After-Dinner Discipline
This thread is a detention thread private to @Cass Ito & @Scout Fu-Hai & @Estelle Nyx & @Ehsilat Wilst & @Ruby Night & @Giselle Lam
Date: Sunday, 2 June 2024
Time: After dinner, after everyone else has left and the House-Elves have collected dishes.
Location: Great Hall
· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·Koko had not planned on spending her Sunday evening overseeing a detention, but it seemed that was what the fates had in store for her.
She ate dinner swiftly, not even eating much. In all honesty, she wasn't sure what to expect. The last student she had given detention had sworn at her in a way she hadn't known first and second years were able to swearing. She really hoped these students were at least a bit kinder.
Students began to leave as they ate their fill, but Koko remained seated. She wore a lightweight rose-coloured sweater and a pleated black skirt for the occasion, and she had very narrowly avoided wearing fingerless gloves. With the task at hand, though, she worried that she might regret it. She might very well want gloves come the detention.
She might have winked at a few students before telling them to be extra messy as they ate. She might have 'accidentally' dropped a few pieces of food ─ yes, she was a hypocrite, and what of it? ─ for the main event that would soon arrive. And then she sat. She was bored, yes, but she would wear a delighted, slightly-condescending smirk, and she would fold her hands primly in front of her, the picture of a child professing their innocence.
Because she hadn't done anything wrong!
Once almost everyone had left, she would find the detention-afflicted students. She recognised a few of them from seeing them around in the halls, but she wouldn't have known any of their names if the food fight yesterday hadn't happened. As it was, she now had a roster of the six students' names.
Reading off of the list, she would begin: 'Cass Ito... Estelle Nyx... Ehsilat Wilst... Scout Fu-Hai... Ruby Night... Giselle Lam...' As she read, her gaze darted between the students. Her voice was much quieter now than it had been the day before ─ the lack of an Amplifying Charm would do that.
She paused, at first appearing like a sombre authority figure, but then she smiled a cold yet mirthful smile that was very unlike her usual warm and kind resting expression.
'Welcome to the consequences of your actions,' the Slytherin prefect said drily. She turned slightly and extender her arm to 'showcase' the Great Hall's messy floor and tables. 'Now, I'm sure this isn't nearly as terrible as the mess after breakfast yesterday. But perhaps this will teach you a lesson.' Or perhaps not. You could lead a horse to water, but you couldn't make it drink.
'I'll collect wands in a moment. They'll be perfectly safe, just inaccessible. That's because your detention is cleaning!' Somehow, she had managed to infuse her words with both enthusiasm and sarcasm. That was a first. 'Without magic. We couldn't have you breaking any more rules, no, that would be a shame.'
Her expression would soften slightly after that. 'But feel free to talk among yourselves. And if you need anything, or have any questions, feel free to ask. Yes, this is punishment, but I don't want it to be completely miserable.' She did generally dislike giving detentions. This was only happening because it had affected her. She wondered momentarily if she would have even noticed there was a food fight occurring if the fateful egg had not landed in her food...
Merlin, if she were younger, she would have found that food fight hilarious. Alas, with great age came great responsibility ─ something these kids would probably learn someday.
She glanced back at the tables to affirm that the House-Elves had cleared them of dishes. 'You're only cleaning off the table surfaces and mopping or sweeping the floor. Supplies are over there ─' She gestured towards one of the walls. A few brooms and dustpans were over there alongside rubbish bins, mops, rags and buckets of soapy water. '─ and you can use any of them, and if you need anything else, please let me know.'
'Okay, well, time to hand over the wands.' If they didn't, she could just use the summoning charm, but there was something to be said for giving them a choice. 'Any questions?'· · ─────── · 𖢨 · ─────── · ·

Okay, the answer to "whats the worst that could happen?" had been found. The prefect girl telling them off had been far from scary, but taking away their wands for this task? They may not know a spell for cleaning dishes anyway, but this was ridiculous! They were wizards not.. not muggles! And this way prevented them from cheating. Which might have been the more important cause to get angry about.
Not to mention they weren't quite sure how to use the strange instruments she had pointed at. Being from a wealthy Pureblood family, their brooms where enchanted to sweep on their own and their floors cleaned with magic. Perhaps you sort of.. stabbed the tables with the long pointy things? And the cloths where for wiping, that much was obvious. But the whole table? There were six of them in a hall made to sit the entire school. A feat that would be easy enough if you knew the right spells, but without wands it was going to be ah.. interesting.
Still, they had overcome greater challenges before. This was nothing compared to many stranger and more creative punishments, muggles managed to do it every day. How hard could it be? They just needed to copy the others and not look like they had no idea what they were doing. Wandering over to the supplies, they dipped a cloth in soapy water and tentatively stood there, waiting for someone else to make the first move.

