Kaya smiled looking at Yasha. It was interesting to be in his company and she was finding him as a good guy. There's not much to say about it. I still wasn't in other places there that much. However, I find it beautiful and it's rather nice to live there.

Listening to him speaking about how Koldov was hidden, she thought there's a small similarity to it. Ilver is hidden on mountain, so I can understand the feeling. She paused, enjoying the moment of dancing together. Forest? Sounds so cool! I have quite impressive library at mansion too, but we have garden on backyard and river nearby rather than forest. It feels great, but I'm interested how it would be with forest. Kaya looked enthusiastic and intrigued at Yasha. With them thinking about getting new mansion in another country, like holiday house, she started to wonder if it could be somewhere with forest.

For me it's books and outdoors. I like to read in the garden or at night looking at stars. Sometimes I'd take guitar and play something. She smiled. She wasn't too much into books, but it was only the ones she didn't find interesting. Quidditch? That's really fantastic! I'm on my school team for it as seeker. She smiled.

Kaya noticed he moved them to less crowded part and she really appreciated it. She had a nice idea now for crafting but wanted to know Yasha more first. What animal in your opinion represents you the best?

Linda smiled at the surroundings. It was nothing close to what they just left and she was happy about it. Looking at Quentin, she couldn't stop admiring him as well, if not more.

As he offered to take a drink or something from food, she gave it a thought for a second before answering. Strawberry tea would be fine, if you could bring it. She smiled. Linda didn't need to eat, and neither she was in any need to drink, but it still was a good idea. And if she was more honest with herself, some minutes of Quentin taking drinks and food, if he wanted to eat, would give both of them a moment to prepare for dancing and probably going to the crafting area at some point of the ball.

As much as Linda wanted to experience dancing with him, she found herself feeling a bit nervous now when they got here. She could dance well, but knowing how this evening was going, Linda expected herself getting lost in his eyes again, especially while dancing. If you want to eat, you can take something for yourself, and maybe some fruits for me.

Realizing she still was holding his hand, Linda blushed. Luckily for her, mask would help hiding it a bit, though it was still noticeable. Thinking about his question for house, she looked at Quentin's eyes. So far she still knew so little about him. That would be hard to say about house, but she could simply state her thoughts. Later maybe, she'd give better answer. I'd like to know you more before I give you an answer. She smiled mysteriously. You seem to be ambitious, hard-working, loyal and brave. So you have all values for all houses, but what do you have more? That would be intriguing to know which house hat would give you. She smiled enthusiastically, her eyes full of curiosity and shine.

Sharing a dance with a stranger, Stephen Schwartz/@AngelFyre McCubbin

Miles didn't want to do this. He didn't have a date to the ball for the very reason that he didn't want to have to dance with anyone, didn't want to have to work on any sort of ill-fated romance. Relationships were something that the lucky had and others weren't granted that privilege. They were raised alone, they grew up alone, they died alone - that was his past, his present, his future.

Just stop. Be done. LEAVE! The voices in his head seemed to get so loud and so perturbed that he heard a scream.

But it was only in his head, wasn't it?

It would be minutes before the boy beside him would ask if he heard anything and Miles just shook his head slowly and subtly in reply.

The boy then stated that they needed to look casual, friendly, like dates. The very word made him inwardly cringe but Miles just nodded. Acting like everything was perfectly normal was precisely what he had done his entire lifetime when it came to his parents, to society, to school.

"It doesn't matter who leads," he said softly, just wanting this dance over with. He shouldn't have come. His one hand already was now joined with the other boy's and he place his other hand on his back to get ready to start with the box step part of the waltz. All high society pureblooded wizards knew this by the time they were old enough to say their name.

The two were nearly the same height but Miles was taller just by an inch or so, so he did take the lead when it came to the turn. The first turn was more of a slow turn, and it wasn't until he glanced down at the way the Victorian suit jacket sort of moved with the turn and slowly looked back up at the boy in front of him that he felt his heart start to beat faster. Why? Was he not sure he was doing this dance correctly? Of course he was.

