Quidditch Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor - Spring 2024

To no one’s surprise, they continued racking up those Quaffle points. So did Gryffindor, but they were still in the lead for now. Watching from her spot on the bench, Renelle could see enemy players dropping like flies, courtesy to their beater. That was reassuring, at least. If the Gryffindor seeker could just stay confused for a little while longer, they might win this from Quaffle points alone.

She could hardly focus on finishing her lap because her eyes kept flickering towards the game. Her heart hammered against her chest as she saw more members of the Gryffindor team falling off their brooms, and realized what the score was. Could it be that their dream of sending Cec off would come true after all? She gripped her broom and veered back towards her team when the lap was over, eager to help.

For now, Ebony left the bludgers alone; she looked up and monitored the skies for falling teammates instead. She was put at ease after observing that everybody seemed to be steadily mounted on their own brooms. She took the chance to regard the excitement occurring above her. Her fellow beater was undoubtedly not taking a break of any kind; he proceeded to knock two lions off their broom, with the ricochet also finding its target. Meanwhile, their quaffle points were continuously rising, along with Ebony's hopes that this was a match they could win.

Two goals was all he managed against the Ravenclaw chasers, and while he scored with aplomb, it was only barely enough to keep Gryffindor in the game. Well, what was left of Gryffindor anyway. The Ravenclaw beaters, one in particular, were having a field day. When finally he came into Jorah's crosshairs, Finnegan tried his best to dodge, but to no avail. The force of the impact sent him hurtling towards the ground and it was only through sheer jaw-clenching grit that he managed to hold on to his broom. There was no way he could hope to make even, the best he could do was buy Elsian more time and try to stay on his broom while he was at it. Ravenclaw presumably had other plans though...

"I hope so!" Quinn said. Quinn looked at the match for a few seconds.
"Is it bad to kinda want one of the chasers to be knocked off their brooms so I can play? I feel kinda bad about it." Quinn said, turning to Ophelia.

Jorah's thirst for destruction was not yet quenched. The game went on despite the fact that most of Gryffindor's players were out of commission. Jorah was running out of targets. One way or another this game would end. Beating a bludger towards the dynamic duo, Haley and Lithaen were knocked off broom. This attack brought Jorah's KDR to 6-0. This had to be some sort of record! The glorious cherry on top was watching Lithaen's broom splinter at bludger impact. A Nimbus 1500, just what I need.

If there was one thing Elsian would take away from this game, it was that the other house's players really were a bunch of cheating harpies! He’d heard once that a group of ravens were called something like an “unkindness”, or something similar. Seemed it was a rather spot on descriptor…

What, were they so desperate for a win they wanted to ruin an already perfectly dangerous match by just cheating the whole time? Were the bludgers not enough?! Bloody hell, as if one person wasn’t enough, he was sure there’d been at least two of the bloodthirsty harpies throwing their pointy elbows like he’d personally jinxed their brooms. Something he had, in fact, not done out of what little sportsmanship he possessed! Now though? Now he wished he HAD done something to their brooms!

So much for a fun match...

“Oh my- c’mon!” He groaned to himself. “How is nobody else catching them?”

It was one thing to not catch the faces of the cheaters when he was busy trying to catch that bloody snitch but really? Nobody else saw? Ugh his head was still swimming from that failed dive; he’d been so close, he knew he’d been close! He might’ve been able to catch it if they hadn’t-

He huffed, anger cooling to annoyance as he re-focused on the game. Honestly, anger was too good for them.

…At least Finnegan seemed to be putting up a good fight.

𝓦ith only four Gryffindors remaining in the sky, two of whom were sharing the same, likely very-overworked, broom, Bex admittedly expected Cecily to take all the quaffle points for the round again. Things did seem to be following that pattern, too, at first; Cecily, with Lavinia assisting, managed to score thirty consecutive points, and all seemed to be going to plan, with the Chaser-Keeper trio appearing to have everything well in hand. Three vs one, with two of those three being upperclassmen, and the lonely, beleaguered one being no more than a second year, was hardly fair, though it was inarguably effective. It came as a shock then, presumably, to all the onlookers though to Bex especially, that Finn managed to score not one, but two successful quaffle throws against three of her teammates. One of whom was Cecily.

She wanted to win, of course, but her loyalty was heavily divided in this match. The pride she felt watching her friend beat the odds and prove himself as a stand-out player on his team was immense, and she bit her tongue to keep herself from letting out a whoop of joy as he scored. Regardless of her dual priorities here, she was still a Ravenclaw, and cheering for the other team would likely make for some rather stilted locker room conversations. Finn's success was exciting, though; for the first time all game, she started to wish the lions had managed to take out one of Ravenclaw's older beaters, so that Bex could be up there in the sky with him.

However, while she was genuinely thrilled for him having managed to score, she'd much rather her eagles win than have him do so again, so she focused her energies on manifesting Finnegan forgetting who he was and what he was doing, and flying off to Norway, or something. She wasn't picky.

No sooner had she thought it, though, then came the crashing reality that she was, in fact, very much picky about how Finnegan Connor was removed from the game. Gryffindor's broom-sharing buddies were easily dispatched by Jorah, the broom they were huddled together on shattered on impact as the girls hurtled bodily towards the pitch below. It hurt Bex's heart to watch; she hoped the broom would be alright. Her own broom, Casper, meeting such a fate was not an event she was confident she'd be able to emotionally handle, so she could only hope that brooms couldn't feel pain, and that the pulverized broom in question was ultimately repairable.

Bex was very good at math, generally, so even she should have caught on earlier that four minus two equaled two. If there were only two opponents remaining in the sky, then that meant that Ravenclaw's beaters only had two prospective targets. A fifty-fifty shot of going for Elsian, or of going for Finnegan. It still shocked her, though, her heart leaping into her throat as she watched Jorah's well-aimed bludger attempt, one of the most powerful and painful on the pitch after Erin Ryan's - may she rest in soon-to-be-graduated peace - slam into Finn with the force of a small bomb. He managed to stay on his broom, but barely. Bex would have been impressed had she not been scared witless.

He was fine. He was fine. This was not like the ball. Quidditch injuries were practically fake injuries, easily healed with nary a thought from the school nurse. He was fine. She wished her mind and her body would hurry up and get on the same page about this fact. She realized, suddenly, that she was standing, and hastily sat back down on the bench. There was no enemy to fight here, no monster cloaked in darkness; just a bunch of kids on brooms.

Magic school was exhausting. Summer could not come soon enough.

Lavinia decided to move away from a cheat move just this once as she worked to help Cecily score some more. The Gryffindors were depleting quickly and this match was starting to look like a blowout to Lavinia. She was thrilled. With it being Cecily’s last match, Lavinia wanted to help her get the glory as much as possible which was done by passing her the quaffle on three separate occasions.
