If there was anything Pericles had learned from the balls he attended, it was that Hogwarts was a hotspot for trauma. He had wished he'd had Calming Drought on hand the last time he was around younger years having their first near-death experience. In preparation for the Spring Ball, rather than shopping for a costume or hunting for a date, Pericles was getting ready by brewing a potion.

Glass jar lids clinked open. Peri counted four sprigs of lavender and three chamomile petals into a mortal and pestle, then ground them into fine powder. He made the mistake of sniffing over the floral dust only to heave a massive sneeze, thankfully turning his head in time to not contaminate his brew. He scooped four measures of the powder into his cauldron, then pulled on a pair of gloves to begin handling the crocodile heart. It was diced well before blended in, combined with the floral powder over high heat. After timing one minute on his pocket watch, he lowered it to a medium flame and picked up his pestle again. Three sprigs of peppermint were crushed into a medium-fine powder, added the cauldron, and stirred five times in an anti-clockwise direction. He waved his aspen wand over the mix, then let it stew.

After approximately an hour, the young potioneer reduced the heat to low and counted in two measures of Standard Ingredient. Counting out three clockwise turns, he crushed and ground one dried poppy head into a course powder, then scraped it into the cauldron. He returned the heat to high, let it boil for forty seconds, then turned off the flame completely. After a final three clockwise stirs, he waved his wand over the potion, then cross-referenced his recipe book to make sure the color was correct. The batch was bottled, ready to go for the next dance gone wrong.

Potion | Antidote to Uncommon Poisons

1 February, 2024

After successfully brewing the Calming Draught for Simon the night before, AngelFyre felt that the Antidote to Uncommon Poisons might be the more pressing of her remaining brews. If he was going to be spending the bulk of his summer with his vampyric progenitor and his nest of vampires, AngelFyre wanted Simon protected. The vampires had been around for a long time. Certainly long enough that if they took it in their heads to poison someone as opposed to draining them dry and thereby misdirecting any suspicion heading their way, it might not be a common poison they would use. She wanted to send him off as protected as he could be… at least as protected as it was within her power to have him be.

So laying everything out in the Prefect’s Bathroom like she had done the night before, she went right to work. Two (2) Fire Seeds were tossed into her mortar and were worked over by the pestle until she saw they had been rendered into roughly crushed pieces. She looked over at her book and then quickly poured the pieces into her cauldron. Then she wrapped her long fingers around each of the three (3) Chizpurfle Carapaces, splitting them open one by one and desperately trying not to think about how they sounded like kindling snapping when being gathered for campfires. She dutifully added them into the cauldron with the fire seed pieces. The recipe said to now stir these two ingredients together exactly five (5) times, counter-clockwise, so she did. She lined her wooden spurtle up at the inside edge of her cauldron, near the left side exterior handle, which would be her starting point. She began to move it counter-clockwise, counting each full revolution as one stir each time she made it back to her starting point. After doing this the requisite five (5) times, she set the spurtle down and went back to her mortar.

She first grabbed a clean rag and wiped the mortar down before adding the two (2) Billywig Stings to it. These she would crush into a fine powder. When she thought it looked nice and smooth and fine, she continued to grind it down some more just to make certain. Once she was satisfied that it truly was a finely ground powder, she emptied it into the cauldron and stirred all the ingredients two (2) times, but in a clockwise direction this time. Setting the spurtle down, she then reached for Godshall, her wand, and waved it over the cauldron.

With Godshall still in hand, she successfully cast “Incendio”, and then set the flame to a low heat. The cauldron ingredients needed to brew for 40-60 minutes, so AngelFyre set her muggle, wind up alarm clock for 50 minutes.

As she waited for the time to pass, she cleaned off her mortar and pestle and put them away. Scanning the recipe over, she noted that the Powdered Graphorn Horn was the last ingredient to be used. She wanted to know why it might be that it was in this particular potion, so she grabbed her copy of Newt Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to appease her curiosity. It turns out that a Graphorn’s hide was even more resistant to spells than a dragon’s hide. AngelFyre then wondered if the magic that was imbued to the final brew somehow activated that Graphorn Horn spell resistance, making it a perfect ingredient to resist uncommon poisons? Nothing was precisely spelled out as to why the Graphorn Horn was used, but she thought she might be on the right track in her thinking.

