║ I smiled as Devon waved me over. She was with someone who I didn't know but recognized from seeing him in the hallways. "Hello Devon, and thank you. It would be a pleasure. Now, what do you think the newest clue is? As in, what does it point to?" I racked my brains, unsure. "Perhaps a white rose?" I looked at her hopefully, hoping she agreed, also unsure of myself.
I looked around for some white roses, while still staying next to the two people obviously flirting. "Um...I know you Devon, but who are you? I'm Alice." I smiled and extended my hand to the boy, being polite. "What do you think about the clue?"
I frowned at all the magic happening around me, a girl attacking some boy with magic, and the same boy getting turned into what seemed to be a tree. I shivered, hating all the magic. Magic was unnatural and weird, and even though I was forced to use it, I hated it. Not that I was going to tell anyone that. I felt my temper and worry rising, and I forced it down saying to myself, keep it down, it's only in you head, again and again. I had stopped the emotions from revealing themselves now, but I was sure more would come, and I would end up being extremely mad and doing something stupid this afternoon and night. I was completely sure.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
"Yes, my first ball. A little excited. I had a hard time deciding on the color of my hair, but that's okay. By the way nice too meet you too Alejandro. It was good to know that at least I won't be alone at the prom."
She smiled and her hair turned slightly green. When she realized this, she immediately made it white again.
"Have you ever been to prom? I guess nothing different like this happened."
Having said this, she reviewed the riddle again. She had just tried her luck before. It was obvious that the answer was the Honking daffodil. If you wanted to hide something, it would be hidden in a place that would attract the least attention. In other words, it would not attract as much attention in the yellowest and presumably noisier bush. She looked around and opened his ears. She saw a bush that he thought was yellower and louder than the others. She grabbed Alejandro's other hand, the hand that didn't have the mouse on her shoulder, and went to the bush.
"If you want to hide something, you hide it somewhere unnoticed or somewhere unthinkable. This is one of the best storage methods"
She immediately put her mouse on the ground and excitedly started looking for the bush and then started digging the ground. Vick helped her with this. She couldn't see herself, but she thought her hair had turned light pink with excitement.

To be fair when he started this school he really didn't know that he'd be doing stuff like this. So when he was freaking out and sending owls out like crazy trying to figure out what to wear, you really couldn't blame him. That being said when his allowance started dwindling down, he knew he was going to get an owl from his grandfather.
He had spent a whopping 100 galleons in the end, from paying for various outfits, most of which he sent back, changing the clothing in many different ways, from adding on designs to removing them.
Ernest might have been a little obsessed, but this was the first event he'd ever been to. He felt like if he did not look decent now, he would forever be remarked as someone not worth looking at. His grandfather did not share the same sentiment, telling him that he would only get so much added if he continued to take away.
So in the end, Ernest dressed up in a green suit that had faux leaves trailing down its sleeves, dress shoes with faux gold leaves on the toes, and a metal mask with gold and lead designs. For its price, he thought it was rather night.
When the letters came in and said that they must meet down near the training pitch first, he was confused. The ball was supposed to be magnificent so why was it down on the pitch? He walked down there and just hoped that he wouldn't get muddy or dirty somehow before he could meet with his secret pen pal.
Speaking of them, he wondered what they would look like, he couldn't help it. Were they a boy or a girl, Slytherin, or one of the other houses? Did he perhaps know them, or were they someone he had never even glanced at before? Curiosity ate him up.
When he finally made it down to where the ball goers were, he realized they were looking for something. A clue?
Oh, a scavenger hunt. This reminded him just of his Club, a smile gracing his features. He honestly did not really want to look more so, he observed those around him. His eagerness to see his pen pal outweighs any real care for this event by itself. However, he was always open to a little interaction.

