2023/24 Stage 3 Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff: Match 5

Axyen felt nervous as per usual about today's duel, especially after adding in the factor of what happened last time where Axyen and his team lost, it wasn't really that pleasant to get hit by those spells, as many people could probably expect. 'It's okay, it's okay... I can do this... I just have to do my best like I always do!' Axyen told himself. 'Except... last time... my best wasn't good enough to help my team win...' Axyen thought to himself, his Pygmy Puff, Arnold was currently sleeping peacefully in the dorm room and fell asleep not too long ago, so Axyen didn't need to worry about Arnold waking for quite a bit, perhaps Axyen will come back to see that Arnold has just waken up.... assuming Axyen doesn't get knocked out of course, in that scenario, Axyen already had laid out toys, Axyen also poured some food and water, that should last long enough before Axyen returns from what he considered his guaranteed trip to the Hospital Wing. Axyen continued his pacing motion, just thinking, thinking, and thinking. Axyen left the Common Room, he knew it was time to duel... in front of everybody... as expected.

Sure enough, it was time for the duel. Axyen stepped onto the stage with his teammates. For Axyen, it felt like no time passed at all... Axyen was nervous, he didn't know how he was supposed to even be slightly helpful if he couldn't even clear his mind. If he couldn't focus, then that would mean his spells would mess up - or worse backfire. 'No, remember why you're doing this Axyen... You're doing this because you want to .... become a better spell caster, impress your family....' Axyen thought to himself as he stepped up on the stage, not looking towards the crowd. 'Ignore the crowd, if I look at them for so much as a second, I'll become nervous and start messing up.' Axyen told himself, stumbling, stammering while say spell incantations was the worst situation to be in, especially if you're in the middle of an intense duel. That meant that you wouldn't actually contribute to the duel effectively, and that might slow down your teammates... never a good thing for anybody. Axyen listened to the moderator, he already planned out what he was going to do in what seemed like a million different scenarios, most of them being unrealistically specific.

'Think, think! What do I do in this situation, what is something I can think of before the match begins?!' Axyen hurriedly thought to himself, time seemed to be moving impossibly fast. Next thing you know, it just clicked for Axyen. 'Let's hope this round goes well! Let's start!' Axyen thought to himself, trying to confront all the nervousness he was currently feeling. He promised himself he would do well in this duel, but now he wasn't sure if he was able to keep that promise, but there was only one way to find out.

Cassian’s second year was almost at a close. What better way to wrap up the school year than with a final duel? It was the third stage of the dueling championship. Just a few months ago Cassian had joined the team as the youngest and newest duelist on the Ravenclaw team. Now, he had moved up from Ravenclaw’s fourth team to its third team. He felt way out of his league now.
Cassian felt good, though. He had won his first duel and now had some combat experience under his belt. Three out of the six duelists would be the same from his first duel: himself, his best friend Zach (Cassian couldn’t be more excited or relieved), and Axyen Dragonclaw (one of the Hufflepuffs from last duel; Cassian had finally learned his name after the duel). The others, Cassian didn’t know. Most of them were older and more experienced. Sam, his fellow Eagle, was a fourth year and Cassian was glad to have her as their team leader.
The short Ravenclaw boy walked up to the piste, feeling the familiar stomach butterflies of the adrenaline starting to build up. This time, however, he didn’t feel as afraid or nervous, just pure excitement. The piste is where Cassian thrived and loved to be. Cassian didn’t know the moderator, a Slytherin first year, but he must’ve been quite an accomplished duelist if he was already a Slytherin dueling captain as young as he was. Sizing up the Badgers on the opposite side of the piste, Cassian began to plan his moves very carefully. As confident as he was after his last win, one could never get too cocky in dueling; so much could change so quickly and he had to remember that.

It would be her last official duel as Ravenclaw. Soon her whole life would change. Once again, she would move to a different country. This time it would be France. Moving abroad also meant switching schools; no more Hogwarts after this year. Her only option was to win this duel and show the whole school that Ravenclaw was the best. Samantha had always been aware of the superiority of her house, and she didn't shy away from letting everyone about it. Winning the duelling championship would show everyone how amazing her house was.

As the first one, the brunette stepped onto the stage proudly right after her name was called; head high and the trusty weight of her wand in her right hand. Her teammates would get an encouraging smile and her opponents a small nod as a greeting. Out of all the duellists on the stage, Samantha was the oldest and most experienced one. She wasn't afraid of any of them. When she noticed one of the duellists of Hufflepuff comfort and encourage the other, the fourth year smiled a little. It was a nice gesture, but it wouldn't save them from their downfall.

Zach finally could take some break from his responsibilities and was going to have some fun on the piste. He stepped on the piste once Ravenclaw team was called. Along with him, there were his senior Sam and his bunkbed buddies Cass that would work togethet with him to fight The Badgers.

The boy gave a smile at the Huffle Team and he saw someone familiar there, Axyen. They had faced each other in the last duel. He had never interacted with him. And there was also a girl in his year if Zach remember correctly. Maybe they could become acquaintance after this duel, or even friends. But for now, he must focused to do his best on the piste.

"Good luck," Zach said to Sam and Cass. He was ready with his stance.

And just like that it seemed, there was another match. This time, they would face off against Ravenclaw, which she knew would likely be challenged considering the typical strengths of their house. But after last round's win, she felt like she had gained at least more confidence, especially since she was once more partnered with EmmaLee. Axyen was a bit of an unknown for her but they were both Hufflepuffs so they would have each other's backs she was sure.