Still musing on it, and looking up the other ingredients as well, she lost all track of time and was startled a bit when the driiiiing of her alarm clock sounded, echoing throughout the cavernous, marbled room. She had already pre-measured the three (3) measures of the Powdered Graphorn Horn in anticipation of the final steps, so while setting her book aside, she was already reaching for the last ingredient. She poured it into the concoction currently simmering in the cauldron and then turned the flame to high. Safety always a concern, she donned her protective dragon hide gloves while waiting for it to reach a boil. When it did begin to boil, AngelFyre marked 20 seconds off on her wind up wrist watch. At the end of that 20 seconds, it had reached a satisfying roiling boil, so she carefully lifted the hot cauldron off the flame. Grabbing her spurtle, she stirred it three (3) times in a northerly hemisphere direction, which is to say, clockwise, and finished it all off by waving Godshall over her brew.

AngelFyre looked at the liquid in her cauldron. It was the bright spring green color she was looking for it to be, so she felt certain she had achieved a successful brew. The recipe indicated that it would yield two doses, so with great concentration, she poured the hot potion into two glass phials with the use of a funnel and then stoppered them both up. Like she had done with the Calming Draught the evening before, she would melt fragrant beeswax around the stopper so that Simon would know it had not been tampered with or opened. This she would do once she got back to her dorm room, however, and after the potion phials had had time to cool off. At that point she would also put her handmade labels on them, and call it a night well spent.

Potion | Wit-Sharpening Potion

Roleplay | (perms granted by Prof. Regan) - 1111 words

O.W.L.s were coming up, and Aly Salinger really wanted to pass Potions.

It had always been one of her weaker subjects, though a burst of studying in her second and third year had at least brought her up to a tentative "O" average (albeit about as low as one could go and still hold an Outstanding). Now, Aly didn't want to be a Healer anymore, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't need an O on her Potions O.W.L. - especially since she had no idea what she did want to do right about now, so it made sense for her to score as high as possible in as many areas as possible, just to keep her options open.

The best way to study Potions was to, of course, brew, and Aly had devised a plan. If she brewed a Wit-Sharpening Potion successfully, she could use at least one of the doses (if not both) to read through her Potions textbook and, hopefully, really retain the information in a way she hadn't before. Was that cheating? She didn't know, necessarily, but she'd gotten a lot better at less-than-legal foulplay recently anyway.

So after having gotten the Potions professor's permission to do some extra brewing in the Potions classroom during the off hours between classes, under the Irish woman's watchful eye of course, Aly gathered the necessary ingredients from the shelves for a good old Wit-Sharpening: two equally sized ginger roots, a jar of armadillo bile, an oddly bulky bag of scarab beetles, and a jar of newt spleens, plus her cauldron and a container of water, naturally. Setting the cauldron over a low fire to begin heating, Aly used a small paring knife to deftly peel the rough outside from the ginger roots, then slice them into uniform slices, one inch long but only a quarter of such thick. Putting those to the side, the teenager reached for the bag of scarabs and counted out two dozen into one of the mortars that littered the classroom, then took a pestle to them until they were nothing but shimmering dust. The last bit of ingredient prep was to take her same paring knife and slice lightly into the surface of three newt spleens to score them; the spleens went immediately into the pre-heated cauldron and Aly set a mental timer for two minutes. When that was up, she flipped the spleens to their uncooked sides and again watched the clock for two rounds of the second hand.

Once those had finished, Aly left the spleens in the cauldron and added the water, measuring out one ounce six times. She watched the clock for eight minutes, ticking away the seconds while she mentally reviewed the rest of the steps in her head; after all, she'd studied this before and was trying her best to do it without the recipe right in front of her. Was it eight or ten minutes? After eight minutes (and thirty seconds extra just in case), Aly counted out half of the slices of ginger root and dropped them lightly into the cauldron to avoid splashing any of the lightly bubbling liquid onto her bare skin. Taking a wooden spoon from a nearby jar of spoons, Aly began to stir the potion in a slow and purposeful clockwise motion - once, twice, thrice, and so on, until the liquid inside matched her green eyes, albeit perhaps with a bit more brilliance. Measuring out one measure of the bile, she added half of that to the cauldron and then reversed the direction of her gentle stirring until the potion was more the blue of her best friend's eyes than the green of her own.

