This duel was in its endgame. That was becoming very evident to Pyxis who threw out his arms for the second time, but it was a much more urgent motion than the first. Why? Two of his duellists had gone down. Zach and Cassian, sensing that EmmaLee was on her last legs, aimed two spells at her. One was a Tickling Charm that she barely took a step to avoid. The tickling sensation constricted her ribs, causing her to break out into laughter just as Zach was. Zach himself sent a jolt of wind her way. The force of the breeze smacked into her and it was enough to take down the second year Hufflepuff.

On the other side of the piste, Emma continued conjuring her wizard crackers. Docking points for creativity. Despite Pyxis’ thought, Emma’s strategy was sound and luck was granted to her. Samantha was the main target of the explosions this time and the crackers snapped and hissed, striking her legs. Cassian and Zach couldn’t sidestep the spell either, and while Cassian was able to recover with some damage to his concentration, the small blasts of the crackers sent the already fragile Zach tumbling to the stage floor.

But the Ravenclaw would go out with a bang. His gust of wind had indeed split in two and the second careened towards Emma. The Hufflepuff had to squint to get a good view of her opponents. EmmaLee got her last laugh too, sending another Tickling Charm towards Samantha. It struck the Ravenclaw on her torso and she too would feel the painful sensation rising to the top of her chest. And despite four spells hitting their mark, Samantha’s own raging Blasting Curse, while successful in its cast, exploded the floor of the stage next to Emma. The Hufflepuff expertly stepped out of the way, but some splinters from the stage floor still latched onto her skin.

“Okay, okay, okay, STOP!” Pyxis instructed. He watched with a wince as Zach and EmmaLee were removed from the stage and then dropped his arms to signal that the duel could continue.

Clenching her teeth with determination, Emma put all her focus on Samantha, hoping to give her some damage, while also taking out at least one of the Ravenclaws out as well. It seemed that Samantha had managed to evade most of the damage, even from the crackers she was sending, so maybe targeting the oldest Ravenclaw directly was the way to go. Thankfully, this time it landed and quite spectacularly if Emma did say so. EmmaLee's tickling charm did as well, which was a blessing, especially when the poor Hufflepuff girl was knocked out by the Ventus charm. That same charm managed to knock the breath out of Emma for a moment and she missed Zach's fall. Bending over and wrapping her arms around herself, she stepped to the side, which apparently was enough to miss the main damage of a spell, though she couldn't tell which one, and only be affected by some splinters from the floor. Which admittedly she would likely go to the Nurse to fix as she was awful at being able to get the awful things out by herself. But that would have to wait as Emma had a strong feeling she may have more concerning things to worry about what with her fellow badgers knocked out.

The round was crazy. Every duelist had successfully cast a spell and the piste was humming with magic. Zach was hit with a Tickling Charm from the blonde Hufflepuff girl and Cassian saw her smirking. So he hit her with the Fire-Making Spell as retribution. She seemed to barely be standing, and so if she found the Tickling Charm so amusing, perhaps it would be even more amusing if that was the spell Cassian used to finally take her out. Once again a perfect cast sent the charm away from his wand and at the girl, who was done for. For good measure, Zach cast a Wind Jinx, knocking her to the floor, no longer laughing. Perhaps that wasn’t amusing enough? Unfortunately, as Cassian turned back to congratulate Zach, he too was unconscious on the piste floor. The end of the duel was approaching. Only one Hufflepuff remained. The Eagles still had two duelists and Sam was one of the best duelists Cassian had met. As tired as he was, he felt a new surge of energy and prepared his next move.

Despite Emma dodging the full blast of the spell, she was still hit by the splinters Samantha's curse created. Zach's spell-casting was amazing, especially considering his horrible state. Managing to hit two people while barely holding on was pretty impressive. Cassian also managed to hit Emma, leading to the girl to go down. A mischievous grin appeared on Samantha's face. The smile didn't last long, as she was hit by, not one, but two spells. Tickling charm and cracker jinx, what a horrible combination.

With only three duellists left on the piste, Pyxis was beginning to feel a bit exposed. The match started off with so many of them rearing to go, but now there were only a few short minutes left on the clock and a lot of empty space between those that were still standing. Being left alone, Emma took a new approach. She ditched her favored Cracker Jinx and turned her wand on herself. Light briefly enveloped her and when it faded, the Hufflepuff looked healthier than before. However, a well-placed Knockback Jinx was sent her way by Samantha. Despite her agility, the dying winds from Samantha’s previous spell caught Emma’s legs and caused her to take the full hit of the jinx. Cassian also aimed at Emma, attempting to send a Rictusempra her way, but he missed his mark by a great distance. At the end of it, the three of them were still upright. Pyxis breathed and glanced over to the clock that was counting down the seconds till the duel’s end.

With only one Hufflepuff left, Sam and Cassian both had cast attacks at the same target. Cassian’s spell missed unfortunately, and while the final Badger had cast a healing spell, Sam’s own classic Knockback Jinx hit her straight in the legs. Cassian knew there were only seconds left on the clock before the end of the duel. He quickly assessed the situation, thinking logically and formed a plan; his next move. It was strange, he thought, how logical thinking came so easily to him on the piste, and yet was so difficult in the classroom. It just didn’t make sense. But Cassian’s final duel of his second year was about to finish and he didn’t want to waste it.

Emma slightly panicked, being the last one left, especially given that she was feeling a bit worse for wear. Deciding she couldn't focus enough to aim a spell at the other side, she instead focused on healing herself. Which helped....for all of two seconds until Samantha's Knockback Jinx hit her full on. A breath huffed out of her, and it took a moment to catch her breath. Leaning over slightly, she took a gasping breath before standing straight and shaking her body out. Enough to hopefully shake the nerves off. After all, the duel couldn't go for much longer could it?

While fighting the annoying effects of the spells, Samantha managed to hit Emma with her flipendo. The fourth year had decided to go for something simpler than confringo. She would never admit how much the Cracker Jinx and Tickling Charms affected her. However, she didn't think she would have been able to cast such a complicated spell as confringo and make it hit Emma. Flipendo was a good choice. It seemed that Emma had realized how bad her situation was, as the girl healed herself.

The endgame was finally here, but it was quieter than Pyxis had anticipated. A few minutes ago, spells were being flung left and right. Not one person took a break to care for themselves. However, after Emma’s new strategy had taken shape, the momentum of the duel slowed as it wound down.

Samantha and Cassian devised something similar to Emma’s last move. The wizard prepared to dodge in case Emma came after him and the witch followed exactly what Emma did, turning her wand towards herself. The older Ravenclaw was surrounded by a brilliant light that rivalled and even surpassed Emma’s own cast. When Pyxis blinked away the stars in his eyes, he caught sight of Samantha who looked like she wouldn’t even need to be checked out in the Hospital Wing after the duel.

In contrast, many things went wrong for the remaining Hufflepuff. Emma aimed at Samantha, but the crackers landed in front of Cassian instead. Pyxis wondered if it was the nerves from the time ticking down or just terrible luck that caused her botched cast. Already on his tiptoes, Cassian wouldn’t even need to make any big sidesteps. The explosions of the crackers missed both him and Samantha. By the time the pops and sizzles faded away, the clock was already making its way into the next hour.

“That’s time!” Pyxis called, spreading his hands so the three duellists stopped casting spells. “Ravenclaw wins. Congratulations!”
