The girl on the broom takes off and fishes the runaway school broom out of the tree. She does almost fall off in her broom in the process, but Cass resists the temptation to laugh. Flippendo-casting-rescuer-girl is only trying to help after all. She lands with the broom and they run over, grabbing the broom and quickly looking over it for damage.
It's understandably a bit scratched up, but beyond that it seems to have survived intact. Phew, they aren't losing their school broom privileges today. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, as they are perfectly capable of sneaking into the broom shed to steal one, but its sometimes nicer to not have to resort to thievery. Other times it's more exciting to do the opposite though.
They grin at the other girl "Thanks for getting the broom down". It's certainly an entertaining tale as to how they got in the hoop, but may not cast Cass as quite the forward thinker. Oh well, she probably deserves to hear it (though of course the slightly edited version) for fishing the broom down from the tree. "Okay so" they say "We set the scene at the training pitch..". They go on to describe their "daring exploits" and how it "almost worked".

❂《 ⌜ April 14, 2024 ▎ --:-- ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Intriguing was the first thing to come into her mind as she stood there, listening to how this student before her had ended up stuck in that hoop. This questionable strategy of theirs sure sounds like it had potential to be a real deal but she can bet it’ll just count as a foul. She’s no Quidditch expert, she only played once and she didn’t even get the chance to join in on the Quaffle Grabs as she was too busy looking for the snitch and trying not to die. It went well, surprisingly enough. Sure she got some broken bones after getting bludgered and then getting blatched but she caught the snitch AND one of her teammates caught her, saving her from more broken bones.
A smile crept on her face as she continued to listen, finding this strategy amusing at least. “Well, it’s a brilliant plan but I don’t think the referee will be that fond of it.” she told them. “It should give you a ton of points though before getting caught and sent to a penalty lap.” As much as she hated cheating in games, she was kind of used to it, especially after that Quidditch match as cheating just… kind of became a part of the game, especially when it’s necessary to win the game.
Not like she had done any form of cheating though. It’s not her style but that doesn’t mean she can’t if people want her to. A not-so-Gryffindor like trait right there. “Are you a Quidditch player?” she asked Cass as they seem to talk like they know a lot about Quidditch and maybe… some strategies considering what they just came up with.

They hadn't considered that it might have been a foul. The train of thought that they had been going with was that the referee simply wouldn't be prepared for their level of stupidity brilliance. It's very possible that it could have been attempted before though- it was Hogwarts after all. Famed for its great magic-school-ness, but also legendary for the trouble its students managed to cause. Perhaps they should consult the rulebook. Or bug a quidditch captain into telling them so they didn't have to do any reading.
On the plus side, at least flippendo-girl thought their story was funny. Perhaps it wasn't quite the appropriate face for one in awe of Cass's exploits, but it would do. And a ton of points sounded good to them. How could it not? Points were what won games, and winning games was the entire point. They weren't as focused on victory-or-nothing as some people where, but they figured you should at least be improving game by game. There was no point if you didn't let your losses teach you just as much as your wins. As for quidditch, they still weren't quite sure which sport they wanted to play. They all sounded so cool, so they had signed up for them all.
"Not yet!" they replied "But maybe soon. I couldn't decide which sport I wanted to play so I signed up for them all". They bounced from one foot to another, happy to have the runaway school broom back in their hand. Their flight practice wouldn't be cut short so soon after all. "What about you?" it was only polite to ask her back after all. And they couldn't deny that they were curious what she had been out here practising for. Maybe she could tell them more about whatever sport she played.

❂《 ⌜ April 14, 2024 ▎ --:-- ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Cass’ enthusiasm kind of reminds her how excited she was in joining duelling. She went around, trying out the sports even before she could be a part of Gryffindor’s Duelling Team. Unlike Cass though, she didn’t go around signing up for every sport for she already knows where her heart is… or was. “Not really in any sports right now.” she told them as she looked at the broom that she’s been holding. Right, she’s sportsless at the moment after dropping out of duelling, the sport that she had been longing for before.
“Well… used to be in a duelling team but… things happened.” she’d rather not talk about her failures, those awful performances. They are nothing but bad memories and a constant reminder that she’s just bad at it. “Currently signed up for Broom Racing though but probably won’t be in the team for quite a while. Can’t help but practice for it though.”
That is one of the reasons why she is coming here, to get better with her flying skills. They are not bad but she can’t say she’s good at it. Perhaps just somewhere in the middle, average. “Hope you get into a sports team soon. I say they are fun.” she had tried every sport and well… Only her experience in Quidditch was great. She got knocked unconscious on her second broom race and she almost lost all of her duels. Sometimes, it makes her wonder why she even tries to get into them when she’s just a burden to her team.

