Evening, 1st of August
Following the long train journey, students finally arrived at Hogwarts. They were escorted directly to the Campgrounds and registered again. It was, at this stage that they were given the rules for the month. These were pretty obvious but they were stated again by Professor Jensen, simply because she did not trust students to listen. She also wanted to be sure that the visiting students had no excuse of being 'unaware' of the rules. Where necessary, the accompanying adults from each of the schools would repeat the rules in their school's language for people who didn't have English as their first language.

Camp rules were very simple. Obey the curfew, follow usual school rules, don't wander off into the forest, don't be a giant jerk - you know, all of the usual things. Failure to comply would result in a detention, or worse, banned from attending future camps.

Eight log cabins provided lodging for campers, each one with a beast-bearing flag for which they were named. Three were the Avian cabins: Augurey, Occamy, and Phoenix. Across from these were the three Equine cabins: Thestral, Kelpie, and Unicorn. At either end were two cabins intended for adults only but for this year's festivities repurposed for student use: the Hippogriff and Dragon cabins. Those creatures occupying the enchanted flags mutely flexed in a constant show of "friendly" competition: beating wings, clacking beaks, stamping hooves, and soundlessly tossing their heads.

Every structure appeared deceptively humble in size on the outside, while the interiors were enlarged by extension charms, making them wide beyond means and quite comfortable. These were fully furnished with curtained bunks, personal chests, dressers, wood-burning stoves, and plush floor rugs. The layouts were strikingly similar to the dorm rooms back at the castle. Rather than having House themes, however, they featured nuances of the beast on their flag.

During registration, they also all received their cabin allocations. Students were then escorted to the cabins by an adult and given some time to put their bags down, secure themselves a bed and settle into the accommodation that they would be staying at for the month. The official feast was being set up and would start in about an hour. After which, they could attend the first campfire of the month if they wish to. Of course, they could just return to the cabins whenever they wanted to rest.

The group of students that arrived here would be the members of the Hippogriff Cabin.

Hippogriff

Eerily similar to the Gryffindor common room and dorms, for those that happen to know. It would still be a very new or different colour scheme for most of Hogwarts, at the very least, or for the visitors. There were lots of red velvets and rich woods. A common area is surrounded by curtained bunks. Each bunk had its own curtain for privacy, with a trunk at the bottom of each dorm. [Image Link]. This dorm was likely a little stricter on the curfew to prevent noisemakers from staying up in the common area all night and preventing anyone from getting any sleep.

There is a minor contrast between this and the Gryffindor area, however and this reason made it one of the most sought after cabins. This is one of two cabins with its own small indoor dining space [image Link], small kitchen and an indoor bathroom [Image Link]. This is because this cabin used to only house the adults. Many of the Professors fought over the honour of staying in this cabin as opposed to the rest due to the self-sufficiency offered here.
OOC Guidelines:
1. This thread takes place first thing (after the train journey here but before the Annual Barbecue. Takes place around 5pm-6pm on the first day.
2. It is an optional thread for all members of the cabin, serving as a 'meet and greet' thread if you need it. You do not have to post here but please feel free to.
3. You are permitted to create your own cabin threads at your leisure. Please tag it with the name of your cabin. I.E. [Hippogriff] and mark it as PV/Open as usual.
4. Only named cabin members can enter the cabin. Students cannot visit other cabins.
5. Please assume that there is an adult in each cabin, regardless of whether or not they actively post. You are not left alone in the middle of the night. Do not godmod them without permission, though.

In all honesty, Hjørdis was still slightly salty about not getting the Dragon cabin but she was more annoyed by the fact that her wine had been removed from the cabin. Of course, she had demanded that @Solomon Lear arranged to send them to her house instead but he did not have to oblige, of course. More than that though, she was a little annoyed that she had to share with students. This cabin, in particular, was not ideal for her. The dorms being located in the common room was not ideal when there were noisemakers (also known as children) around.

Despite all of this, though, it was partially her idea to share with the students. It seemed to be the wiser choice when children were not fully safe. The one good thing about this cabin, however, was the kitchen. Whilst small, it was still spacious enough for her to cook a few snacks and baked goods now and then. By which, she was thinking pretty much every day. This was, after all, summer camp and if children did not stuff their face with midnight snacks and cake now then when else would they?