The scarab dust, so finely ground earlier, had grown bored of waiting, and it was good timing, too, since that was the next ingredient that went into the potion - twenty-four beetles' worth of it. The cauldron was looking just a little dry, now, so Aly grabbed an ounce measurement and scooped it four times into the water container, adding four total ounces of clear, cool liquid to her bubbling mixture. From there, she continued to stir as slowly and purposefully as she possibly could, in the same direction as before - counter-clockwise - until the potion did not resemble eyes at all, but rather, the scarlet of a Gryffindor robe. Only then did she remove her spoon from the cauldron and set her internal timer to three minutes. The best potions, of course, were allowed to simmer. To brew. To become themselves.

Of the remaining half measure of bile, Aly took half of that - so a quarter measure, total - and dumped it into the cauldron once the three minutes were up. The spoon returned, and Aly again stirred counter-clockwise - this was beginning to seem monotonous - for a few minutes. When she glanced down at the brew inside her cauldron, it had unfortunately turned just a touch too green for her taste, a couple shades too dark from the yellow it was supposed to be. Grabbing the rest of her water, Aly slowly began to pour in a little bit of the three remaining ounces, watching as the colour lightened to the proper yellow. A drop of sweat dripped from the tip of her long nose, luckily missing splashing into the cauldron by just a few centimetres. The Ravenclaw used the sleeve of her robes to wipe away her nerves. Phew. That could have been quite bad.

The rest of the ginger root was the next ingredient to make its introduction to the interior of Aly's cauldron, and she again began to stir, a little faster than before, but in a clockwise direction this time. There was only one ingredient left, now, and Aly grabbed for it - a quarter measure remaining of the armadillo bile - but in her haste, she knocked the measure off the table and it went flying, a small spill of putrid, dull green liquid splashing across the stone floor beneath her. Grumbling, the teenager fetched a new measure and dipped it into the armadillo bile jar, then poured out half of it, then poured out half of that to make one quarter of a measure, which then went promptly into her cauldron. Luckily, she hadn't lost much time and could still complete the potion by stirring it counter-clockwise, watching the colour fade until there was really not much colour at all. White as a pearl, pale as Aly herself. Turning off the heat, Aly hefted her cauldron to a different perch and took out her aspen-wood wand; after waving it to finish off her masterpiece, she moved to fetch some vials. Thank goodness this one was over.

Potion | Forgetfulness Potion (First Lesson)
Ingredients required | Lethe River Water, Valerian, Standard Ingredient, Mistletoe Berries

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Fresh from his first potions lesson, Theo moped in disappointment at not being allowed to keep the almost perfect concoction he had brewed up. Unlike a lot of students, the young Gryffindor did not think potions class was less fun or engaging than the traditional wand waving lessons offered in charms. Quite the opposite. Being muggle born and struggling to adjust to the wizarding world, potions made the most sense to him. He could understand it in the same way he understood cooking food. There were ingredients that had to be prepared in a certain way and combined to create something new and beautiful.

When he found out that the potions classroom was open during free periods to assist older students studying for their owls, he jumped at the chance to hop in and set his cauldron up at a free station. He was going to brew the same potion that he had practised in class only the day before. The forgetfulness potion.

Theo started by reading the textbook to confirm he had all the ingredients he needed and then positioned them in a line on a chopping board. First the two drops of Lethe River Water, which he precariously added, making sure not to spill the bottle. He then hung his cauldron over the open fire for twenty seconds, in which time he prepared the valerian, taking two sprigs and throwing them in. He watched cautiously for a moment in fear that it might explode, despite the lack of volatile ingredients. Once his nerves were settled he began to stir three times clockwise with his ladle.

Theo started to smirk smugly to himself as he was getting the hang of it and waved his wand over the cauldron. He took in a sharp breath, glancing at the textbook one last time. ‘Leave to brew for forty five to sixty minutes’ it read. As if he was going to leave his cauldron unattended and let an older student sabotage his baby. No, Theo was going to stand there for the full hour watching springs change colour. The next step could be completed while waiting anyway. He measured out two standard ingredient and four mistletoe berries, packed them into his mortar and began crushing until the mixture was a fine powder. He waited until the cauldron's hour was up and then added two pinches of the powder he had made. He stirred the concoction anti-clockwise five times and waved his wand once more.

He stared at the liquid cautiously, not quite believing he had succeeded. The mixture was an orange colour, and matched the description in the textbook perfectly. Perhaps he had underestimated himself. The boy took out a glass phial from his bag and triumphantly bottled his creation.

