Camp '22 Summer Duelling Funtime Extravaganza, Match: 2

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER DUELLING TOURNAMENT
MATCH 2
────────────────────────
RULES
This match follows the rules of the Duelling System, with some slight adjustments:
  • There are three parties participating.
  • Players fall unconscious when they drop below 20% of their maximum HP, rather than 10%.
  • The team that has no player left standing first ranks third, the second team to have both players knocked out places second. If two or more teams are still participating in the duel when the 12 round time limit has passed, their placement will be decided by higher total health percentage.
  • Reminder that you cannot use spells of your new year, only spells of your previous year (including any acquired with a Prodigal ability before graduation).
  • The following spells have received clarification to adjust to the higher number of players and teams: Fumos, Metelojinx, Lumos Maxima, Cracker Jinx, Ventus
    Reducio
Fumos: The smoke affects four randomly chosen, conscious players (can include caster).

Metelojinx: The caster needs to choose which opposing team to summon the cloud over. If countered by Ventus, the caster can choose which opposing team to blow the cloud towards.

    Lumos Maxima: Affects all opponents

Cracker Jinx: The 20% spread chance will automatically affect the target's partner. If that partner is unconscious, there is no spreading effect.

Ventus: The auto-split will target a random opponent from either team (excluding the original target).
  • If there are any more questions, please reach out.

Nessie had been looking forward to this: her first chance to help out with duelling! Admittedly, in her imaginings she'd pictured it somewhat differently, with four duellists and some duelling experience of her own under her belt first, but those were mere details. What mattered was that she was stepping up to the piste to help out, and that she hoped to see some impressive duelling while she was here.

"Hi?" the little Hufflepuff began, forgetting entirely what she was meant to say now that the spotlight was upon her. She'd have to ask the more senior captains for help with that once this was all over. For now, there was nothing left to do but to wing it. "Welcome? Milosh Rehnquist, Verona Carlito Andréas, Aurelia Notrésvace, Rose Moon, Phaedra Stavrou, and Cade Darkbound ... um, your duel is about to start over here! Won't this be fun!?" Nessie beamed happily, letting her enthusiasm get the best of her for a moment, before she remembered she was meant to be responsible.

"Is everyone all set to get started?" she queried, partly because she wanted to make sure all the duellists were prepared, but also partly because she didn't know if she'd forgotten anything important. The other captains made this look a lot easier than it felt, that was for sure.

Once Nessie thought everything was in order, she gave one final warning. "Okay, ready?" She paused briefly, and then declared: "Begin!"

Patiently, Aurelia waited for her and her partner's name to be called. To whom her opponents were, she hadn't yet figured out. So when the little Hufflepuff called them over the stage, Aurelia had to blink twice. Given that they were one of the earlier matches, with only one duel commencing before theirs, this was unexpected. Not only was she duelling against 4 opponents rather than the usual 2, but one particular Ravenclaw happened to be none other than Phaedra Stavrou, a veteran duellist and the cousin of her darling boyfriend. That uncertainly challenged the dynamics and how she duelled today. Not that Aurelia was ever one for too offensive spells that her wand noticeably seemed to have a level of reticence to. The Gryffindor didn't take pleasure in delivering harm unescessarily, and the forbearing sentimental nature of her wand seemed to be in agreeance as well.

One might not believe it, but the sixteen-year-old was still rather new to the duelling stage. Having only duelled twice across five years and counting. Even if they were in the same year learning the same spells in their inventory, between the two upperclassmen, Aurelia was far more inexperienced. As she stepped on the stage, she could say she was slightly nervous. It was in her hopes that there would not be too much bloodshed today. Her gaze scanned the spectators, looking for any familiar faces, if any, she'd acknowledge their attendance with a smirk before putting her head in the game.

Wand steady, she began.

To be quite honest, Cade Darkbound's midnight eyes flickered with anticipation the moment he heard there would be a grand total of four opponents for their match. That being said, he was still quite nervous about the prospects. He knew the strength of Gryffindor's team. Knew they were formidable in their own right. But seeing as this event was international, it meant the third team hailed from other countries. Cade knew nothing of their abilities much less their names. It was hard to say from this end of the match who would prevail. There was one thing Cade was glad about and that was having Phaedra standing beside him. He knew she was quite strong in a duel having been partnered with her before. And Cade would shoot her a brief smile of recognition at her before rounding his gaze on the Hufflepuff captain. But the poor girl seemed rather ill-prepared to take on such a chaotic match. The young Ravenclaw felt for her. If he was a dueling captain at her age, he might have fainted from the pressure. Unfortunately, Cade was well versed with being unconscious thanks to starting his dueling career at age 11. But determination kept his hopes up for seeing the duel to the end. Cade took his space on the dais; rolling out his shoulder and popping his neck, he would take a breath to prepare himself. "Let's get this show on the road, shall we?"