She escorted her group of Hippogriff students to the cabin, introducing herself as 'Professor Jensen' to any who did not know her. For the most part, she recognised a lot of the faces but there were a few new ones. On entering the common area, they would be greeted by the sight of two plates of cupcakes - one was vanilla, the other was chocolate. There were a few eggless ones there too. The cupcakes were decorated with different coloured icing, with no real logic behind them. The table also had a few packets of crisps, as well as some nachos prepared for them. There were also some jugs of juice placed on the table, as they had had a long trip. It was not much but it was a little snack for those who wanted one before the barbecue later that evening.

She had already secured one of the larger beds in the area for herself, of course. Well, she had cheated and magic-ed it to be bigger than the others. Hers had a larger bed and, more importantly, a bigger trunk space as she had quite a large cupboard up for her vast selection of clothing and accessories.

Hjørdis was assuming that she would probably have to do the same thing for @Hugh Lowe's chosen bed, as they might be a bit cramped for him otherwise. However, she made no comment about that for now. "Welcome to the Hippogriff Cabin. Please make yourself at home and settle in. You'll be here for the month, after all. Oh and help yourself to any food or drinks. Though, there will be a proper barbecue that's promised to be good in an hour or so with more food. I'll be over there if anyone needs me," She would say to the group before she made her way to her own area, so she was out of the way. Giving them space to interact with each other was probably the best idea. She sat down in one of the armchairs in the common area. It was the one that was the nearest to her bed, where Jeger - her Bengal cat - was sleeping.
OOC Note: Jensen will be leaving snacks and baked goods daily in the cabin throughout the month. If you want to godmod her for anything, contact me. Usually happy to, just like to know beforehand.

Stomping around the grounds, Hugh's gaze met with the waving flag of a Hippogriff, proudly strutting their stuff in response to the other flags showing their best. "Now flags are bragging too..." The part-giant shook his head as he made his way to the door. He probably had to duck in order to enter the cabin, if not, he'd do it out of habit. Inside, they were met with platters of cupcakes. Hugh smiled, he fondly remembered the cake he once received from Professor Jensen. She was a great cook as far as he could tell. "Thank you, professor." Hugh would mumble with a mouthful before she left the group alone for a bit.

"Alright, Galton!" He looked around for his buddy. "GALTON! Let's go find us a bunk." Not waiting for the other guy, Hugh marched on towards the sleeping area and threw himself on one of the beds. "Yup. This is where all the naps will be happening." He didn't really know what to expect from the camp. All he knew was that he felt more like going out camping than staying over in Blackness on his own. Maybe thing wouldn't turn out to be so bad after all...

───Leaving the newly discovered family chaos back in London and Dublin had been Winnie’s pleasure. Her July had not been filled with wildflowers, ice cream, swimming, and late night bonfires like it usually had. Instead, she had spent it with her mother and paternal grandparents as her mother mourned the sudden absence of her husband, Finn.

More than that, Winnie had the displeasure of experiencing pureblood supremacy outside of Hogwarts. The Ravenclaw had assumed that, for the most part, the seemingly unintelligible ramblings of her elitist classmates had been the misguidance of their young age. Now she saw where those beliefs were bred in the form of her Great Grandmother, Aileen Hemlock. She and her paternal grandmother, Orla, had visited her home during the second week of July. Aileen had made certain to tell Winnie just how charitable she was for finally accepting Winnie as part of the Hemlock family despite the hiccup that was her ‘muggle mother’.

Winnie hadn’t been certain she wanted to attend summer camp and leave her family behind for an extra month, but after that experience she had asked her mother to sign her up. Her family had also wanted to get her away from Dublin after Winnie had been involved in a few... Physical fights with children her age.

─▪─⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅─▪─

After the long train ride and their journey to the campgrounds, she had silently listened to the professor’s rules for summer camp, most of which were basically rules they already followed at school. It would seem that fate favoured her, however, as they assigned her a cottage with not only Dee Prince but also Jack Burnett. She had little time to get excited, however, as she was soon following Professor Jensen into their dwelling. She would certainly be celebrating her new room mates the moment she saw them.