All for a harmless couple of pancakes and eggs and lemonade glasses being thrown, where was this prefect's sense of humor? Is that what happens when you get old- you just turn into a total bore? This was just like being back at home, but at least she didn't have her dad nagging in her ear telling her that it was the 'consequences of her actions'.
In fact, Scout had no intentions on telling either of her parents what had happened. As far as she was aware, it wasn't like the headmaster would send an owl to home to tell her parents of what she did so... as long as Scout didn't spill the beans, she'd be free from being grounded for a millennia. Or more, she might even lose her outdoor privileges, and then where would she be?
Cleaning was not the worst punishment, and since it was something Scout was more than used to, she figured it'd be a quick hour or two of scrubbing and then it'd be over with. Even more-so because there were quite a few people serving with her. She actually didn't know any of them, well, beyond the 'seeing them in classes' and 'shared glances in the hallways'. Actually... was detention the kind of place you'd learn people's names and stuff? Probably not.
The cleaning materials that were laid out were ones Scout was all-too familiar with. She had decided to land on mopping, considering it was probably the more fun chore out of all of the cleaning-related ones. She liked mops. They were nice.
"Hey... you do know what you're doing, don't you?" She called out to the Slytherin, who was kind of meandering and standing by the table, a soapy cloth in hand. Scout dipped her mop in the soap and began mopping over by the Gryffindor table. A good start- hey, didn't she sit on that side of the bench last night? "Just... like... scrub. It's not hard." Er, at least she hoped. She personally didn't know anyone who would find the task of 'scrubbing a table' hard.

On Sunday Ruby went to the Great Hall for dinner, not knowing what to expect. She wasa little bit nervous, this being her first detention. But she was determined not to let anyone notice this. She wore her Hogwarts robes, feeling it suited the detention.
At dinner she made sure she had enough food on her plate, sensing it was a good thing to have a full stomach before the detention. She didin´t know how long it was going to take or what she had to do. She was still in a good mood from the fight yesterday, as she really needed to let go. But the feeling started to drop as dinner came to a close.
When the other students had left the Great Hall, she lade her way over to the Slytherin table, where the Prefect was waiting for them. Ruby wondered what she could have thought out for them. Behind the Prefect she saw the cleaning equipement. Oh, cleaning by hand, she thought, as the Prefect was giving her speech. That shouldn´t be too bad. Coming from a mixed family, Ruby was familiar with the Muggle cleaning method. But still, she wasn´t happy to turn in her wand. It felt strange to be missing it.
She saw a Slytherin boy standing there with a cloth in his hands, waiting. Another girl took a mop and showed him what to do.
I´ll start cleaning the tables, Ruby said to them. She took a bucket and a cloth and headed for the Teacher´s table. She soaked the cloth in the bucket and started rubbing the table.

@Koko Riddle, @Ruby NightEstelle sighed, ready to face the consequences for yesterday morning's fun. It truly had been an epic food fight, and she had no regrets joining in, even though she'd accidentally egged a prefect.
Anyway, who said detention couldn't be fun? Es loved a good mop. She grabbed one , twirling it around like it was some medieval sword rather than a cleaning instrument. Estelle watched a girl call out to a Slytherin who seemed either lost in thought or unsure of how to clean tables. Estelle assumed they were a pureblood, or at least rich.
Now she thought of it, she vaguely recognised them. She couldn't be sure, but she guessed that they had been the one to chuck the opening egg at her.
Estelle turned away again, busying herself in her mopping. She swept the mop up and down the dirty floor, wiping up the encrusted remains of that night's dinner. It was a little boring, but all in all well worth the fun she'd had.
Es kept mopping, lost in thought, not looking where she was going. She stepped over a freshly mopped bit of stone and her clumsiness got the better of her, causing her feet to slip on the wet floor beneath her. She landed, quite spectacularly dramatically, in the bucket of water she'd been carrying around. Her uniform was soaked.♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Listening to the prefect’s words, Giselle thought for a moment. She was not a keen fan, of course, of detention, but she did not know that she would have to clean up all the thrown food that was scattered along the many house tables, with some crushed jars of jam, some juicy fruit, and the drinks were spilled everywhere. How are we supposed to clean this up? And without wands? Cleaning up the gigantic mess with wands was bad enough, why did they have to muggle clean this place? Ah, at least five others are here to do something too,Giselle thought. If not, well… She didn’t know if she could bear it. Her last detention, had been bad enough, but how on earth were they going to reach the jam that was scattered even on the ceiling? Giselle thought that it wasn’t fair.
She, as a half blood, had known only little about muggles. How was she, a witch that had only barely knew how to muggle-clean up mess, supposed to do such hard work in the muggle way! Without wands! Giselle thought scornfully. How did that prefect there thought that could manage this? Giselle thought desperately, looking hopefully at the door that led from the Entrance Hall to the Great Hall, as though she was looking for a another staff or professor that said that they did not have to clean up this mess. But no one came. It was just the six of them that were suffering from the wrath of that wretched detention, and the prefect that had assigned this to them. Finally accepting the fact that they would have to complete this punishment, Giselle grabbed two jars of jam and stuffed them in place, which were almost rolling onto the stone hard floor.
This is taking for ever, sighed Giselle as she took a small cloth from behind a chair. The carpeted floor, which used to look magnificent with the magical ceiling shining above, was now in ruins. Not just one or two dropped potato peels, but a whole bunch of strawberries now littering the floor, as far as Giselle could see. Though that was probably only a teeny tiny part of it, it was hard to carry because of the soaking juice. Damn it, Giselle muttered as she scooped up a sticky pile of half melted pieces of chocolate. I wouldn’t be surprised if this takes the rest of the year, thought Giselle.

