Scooping up some juice that was splattered around the floor, Giselle groaned hastily. It was extremely annoying to have to pick everything up. Wait…how do you do this? Giselle thought, saying the words aloud. She had not, and was never gonna be good at muggle cleaning. Her grandparents had taught her how to mop when she was young, but she really couldn’t get the hang of it. But who can blame her? Wizards and witches weren’t blunt for muggle cleaning.
What the- Giselle muttered. Her lack of knowledge of how to use a mop properly had just made the muck spread around even wider, meaning that it was making it harder to clean up the mess. She quickly tried to put it alright again, some wet tissues that the house-elves had given them to hold some of the food. She then hastily mopped away some jam that was on the floor. It seemed to be better than her usual weak standards at muggle cleaning. Now that some of the food had been mopped away in her side, she moved on to a nearby wall, which was plastered in food.
The wall was particularly difficult to clean, and Giselle’s young self cannot reach really high. Trying her best to scoop out some crumbs off the wall, Giselle had to stand on a chair. She would’ve used the mending charm on the crushed glasses of lemonade, but the fact was that her wand had been confiscated, just like the others. With her standing on tiptoe on one of the chairs, Giselle wiped off some stains, and jumped off the chair almost immediately, mainly because jumping off chairs were fun. Giselle would do about anything to just have more fun in their detention. She then climbed on yet another chair, and jumped down steadily. Ahh, this is much better, she thought. At least she could do that for a moment.
✰ ✰ ✰
A few hours or so, the food that were still messed up had decreased even more. It looked as though the detention would be finished now, Ah, at least I get to rest after such a tiring night, Giselle thought, yawning. She really hoped for the detention to be over soon. However, it never seemed to be, as it looked very much like the food kept refilling itself after every clean. Every now and then, Giselle would take a small look on how the others were doing, and Giselle felt relieved to see that not many others were getting too far. Thankfully it wasn’t just her that was bad at muggle cleaning. Another student in detention, Giselle saw, cannot do muggle cleaning too. Glad that she wasn’t the only one that struggled, she went back to work, but another thought struck her.
Surely this could be done in a couple of hours? Giselle thought. The task that the prefect had set them seemed near impossible to Giselle. Cleaning up all the messed up tables and floors? It seemed as though the prefect obviously thought that it was going to be fun, or at least she had sarcasm in her voice that none of them could sense. But seriously! How in the world were they going to manage it? But then, her mind seemed to have begun to talk to her. Without a start, there will never be a finish. Of course, Giselle thought. She too had thought that that quote sounded logical, but she just couldn’t help getting distracted by some thought or other. Was this ever going to end? I think I’m going to go crazy if this continues, Giselle thought bitterly. Though the thing she longed for most was her wand. Her dear wand. Her… only weapon. Only armour. She felt as though she would do just about anything to get it back… She then drifted into her world of thoughts.

"Nah - I'm ok, I'll be able to dry my clothes once I get my wand back. Well, if this detention ever ends, that is. It'll take us years to clean this hall."
Es turned to the egg-throwing Slytherin.
"I'm alright, thanks."
Estelle grabbed her trusty mop and continued cleaning the hall. She had given up using the water from the bucket and was instead just soaking up the spilt water from where she fell. She might as well clean up the spillage, seeing as she was cleaning the rest of the hall.
Es watched a Hufflepuff climb on a chair to reach a patch of high crumbs. She wished she could help, but there wasn't much anyone could do without a wand. Or, alternately, a ladder. Still, she'd need a wand to summon one.
Estelle hadn't realised how much she'd begun to rely on her magic. It was scary to think that if someone stole her wand she'd basically be powerless. She'd done some basic self-defence classes in the past, but she didn't know as much as she would like. Maybe she'd sign up for some classes this summer.

