Radiant Raizel pv Finished

EmmaLee nodded, her own expression turning from friendly to fierce determination. It didn't matter too much which spell she shot towards her opponent this time, another good reason to make it a spar. She wasn't looking to win. To be honest, she wasn't even looking too much to hit Raizel at all, though she would not dishonor a person like Raizel by not trying to. She just needed to focus on taking the hit the other duelist threw at her. She just needed to remain standing and not tap out after two hits.

Almost at the same time Raizel threw her flipendo, EmmaLee cast and shot her own. Although she heard her spell land, she didn't see it as Raizel's hit her square in the chest and annoyingly knocked her onto her butt. So much for staying on her feet. At least it didn't hurt as bad this time so there was something to her and Raizel's ideals about pain and gain.

She chuckled a little as she pushed herself back onto her feet and took position again. "So much for staying on my feet." She teased herself, but loud enough for Raizel to know she was talking to her. "Although, it didn't 'urt as much as the other day, so that's a win." She said with a smile, going back to her concentrated gaze for another round.

Maybe she would use this as an opportunity to practice some of the other spells in her arsenal. She was a little less apt to use the more supportive spells because she didn't see how they would really be helpful in an actual duel aside from a fun party trick to distract her opponent. Maybe they actually helped.

Both parties have agreed to a sparring match where each spell's hit or miss are chosen randomly by Discord before each "round's" post and then roleplayed. A miss will be rolled as a spell fail or a miss.
First duelist to get three hits on the other will "win".
No abilities will be used.

Okay, perhaps her bad luck is starting to act up again considering the next thing that happened. Her spell didn’t miss but rather it failed to be produced. Despite saying the incantation clearly and making the right want movement, there was nothing but a small flash followed by nothing. It was just a simple Knockback Jinx that she was trying to do and this was one of those rare times that she failed to cast that spell and just when she was feeling confident too.

Her luck had always been like this. The moment she starts feeling better, it always comes to drag her back to darkness that she’s desperately trying to escape. “Was wondering when that’ll happen.” she uttered. In a way, she was expecting for failure to come anytime now but not this early on during the practice. Eyes on her wand and then her target who was getting back up on her feet. “If you’re already feeling less pain from strong spells like that then yes, this practice is working splendidly.” she told her. Flipendo is one of those spells that pack a punch, a staple in duelling especially at the early years where one's spell list isn’t that vast yet.

“Try to stay on your feet next time though, stand firm.” She can’t believe that she’s giving duelling advice right now cause she swears it felt like it was only yesterday when she was the one being given advice here, in this very place. It was sad to think that she couldn’t put those good lessons into proper use during her first official duel. So much effort she put into preparation yet it wasn’t enough.

Well, either this was the reason not to use supportive spells or she just needed to practice more.

EmmaLee waved her wand and said the incantation, she thought right, and for whatever reason the bubbles she had intended to become barrier between herself and Raizel just fizzled out of her wand in a stream of foam. The pale girl frowned as she looked over to Raizel, who seemed to be having similar problems with her own spell as she looked down despondently at her own failing wand.

EmmaLee's frown deepened as Raizel's face fell further. She had hoped a sparring match would strengthen Raizel's confidence as well as hers, but that didn't seem to be the way things were going. She nodded at Raizel's advice and planted her heels firmly as she readied her wand for the next round of spells. "Maybe we don't count that round." She said with a dry chuckle. "We both seem a bit wobbly, yes?"

It made EmmaLee sad to see someone she liked so much be so down about herself. She found herself wishing that she could do more to bolster the other girl's confidence in herself. The thought of failing her spells on purpose so Raizel could "win" flashed across her mind for a mere instance before she banished it to the depths. That would be a complete disservice to the Gryffindor. EmmaLee was firm in her own belief that a win was not a win unless rightfully earned. If anything, the French girl had a duty to do her best no matter how conflicted she felt about getting herself into this position.

She felt like her own win a few days ago had been a fluke on her part, only accomplished because she had good teammates. She doubted she could hold her own in a real one of one duel. Especially if one Flipendo knocked her on her butt.

Disappointing is an understatement, pathetic is the right word. This was only a practice and here she is doing so bad and can't even cast a simple Knockback Jinx. How awful really, giving her some hope in the beginning before crushing it at the end by failing everything. She should've learned her lesson, she should've… that after a taste of success, what follows after is a series of failures. “No, just keep at it.” As much as she would like for that round not to count, she can't deny the fact that she failed.

She was confident that her spellcasting wouldn't be this bad. Like mentioned earlier, this rarely happens especially when it's just as simple as a knockback jinx but surprise surprise, looks like her spellcasting needed some work even after her continuous training. This is a bad sign, kind of telling her how her next duel will go and it is opening her eyes on things that she couldn't see and accept, her incompetence. With her so lost in her head, the spell coming for her had gone unnoticed and it was only when she felt the impact on her body, followed by the uncontrollable sneezing that she came back to her senses.