As she entered the lovely Hippogriff cabin, she rolled her huge trunk behind her. She had littered the surface of the trunk with loud and bright stickers. The spreading violet bruise with yellow blotches that rest on her cheekbone was a stark contrast to the redhead’s cheerful demeanor and the sea foam green romper she was wearing. She had paired the outfit with a broad straw hat, a black ribbon tied around the base. She would ‘ooh’ and ‘aw’ over the cabin’s beautiful dark-wood furnishings. It was terribly cozy and reminded Winnie a lot of the farmhouse back in Ireland. Winnie was quick to dump her belongings at the foot of what she considered the best bed. It was situated just right of the crackling wood stove and had a window which allowed the golden sunrays to stream through the glass and dance atop her bed’s red duvet.

It was then she targeted the delicious cupcakes. She didn’t hesitate to pluck a pink one off of the plate and shove it into her mouth. The action had left icing and crumbs clinging to her chin, which were easily missed when her tongue swept out to lick her lips. It was then that she turned to Professor Jensen and smiled brightly. She knew of Professor Jensen, but she could not recall a time they had interacted. She was the ‘house mother’ of so many Slytherin students that Winnie had become fond of, so of course that meant she had to present herself and make a good impression! "Professor Jensen, I’m so glad they placed me in your cabin! I’ve been wanting to introduce myself properly... I’m Winnie Harper."

At the sight of the half-giant, Winnie spun on her heel, walked over to the bed he had flopped over on, and gave him a wave. He towered over her by around two and a half feet, but size never stopped the redhead from approaching anyone, and he was laying down anyways, so she was staring down at him as she peeked her head between two of the posts of his bed. She offered her new room mate a smile. "Hello, I'm Winnie Harper!"

Hugh's eyes shot open in surprise. That was not Galton's voice at all! Looking over his chest, the part-giant left his left eyebrow arched upwards. Who in the blazes is this little girl? Was his first thought. It had him stuck for a few seconds before he caught up in his own silence. Like thunder rolling off a storm, his voice would rumble inside the room. "Hello there."

There wasn't much to be done, he could hardly ignore the first person that spoke to him. Most either found him too weird or were intimidated. On top of that, he knew what he had signed up for. A month full of interaction and conversations. He just hadn't figured that time would come so soon. Not waiting any longer, however, he made an effort and sat up straight. His dark green eyes staring intently at the girl. Trying to make up his mind about her. The large boy would grumble some more as he crawled back out of the small bed space.

Eventually, Hugh would stand tall in front of the smaller Ravenclaw, his hair nearly stroking against the ceiling. "The name's Lowe." He would introduce with something resembling a smile. "Hugh Lowe." He'd add quickly after scratching his sideburns. "What house are you in?" It seemed like an easy conversation starter. That was what socialites would talk about, he'd guess. "I guess you're excited." The boy remarked, almost letting out a chuckle. Both thumbs were now tucked behind his belt as he leaned back on one leg.

"I'm a Gryffindor myself. This room actually looks a lot like what our dorms look like." Hugh would look around and nod to himself. "So..." Turning back to the girl now. "Do you know what people do for fun around here?"

The first day of Hogwarts summer camp was here. It was only yesterday that Starlee had made a promise to herself this year - to be more brave, to be a better spellcaster, to be more confident - and she had done that in the form of chopping off some of her long blonde hair to give herself sleek bangs. They were a little uneven, seeing as it was a home job, but Starlee was both unaware and unfazed by it, and her newfound confidence could be seen in the way she carried herself. She even tried to upgrade her typical 'cozy-casual' style, opting for cute shorts that weren't leggings or sweatpants and a more form fitting top. Cute strappy sandals instead of her typical white sneakers. Heck, she even threw on a necklace, when she typically never wore much jewelry. And she had to say, she looked good.

She sauntered her way into the Hogwarts campgrounds, her trunk in tow behind her. She had sent her owl off to the owlery, but, knowing Borvo, he was probably making his way back to Edinburgh to stay with her parents and sister - only returning when he absolutely had to. He seemed to like them much better. But it was fine, 'Borvo could do what he wanted,' Starlee thought, trying to push away any hard feelings toward him.

She had scoped out the list of who would be in her cabin, happy to see the names of people she used to call her bullies (now she just described them as 'undesirables') were not on the list. She was ecstatic that a certain Martyna Romero was on it, although she was the 'cool, confident and collected' Starlee now, so she would do her best to excited, but not too excited.