While Ava wasn't much of a potioneer, there was a degree of potionwork that she could do. If she could learn transfiguration spells a whole year in advance, it couldn't be that difficult to brew a first year potion. She had her potions book, her wand and cauldron, and the ingredients she had picked up over Spring break. The potion she had chosen to brew may have been on the more unconventional side, but in the back of her mind, she knew it would have its uses.

Ava propped her book conveniently against her mortar and scanned the instructions one last time. She set up her cauldron and grabbed the corked bottle of Lethe River Water, uncorking it carefully before tipping two drops into the cauldron carefully. She heat the cauldron, and counted 20 seconds carefully before grabbing two of her prepared Valerian sprigs and dropping them in the pot. Grabbing a stirring spoon, she stirred the contents three times clockwise. She set the stirring spoon down gently and lifted her wand, waving it over the contents.

Ava breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped aside to let the mixture cook, turning to her remaining ingredients while she waited the hour. She pulled the mortar out from under her book and set it on the table, and emptied two measures of standard ingredient into it. She carefully pushed four mistletoe berries into the mortar, careful not to let them touch her hands. She set to work grinding the mixture into a fine powder, her arms aching at the simple exercise, which was unsurprising given her lack of usage of her muscles during the school year. Sighing to herself, she went to check the cauldron and it was (unsurprisingly) unready, so she slid to the floor and took out her unfinished charms essay from her satchel.

Of course, checking the potion just served as an excuse for Ava not to do the essay, but she eventually finished it, and the mixture in the cauldron was close to looking correct. She grabbed the mortar and brought it over to the cauldron, and when she neared she saw it was ready. She added two pinches of the mixture from the mortar into the cauldron and set the mortar down to pick up the stirring spoon so she could stir the mixture five times, this time anti-clockwise. She set the stirring spoon down once again and picked up her wand, waving it over the mixture to complete the recipe. The potion itself was satisfactory, and she carefully emptied it into her vial and corked it before tucking it safely away in her satchel for when it could be of use.

Potion | Essence of Dittany

Roleplay | (perms granted by Professor Regan) - 686 words

Having successfully brewed the Wit-Sharpening Potion in preparation for her upcoming O.W.L.s, Aly was back for more in the Potions classroom, this time putting her years' worth of wanting to be a Healer to good use.

Just because the fifth-year was starting to stray from her original career path didn't mean that she didn't still harbor a secret love for making sure all of her peers stayed safe and unharmed; she did still always wince whenever someone fell from their broom in Quidditch, landing with a scary crack on the ground underneath. And what potion was a better healing salve than the essence of dittany itself? It had only taken a bit of Potions-professor-persuasion on her part, and now Aly had the full run of the classroom to brew the essence.

It seemed a bit of a simpler potion than the Wit-Sharpening, with certainly less stirring, at the very least. Gathering together her ingredients, Aly looked them over, noting each one in her mind: extract of dittany in a small bottle, a jar of shrake spines, an equally sized jar of gloopy flobberworm mucus, a bunch of dittany leaves, some powdery standard ingredient of course, and the water that you'd always need for brewing a liquid, of course. Hefting her cauldron over the flame, Aly made sure that the heat was actually off - she would need the cauldron to be cold at first - before measuring out a single fluid ounce of the extract and adding it to the empty pot. It was started, now, and there was no going back.

Grabbing a silvery mortar and pestle from a nearby shelf, Aly added two shrake spines to the mortar - careful not to prick herself on the sharp bone - and used the pestle to crush it up. Was she getting stronger, or was it her imagination? Or perhaps the spines just crumbled easily under her stone's harsh surface. Dumping the rough powder into the cauldron, only then did the fifth-year Ravenclaw turn on the heat, setting the flame at a very high temperature. Pulling her aspenwood wand from her pocket, she waved it over the cauldron and glanced at the clock, internalising the time plastered there. There would be some waiting to do at this point, so she busied herself with measuring out her future ingredients, double-checking the recipe against her textbook, and maybe doing a little bit of a sneaky lap around the classroom to see if there was anything that would inspire her to come back and brew another time.

Ten minutes passed and the dittany extract hadn't quite evaporated out yet, so Aly gave it another five minutes, and by that time the cauldron had grown dry enough to continue. Glad that she hadn't had to wait the maximum of twenty-five laps of the second hand, for she had other things to do today too, Aly turned down the heat to a solidly middle temperature and dumped her measured-out ten fluid ounces of clear, cool water into the cauldron, effectively un-drying it. Grabbing a nearby wooden spoon, she stirred thrice counter-clockwise, then dumped her pre-measured flobberworm mucus - three tablespoons' worth of the goopy green slime - into the cauldron, where it plopped with a distinctly unsatisfying splash. She stirred again in the same direction, but five times this time, before reaching for the Standard Ingredient. Three measures of the greenish powder flaked down towards the liquid inside, peppering the surface like seasoning on a soup, though it was quickly incorporated by Aly's single clockwise stir.

