Quidditch Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor - Spring 2024

Surprisingly, the first round had turned out all right. Their beater was on fire, and the wonderfully wonderful Chaser and captain, Cecily, had really come through. She’d scored fifty points, one after the other! Renelle grinned from her spot on the bench. What a sight to behold. Gryffindors were such losers!

Looking up at the Gyffindor team. Odi bit his lip with excitement at the sight of the carnage that was unfolding overhead. The last quidditch game hadn’t seen nearly as much action as just the first few moments of this one.

A voice cut through Odi’a concentration beside him. "How long have you been on the team?" Odi whipped his head round to see Evelyn Depecio, a fifth year he’d had scarcely little interaction with until now. His confidence faltered for a moment as he tried to split his concentration between her words and the game. “Uh… Not long I guess- OOH!” A groan of discontent escaped Odi’s lips as one of the Ravenclaw captain sent the quaffle wooshing through the Gryffindor post, earning them fifty points. He turned his attention to Evelyn. “I was on the team last year but I took a hiatus for a while.” He looked back up at the game before adding quietly. “Long story.” In order to avoid any uncomfortable questions.

There was a huge swell of noise from the crowd, and it didn’t take long to see why. Odi’s eyes widened at the sight of Pax, their team captain and one of their team’s two beaters, hurtling to the ground. “Hm.” Came Evelyn’s voice again from beside him. “I hope you are ready to avenge them.” She said pointedly.

Odi shot her a cocky grin. “Looks like we’re about to find out.” He shrugged as he grabbed his bat. "Don't wait up." He kicked his leg over his broom with a flourish and soared upwards, the cool air greeting his skin like an old friend. This would mark the first official match he had actively participated in. Instantly his mind raced into action as he scanned the field, his gaze passing over each player whilst trying to keep an eye on the bludger.

Reducio

Broom: Nimbus 1500
Broom effect: In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).

Effect:
Each round there is a 10% chance that an opponent in a duel or a moderated situation will decide to ally with the Part-Veela even against their own allies and attempt to protect them.
Broken Broomshaft
Effect: In Quidditch, on a full hit with a bludger, if the user is knocked off their broom there is a 25% chance that the broom is shattered as well. If the broom is shattered, the opponent will not be able to use the broom for the duration of the match (they do not loose their broom permanently, they would repair it off-screen later). If they are caught by an ally, they would have no broom to return to and would have to ride with an ally or remain on the ground for the duration of the game.

Beads of sweat rolled down Ebony's forehead as she concentrated, observing the pitch that had sprung into action. The back of her robe already felt damp; it didn't help that the sun was sending out wave after wave of golden heat, and that her heart was frantically skipping beats.

She spotted the bludgers almost immediately, the heavy metal balls that she both loved and despised as a beater. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw one of them hurtling towards Aly, their curly haired seeker whom Ebony was not unfamiliar with. Hoping to fulfil her role as a beater, she came between the ball and the girl to send the bludger back where it came from. She brought her bat backward, grinning satisfactorily at the crunch as bat and ball met. Her satisfaction was erased however, when her target wasn't hit. She had no time to grump around about this failure; another bludger swept towards her. She raised her bat again, but she was too late; the bludger collided into her side, resulting in her losing her balance. Ebony could only mutter a couple of swears as she tightened her grip on her broom.

Being hit somehow sent Ebony reeling back into reality, and she grinned when she realised they had scored 50 points. Brushing away the strands of dark hair that had gone astray, she narrowed her eyes in concentration.

Watching the game from the bench was a totally diferent thing. Sitting there, in her Quidditch outfit, Lithaen was still quite nervous. This was, after all, her first game, even though she was still sitting on the bench. She stared at her team mates and she stared at the Ravenclaw Quidditch players too. She didn't want to miss a single thing!

Therefore Lithaen didn't noticed at first someone was talking to her. "Hm?" she said, staring at the quaffle. "Oh, sorry. I'm new to the team. I'm a few weeks in, maybe?" She shrugged. "My name is Lithaen. Lithaen Galathynius. First year." She smiled. The girl talking to her seemed nice enough, but also a few years older than Lithaen.

She smiled and concentrated on the game again.

Winnie wasn’t the type of girl who was prone to violence, it’s just that violence had a way of finding her. If someone deserved it, why couldn’t she try to defend herself?

Honestly she hadn’t been hurt that bad. Maybe a bruise or two, but the anger towards Ethan was already brewing. “Is that the best you got?” She taunted the Gryffindor.

Unfortunately, Winnie was never known for being subtle. Her foul was quickly noticed and she was off to do another plenty lap. Oh well, at least Finnegan had gotten caught too. “Race you, Conner.” She called out to him from her broom as she headed off to finish her lap.

