamanders and even hippogriffs, but I'm not allowed around them unless Mother is with me. I'm not allowed around the imps and other darker creatures, but I've read all of Mother's notes on them. She used to be a magizoologist but now she just takes care of the creatures she used to at home while she looked after the manor and myself as I grew up."

The Slytherin first year held her body perfectly still as Nurse Sado worked on her injury, but it would be obvious to the other occupants in the room that despite her awkward expression, she was very much excited and invested in the conversation.

When the Hufflepuff asked Nurse Sado about if they were allowed to converse, River immediately regretted her little rant. Her mouth shut with a click and she attempted to straighten out her features into a mask of polite indifference. She muttered a quick apology to the nurse, unsure if her bad mood would make her upset with the two girls.

Dusana felt her lips curl slightly upwards at the older girl as she related her injuries. Splinters compared to blood. Well there was a no brainer. Of course Dusana would tend to the bleeding girl first. But she would come back to the splinters. They could be nasty, getting under the skin and causing infection if not taken out properly.

She half listened as the young girl related all of the magical creatures at home, and she huffed out a half laugh at the mental image of a small zoo fitting into her London apartment. The Nurse was sure that wasn't where the girl was from, but the picture was too good to pass up. "That's a lot of creatures, I dare say," she declared. Dusana herself had Asclepius, but he was allowed to roam the grounds in search of a light snack. He was half-tame in Dusana's eyes, free to roam where he pleased, and staying with her if he felt like it. She paused in her inspection of the young girl's arm. "You can talk." It was a quick, slightly hard statement, but it was the truth. Dusana didn't mind it. She loved having chatter wash over her. It was better then moans of agony or screams. "What's your names?" She'd have to write a patient log later, and it was best that she received all the details.

The witch analysed the girl's arm, noticing the Slytherin robes the girl was wearing. Accioing a small towel from the shelves with a quiet incantation and wave of her wand, she wiped the blood from the wound. It wasn't the shallowest of scrapes, but should heal nicely given time. Looking at the clock, she made a mental note of the time to write in her patients log later. Turning her eyes back to the girl she questioned, "You have class in a few minutes, do you not? I can bandage your arm and send you on your way if you like."

Whilst waiting for the girl's answer, she turned to the older girl on the other bed. "If you go to the desk over there," she nodded her head turned the main, big desk cluttered with plants, papers and a half drunk teacup, "You'll find tweezers in the top draw. Mind getting them for me?" It wasn't that Dusana couldn't do it herself, but it gave the girl something to do whilst Dusana cared for the other patient. The top draw would be mostly empty, save for a few quills and nail care items such as a nail file and nail polish. Dusana knew what was on her desk, and if anything was taken she would now. Ever since being attacked in January, she would take daily inventory of the Hospital Wing. It wasn't the most fun job, and some of the Nursing Assistants grumbled, but it was better to be safe than sorry if you asked Dusana.

River startled, slightly confused when the Nurse stifled a laugh, unsure if she was the one being laughed at. She sighed internally in relief when the Nurse told them they were fine to converse and perked up when Nurse Sabo asked their names. "Oh, my apologies for the late introduction," the Slytherin girl said, wincing at the internal voice of her etiquette instructor reprimanding her for being so impolite, "My name is River Luxley, Heiress to the Ancient and Noble House of Luxley and First Year Slytherin. Well met, Madam Sabo." River's voice was the perfectly practiced blend of elegant and polite, without seeming haughty, that had been drilled into her since she was four.

River understood that most people here at Hogwarts preferred to be more casual in their greetings, she did as well, but she had been ingrained with this formal politeness around strangers since she was little. She also recognised the Sabo name as a pureblood one, so perhaps Nurse Sabo would prefer the formality. The first year would probably be a bit more casual in their next meeting, should there be one, since it was mostly first introductions that required her to present herself as the pureblooded heiress she was.

At the Nurse's reminder of her next class, River anxiously took out her pocket watch with her uninjured hand. Her thumb idlily rubbed at the Norse runes engraved in the body of the watch as she checked the time, she still had about five minutes to get to her Charms class. "That would be preferred, thank you. I'll need to be on my way soon," River said politely, watching from her perch on the cot as the nurse attended to her wounded arm as asked the other Hufflepuff girl to fetch some tweezers.

Emma blinked at the impressive list of creatures. "Wow, that's a lot. So Care of Magical Creatures must be a snap for you? Do you mind if I have trouble with homework sometime, I ask questions?" Of course Emma's mind turned to academics. She admittedly could feel the end of year exams creeping up on her and her usual fears of failure were growing as they grew closer. She knew it didn't make sense to put such pressure on herself, and it wouldn't be the end of the world not to do well in her classes, but it was how she was. She just did her best to deal with it and move on.

Grimacing slightly as she realized she hadn't even introduced herself, Emma quickly jumped in "Oh, I'm Emma Wynn, Hufflepuff Prefect." She cringed at the likely unnecessary addition of prefect, but it had become part of her introduction and after almost two or so years now she had gotten used to it. But it seemed less of a snafu after the more formal introduction that the other...River had made. That seemed like a lot of pressure, or maybe Emma was just making assumptions based on some of the royal-themed books she had read.

Emma turned to face the other girl in the room on the bed a bit better, the tea in her hands sloshing slightly, though she had drank almost half of the cup so it didn't spill. Realizing that Nurse Sabo was now speaking to her, Emma just mutely nodded, carefully sliding off the bed, and placing her teacup down with a muted clink on a bedside table. Moving towards where Nurse Sabo had directed her, she said "Left or right?" She looked around in interest, especially at the plants, wondering if they had any magical capabilities, or if they were meant to be used for healing.

Dusana nodded to the girl, River she amended, as she mentioned being on her way. Dusana quite well knew the timetable for classes and knew that another would be starting soon. Pulling her wand out of her pocket, she looked at the Slytherin girl. "Now that I've cleaned the wound, it shouldn't take long to heal." She drew her wand in a circle over the gash, pronouncing the incantation as she went. "Episkey." It was a relatively easy spell to do, something a fourth year was taught and she'd had much practice. Job done, she nodded, eyeing her work and left the girl to it. Dusana gathered the bandages and soiled items and turned to face the other girl. The Hufflepuff prefect. "You're free to go River. It should be all healed." She raised an eyebrow with her next comment, "Be careful next time. Just because I have magic doesn't mean it should quit you of being cautious, hm." With that said, she left the girl to leave or stay. She wasn't the girl's Professor and wouldn't be the one to give a detention for being late (only ic, not actually going to happen).

Placing the items in her arms on the bedside table for one of her assistants to take away, she replied to Emma. "The left one." She watched a flitter of curiosity etch itself over the girls face and Dusana smiled slightly. It seemed she wasn't the only one with a liking for things green. "Most of them are muggle plants, if you were wondering. But they all have healing properties." She listed them off, ticking her fingers as she went. Aloe. Peppermint. Chamomile. Lemon Balm. Many of her other, more serious and deadly plants were kept elsewhere. Where sticky, grabby little hands couldn't touch them. "When you find them bring them over and I'll take the splinter out."