She turned off the flame, then; that had been enough heat. Only one ingredient remained, and Aly reached for the bunch of dittany, plucking off two leaves; she dropped them carefully over the cauldron, where they landed delicately on the surface and immediately started gathering water. Like watching paint dry, Aly kept her gaze upon the leaves as they slowly sunk into the liquid and finally settled delicately on the bottom of her cauldron. Waving her aspen wand once again, the Ravenclaw went in search of vials to store her new creation, feeling a smidgen more confident in her potion-brewing abilities.

Mia wandered the halls looking for the potions room. It should be here somewhere. She turned the corner and she could smell it. The smell of fire and potions. She followed the smell to the dark potions classroom where many students were sitting, or standing making their potions. She spotted an empty cauldron near the back and started towards it. She placed her books and satchel down and went to the shelves to get her ingredients. She came back with jar of Lethe River Water teetering dangerously close to the edge of her pile. She set everything down before anything could drop and opened her book to the page with forgetfullyness potion. You never know when it might come in handy. She placed to drops of the water into the cauldron and let it warm up for a few seconds then she put her Valerian sprigs into the potion. She stirred and waved her wand and looked at her book. She sighed as she read that she had to let it sit for 45 to 60 minutes. She decided to flip through her book and look at all the diffrent potions. Time flew and before she new it she had 3 minutes left, and she took that time to find her page. She read through the book and followed the procedures then she gave a contented sigh as she waved her wand over her potion."Finished" She then placed it in a little vial and corked it.

opened his recipe book and started to follow the steps. He added the to drops of lethe water to his cauldron and gently heated the potion for 20 seconds. He added the 2 valerian sprigs to the cauldron and stired the water in the cauldron three times in the clockwise order. After that he waved his wand and let the potion brew for a hour or less. He added the standard ingredient to the mortar and and added the mistletoe berries into the mortar and crushed into powder. He added to pinches of it into the cauldron. Then, he stirred counter-clockwise 5 times and waved his wand to complete the potion which was bright red like it was expected to be. He took one of the crystal philas and poured a little of the potion into it. It took a lot to brew this potion and Andy was sweating because of the heat and hopes that he will brew more potions later.

Potion | Murtlap Essence

It was coming to June's attention that perhaps she was not the best at potions. Something about the chilly, dingy classroom just caused her brain to turn off. Or something like that.

No matter the reason, one thing was true, and that was that June needed to improve. She couldn't survive another trip to the hospital wing for a potion mishap.

And thus, some practice was in order. In a free period, June collected all her ingredients, setting them beside a cole cauldron as she flipped to her recipe. A second year potion surely wouldn't prove too difficult for her, right?

June slowly poured in measures of honey before finally igniting the flame, allowing the golden substance to come to a simmer. one measure of dried nettles to the cauldron, she stirred the mixture clockwise 3 times.

With a focused eye, she took her chopped murtlap tentacles (delicious) and added them to the mixture, keeping an eye on the clock. She began grinding her graphorn horn and, once 25 minutes had passed, added it to the mix. She stirred once, this time anti-clockwise, and allowed the mixture to sit for another 10 minutes.

Please, please work. If this doesn't look right at the end, I'll be convinced I'm cursed.

Once the time passed, June carefully peered into the cauldron, holding her breath in anticipation.

Relief flooded her mind as she saw a gently simmering liquid, the last stages of a perfect potion. Well, probably not perfect, but good enough. With a final wave of her wand, June bottled and corked her new creation.

Roleplay (200 words min) |

Perhaps the trick was to go back to basics. It had been a while since June had made her first tryst to the potions classroom to make a batch of bruise removal paste... Perhaps she had improved? One way to find out. She lit a medium-sized flame below her cauldron, gathering her ingredients as she allowed it to heat up for 10 minutes. She took her three murtlap tentacles and placed them into the cauldron. Somehow, much less gross than the first time she made this. Perhaps she was jaded. She poured in a jar of honey (why is it that honey always gets on your hands when you pour in?), stirred clockwise 5 times, and lifted the cauldron off of the heat.