This might actually be the worst day ever. Her wand was taken away and she has detention! With a really scary prefect no less. Ehsilat had one mind to cry and beg for forgiveness, but decided not to, so that she could keep her pride intact.
Ehsilat grabbed a washing cloth and dipped it into a bucket of soapy water. She'd seen the house elves at home do this enough times to at least have an idea on how to clean without magic or to clean at all.
She looked around the room at all the mess they had to get rid of... 'It could be worse??' she thought. A small sigh escaped her lips as she began scrubbing the Slytherin table in small circular motions 'This is going to take forever...'
The longer Ehsi cleaned, the angrier and more annoyed she became. She was a witch! Not some muggle or house elf, why did she have to be the one to clean anyway? It wasn't as though she was the one that started the fight!
The frustration oozed out of her and she took a seat at the Slytherin table and groaned dramatically "Why do we have to do this!? And why can't we even use magic? We're witches/wizards not muggles!" Ehsilat looked at the prefect with an annoyed yet equally frustrated glare on her face, her father would kill her if he ever found out about this. She was angry, panicked and was genuinely on the verge of bursting into tears. This was honestly the worst day ever.

"Of course I know what I'm doing" they grin, trying to make it look like they actually do. How hard could it be? They gripped the soapy cloth in their hand and attempted to act confidently, making small circles on the table with it. You just sort of... wiped away the dirty bits. With water. And soapy stuff. What was wrong with wands? Did muggles actually do this every day? How did they survive?
The griffindor girl who had thrown the pancakes was twirling a mop around like a sword. Perhaps it was a weapon after all. That would make sense, seeing as it was sort of vaguely lance-like. The floppy bit on the end didn't look like it was going any damage anytime soon though. Oh wait, the pancake-thrower had fallen over into a bucket of water. Hah. Embarrassing for her, but she didn't look injured. Cass was certainly not above laughing at her though. "You okay?" They called out. Pancake-throwing-girl really was soaked. Hopefully the prefect wasn't to angry at the group of (former) food-fighters collective lack of ability to clean tables without incident.
The other Slytherin girl looked increasingly angry with each piece of dirty food cleaned off the tables, and the hufflepuffs looked pissed as well. Well, at least one of them did. The other looked kind of sad about the temporary loss of her wand. That Cass could understand- over the year they had become used to their wands steady weight in their pocket and it was unsettling to say the least to not have it with them.

Scout called back to the other Slytherin, who was very short. Like... like really short. That's such a weird thing to think about, Scout, focus on the task at hand! "I mean like... there's six of us aren't there? It shouldn't take that long to finish." Well, yeah, it shouldn't. But one of the girls had fallen into a bucket of water, one of the Slytherin's looked like they hadn't spent a single day with a rag before, and the other Slytherin was complaining.
This would be easier if the prefect just let Scout zone out and have the Great Hall to herself, she thinks.
Oh, right, that girl literally fell in one of the buckets. Scout left her mop leaning against the Gryffindor table and walked over to the soaking wet girl. "Here," she leaned down and held out her hand, "is it just your robes that are wet? Do you need to change? I wish I knew a drying spell..." Well, even if Scout did know a drying spell, it wouldn't be much help without a wand... which was currently confiscated by the prefect. If only she were older and knew how to cast magic without a wand, the way her parents did. That'd be pretty cool.
Right, water-girl. Probably needed a jacket or something, water made you cold. Er... did Scout keep a jacket in her bag? "I think I have a coat in my satchel if you need it, but it's not really cold in here..." Can wizards and witches even get colds? There was a spell that could force you to have one but that probably wasn't the same, was it?

━━━━ ⋆ ‧ ❀ ‧ ⋆ ━━━━This isn’t fun, Ruby thought, as she finally got to the end of the Teacher’s table. She looked at the other students. Everybody was trying to get the Hall clean, some more enthusiastic than others. Some seemed really pissed.
She watched the Gryffindor girl twirl her mop around like a sword. Ruby felt a bit intimidated at how confident the girl looked. But suddenly she saw the girl slip on a wet spot on the floor and land in her bucket. Ruby froze and debated what she would do. But the other Gryffindor girl got to her and helped her to her feet. Luckily she seemed fine.
Ruby sighed and took her bucket and cloth to another table. She started to hum a little song, maybe it would help to make time go faster. And if it didn’t, it would make it easier. Ruby loved music, and she always found that difficult tasks would go much smoother if she could listen to some music.
As soon as the second table was clean, she looked round the Hall again. Her eyes lingered on the Slytherin table. She had sat there the whole time, hands folded before her and a small grin on her face. I can’t belief she enjoys seeing us work like this. She should have joined us yesterday, that was a lot more fun than watching a handful of students clean a Hall. I would know what I would choose if I were her. And with that thought, Ruby took a new cloth and headed for the next table.