Another summer had come around and it was time for the dueling tournaments again. Last year's chess combat had been.. somewhat chaotic and they nearly pulled off a win but had been beaten. Not this time. The blonde strolled to the area which was to be there dueling grounds. Hearing the names of his competitors and of course teammate as he walked in, a sparkle of curiosity hinted in his gaze. Three teams with two people?

"Mm this will be interesting."

He paused, setting himself in a place. Glancing around at his surroundings, mainly the opponents he'd size each of them up. It was hard to judge a character by their appearance alone so the first round he'd have to be alert to their targeting, actions and strategy. Nodding his head to his fellow teammate, Verona, a boost of confidence sparked up in him. Alas he was very competitive but he would introduce himself with a wave and a silly half bow.

"I hope to see you all again in the nurse's station after we win. Perhaps I could give you some tips." A lopsided grin made it's way onto his face before he thought to himself.

Now now, the game hasn't even begun yet, let's play nice..

Hopefully the boy wouldn't eat his words. Or if he did, maybe they wouldn't remember his trash talk.

One thing that Ronnie good at beside his academic is Duelling. Ever since he got accepted as one of the Duellists back at Castelobruxo, the Portuguese boy never stop learning and practicing his spell casting. Not to mention he knows all the spell incantations and movements by heart thanks to his photographic memory.

And so, once he saw there was a sign-up for this year's Duelling Tournament, he can not pass up the opportunity. His cousin (Cash) had told him that Summer Duelling games/tournament is a big thing during Summer camp. Ronnie might not fully understand how Quidditch works like his brother or Cash but when it comes down to Dueling, well, it is another ball game.

When Ronnie's name is called alongside the other 5 names. the second youngest of the Ramírez household took a big stride and in no time he stood up on the piste beside a boy he never met before. It seems the other boy is older than him. Perhaps a year or two. His blue-grey eyes bounced from one person to the next.

The British-Portuguese decent used to duel in two versus two settings but never in a team where he will up against the other two teams in one setting. With six wands blocking or firing spells left and right, it is bound to be chaotic and Ronnie can not wait for it. It seems Milosh knew the other team members with how he taunted them.

"I like your style,"Ronnie said with his thick English-Portuguese accent. Ronnie let out a small chuckle at how Milosh greeted him. "Verona Andréas,"the Castelobruxo student introduced himself. "But Ronnie would do just fine,"The boy continued. "Castelobruxo here. What school are you from?"Ronnie asked his Duelling partner for the day.

In the background, Ronnie could hear the Duelling Captain that will overlook this match telling all of them the do's and dont's of today match. The one that acts as their referee for today is a young girl. The girl seems a year or two younger than all of the team players combined in this particular day.

Still, Ronnie knows better. In Duelling, if you got what it takes then you got what it takes. It does not matter whether you are old or young. Dueling knows experience and talent, not age. And when the Duelling Captain gave the go signal, Ronnie put his game face on. He hold his wand a bit tighter and put his Duelling stance out.

He averted his eyes from his opponents who stood on the other side of the piste to Milosh for a bit. "You ready? Let's win this thing!"Ronnie said confidently to Milosh and then he pointed his wand forward. He is ready to cast the first spell. Although it is not what Ronnie expected (Chess Combat) for this year tournament, still Duelling is Duelling. Let the game begins!

======================================
Rose finished tying her amber hair back in a braid and approached the Hufflepuff that was moderating their duel as her name was called. The captain seemed a little younger than the duelists she called up

Rose had three wins under her belt. To be fair, she also had three miserable losses, but Rose would rather be optimistic about that. Either way, this duel was a tiebreaker for her record.

This duel was a funky duel too, since they were competing against not two people, but four people. Two versus two versus two. This was because Gryffindor and Ravenclaw had tied at the dueling championship last school year. This also meant that statistically (as Rose's brother has explained to her), they had less of a chance of winning. If you were ignoring skill and the teams only won by chance, she only has a 33.3% chance of winning compared to the 50% chance before. (Her brother was amazing at pep talks.)

Rose didn't know either of the international students, but she had dueled against the Ravenclaws before. Phaedra was a monster of a duelist, and Rose and her second year partner hadn't been able to defeat her a little over a year ago. But maybe that would all change today.

At least Rose still had a teammate on her side. If she was being honest with herself, Rose was very intimidated by Aurelia. First of all, she was a rising sixth year, which meant she had two whole more years of experience than Rose did. Rose hasn't ever dueled with somebody older than her before, and it felt a little weird. She just hoped she wouldn't drag Aurelia down. She seemed like she would be such a good duelist, and Rose didn't want to ruin her chances at a win. But even besides the fact that she was older, the Gryffindor was a little intimidating anyway.

