2023/24 Stage 3 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 7

Draven had joined the dueling team for one reason, and one reason only.

It was a stupid reason, one that reeked of privilege. A privilege he hadn't earned, but rather lucked into. With his job. With his potions. With his roommate. It was a privilege that he didn't deserve. And yet there he was anyway.

His hands were sweaty, he was aware of that distantly. Slick onto his wand, the fine wood molding to his fingers as if it was meant to be there. The team had practiced. Him, Lucian, and Pyx. They'd met up a couple times. Thrown each other into a couple walls. Worked up adrenaline, the sweet hits of the chemical making Draven's mind go blissfully quiet.

He only hoped he'd be able to achieve the same high again.

Junkie. He was a junkie.

The Slytherin's stomach rolled uncomfortably as he made his way to where Lucian and Pyx were standing. He was wearing nicer clothes than usual. A comfortable turtle neck and his good pants. Wasn't sure why, considering he'd be set on fire before the night was out.

But he supposed to event called for some sort of decorum.

Taking his place beside the other two Slytherin boys, Draven made a conscious effort to unclench his jaw. He'd win no matter what the outcome of the duel was. He supposed it was for the other two boys that anxiety had made itself present in his stomach.

Anthony was nervous. He held his larch wand, rubbing it between his fingers to hopefully spark the confidence that it has given him throughout the year. He found that it had given it to him whenever Anthony needed it most, however it seemed to be stubborn in this situation.
As he was rubbing his wand, he thought of many strategies to himself on how he was going to approach this duel. He hadn't talked to his fellow Ravenclaw teammates, and they hadn't really come up with an overall strategy. Anthony felt mildly uncomfortable with this, but he knew that it would allow his teammates more creative freedom with their strategy, and he hoped that his fellow teammates would be able to support the team through this method of unpredictable dueling.
This was going to be his first official duel; he had dueled a couple times before today but not in a 3v3 fashion.
He was both excited and terrified, and he was ready to prove his worth as an excellent duelist.

A million thoughts were plaguing his mind and something uncomfortable bubbled in his stomach. So… a perfectly normal day for Pyxis. Just when I think I'm getting used to this whole wizarding thing, I get pushed into the deep end. Again. He didn’t believe his casting was consistent enough for him to be standing on stage right now, but he knew this was his one shot. If he couldn’t rise to the pressure, there were many talented housemates who would gladly take the position from him and wouldn’t give it back so easily. In a way, unbeknownst to both of them, Pyxis was exactly like Draven - addicted. Moderating was satisfactory and could almost catch up to the intensity of competing, but it could never match it. His practice sessions with the second years had him hooked and he was pumped to finally put his spells to good use.

This was going to be his second official duel… Lucian wasn’t as nervous as he was before. He and his team had won their last one, coming out on top and they hadn’t had any losses. The whole team standing out on top when the match was called to an end. He wasn’t naive enough to believe that this one would also go that way, he held the Ravenclaw’s to a little more respect than he did the Gryffs. They were smart, but the Lions (to him) were, and always would be, brutes to him.

Some of the younger students looked excited, others looked nervous, and some looked like they were both - but when the duel began, not a one of them froze up - the spells began to fly! Jake knew that not all of them had dueled before, but you wouldn't know it to look at them. The Ravenclaws seemed to have a plan in mind - because all three of them would shoot fire right for the Slytherins! For all three of them in fact...each Ravenclaw targeting a different snake. Draven, one of the older students in this duel, was too quick - dodging out of the way and firing a knockback jinx right at Anthony - blasting the younger student backwards. The other two snakes were not so lucky.

Both Lucian and Pyxis would feel the heat from the Ravenclaws' incendios, and even worse for the snakes, Pyxis would see flames starting to grow on the sleeve of her robes! It seemed the Ravenclaws, in their organized assault, might have got the best of the opening stage of this battle!

[Spectator Thread: Morning]

It all moved far too fast to follow. One minute, they were squaring up to the Ravenclaws; the next, Pyxis was on fire. Draven cursed under his breath, just managing to dodge an Incendio hurled his way. The spell wooshed beside him, heat coming uncomfortably close to his skin before slamming against the wall behind him.

At least he hadn't managed to lose his balance.

The same couldn't be said for the Ravenclaw kid across from him. His spell hit Anthony square in the chest, throwing him backward. Draven cringed, mouthing a 'sorry' in his direction. Anthony was a sweet-looking kid. Glasses that made his eyes unnaturally bigger sat on a tiny pale nose. His wand, a garish thing sculpted to look like a bird taking flight, was held loosely in one hand. The shock of brown hair that fell over the kid's forehead was glossy, almost unnaturally so. He'd come wearing his full uniform, all the bells and whistles attached.

Draven made a mental note to find him after the duel and apologize.