She pushed open the cabin door to find luscious dark wood furnishings, with vibrant red velvet curtains. It felt like quite the opposite of the dank Slytherin dungeons: much more of a luxurious comfort vibe. A few people were in the cabin already. Firstly, her head of house, Professor Jensen was there, and she had made cupcakes. She recalled the professors baking from a Christmas Dorm event last year, so once Starlee settled in, that would be first on her to-do list. A second familiar face was there, the giant boy from the train crash. Starlee had stood there in shock as spells were flung everywhere, but he had stood his ground, quite valiantly so. She still didn't know the boys name, so she would have to introduce herself. And not just to him, but to another girl as well, who had remnants of pink icing around her mouth.

She picked a central bunk, as she figured someone who was confident would want to put themselves out there, not hide in the corners. With her trunk set down, she wandered over to the cupcakes and picked up a green icing, vanilla flavored one. She turned to Professor Jensen, offering a "Thanks for the cupcakes, Professor!" with a smile, before heading over to the pair that were currently chatting.

She arrived just as the boy was introducing himself, which she was happy to catch. "Hope you two don't mind if I join..." she said quickly, almost kicking herself in the process. Someone confident would just join in! She pressed on, "I'm Starlee Kennedy, Slytherin." There was a huge emphasis on the 'I'm', as she was trying to continue her confident vibe. "This is what the Gryffindor dorms look like then? With all the red, I could see that. It definitely fits the theme." She brushed some of the long strands of hair behind her shoulder absentmindedly before continuing. "No idea," she began, answering his question about what people do at camp. "This is my first summer camp, parents wanted to spend more time with me last year." she said, then finally unwrapping and taking a bite out of her cupcake.

───Winnie was delighted when the boy named Hugh Lowe so graciously returned her greeting. She took a step back so she could stare up at the half-giant, her head tilting backwards as an excited smile played on her lips. "It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Hugh Lowe~." His name slipped past her lips with a soft tune. Was she excited? Yes, very obviously so. She was going to make new friends this summer. Perhaps the boy with the cool sideburns could be one of them! It was going to be wonderful and it would help her forget all that silly family drama she had left behind. "I am excited!" She rambled. "This is my first time at summer camp. I could never go camping with other children before! Oh! I’m a proud member of the Ravenclaw house." She announced with a nod of her head. The movement caused pieces of her hip length copper hair to fall in her face, and she raised a hand to tuck the strand back behind her ear.

It was then that a blonde girl joined in on their conversation. "Of course not, nice to meet you, Starlee! I really love that name... How lucky you are to be named after the dazzling night sky!"That’s too much, Winnie, tone it down,’ a little voice in the back of her head would say, although it was almost drowned out by her excitement. Was Winnie starting to understand social cues? Perhaps. To a very... very small extent.

"You’re in Gryffindor? Do you know Ruka? Cosmo? Oooh! Or Levi? Oooor Marshal?" She asked curiously, because surely all Gryffindors knew each other. "Your dorm room sounds very cozy. Ravenclaw is more airy I suppose? We have stars dancing on her ceiling and our own personal library." Winnie would have preferred something as cozy as their current cabin, but she enjoyed the private book selection. "Hmm, I’m unsure... It’s my first summer here as well... I usually pass my time by painting or um... writing poetry... Her cheeks burned a rosy hue at that last statement, but she cleared her throat before continuing, "Perhaps we could all do something together?"

Luka had never attended a summer camp before. Unless you counted his ballet school summer lessons. That had been like more of a boot camp than a summer camp. He was very excited when he found out that his school had been invited to go back to Hogwarts for the month of August. On top of that, instead of arriving by portkey, he got to experience the train ride to Hogwarts. It had been very excitin. He’d truly enjoyed the candy trolleys and talking the ears off the students he’d shared the ride with. Escorted once more to the cabins, this time set to share them with a much wider variety of students, he once again gawked at everything.

The cabin he was led to by Professor Jensen did not look large enough to house all the students who would be staying there yet as he stepped through the doors he would be surprised to see how much bigger it was on the inside. “Oh wow!” He exclaimed as he looked around. “Is so nice!” Then his eyes landed on the cupcakes and went wide in delight. Normally he tried not to eat too many sweets, between his various extra curriculars, he needed to eat a properly healthy diet, but he had a terrible sweet tooth and the brightly frosted cupcakes looked so delicious. This was summer camp… he was allowed to cheat right? One cupcake couldn’t possibly hurt. It would be rude not to try Professor Jensen’s hard work after all. He took a cupcake and bit into it, sighing with pleasure at the taste of the sweet and fluffy cake.