Once the whistle blew to start the game, Lavinia quickly sped over to the Gryffindor seeker and enacted a cob. The goal was to weaken the seeker’s abilities so Aly would be able to swoop in and win quicker. It was a simple move and went perfectly to plan, the move not only succeeded, but Lavinia was not caught in the act. Another cheat move went unnoticed and Lavinia flew forward with a smilie on her face.

There was always a special brand of chaos when the game first started. Between bloodthirsty bludgers to avoid, points to score, and as Elsian was loath to find out so quickly into the game, very bold cheaters, there was plenty to worry about.


Broom zipping through the air and eyes to the sky he’d hardly had a minute to search for the snitch before he was flinching back on his broom with a grunt of pain as someone's elbows smacked into him in a blur of quidditch robes and flying brooms. Who he didn’t know, they’d slipped by too fast with the rest of the other players zipping by for him to even pretend to have an idea but he did know whoever had thrown that hit had a mean elbow…

He rubbed his arm with an annoyed sound. “Well that answers that question.”

Ugh, he could NOT believe he’d fallen victim to such a stupid easy move so early on. It was just the cherry on top that the bloodthirsty harpy had gotten away with it so easily. So much for a fun, easy game.

It was almost too easy for Cecily as she racked up 50 points on the scoreboard, completely unopposed. Come on, Gryffindor, it's her last game. Where was the challenge? It was almost unbelievable how completely and entirely they had abandoned any effort towards the Quaffle whatsoever, and Cecily couldn't help but feel a little hurt that they didn't even want to try to compete. She couldn't keep a grin off her face as she pulled back after the fifth unanswered goal in a row. Points were points, after all, and if Gyrffindor didn't want them, she was happy to be of service. Besides, it gave her a moment to keep an eye on her team—who was doing phenomenally, by the way! All too many matches had gone south right off the bat (so to speak), but Cecily was seeing this match shaped up to be one of their most successful yet. As she watched @Ebony Vetra soar in to take a bludger head-on for @Aly Salinger (and as someone who had been on the recieving end of of her fair share, she knew that was the ultimate sacrifice), she could feel the pride growing in her chest. It was a certain kind of feeling, to have known a team for seven years and to see it evolve from a group of rowdy, scrappy kids to a full-fledged, winning team that would take a bullet—or a bludger—for each other. The hours and hours of practice, the team bonding, the experiences and learning and growth from each losing match—it was all in service of this team that took to the sky this morning in pursuit of a resounding victory and who would accept nothing less. And Cecily would be remiss if, for her last match as captain, she didn't help her dedicated, fierce, tenacious flock get there any way she could.

The Quaffle

Cecily Quinn really was the star of the Quaffle show. She scored once, she scored twice... Amidst all the blatching, bludgering and snitch-finding, she was a blur of blue and bronze darting back and forth from the rings.

The Snitch

The Snitch fluttered around, the sun shining brightly above it. Perhaps it was then rather difficult for it to stand out against such natural brightness. Aly in particular would have a difficult time ─ perhaps it was just difficult to see, or maybe the Snitch was invisible. No matter what the difficulty was for her, the Snitch would dart directly into Elsian's line of vision. It was close to him, incredibly close, so close that it couldn't have been missed. So close he would easily be able to dart after it.

The Bludgers

Second-year Odilon Wilde came up to the pitch with a vengeance. He readied himself to swing, and he smacked the bludger across the pitch all the way to Jorah Moussa. Despite his earlier finesse with evasion, Jorah was unable to completely evade this bludger. While it only grazed him, a graze from a heavy lead ball is still pretty painful. Odilon was able to leverage that into a ricochet towards Cecily Quinn, who evaded deftly.

Gryffindor's other Beater, Ethan Smith, hovered in the air and did not hit a bludger at anyone.

Jorah, true to form, sent a bludger right at Ethan, which hit him solidly before ricocheting to Odilon. Odilon didn't get hit as soundly as Ethan, but he still took a hit, and both Gryffindor beaters were sent toppling from their brooms.

KOB Fouls

Amidst all the action, no one would notice Lavinia Cloven stealthily soaring across the Quidditch pitch. She struck with immense accuracy, and despite wonderful efforts, Haley was unable to evade. However, all hope was not lost.

Lithaen Galathynius must have seen her falling, because she grabbed her broom and hurried onto the pitch to perform the action Diana was meant to perform. She swooped towards Haley, the older girl landing soundly on her broom, able to play another round.

Outcome

• Jorah Moussa successfully bludger KOBs Ethan Smith and Odilon Wilde.
• Lavinia Cloven blatches Haley Rose and is not seen. Haley is caught by Lithaen Galathynius. They are sharing a broom.
• Elsian Cox sees the Snitch on a critical success, so he can skip his Chase phase.