Obviously he was just growing tired of the night.

Yasha nodded and led the dance as Kaya spoke. He was generally inclined to take her lead on their activities for the evening, so when she indicated that she was done dancing and ready to do crafts, to the crafts they would go. Until then, he would guide her through one song after another as they talked. He was beginning to feel rather glad that they had encountered each other. It was turning out to be a much more interesting evening than he would have spent in his cabin alone. Maybe there was something to these dances after all, at least in meeting new people. If he could continue to meet mature people who wanted to do more than talk about petty gossip, he might actually come to enjoy these balls.

"Seeker is a good position. If you are good at it, it means that you are keen and quick." He commented. "I prefer beater over all, but mostly play keeper as my cousins are inept at it." He said with a small chuckle. "I may rejoin my school team if there is an opening."

He chuckled a little more at her abrupt question, not because he thought it was silly, but he was caught off guard and had never thought about it too deeply before. "Well," He started thoughtfully. "as cliche as it might be, I suppose the wolf. They are fierce, proud creatures who care for their families, but are just as capable of fighting and living alone. What about you, Miss Kaya Rose?" He asked in turn. He didn't usually enjoy interacting with girls, which was why he spent most of his balls at home either complete absent or causing mischief. There was simply nothing else to do. Most of the purebloods girls he knew were vain and vapid and not only had very little that was interesting to say, they had hobbies that were vain and vapid and were highly uninteresting to talk about.

At least with this Kaya Rose, if they ran out of interesting things to say, they could enjoy quidditch together or read books and for some reason, that seemed like something Yasha was very interested in doing with her.

Irina couldn't help herself but laught at Mahl's attempt at a posh British accent. Firstly, there was a little room for improvement. And secondly, it was so strange to hear them without their trademark Scottish accent! Still giggling, her stomach filled with a pleasant feeling from the laughter, Irina sat down and started tucking in, noting as she did that Mahlioz seemed a little . . . on edge. Irina didn't say anything to begin with, partly because she didn't know if she was overthinking, and partly cause talking was out of the question - she had put far to much food in her mouth.

"Gods, I'm so glad you're here. I can't believe you haven't been to one of these before!"
Irina tried to smile, cheeks bulging. She put a hand over her mouth and managed to mumble, "I know right!" She quickly swallowed her remaining mouthful of food before giving her friend a proper grin. "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. So, uuhm, what normally happens at these balls?"

Irina watched someone walk past with a large drink in their hand. 'I didn't see any drink,' she thought happily, turning in her chair to look once more in the direction of the food table. And there they were, a large array of fruity looking drinks. She turned back in her chair to face Mahlioz.
"I'm gonna go and get a drink. Wanna come?" She then hopped out of her chair and headed towards the table.

Irina had never been one for making decisions but finally settled on a strawberry ginger faux-jito - it looked similar to a drink Aunt Liz had taught her to make using 'lemon-ade,' or some kind of muggle drink. She picked it up with a floushrish and took a big gulp. "Oooo, this tastes good," she smiled. "What are you gonna have?"

"Mhm!" Mouth full of food, the little Valkyrie had to chew hastily and swallow before she could chipperly answer, "Greta, yes! Margarethe is name my family gave to me, but friends call me Greta." Smiling, she stuck her hand out as the younger boy offered his, though quickly pulled it back to wipe crumbs off on her dress before actually taking him up on the gesture. Fingers closed in around his forearm, just above his wrist, and she gave him a sort of squeeze and little shake, quite unlike a typical English handshake. @Anthony Kingsmage

"Is nice to be meeting you, Anthony Anthony. Strange name, no? Why is given same name two times?" Perplexed, curiosity danced across her features. If she had heard him correctly, he'd said he was a king's mage. She had never met someone who worked for a king before. Although, maybe it was similar to how the Horntail Horde had sometimes called Yeffy their king. He was small, this Anthony Anthony, but perhaps he was like Greta: mighty with a wand. She would have to find out more. But first... She gave him a sheepish little grin and held a finger up to her lips when he asked where Durmstrang was. "Is secret. But you now meet many not from Hogwarts."