Malin jumped at the sudden cry of the howler.
The serene white of these plants
Are used to adorn the garden spread
Like an oyster's treasure, strung into a necklace
Around a lady's neck
She had not needed to ponder the riddle long before River spouted an answer.
"It's a pearlbush I believe, pearls are found in oysters and are typically made into jewelry such as necklaces. Let's search over there." River stated.
Malin smiled praisingly at her friend, following her to the pearlbushes. She tapped the pearlbush delicately with her foot, toes pointed and testing it out as if it were going to jump at her.
"It's a magical school filled with magical people and plants that try to eat your hair," She explained, remembering her Herbology class where a plant had quite literally tried to eat her hair, "You can never be too careful."
She examined the pearlbushes, admiring how pretty they were. They didn't seem to have a taste for hair, which made Malin like them even more.
Malin wished she had a solution to River's hunger, but all she had were Tic-Tacs in a hidden pocket on her dress.
"Tic-tac?" Holding the palm-sized plastic box out, she offered River the tiny watermelon-flavoured candy.

As she pulled back from kissing his cheek, she caught sight of something that surprised her almost as much as it delighted her. Simon was blushing! It had been a while since she had seen him blush, or been the cause behind his blush, but it always suited him when he did. He might hate the adjective that came to her mind, but adorable would be it. Then when she thought that could not get any better, he surprised her with his own bold comment back, and she felt her own blush blooming heat and color to her cheeks.
“Please do keep an eye on the situation. I am counting on it!” and she laughed gaily as she reached for his hand amidst the cacophony of honking daffodils doing what honking daffodils do. “This seems to me to be a job that may just as easily be done with two hands instead of four,” and she squeezed his hand three times just as a commotion was heard behind them and off to their side. Someone had found a box with a key? Sadly, no. It only contained another clue.
“Drat. Looks like this is going to go on for a while,” she whispered to him as another clue was to direct them to more flowers. When they heard it, they both smiled and turned to each other and together said, "A Rose." In unison, almost everyone headed for the rose bushes, themselves included, but neither she nor Simon seemed to be too much in a hurry to do so. They were too busy talking to each other with their eyes rather than using them to search for boxes and clues and keys.
Upon finally reaching some rose bushes, she casually reached down to move the flowers by touching only the flowers themselves and not the stems. Then two thoughts hit her almost simultaneously. The first one screamed in her mind ‘Thorns’ and she hurriedly looked around them as people looked to be a little less than careful as they handled the roses. She did not want a bunch of thorn pricks bringing on drops of blood that would be yet another desire Simon would have to sublimate. Her second thought was that she just honestly did not want to snag her dress or dirty it. While she deeply appreciated the fun of a treasure hunt and the clues, her mind was definitely not on the game at hand. She would rather just be at the Masquerade proper and dancing in Simon’s arms right about now.
Just as she was about to suggest they go steal some kisses behind a tree, a Howler yelled out the next clue for everyone to hear. That was an easy one. She had seen the pearlbush as they had walked up to the staging area just a few minute ago. And as before, people started migrating en masse toward the focal white flora of the moment.
Turning her full attention to her date, she smiled and started to tug his hand as she stepped backwards, in the opposite direction almost everyone else was heading. Moving her eyes from his, she tracked down to his succulent lips and held her focus there as she spoke. “If it is all the same to you, if I have to do some searching to get into this Masquerade, I think my preferred spot for looking for treasure rests behind any grouping of trees just behind me... once you are there, of course... and the only thing I need to find what I am looking for is two pair of lips.”
Her eyes slowly moved back to his and the message being conveyed was definitely not subtle.
“Care to join me?”

Magical Masquerade: The entrance

Meenauh's intimidation, though at this point purely acted-on rather than genuine, was slowly melting down, as she was experiencing the instant reaction to her wishes from her partner. She was not used to this, she was the one quick-to-act and others were usually not that fast to respond.
"Maybe you'd like to test his boundaries?" her inner Slytherin self has spoken for the first time for a long time now. And a playful smirk appeared on Meenauh's face. She wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do, the proper thing to do, especially at an event like that. Event, meaning the fact that they've appeared together after not interacting in reality for half a year.
Meenauh was actually surprised of how she allowed herself to cling upon Jack's arm, completely removing all usual physical boundaries. She often used instant unexpected touch when she needed to disturb a person's stance, but this was different. This was a natural thing. She hooked onto his arm as if they were used to walking like that. Dangerous. She realised that only at the moment he was speaking, and they were standing there. Too late of a realisation, though.
The boy was clearly in the offence mode — a conquest he set up for himself. Even though his comments were unbelievably cliché, they had power nevertheless. Meenauh smiled uncontrollably and lowered her eyes. Are there many people around that were ready to do anything for her?
At this moment she felt the released arms turning into hands, as one slid down her waist in a sort of confident movement, which meant he wanted to lead her. She made a few steps, internally frozen in trying to comprehend what was happening and happening fast. The timely narrowing of the space between them only rocketed her confusion, but fortunately the boy began to raise his question, and she found a way to turn the tide.
She took his hand that was on her waist with her opposite hand, and in a swift rotation of her delicate figure created more space in between them. She was now holding his right hand with her left hand (well, more likely she allowed to hold her palm), standing a few steps away and smiling.
"Let's find out?" she replied to the question, and made a tiny bow forward, clearly signalling that his question changed the flow in their dynamics, that they couldn't wait until the key is found. The dancing shall start immediately.
Disregarding whether there was music around or not, a waltz was about to commence and Jack had no way out of it.
Action: None.
Preparing to waltz around, mildly open to interactions.