One of the international students [Milosh] called over to the rest of the duelists. So they had an arrogant one against them, huh? Rose smiled. "We'll see. May the best duelists win."

She nodded respectfully at Aurelia, which was hopefully a signal that she was on Aurelia's side and they could win this if they worked together.

Rose took her stance. Deep breath in. Relax. Exhale out. Focus.

Rose pointed her wand at her opponents, at the ready.

Duelling was arguably the only reason Phaedra even bothered to attend camp this summer. Sitting out Ravenclaw's first tournament would deny them a senior member during a time of need, and even a conscience like hers couldn't avoid feeling a bit guilty. Furthermore, Murder of Merlin’s measly tie with their lion counterparts would not stand. After what was her most successful season yet finalised with the emergence of her own three-win streak, surely her team could do much better than settle for that.

Calculating eyes fixed on Aurelia, a contrast to her otherwise blank expression. Well, well. It was about time she faced an equal. But unlike that Jones on Slytherin she'd been itching to knock down a peg or two for years, this was none other than her cousin's girlfriend. Crush. Or... "fling", perhaps (a new, regrettable word in her vocabulary courtesy of oversharing dormmates). Whatever. The nature of their relationship was best not dwelled on, as impossible as that was knowing that they were to lob spells at each other any second now. For Lysander's sake, Phaedra would attempt to spare her pretty face.

Darkbound's voice reached her ears, a familiar force in a shockingly unfamiliar environment. Like the rest presumably felt, a duel in this manner was the last thing she had expected. More opponents just meant more chaos and instability. Phaedra did not operate on such grounds, but there was a first time for everything. Another 'first' remained holstered at her side; smoothing down flyaways on her cut hair, Phaedra used a free hand to retrieve her silver lime wand, near mint condition.
“Absolutely,” she responded to her partner confidently. Whatever happened, winning preferable, they were in it together.

Nessie genuinely hadn't known what she was getting herself into, and when all six duellists acted at once, the young Hufflepuff felt both admiration at their skill, and rather a lot of confusion over what was going on. So much was happening all at once that Nessie hardly knew where to look! There were spells everywhere - and while most duelists had aimed once, Phaedra's wind jinx divided into four spells.

Many of the spells went in Aurelia's direction, but Nessie watched in awe as the older Gryffindor escaped three gusts of Phaedra's wind and Ronnie's blindfolding spell. On the other hand, Aurelia's teammate was not so lucky, with Rose unable to avoid the remaining gust of wind.

Several spells were also headed towards Phaedra, and Nessie watched Milosh's Incendio Duo not only miss its initial target in Aurelia, but also miss Phaedra as well as it veered off course. But the Ravenclaw couldn't escape the remaining spells; one moment she lost her wand to Aurelia's disarming spell, and then the next moment Rose's full body-bind struck. It was an impressive display of teamwork from the Gryffindors, though Nessie couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for the Ravenclaw who was now wandless and unable to move. Nessie might've been a duelling novice, but even she knew that wasn't a good situation.

Although many of the spells had gone for the Hogwartsians, their guests were not left out either. A gust of Phaedra's wind had looked like it might go for Ronnie before it blew in Aurelia's direction instead, and Cade's arresto momentum brushed past Ronnie, slowing him down.

Nessie kept watching, biting her nails as she nervously wondered where spells would fly next.

Camp '22 Summer Duelling Funtime Extravaganza, Match: 2
"Be careful, that one." Holding eye contact with her teammate, she cocked her head slightly at the Ravenclaw. Making their decision. The full-body bind curse and disarming charm were shortly propelled forwards to their intended target.

As soon as they began, the wands of the two international students were drawn on her and strong gushes of wind tunnelled her way. The utterance of the incantation's first syllabus provided enough to anticipate the nature of the spell that was coming for her. Fire. Concluded with a 'duo' at the end of it only ignited a bout of firey vexation to lap in her core. The burst of malevolent fire from the wand forced his hand unsteady and towards the female Ravenclaw instead. They were barely even started and this prudish boy had already the impulse to set Aurelia aflame. "Try playing with fire again, and you'll be the one in need of a visit to the infirmary." The pretty lioness growled through seethed teeth. The coercive nature of fire was not necessary to win a duel. It was cruel and she'd teach this boy if need be.

Whether it was something about the particular nature of the witch's wand or her own arcane prowess, it was impressive, she'd give her that. All with just one incantation split a spell that shot in four different trajectories. Given the rather unpredictable nature of winds paired with the fact that the witch's wand was not pointed her way, Aurelia never expected when the howls of winds came tunnelling towards her. Paired with the whipping trail of black fabric cast. Yet Aurelia was nimble as always, her previous extensive training of dance during her young years still fresh in memory within her limbs and movements. Gracefully pivoting, arms extended to balance as she moved fluidly as if in a becoming dance swaying with the breezing winds. <hehe>