“Certainly unexpected…” she uttered before sneezing once again, pointing her wand at herself. “Finite-” And she couldn't even finish the spell as she found herself sneezing once again. This is not just her day but at least she's helping someone gain some confidence at the expense of her own. That's a lot better, gives EmmaLee a brighter future than hers that she knows is filled with nothing. The second cast of the Counter-charm however was brilliantly cast and the effects of Steelus stopped. It's one of those traps that she kept falling into. A sliver of hope that she desperately holds on to but soon enough, it'll escape from her grasp in the most depressing way, keen on keeping her down on the ground.

Raizel shook her head, forcing a smile on her face. “Alright. Keep going, you're doing great. And well, I was kind of expecting things to go sour on my part but don't let that stop you. Give me your best shot.” she told her. She could endure the pain, not just from the spells but from her breaking confidence as well. She had been enduring it ever since that horrible performance last duelling stage. She has lasted this long, she can still keep up that strong facade until the second stage of the official duels. That duel will determine her final decision: Whether she stays in the team or not. Perhaps, she had already made up her mind though and is simply looking for an excuse to make that final.

Well, the sneezing jinx at least had been effective in encumbering her opponent. EmmaLee tried to hold in a giggle as Raizel erupted into a series of sneezes, rendering it difficult to cast the spell to make it stop. Admittedly, EmmaLee still liked the punch and laughter that came with the tickling jinx much more than the sneezing jinx, she knew better as a strategist though to make that any kind of signature move. She got lost for just a moment in figuring out a strategy for the sneezing jinx before being pulled out of it by Raizel's continued encouragement.

EmmaLee nodded and planted her feet once again, ready for the next flipendo from Raizel that she prayed to the ladies, for Raizel's sake, would come. EmmaLee's guilt at the other girl's disappointment soured the acid in her stomach. Maybe this hadn't been a good idea after all. She had done the exact opposite of what she had hoped for in approaching this particular person. While it had been great practice for herself, their match had only seemed to upset Raizel further and hadn't done almost anything for the other girl's benefit.

EmmaLee raised her wand, determined to give Raizel that best shot. If it hit and the spar was over, maybe they could do something less competitive.... away from the dueling club.

As always, the results weren't in her favor. Never once, never did. What is success really? It's been so long since she had a taste of it. While her last spell had decided to work for her sanity, she already knew it was too late for a winner had already been declared the moment EmmaLee's spell landed on her. Not once did her balance falter despite the pain which is probably the only good thing that happened.

She was supposed to be dishing out hits after hits since it was EmmaLee's resilience that's being tested here yet the opposite happened. It was her that got hit quite a lot, adding more to the pile of disappointment that she already has. Pushing those thoughts aside for now to deal with later, she changed her stance into a less… duel ready one, rubbing right where it hurts from those spells. This is usually where her sparring partner would rush her to the hospital wing but lucky for her, there's no need for it unless the nurse has some treatment for shattered confidence and passion.

“And that's that I supposed.” she couldn't hide the disappointment this time despite the smile on her face yet she still tries to. “Guess I'm not really the best for this. My apologies.” She told the Hufflepuff. “Didn't get to test out how sturdy you are… considering that only two of my spells hit you.” The Gryffindor slowly made her way to where she set her robe and satchel, picking them up and slinging both of those over her shoulder. “Maybe there's a better duellist out there that can help test you out.” Not only did she fail to gain something in this practice but she failed to give EmmaLee the test that she wanted. “I'll take my leave now. Keep practicing. You're already doing great.”

With that said, Raizel started making her way towards the door, giving the Hufflepuff one last pat on the shoulder as she passed by her. Where she will end up, that she doesn't know. She'll let her feet take her to wherever corner it may lead her. Another senseless wandering for someone that just wanted to give things some thoughts, to take in the failures that she just experienced and pile them up along with the rest.

EmmaLee skidded a little, but finally did not fall as Raizel's spell hit her full in the chest. Little consolation for the sour way the duel had gone. EmmaLee frowned as she fully righted herself and turned her white wand over in her hands. "Yes. I suppose that is that." She echoed Raizel's sentiment, looking at the girl sadly as she struggled to hide her disapointment. EmmaLee let her own run full tilt across her face. This was not the way she had wanted this spar to go.

"There is no need to apologize." She said, feebly. "I 'ave clearly made some improvement and it was a rather quick spar." EmmaLee watched the other girl as she gathered her things and headed out. She was at a loss for what to say about anything to maybe help Raizel feel better. Her heart fell to the absolute bottom of her chest as Raizel gave her an encouraging? pat on the shoulder as she walked towards the door. This was not how she had wanted the encounter with Raizel to go.

"For what it's worth, I still think you're a great witch." She said sadly as the door closed behind Raizel with a final kind of thud. EmmaLee moved to gather her own things, not really wanting to practice any more, despite Raizel's praise towards her skills. This is not how she wanted this to go.

For some reason, she felt like some final nail in a coffin. Her goal had been to boost both she and someone she admired and she had failed rather spectacularly in the endeavor. Even her usual shining optimism couldn't shove away the cloud of dread that rained down on her. So much for that friendship. Why world Raizel ever want to speak to her after this? What reason would she have anyway?

EmmaLee gathered her things as slowly as possible to give Raizel time to flee from her and then exited the dueling club as well, heading back to her room where she buried her face in Minx's soft fur and tried not to feel like the worst person alive.