He had to laugh as the students all converged on the yellow flowers and the decibel level grew. It was not just coming from the flowers. It was the ensuing raising of voices to be heard over the noise of the daffodils that added to the din. He had heard about honking daffodils, but he had never experienced them before. They were actually kind of fun and delightful, in moderation.
Stephen was, at best, giving cursory attention to looking for the key. His thoughts kept drifting to EmmaLeee. This was already not going as planned and he was trying to quell the negative feelings threatening to rise up. They had, or was it he had, wanted the fun of searching each other out in their costumes. Being bunched together at the entry made it more likely that the fun in their (his?) plan would be anticlimactic before it had a chance to even begin. The fact that he was even now questioning whether the idea was a shared one or was him imposing his wants on her made him uncomfortably uneasy. Maybe he, without meaning to or wanting to, determined more than he should, how things would be between them. Not good if so; definitely not good. Maybe that was really the source of EmmaLee’s unhappiness when it came to him?
Sigh
He really did not know and standing here amongst noisy flowers was getting him no closer to important answers. He was quite relieved when he heard some excited chatter and learned that someone had found a box and in it was a not a key, but another clue. That told him a lot. He had wondered if they were all to find their own key, but if that had been the case, many more students, by now, surely would have found them and would have gone to open the gate to gain entry. The fact that another clue was disseminated meant this was a “shared” experience and not everyone necessarily had to participate in the search in order to gain entry.
When he heard the new clue, he chuckled. Of course the answer would be a rose. The only flower he could safely recognize without need of a reference photo. As students began to abandon the yellow daffodils for the red roses, Stephen decided he would park himself in the deep shade of a grouping of trees and study the crowd, looking for EmmaLee.
There were a lot of students here now, but the moment he made a concerted effort to find her, it took him next to no time to do so. A smile curved his lips and he watched as she interacted with friends. He’d never gotten much of a chance to do that. Kiernan was too sullen to participate in any friendly way and he had been caught up in his own thing too often at Pirate camp to take notice of her interactions with others back then. Then his face burned a little with shame as he recalled bursting upon her at last Fall’s Festival of Lights completely unaware (or uncaring?) that she was speaking with another girl she knew. All he remembered at the time was being anxious to see her, but that still was all about his wants.
Wow. When he stopped to think on it, his list of rude transgressions were growing longer by the second. Not the least of which was kissing her, you dunderhead, and not really speaking of it again.
Looking at her now though, EmmaLee seemed happy. She was laughing and interacting so easily. It crossed his mind to simply turn and leave. She might have a better time if he did, but even if that was the case, it would add just one more transgression to his lengthy list. She did not need that, but she especially did not need more of that. Maybe “not showing up” was ultimately the correct answer, but was this just the wrong time to ask the question?
He slipped behind the tree entirely and turned his back to the trunk. Standing there, he focused his blue eyes on the wooded area before him, completely unaware of what he was staring at as he was debating what to do. A screeching voice bellowed out yet another clue and Stephen knew the answer had to do with pearls, but as for the plant it referred to, he was clueless.
It didn’t matter anyway. He was going to wait out this searching for key business and catch up to her at some point once the door was opened. What he was going to say to her once he did find her would have been the more helpful treasure hunt prize to him in the moment.
Finding a box with the perfect words would be mighty handy right about now.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Élodie smiled as the boy spoke in his language. Not quite understanding what he'd meant, she soon deduced he had said yes as he followed her to a nearby rose bush, halfheartedly searching when they'd gotten closer. She listened as he spoke in broken English, asking what school she was from.
"I attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic." she spoke, her French accent slightly stronger as she pronounced the school's name. "And you?" she asked, looking over at him as she paused her search. Around the duo, students frantically searched the roses, wanting to be the one who found the next clue. Another student seemed to have drastically failed a spell, another disarmed someone, and the same kid only seconds later got his feet rooted to the ground. She sighed in annoyance at the sheer impropriety of some of the students. She would be more than six feet under if she acted as they did and failed to uphold the Dubois family's reputation.
As she awaited his response, another student seemed to have found the next clue. The howler began to screech out the next clue to the participants of the treasure hunt. Élodie didn't have to do much thinking about the clue as in the next couple minutes, people were already rushing over to the next plant. A pearlbush.
As she began to slowly walk over to a pearlbush near them, she gasped softly, realizing she'd forgotten to introduce herself. "My apologies. I'm Élodie Dubios. It's a pleasure to meet you." she said, her French accent singing through once again with the pronunciation of her name as she fought muscle memory and an inner battle with herself whether to curtsy or not. After all, that was a common pureblooded custom where she came from. Élodie did not curtsy, instead continuing to slowly walk to the pearlbush she'd seen, and began to aimlessly search once more.