Stepping up onto the piste with her teammates, she pulled her wand out, preparing herself mentally for the match. She didn't really feel the need to speak and figured she'd just nod to EmmaLee's encouragement. They had this. She repeated to herself in her head over and over, already trying to think of the best way to support her teammates in the first round.

Whatever Pyxis expected from seeing his first duel up close, this far exceeded it. Half the students on his piste missed their targets by varying degrees of distance, but all of them had succeeded in sending something towards their opponents. The Slytherin watched with wide eyes as he came to understand the level of power wizards possessed. Would he too be able to become that consistent with casting when he reached their age? He could only hope and pray to whatever deity oversaw wizards and their requests.

On the Hufflepuff side, Emma and Axyen both missed their marks. Axyen’s Petrificus Totalus went wide, shooting off above the audience in the stands. It was nowhere near the fourth year who he wanted to take down. Wildly different, Emma’s call of Tarantallegra almost nicked Zach on his shoulder, too close for comfort. Pyxis thought that it should have been a relief for the Hufflepuffs as the second year, EmmaLee, managed to strike Zach herself. The Ravenclaw would begin to feel an interesting sensation making its way up his ribs until he could do nothing but double over in laughter. That would surely make it harder for him to cast.

While Zach faced light humiliation from being tickled by magic, Axyen of the Blazing Badgers had it much worse. He too was on the receiving end of a Rictusempra stemming from the wand of Cassian, but to the audience and Pyxis, the effects seemed harsher. The tickles Axyen felt erred on the side of painful and his laughs projected much further than Zach’s. Would anyone take pity on him? Nope.

The most senior of the duellists on the piste aimed straight below Axyen to the wooden floor. This was her last duel at Hogwarts and she wanted to go out with a bang… She definitely created a bang. Axyen was unable to sidestep the explosion and the force of the blast almost knocked him over as shards of the piste flew every which way. Many of them found purchase on Axyen, clinging to his clothes and terribly, his exposed skin. Pyxis pressed his lips together in worry as the Hufflepuff was beginning to look a little worse for wear. But the badger was still standing, even after all of that. Almost like he was in a victory photoshoot, Axyen felt a strong gust of wind blowing back his hair and cooling his skin. Unfortunately, the brunt of the jolt casted by Zach had missed the Hufflepuff by a decent margin.

“Do that again,” Pyxis pointed a finger at the laughing Zach. “Or not. Point is, things are heeeating up! Uhm... I don't have to fix the stage, right...?”

Axyen naturally had many expectations on how this duel would go, both bad and good. However, whatever Axyen was thinking, whatever scenario he came up with... it did not even come close to what actually happened. Axyen focused up, aiming his wand at Samantha. "Petrificus Totalus!" Axyen called out, unfortunately for him, his spell wasn't even close to hitting the Ravenclaw. 'It's fine, this is the first match...' Axyen thought to himself. Unbeknownst to him at the time, his mindset would soon change... very, VERY soon. Axyen checked to see if his teammates managed to hit their shots. Emma missed, she nearly hit Zach though. EmmaLee seemed to do a better job though, as she actually managed to hit Zach with Rictusempra which caused Zach to begin laughing - a lot. That would make it hard for him to hit anybody. 'That's great, now I just have to dodge whatever comes my way.' Axyen thought to himself, however, he might've not realized how much trouble he was actually in.

Axyen looked ahead and realized a spell was about to strike him. 'Dodge!' Axyen told himself, but unfortunately he was hit by the spell causing him to laugh a lot. It wasn't pleasant, not even close. However, Axyen could manage... or could he? Because he then made the horrible realization that it wasn't just one Ravenclaw targeting him... no, it was the entire team! Axyen made a gasp, which actually just sounded like unpleasant laughter. All this laughing was really hurting him, hopefully he would return to Arnold(his Pygmy Puff) in an acceptable state. Axyen would notice some type of spell he has never seen before come his way. It was a natural instinct for him to try and dodge it, but as you can imagine... it didn't go well - at all. His clothes got ripped up, the spell seemed to be some kind of explosive one which of course came from the oldest of the Ravenclaws. Axyen held onto his wand, and was able to somehow manage to deal with all of that. 'Don't cry, no time for that!' Axyen said, doing his best to ignore the pain and try to deal with his horrible laughter. Even if he felt like crying from the pain, he could save that for later - preferably not have to cry at all. However, at the moment that was the least of his concerns since he felt wind blowing his air, it was unnaturally strong considering the environment they were in. Axyen was able to get the hint and move out of the way before he got hit even more.

Axyen didn't know what the moderator was saying, and he wasn't sure if he should even be worried about it, given the circumstances he was in. Axyen had to think quickly, however he was failing to think because of his constant laughing and the pain he was dealing with. Axyen decided to just see what happened instead of coming up with a plan, it was just too unpredictable and hard to come up with an idea when you've been hit by an explosive, you're laughing a lot, and you still need to worry about the duel. Axyen knew why he didn't want to give up in this situation, he had his own fuel. His family, Arnold, and of course, his house, Hufflepuff. 'I think I got it now!' Axyen thought to himself, now waiting to see what would happen next.

Emma grinned as she successfully cast the spell, but only a moment later groaned as it just missed her target. Well, that was not a good start! And it was made even worse when their opponents managed to hit Axyen. She cringed, clutching at her wand, and wishing she could do something to help. Taking a slow breath in and then out, she told herself that she would do better, and next time would be better. It had to be better. After all the last match of the year couldn't end like this.