Speaking of... A call of her name drew her attention briefly away from the boy. Sparkling cerulean eyes shifted to find the delightful source, brightening when they fell upon a younger blonde wearing an absolutely pristine white dress and gold metallic mask. Since the mask hardly covered much at all, however, it was quite easy to recognize the individual beneath. Smile cracking across her porcelain visage, Greta waved the girl over encouragingly. @Anastasia Varney as Astrid Olsen

"Astrid, hello! Have you seen Niffy and Roo and the others? I thought they were just behind me, but I don't see them anywhere now. How are you? Come join me. I am making a new friend. His name is Anthony Anthony. He is a king's mage. He goes to Hogwarts and has not met anyone from any of the other schools yet, so he must have just started this year." Like a little bird, she tweeted off the latest little bits of information that she had gathered from her new friend, merrily passing them along in Norwegian. It wasn't until her underclassman drew nearer that Greta craned her neck to inspect the contents of the girl's beverage, taking a sniff at it if the girl would let her get close enough. She hadn't quite made it over to the drink table yet, but perhaps she would have to do so.

That could wait, however, as Greta turned back to Anthony, motioning towards Astrid. "This is—" But there was no need to introduce the girl as the younger blonde slipped easily into English and provided her own introduction. "I am thinking I am to get a drink. You want a drink?" she inquired, peering towards Anthony Anthony. As far as she could tell, he'd had a number of things to eat, but had no liquid in sight. Surely he must be as thirsty as she was. "I get you something."

The arrival of a wolf (@Marshal Mozor) in proximity to their little gathering had drawn Greta's attention. Several inches taller than she was, and quite broad of shoulders, he seemed likely to be likely around her age, though it was hard to tell given the mask over his face. He'd plucked up an apple and bit into it as dark eyes scanned about. But like the rest of them save for Astrid, he hadn't served himself a drink yet. His hair was the right colour and texture... and in the shadow of the mask, his eyes looked dark brown as well. She bit her lip. It wouldn't be possible to know if it was him unless he said something, though, so she netted him into their growing conversation as well. "And you, too, yes?"

As Greta knew too well from the upbringing of her parents, a good hostess made sure every guest had a drink in hand. Sure, she wasn't the one responsible for throwing the ball, but that didn't mean she couldn't provide a little hospitality anyway. She would give them exactly enough time to provide their preferences before darting off, and any declinations would be entirely ignored. Grabbing an Italian cream soda for herself, she would—unless they had specifically requested something different, in which case their requests would override the following—retrieve a pumpkin juice for Anthony Anthony and gamble on a berry spritzer for the wolf (the wolves that roamed the forests where she resided liked to eat the berries of the woods after all).

"Here," she would chime, handing over the drink she'd retrieved for Anthony Anthony.

Then, "And I get for you, here." A warm smile underlay a light rouging of her cheeks as she held out the drink for the wolf.

April 13, 2024 - Masquerade Ball

Though told it did not matter who was to lead, to be honest, it did matter a bit to Stephen. The Fox took smooth command of the situation when he placed his hand in the center of Stephen's lower back and self-assuredly began moving them around the dance floor. There were other couples waltzing as well, turning and swaying, but not a great number. The Ball had not been open for all that long and it was still daylight, though that would not be the case for long. He suspected as the evening wore on, more couples might find themselves out here under the cover of darkness - where the courage for intimacies could more easily be found and shared and the resulting blushes could more easily be hidden.

The reason he had wanted to lead was not because of worry to his masculinity and how this might be perceived, but because he could do the Waltz in his sleep. Leading would have required little to no thinking on Stephen's part and that would have given him the cognitive space he needed to maybe make polite small talk with his partner while scanning the area for EmmaLee. But right out of the gate he started on the wrong foot, literally, and stepped forward when he should have gone backwards. This resulted in an awkward chest-bump collision and a slight stumble as Stephen stepped solidly down on the lead's mirror-shined, polished shoe. They came to a brief, but abrupt, halt, and after Stephen silently cursed himself under his breath and gathered his wits about him, he resumed his proper dance posture and looked at the Fox.