Bouncing in place from one foot to another, they considered her words. The girl definitely didn't want to talk about dueling. Or at least not to some random kid she had just met. They may get taken for dumb with all the stupid things they did, but they weren't blind. They knew how to read the room, or the pitch in this case. Call it an Ito family trait. Broom racing though, seemed like a safe enough subject. And an interesting one, considering they knew very little about it.
"Have you raced before then?" they asked the girl. Unofficial races were common enough around Hogwarts. They weren't particularly knowledgeable about broom racing, aside from the fact that it was a race. It was all the funny extra rule bits that eluded their grasp. Why only allow some spells and not others? The hospital wing was there for a purpose after all. Either way, they could understand coming out there to practice. Though they may not even end up doing a sport on a broom that didn't change their love of the wind in their hair and the sky feeling just within reach.
It was nice of her to wish them luck with getting in a team though. Places on sports teams opened up as others quit or left the school, and so close to graduation they were hoping that SOME sport would be wanting new members. They didn't have a preference for which one, since all of them sounded amazing. Hopefully they wouldn't be too much of a burden on whatever team they joined though, being a first year and all.

❂《 ⌜ April 14, 2024 ▎ --:-- ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔“I have. Twice… unofficially of course.” Raizel briefly paused. “My first race though was kind of blurry, I can't remember what happened during that time.” She wasn’t lying. She could barely remember who she raced against during that time and even her teammates. Her memory was foggy but perhaps that is because her first race was when she was still a first year. She doesn’t even know if she crossed that finish line in that race.
“The second one was fun… until I fell unconscious.” she winced, remembering how that one hurt a lot. She was bruised badly, bleeding and to make it worse, she didn’t get to cross the finish line. She was in the lead but she took too many hits, made too many mistakes. “It was quite an experience though.” Despite the pain from that memory, the girl still tried to smile when it did hurt her pride… like a lot. She thought she could finally win, something that she yearns for ever since her duels kept ending with loses.
“I also hosted a race before, for my friends to have fun with. Managed to get some experts in that race too.” Now that one had left a mark. It was one of the best she had ever seen. Xailah, Aurora, Colin, those three are part of the official broom racing teams of their respective houses and it was an honor to have them during that race. “Say… perhaps if you want to try it out… I could potentially set up something.” she suggested to Cass.

Well. Like all sports at Hogwarts, it sounded like broom racing contained more than its fair share of injuries. To them, the risk just made it all the more exciting but they could understand why some might be put off by it. They had obtained their own collection of epic broom falls themself, and after today they supposed it was up by one. It was lucky that Raizel had been so close by actually. They could have been stuck there all night without her help.
"Im sure you'll get better with the more races you do" they replied. Practice was good, but experience couldn't be beaten. The ability to keep a cool head under pressure was also invaluable. And unfortunately not one that Cass possessed. Pressure just made them all the more reckless, since a stupid risk was either a truly epic feat or a truly epic fail. Both were impressive.
As for an unofficial broom race though? Now that sounded fun. They drummed their fingers against their broom, excited by the thought. Though they may be outmatched by pretty much default, being a first year with very little experience (and no idea of the rules) that was not going to stop them. There were very few things that stopped them once they had an idea in their head actually. "That would be amazing" they grinned "If you can of course".

❂《 ⌜ April 14, 2024 ▎ --:-- ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔“I sure hope so. I am getting the hang of flying.” Truth be told, Raizel didn’t like flying at first. Of all her subjects, flying was her least favorite. She refuses to use a broom unless it was for flying, knowing full well that her skills aren’t great when it comes to it. Heck, she even crashed into an upperclassman when she tried riding her very first broom and that sure hurt… like a lot. She was lucky that she and Elsian didn't break any bones during that crash and no major injuries either. Just a concussion. “Haven’t joined any unofficial races lately but I sure would love to try it again… in preparation in case I make it to the team.”
Hopefully, she won’t fall unconscious by then. Eyes then fall on Cass, a grin appearing on her face as they agreed to try participating in an unofficial race. She likes people like them, those who are up for the challenge despite how hard it might be or how inexperienced they are. No pain no gain, right? “I like your spirit.” She told them honestly. “Alright, it’s a deal.” She’s curious about what they could do. “If you find interesting people who would like to join, ask them. Try not to challenge older students though but then again, that’d be quite a nice challenge. Maybe try to collect more spells as well. Broom Racing is a lot better when you’re throwing spells at each other.” That’s just her preference as someone who loves spellcasting and as a former duellist. Spells are nice to spice things up.

They grinned. This was going to be amazing, even if it took them a while to get the challengers together. Oh well, that time could be used for practising a few more spells to give them an edge. As for trying not to challenge older students, they made no promises. A challenge was meant to be a challenge after all. "Im sure you will make the team soon enough" they smiled at the other student "Even I can see that you've been practising hard and I spent half of the time stuck in a quidditch hoop".
Racing was indeed better when throwing spells at each other, that they could agree with. In fact, maybe they should go practise spells right now! Or send another owl to their Pa begging for broom privileges back. He would have to agree if it was for a race. Or round up some challengers and start flying more to get ready. They bounced from one foot to another, unable to stay still. They didn't want to leave abruptly, but they couldn't just stand in place when there was so much to be done. Hopefully the girl wouldn't think that they were being rude. They never intended to be, but sometimes they just physically couldn't not run off and do something. Otherwise they would explode.
"Im going to go look for people now I think" they yelled back as they quite literally ran away. They hopped back on their broom almost as an afterthought, and took off back towards the broom sheds outside flying class. Once they returned this then they could start upon their grand race winning mission. They were totally going to win this. Or at least put on a good showing for a first year.