As he licked icing off his fingers, he looked around once more, giving the few members already in the cabin a bright sunshine smile. “Hello! Nice to meet you, new friends. I am Luka Volkov from Koldovstoretz!” He announced to all of them in general since he didn’t recall meeting anyone during his previous visit. “I am looking very forward to getting to know you all. Hogwarts is very interesting school.” He carried his bags to the nearest empty bed then turned his attention to Professor Jensen. “Thank you for the cupcakes, Professor. They are very delicious.”

The situation couldn’t have been more perfect. Not because he had been placed in one of the most spacious cabins. Not because the cabin was decorated oh so familiarly. Not because his good friend had been placed in his cabin. It was perfect because he had been placed in a cabin with a cook for a chaperone.

Galton’s eyes filled with a pure, all consuming glee upon entering the cabin and listening to Professor Jensen’s introduction. His small trunk he’d been dragging would hit the floor with a thunk. His little legs would carry him to the table so he could begin his first summer camp right… eating.

A few nachos would be crammed into his mouth, a bit of liquid cheese spilling out onto his cheek. As he crunched and munched he would nab two of the cupcakes; a brother and sister pair of chocolate and vanilla. Only after he’d had his initial fill would he move to interact with the other students campers.

He recognized some faces. His tall friend was the only one that really stood out to him. Though, with these sweets preoccupying his attention he didn’t have much left to rifle through his mental address book. He’d wait the first round of introductions with a couple large bites into the cupcakes before speaking up.

”I-“ he choked on a bit of cupcake he hadn’t quite swallowed. I’m Galton. He forgot to add his last name. I’m also from Gryffindor, just like the big guy. He’d give a large smile to the group, some chocolate frosting and cheese staining his teeth. These snacks are amazing, right?!

Dealla had spent the train ride uncharacteristically subdued, then hung back for a few seconds after the announcement to tell her friends goodbye, none of which had been assigned to her cabin, before following Professor Jensen and the flock of other students to the Hippogriff Cabin. She was dressed casually, jeans and a soft pink top, hair pulled up into a ponytail, although she had pinned her prefect badge just below the pocket of her jeans shortly before arriving at the Hogsmeade station.

Pausing in the doorway for a moment, Dee took in the first impression of her home for the next month, which was- red. So. Much. Red. Why. With the cabin named "Hippogriff", she'd expected something subtler, airier. Avian and elegant. Was this what the Gryffindor dorms looked like? What a terrible way to live.

However, the sight of the decorated cupcakes on the table had her brightening up immediately. A certified sweet tooth, an easy way to her heart was certainly through her stomach. Dropping off her luggage by a random bed, she picked up a chocolate flavoured cupcake, then looked up at Professor Jensen with a bright smile. "Thank you, Professor!" she chirped, then took a glance around at the cabin's other inhabitants.

Only two faces were more than vaguely familiar to her, so Dee sauntered over to Winnie and the group that was forming in time to hear her rush of questions, cupcake in hand, and reached over to affectionately ruffle the girl's hair. "Are you just asking him if he knows random people? Hi Winnie! Hi everyone!" Galton, the other face she could put a name to so far (although last time she had talked to him said face hadn't been crammed full of snacks), received a wave. He'd earned a place in her memories for the impressive magical feats he had performed during the duel she had moderated in January. Noting down their names, Hugh obviously drew attention by size, and Starlee seemed vaguely familiar. Was she a duellist?

"I'm Dee," she introduced herself, no last name, no House. What's in a name, anyway? "What are we discussing? Summer activities? I heard we're allowed to swim in a part of the lake, and on the 14th we can all watch Slytherin suffer a crushing duelling defeat against the visiting schools." She grinned at Starlee, her eyes teasing, not very serious. After all, she'd mostly gotten over the bitterness at the brutal losses Ravenclaw had taken during the third stage of the duelling championship. Mostly.

Taking a bite of her cupcake, she eyed Luka thoughtfully. Although they had been at the Blossom Ball in May, Dee had never actually talked to anyone from his school, and the only things she associated with it were "Russia" and the odd tidbit that apparently they used whole tree trunks to fly instead of brooms. Which, honestly, sounded absurd enough that it was probably a made up rumour. A mystery to be questioned later.

"One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar."