"Please accept my sincerest apologies for stepping on your foot and ruining the rhythm at the start. To be honest, I've danced the waltz hundreds of times, but never backwards. I'm kind of regretting that glaring hole in my dance education right now. It takes some concentration to actively fight against my muscle memory here," and he smiled quickly before it disappeared as his brain went into overdrive to keep ahead of the next step, telling himself to do just the opposite of what he would normally. Whip smart though he was, he was only human and not a computer. It was moderately better the longer they went, but it was still choppy for about the first half of their dance.

There was one more stumble about 45 seconds after the first, and Stephen actually felt pretty good about that as forty-five seconds was a more than decent span of time with no mistakes while doing something new. He was confident, maybe falsely so, that he was not going to step on this guy's shoe again for the rest of the dance. And he didn't. About three quarters of the way into it, he had become more than tolerable in his role. Looking for EmmaLee would have had him scotch the whole thing up, numerous times over, so he gave himself permission not to. He was so engrossed in trying not to take a step out of place that the immediate thought he had had to scan the area for her had evaporated.

He knew they were not too far off from the end, or he suspected such, when he finally began to relax just a little. As he directed his gaze to the masked face before him, he found it hard to read. He could see the piercing blue eyes, but with other facial features not visible, Stephen was clueless what the boy he was dancing with might be thinking. So he decided to ask a question that he was curious to have an answer to, for good or bad.

"May I ask what prompted you to ask me to dance? The real reason? Sorry, but I don't believe it was the Truth or Dare game, not really." Maybe he would answer and maybe he would not. It crossed Stephen's mind too late after coming to the end of his question that the Fox could be so irritated by the question that he would politely bow out and leave Stephen alone on the dance floor, but he did not think it likely. He seemed too well mannered to do such a thing. The guy may wish to leave him high and dry right then and there, but what one wishes to do and what one does are sometimes two different things.

As they moved gracefully into another turn and Stephen was guided through space previously occupied by the Fox, every breath he took seemed suddenly awash in the most subtle, earthy scent of slightly warmed Sandalwood. But there was something more. He didn’t recognize what the more was, but he smiled involuntarily. Something had been evoked beneath the surface of his conscious thinking and he didn’t care to give thought to it for a change. He just wanted to live in it while he could.

Another dance at Hogwarts meant another date for Aaron and Opeila. Considering their first official date had been at the Light Festival back in October - the day they'd become official as a couple, too - it felt fitting that they continue attending the Hogwarts balls together. They just had to cross their fingers that nothing would go wrong. Apparently during the last ball, there had been some Grindylows causing havoc down by the boat rides; but, the two of them had been far from that chaos and enjoyed a pleasant night. Maybe tonight could be the same.

But the Hufflepuff half of the equation was running late tonight. Aaron had fallen asleep while doing some homework for Potions. He wasn't normally so tired in the afternoon, but he'd been up pretty late the night before because of an encounter with Amina Petrovic. A witch from Durmstrang who'd dared him to jump off the Astronomy tower with her. It had been a pretty fun night.

By the time he woke up from his unexpected nap, though, Aaron was already a few minutes late to the ball and he still needed to get ready. He rushed through his shower and got dressed quickly. He was trying something a little different for tonight's look - a black suit vest with nothing underneath. A look in the mirror revealed exactly what the sixteen-year-old wanted - his toned arms on display and a slight peek at his chest muscles. He enjoyed looking good, especially when he knew that Opeila was going to dress up for tonight too. After pulling on some looser suit pants to match the vest, he grabbed the white mask he'd bought on his last trip to Hogsmeade and tied it around his face. One more look in the mirror, then he was out the Hufflepuff dorms and on his way to the Quidditch Stadium.