I dug around the Honking Daffodil bush but there was no luck. I couldn't find anything. The girl, Victoria, was also looking around in the bushes.
"Yes, my first prom. A little excited. I had a hard time deciding on the color of my hair, but that's okay. By the way nice too meet you too Alejandro. It was good to know that at least I won't be alone at the prom." she said.
The color of her hair? Did she dye it? I don't understand that part or the sentence. Ehh, best not to dwell on the things you don't understand. It was nice having someone around. Unlike the fall ball.
"Have you ever been to prom? I guess nothing different like this happened."
"Uhmm... I've been to the Fall Ball, if you can say that but there were no riddles and whatnot. You could just go into the ball and that was it." I replied
During the fall ball, I didn't save anyone, I didn't nearly drown, I was like one of those background characters you see in a movie. Though sometimes that was a good thing.
After searching more thoroughly through the bushes I still didn't find anything. I banged my fist on the ground. Then I felt Victoria's hand grab my hand and started dragging me in another direction.
"If you want to hide something, you hide it somewhere unnoticed or somewhere unthinkable. This is one of the best storage methods" she explained as we jogged over to another Honking Daffodil Bush. There she started searching and digging straight away. Her hair started turning slightly pink. That's a bit weird. I joined and started scrouging around the flower looking for the key.
Hopefully we can find something this time.
When digging, I tried to make conversation with her.
"I heard some rumors that every Ball at Hogwarts something always happen. What do you think will happen this time?" I asked curiously.

Magical Masquerade: The entrance
Willow was a shy person. She had, however, vowed to go to as many Hogwarts events as she could, so here she was at the Spring Ball. She shuffled around at the pitch, not sure exactly what to do. It appeared that people were searching bushes for something, but she was more fixated on searching for the person she was planning to meet.
Her vivid red hair was pinned neatly in a half-up style, the top in a bun of twisting strands wrapped in daisies. The rest of it tumbled down her back almost to her waist in a waterfall of shiny waves. She wore a green dress with flowers down the skirt and laces at the waist. Her mask was gilded gold and decorated with pink, yellow, and blue flowers and leaves. There was no doubt- she looked incredibly beautiful. However, she held herself with an utter lack of self-confidence.
Back to the task at hand. She scanned faces from the background, searching for her secret letter-writer. They had never met, but she knew what his mask looked like, so she hoped she would be able to find them. Oh! Was that him? She caught a glimpse of someone in a green suit wearing the mask that seemed to be the right one.
Willow walked gently over to him, hoping that she would be good enough to meet his expectations. Gosh, this was a lot harder than she thought it would be. She didn't know him, so there was no need to be nervous. She stepped up to right behind him. No reason to be nervous.
