Someone to Look Up To
Soon to meet @Paige MallaryViva was definitely, totally, one hundred percent lost. It was her first week at Hogwarts, and she was very excited and stressed at the same time. When she had learned that magic was real, and that she had the ability to use it, Viva had been awestruck with wonder and amazement. She had been so excited to come to Hogwarts and learn how to use that special magic. But she hadn't taken into account how stressful it would also be... there were so many people and so many classrooms and so many different corridors, Viva thought her brain would explode trying to remember it all.
Getting more and more scared, Viva kept walking along the corridor, peering through doorways. She was trying to get to Transfiguration class, and she had no idea where she was going. Her hand tightened nervously on her book bag, that was full of all the textbooks she needed for her first year. The corridor was dark, and Viva could see spider webs everywhere, which terrified her. People in paintings on the walls leered at the small trembling girl as she passed, making her cower in fright. I'm going to get detention during my first week, she groaned inwardly. She continued along the corridor until she began to feel hopeless, then she sat down against the cold stone wall and began to cry silently. Tears ran down her cheeks as her blue eyes sparkled because they were wet.

It was Paige's second year back at Hogwarts. She was more excited than ever. She would start her classes again. She would get to meet back up with her friends. Not that she had many...
She shoved her textbooks into her tote bag, and flung it over her shoulder. She exhaled, and began her journey to the very first class of the year. She would start the year off with Charms; a class she had both positive and negative reviews for. Mainly because it was dangerous, quite dangerous. She continued down the hallways, noticing the robes of students flowing drastically behind them. The nostalgia filled her heart with warmth. It was honestly so much better than her house. She could definitely call Hogwarts her home. She passed a few students and smiled, keeping her head relatively low. Her shyness had its disadvantages.
As she made her way around the corner of the corridor, she could hear the small sobs of a student. Paige stopped still in her tracks, unsure whether to confront the student or quickly walk past. She hated having to talk to strangers, but she wanted to help. She really did. Paige inhaled sharply and adjusted her blue tie. She peered around the corner and noticed a small girl, wearing a Hufflepuff robe, leaning up against the cracked wall, tears dripping down her smooth face. "H-hey," Paige began, trying to sound reassuring. "Are you... are you alright?"

Someone to Look Up To
Feeling quite awful about crying in front of @Paige MallaryViva jumped, startled, as she heard a voice ask if she was alright. Was she alright? No. The floor felt cold and hard underneath her, and she could hear portraits sniggering nearby. She jerked her head up, eyes wide and glistening brightly, and took in the older girl standing before her. Knowing full well that she should respond and answer the girl's question but feeling like she couldn't, Viva stayed silent. She felt like her throat had closed on itself and would never let her speak again. Blinking rapidly, her heart pounding, she continued to look up at the girl, a few tears still running down her cheeks.
After a few seconds, Viva became very embarrassed and hid her face in her lap with a small sob. I can't believe I'm being such a baby, and someone is watching me cry! It's so silly that I'm crying about not finding a class. How pathetic. She clenched her hands tightly. Trying and failing to take a breath, Viva realized she really should acknowledge the girl. She would seem very rude otherwise, and Viva absolutely hated being rude. Still not able to make out a word, she managed a small nod, head still buried in her robes.

Paige continued to look down at the girl, who still had tears dripping down her face. She stood there for a bit; hands gripped around the strap of her bag. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing seemed to want to come out. Instead, she just stood there, staring down at the girl, unsure of what to say or do. She didn't know how to react. She didn't often deal with these types of things. In fact, she would often mind her own business when it came to these types of things. However, this time was different. A new student was in trouble.
Paige bent down, dropping her black tote bag on the concrete floor. She was now level with the girl's head, except they both avoided eye contact. It would make it even more awkward than it already was. She looked around, seeing if anyone else was around. Nobody. They were alone. Paige sighed and began searching through her bag, moving the books out of the way. She fished a packet of tissues out, and pulled a square sheet out, handing it to the girl. "P-please don't cry..." she began, putting her hand on the Hufflepuff's shoulder. "It's alright, trust me. What do you need?" she asked, sounding slightly more reassuring.