He flew his Silver Arrow down to the pitch to make up for some lost time, dismounting just a few minutes from the pitch itself. Aaron shrank the broom small enough to fit in his pocket, then joined the crowds heading for the pitch. At least he wasn't the only late one. As he walked through the crowds, the Hufflepuff overheard bits and pieces about a scavenger hunt that he apparently missed. But he headed straight for the main ball in the pitch itself, assuming that Opeila would already be here. Hopefully she was mingling and not too upset about his tardiness.

Aaron walked through huge wooden gates to enter the pitch, which had been transformed. There was a lot of color, and there were even trees that seemingly grew overnight. The Hufflepuff fifth-year was impressed by the ball committee decorations, as he usually was. The resources they had with the backing of the school staff really did transport students into another world. But being back on the Quidditch pitch for a ball was weird, considering the last one was the Secret Blossom Ball of 2020. If he was remembering correctly. He went through an archway that spoke of wearing masks, but he had come prepared with his own so he didn't grab one of the spares. Instead, he walked into the crowd of other people, searching for his girlfriend.
TL;DR: getting ready, flying down to the pitch, entering the ball, looking around for Opeila

Basil sighed with relief as Devon relented and walked into the ball with him. He turned to her and smiled when he walked in. I will try and not fight with Alice- as long as she doesn't fight with me! Basil thought. Basil twirled Devon.
"Well we finally made it to the ball. Hogwarts doesn't do anything easy huh?" Basil said teasingly. He then lowered his voice.
"Thank you by the way." He said. Basil turned around and his jaw dropped. The Hogwarts committee for the ball didn't do anything small. Lights were strung on the trees- which they had some how turned different colors. Little lights floated around that Basil was sure would look better as the sky darkened into the evening. Wow. I wonder how long this took? Basil wondered. He pulled up his sleeve and checked his wizard watch. Huh, only about a half hour in. Basil realized. He pulled Devon more into the ball.
"Do you want to get some drinks? Or maybe some food?" Basil asked. Basil walked towards the table. A thought came into his mind, sure it wasn't the nicest thing to do, if she found out it was him she might kill him... but she did want to get caught. Basil hoped that he would regret this decision as he slowly and sneakily slid his foot in front of Devon's leg. Please don't notice! He hoped.

Action: Contemplating dessert and trying to rip Uri's mask off.
Reginald arched an eyebrow at the scene that began to unfold in front of him. Siobhan's flurry of activity was both impressive and confusing. Why was she running towards the flowers? He couldn't help but be amused by the events transpiring, especially considering the unexpected but damn solid punch that had landed poor Uri into the dirt.

With a small smirk playing on his lips, Reginald leaned against the table that had both the refreshments and dessert, before taking another bite from his friend's saved (stolen) dessert, and mock pouted. "But Siobhan, I saved this dessert from your...accident. Uri's nose was intentional destruction on your part. This dessert wasn't. I claim it as my trophy. I can leave you the last bite, though." he said, a smirk ever present on his face, and a hint of mischief sparkling in his eyes.

Reginald's eyes did twitch, however, when Uri commented on his mask staying on and furrowed his brows. "What do you mean? It's just a mask, right? Pull it off." He said as he slowly linked a hand under Uri's mask, exerting all of his (0) strength to rip off the thing, if only to check up on the boy's nose under there.

Force was exerted and Reginald felt his muscles contract, something he rarely felt much after deciding to focus on his Dexterity and agility as a kid, and finally, he gave up. "This thing is definitely stuck to your face with magic. Wouldn't that hurt, though?". Reginald shrugged, believing that the boy might have been ignoring the pain because a broken nose was worse.

"Well, I'm no healer, but I know one thing..." Reginald quickly, with deft hands, swiped another spoon from the table next to him and slid it around the plate he held, offering the end with the new spoon over to Uri with a smile "Friends share in punches and parfait! And there is no way in hell I'm letting Siobhan punch me like that, so I'll just share this with you instead." He said with a wide, impish grin as he took another bite of Siobhan's saved (Stolen) dessert, and winked at his new friend who will, hopefully, by the end of this night, have an unimpaired nasal structure.