Ehsilat was quite literally bored out of her mind. She never liked cleaning, not that she ever really did it but now she knows she definitely hates it.
Ehsi finished cleaning the Slytherin table and went on to mopping the floors, at least - she attempted to mop the floors.
Ehsi stared quizzically at the mop as if it was the weirdest thing on the planet. She really didn't know how to do this cleaning thing. Ehsi looked around to see if anyone could give her an idea on what to do. It was a futile mission, considering the fact that some people were spreading the mess instead of cleaning it.
Ehsi sighed, 'I really want my wand back....'
Ehsilat dabbed the mop into some spilled juice as she watched, fascinated, as the mop soaked up the sticky liquid. 'Wow...' She continued to dab the mop in the liquid that was spilled on the floor until the mop became soaking wet. Ehsilat not knowing what to do with a now soaking mop placed it down and went to receive another one. She didn't know what was so interesting about watching a mop soak up some liquid but she stared, enthralled at the process of mopping. Ehsi still wants her wand back but she could deal without it for now, as long as the mop keeps her entertained.

· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko thought she was a decent person. Sure, no one was fully good or fully bad, but she tried to be decent. She tried to be compassionate.
The more she sat, the more she watched… the worse she felt.
It started as a sinking feeling in her stomach when one of the kids didn’t even seem to know how to clean the Muggle way. Was it wrong that there was a twinge of jealousy pinging at her heartstrings? It seemed the kid’s parents had never made them actually follow the law and do chores without magic before — it was really quite unfair.
Koko set her jaw but otherwise kept her small smile on her lips. Her amber gaze hardened as she glanced about.
She at least respected the wands the students had given to her. She idly kept an eye on them, drumming her fingers on the table as she stared unblinkingly in… boredom. Bloody boredom. Merlin, she hated detentions, and this was her fault anyway. Some prefects enjoyed seeing other students suffer, but the sight didn’t bring a smile to Koko’s lips or a glitter of mischief to her eyes.
She sighed to herself quietly and gazed around the mostly-empty room once again. Her gaze caught on one of the girls, who was now — What!? Koko frowned. Since when had the girl gotten soaked? She instinctively reached for her wand, thinking the Hot-Air Charm would help, but she worried the girl wouldn’t want her help as the whole incident was indirectly Koko’s fault.
She’d hated prefects — well, more likely had been scared of them, but that wasn’t important — when she was their age. And now here she was, being exactly the type of person she’d never wanted to be.
But it was for their own good, she would tell herself later. Rules were in place for a reason. They had to be followed, or else people would get hurt.
But it was just a bit of good-natured fun. Even if it had ruined her breakfast, it had just been a food fight. There was always more French toast anyway.
The kids seemed to think this was awful. Koko noticed a bit of grumbling, and really, she didn’t blame any of them.
'Why do we have to do this!? And why can’t we even use magic? We’re witches/wizards not muggles!'
Koko glanced at the girl who had exclaimed, and slowly, she stood. 'I mean, it could have been worse. I knew someone who had to clean out Hospital Wing bedpans for a detention. It was gross. Like, really gross.’ Koko frowned slightly at the memory. She’d watched it from afar on account of disliking Mari, but in hindsight, maybe watching someone’s suffering hadn’t been the kindest. 'As for why no magic… I could just say because you’re underage? Legally you wouldn’t be able to do chores with magic at home, what with the Trace and all. But also because not everyone has magic, so it helps us build compassion.'
…Yeah, it really did sound like a load of malarkey, but she’d meant it when she’d said it. But another answer — one she wasn’t about to say aloud — was that it was just how detentions were done. You didn’t deviate from tradition like that, not on a whim. And issuing this detention had definitely been on a whim.
The children cleaned more, and after a while, the sight of watching their attempts was actually a bit pitiful. Or maybe Koko just regretted this entire endeavour. Whatever the matter, she sighed to herself before picking up the group’s wands.
'Unless you’d really like to keep cleaning, I think you’ve all learned your lesson. I’ve got your wands over here if you’d like to grab them.'
To @Estelle Nyx she would make an offer: 'If you’d like, I can help you dry off using the Hot-Air Charm — are you alright? If you’d prefer to do it yourself, that’s okay too, I just wanted to give you the option.'
Their wands would be on the table for them to grab. All the rest of the cleaning, Koko would either do herself or ask the House-Elves for help with.· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·