Someone to Look Up To
Trying to talk to @Paige MallaryViva started a little, surprised, as the girl bent down. She looked up, and saw that the girl was handing her a tissue. Slowly, she reached out and took it, her eyes wide. Dabbing at her eyes, she stayed silent. She wiped under her eyes, drying her face and getting rid of the tears. Viva instinctively flinched as the girl put her hand on her shoulder, but relaxed as she realized she wasn't going to hurt her. Do I trust her? Viva thought as she reluctantly raised her eyes to meet the girl's. I don't know. "I - I - everything is going wrong!" She burst out with a fresh wave of tears. "I keep getting lost," Viva sniffled. "I can't find my class."
She raised her eyes again, now even more embarassed. Viva somehow felt comforted a little when she looked at the girl. For some reason, she felt like this girl would understand her. Viva felt like she had a connection to her. She blinked slowly, swallowing a lump in her throat as a few more tears raced down her cheeks. The stone floor felt cold and unfriendly, and the corridor was dark and cold. Why is this all so hard?

Sorry for the late reply, I've had no motivation!Paige opened her mouth to say something, but stopped. She didn't know whether it was the right moment, it would be awkward to break the silence, but the silence was also making it awkward. The girl continued crying, her tears forming a waterfall. Paige gulped, she wasn't good in handling these types of situations. She didn't have much experience with people, especially not strangers. She inhaled sharply before speaking up again. She raised her eyebrow, "you're a first year, right?" she asked, with slight confusion. She was ninety-nine percent sure the Hufflepuff was attending their first year at Hogwarts, but she figured she'd double check just in case. "I just don't recall seeing you around anywhere."
She looked around before shifting over to the stone wall and leaning against it, next to the girl. "It's not that bad, I mean-" she stopped, perhaps that wasn't the right wording. "What I mean is... lots of people get lost. Hogwarts is a big school; it only makes sense! I'm sure tons of other students are in the same situation as you," She bit her lip before reaching over for her tote bag. "Uhm, d-do you know what room your class is in?" she asked, preparing to stand up. She dusted off her skirt and fixed her blue tie, waiting for an answer.![]()

Speech: #5F9EA0Trying to answer @Paige MallaryTears were interesting things. They were raw, and messy, and honest. They were painful, but healing at the same time. Tears were cleansing, they helped to wash everything away. Sometimes they felt like light rain, sometimes like a roaring river. People thought they were a sign of weakness, but they didn't have to be. Crying could also be a sign of openness, of emotional release, of courage, of purification. Tears truly were remarkable things. And as Viva felt the light trickle run down her cheeks, she looked into the girl's deep brown eyes. "Yes, I'm a first year," she said very quietly. She reached up one small hand to scrub away at her wet face. She blinked as the girl sat down next to her. She scooted closer, wanting comfort but not knowing how to ask for it.
She looked at the girl again, trying to figure out why she was being so nice. Surely this would make her late for her class, too, and yet she was choosing to help someone she didn't even know. Viva felt a rush of warmth in her heart for this girl. Struggling to her feet as well as the girl stood up, Viva continued rubbing her tears away under her swollen eyes as she leaned against the wall to keep her balance. "N-no," she choked out in reply to the girl's question as a fresh wave of sadness came over her. What in the world? Why was she being this emotional over such a small problem? Things had just been hard lately, what with the issues with her father and with this whole new experience with magic. "I'm trying to find Ch-charms," she said softly.

Sorry for the late reply, I've had no motivation!Paige looked down at the first year with sympathetic eyes. She could remember her first year at Hogwarts - humiliated, anxiety coursed through her body. She knew very well how the girl sitting before her felt, so it was only right that Paige would help her out. If Paige was in the young Hufflepuff's shoes, she would have been too distraught to even ask for help. Probably why she wasn't sorted into Gryffindor.
For Paige, she couldn't tell who was more nervous. Sure, the first year was lost and was probably in a scarier atmosphere than her, but Paige couldn't help but feel on edge to talk to the girl, let alone show her to her classroom. What if she panicked and forgot her way around the castle? Or what if she tripped and fell?
As she sat next to the girl, Paige looked down at her worn-out shoes and fiddled with the laces. She was already late for her Potions class, and now the decision was up to her. Would she be even later to class and risk detention if it meant she got the opportunity to help a first year out? Or was it best to just go to class and forget about all this. Afterall, Paige had never told the girl her name. No, that wasn't the right thing to do.
She stood up and watched as the Hufflepuff did the same. "Ok, uhm-" she began, trying to find her voice. "Charms, right... ok uhm- I believe your class... is..." she sighed, figuring there was no point verbally telling the girl where her class was. "Here, I can take you to it... that is if you want?" she let out a soft smile, and swung her tote bag around her shoulder, waiting for a response.![]()