Right, she forgot about this part. Doing her best to put all feelings into The Box (was it so bad if it was for productivity?), she measured out two fluid ounces of bubotuber pus and added it to the cauldron. No, it was still bad.

One, two, three counter-clockwise stirs of the contents[/u], then it was back to the fire with the cauldron. After a wave of June's wand, she turned the heat down, and let it sit at a low simmer.

As the mixture sat for 60 minutes, June took her shells and crushed them into a fine powder. While she did her best to be as thorough as possible, the task still didn't take an hour, and required a lot of waiting. And waiting. Why is it that time passes so slow when you wait? Finally, the hour was up, and June took 3 pinches of her powdered seashells and added them to the cauldron, along with 2 measures of flobberworm mucus. She kept the mixture over heat as she occasionally stirred clockwise. After a while, it had developed into a nice paste texture, and June waved her wand again. After the potion had cooled, she poured it into the jars she brought.

Much better.

Although they rarely had a use in her daily life, Xailah liked to keep a small stock of medical supplies on hand and in home at all times. Perhaps her nursing internship was effective in making her consider the benefits of having first aid readily available. Maybe she did it for the practice and to fill time. Both possibilities were probable. Recently, she had been revisiting her knowledge on healing potions and had the idea to brew a Star Grass Salve to brush up on what she knew. Bringing her portable alchemy station up to one of the sun rooms in her home, she began setting up her space to work.

To get the potion started, she began grinding four bushels of star grass into a silky smooth paste with the aid of a mortar and pestle. She scraped down the sides of the mortar with a clean stir stick she had laying nearby, bringing the remnants of the paste stuck to the sides of the dish down into the belly of a cauldron on standby. Two measures of balm were then combined with the star grass paste resting in the cauldron, before the cauldron was then placed on a low, consistent flame. Leaving the mixture to steep for fifteen minutes, Xailah went on to prep the rest of the ingredients needed for the salve, while she waited.

There wasn't much that needed to be prepared, just a simple aloe vera gel extraction. Picking off two leaves from a potted aloe vera plant stationed at her workspace, she proceeded to slice both fibrous leaves open and remove the clear jelly interior with a spoon; careful to avoid the edges of the leaves where most of the aloe latex could be found. The procured slime was then added to the heated cauldron containing the star grass and balm mixture and stirred seven times in a clockwise motion.

The first phase of brewing was nearly complete. Setting her empty copper cauldron in front of her, Xailah carefully lined the interior with two handfuls of fragrant rose petals and poured the slimy liquid from the size 2 cauldron into the newly prepped metal vessel. With a quick wave of her dark wood wand over the cauldrons mouth, the transfer would be complete. Now she was going to have to let it rest and ferment for seven days.

Seven days later- no earlier- no later- Xailah would find herself at her portable potion station once again. The success of the first preparation yielded a healthy fermented paste- the perfect starter for the Star Grass salve she intended to make. With steady hands, the slightly foamy salve base was poured into a standard size 2 cauldron; the rose petals were skillfully removed from the homogenous mixture with a pair of tweezers. Then the metamorph summoned a medium-low flame on her bunsen burner to preheat the cauldron with.

While the cauldron warmed up, she rolled some centaury leaves, lavender sprigs, seaweed, and peppermint leaves into a little bundle, to make chopping them up a bit easier. With some quick knifework the assorted plant fibers became nothing more than fine ribbon-like strands. Then, the herbs would join the fermented mixture of aloe, star grass, and balm, in the now warmed cauldron. To fully incorporate the herbs, she made sure to stir the mixture seven times counterclockwise. Once she could see they were well mixed, 2 measures of flobberworm mucus was drizzled into the same cauldron and stirred again.

Taking the same knife she had used for the herbs in hand and cleaning it, Xailah would use its flat side to crush four mistletoe berries on a small cutting board; effectively softening them for easier juice extraction. She scraped the juice and flesh into the cauldron with the other ingredients and immediately removed the vessel from the heat it had been sitting over. Reaching across her workspace for a few spices she had on hand, she would grab a small jar of cinnamon. She took in the warm scent before shaking out a little bit of the reddish-brown powder into the palm of her hand. Pinching a bit of it between her thumb and forefinger, it too would be sprinkled into what was hopefully turning into a salve. The potion would be stirred three times clockwise, where it was then finished off with a quick wand wave. If the consistency of the potion implied anything, it was that the potion was indeed a great success. Not that she had any doubts.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....
