Elena winced at the smell of the burning backpack, and took a look around. The hat trick had almost worked and was worth a second try. Maybe someone could be found willing to work together.

Rowan was going well on his own, so not him. One of the Slytherin prefects had tried singing to them so maybe her, and Luna set her bag on fire, oof, Elena might bring her a spare. Alan was taking care of her though. Jangles was working well on her own too, no need to steal that glory. So Elena picked Nico.

“Hi.” Elena said softly, “I had an idea how to catch them, if you want to work together. You get them like a spider with the glass and paper, except with a hat instead of a glass. Seeing as we’re low on glass. All you’d need to do is warm up some rocks to bring them in.”

Nico was still busy almost faceplanting, trying to lure the Moke in her hands. But so far the lizard was too intrigued by ... nothing. The Slytherins breathing was slowing down, becoming heavier... She was falling asleep. So peaceful... Outside on the grass, the sun on her skin. She could see the neighbouring cat, hopping over to her. 'Aah.. Sweet little fluffball.. Let me pet yo-'

“Hi.”

Wh-! Her shoulders shrugged shortly as the voice pulled her out of the nearly-nap. Quickly remembering where she was, Nico slowely sat up, straightening her back as she groaned. Turning to face the source of the napintruder. It was a Slytherin student that had approached her. Her face was familiar. Blue hair, kind of rebellious look... As tired as she had become from being so close to peaceful slumber, Nico had to think hard... Nope. She didn't know. Maybe it would come to her later.

The girl proposed to work together. Hm... Maybe that wasn't such a bad idea. Nico was a little weary of things done in group. She had to trust the other one... It made her nervous but she kept her cool. Without saying much Nico nodded, rubbing her eyes. Oof, that was close. What would've the Professor said if he saw her napping in the middle of class.

'So...' Nico spoke softly. 'I d-don't know any fire spells. Can... you do that?' Slightly embarassed, she rubbed her elbow.

@Alan Vanes Alan successfully heats up the rock with incendio, but as he arranges them he accidentally knocks it a bit. As it turns out, his incendio was a lot stronger than expected because the rock splits into thirds with a loud CRACK. All nearby mokes scatter. There may have been a little bit of shrapnel, but nothing dangerous, that's up to you guys.
Roll: 9 Exploding rock check (11-20 exploding, 10-1 safe) 19

@Nico Shymane Nico's hands were warm enough for one of the mokes to move to within about 6 inches of it, but then apparently something tipped the moke off, as it just started to stare at the hands, almost as if it knew that this was a trap.
Roll: 11

@Phaedra Stavrou The moke, inside the bag, decides to just stay shrunk and hide in a corner until it figures out what's going on. There is no discernible movement from inside the bag, or from outside the bag nearby, however the moke is safely inside of the bag.
Roll: 11

@Serena Towers The moke was scrambling, and when Serena started to turn her glove inside out in grew back to it's full size as a means of getting at least it's head out of the trap, and then trying to nip the hufflepuff's now unprotected hand. However, it was still mostly inside the glove.
roll: 10

@Rowan Bane The moke, decided that the snack was, after all, worth it, clambers up the rest of the way and starts to nibble on some of the potion ingredients in the boy's lap, warming itself a little bit using the meagre amount of warmth radiating from his legs
Roll: 18

Some of the students were having a lot of luck. Rowan, for example, had a lizard in his lap, although the professor wasn't sure what the boy planned to do about it. Ms. Towers was struggling with a lizard in her hands, and the ravenclaw girl was staring at a backpack, probably trying to determine if there was actually a moke inside or if she was just going to make a fool of herself by holding down an empty bag.

There was a loud crack from over by the Vanes kid, which wasn't all that surprising. A lot of rocks popped when you heated them up too fast. It wasn't super dangerous, but it was loud and surprising. Not the best conditions in which to catch you moke. Absently, Griffith wondered to himself what they would like for the next event. Maybe if his friend, Perthyn Wendigo was feeling up for it, they could take turns flying?

He was entertaining the idea until he realized that it word got out he let kids ride on the back of Perthyn, the Slytherin's Head of House would descend on the stables with an eviction notice, bringing with her enough smugness to fuel the world's population of celebrities 10 times over. Maybe flobberworms. Kids liked flobberworms.

“If this is a complaint would you mind sending it with an owl? It's easier to ignore."

"Ah, they must've changed the herbology curriculum for your class. Mine was still with Professor Wright." Elena said and got her wand out of her cloak, "Not to worry, I learned incendio, so we should be fine. I'm Elena by the way, Elena Jones."

Ash wood and unicorn hair, the clingiest wand in existence. Literally nobody else could use it without getting rejected. It was somehow the most loyal wand Elena could have ended up with and she loved it, loyalty is a rare commodity after all, especially it seemed, among the Gryffindors of the school.

Elena found a nice grouping of stones and attempted to warm them, "Incendio."

A smile appeared on his lips as Rowan glanced down at the moke. Now he would have to take a risk, sadly. It was either that, or the moke would simply finish the food and probably scramble away. Though he was warm so...

Either way, his options were as such. Do nothing, and risk the moke going away with nothing gained. However it may stay because he was warmer than the rest of it’s little world right now. Next option was attempt to pet it. He wanted to pet it really badly, though he knew that was a poor option. Likely it would just run away. Though if he was slow enough, and if the food and warmth were enticing enough, it may stay. Last option was go for more food, and possibly a container from the empty ingredients. Smartest option, as it had a lower risk than just flat out petting the creature, and higher reward than just letting it sit there.

Rowan slowly reached into his bag, careful not to move the hand the creature was eating out of. He felt around for a moment, before he closed his hand around a pouch. The crickets! His father had sent them to him as a peace offering and a snack, which he obviously didn’t care about, however they would be useful.

Rowan pulled a small handful out and offered it to the creature, still moving slow as to not frighten it.

Often lying, but not to you.

Nico looked up at her and smiled softly, still abit shy. Elena Jones. ...E-lena.. Jonesss...
A light switched on in her head. Ofcourse. They once met at a Halloween party for a very brief moment but... Now that she knew her name, she remembered. Nico wasn't sure how to adress that they met before so.. she figured she could just start over.

'I-I'm Nico. Nico Shymane.'

She rubbed her elbow, silly old habit of hers when she felt nervous. 'I'll hold the hat ready.' Nico carefully moved aside from the rocks Elena had collected. Kneeling down beside the pile, she held the hat ready with both hands. No Moke would escape her fast reflexes. Years of anxiety make you more aware and sharp. Her eyes fixated on the cosy warm rocks, she almost felt entranced. Her body waiting like a predator, ready to strike. She imagined the lions she saw on television on saturday morning. Built for killing. The zebra saw it coming but tripped and didn't manage to escape the long mighty claws. It was kinda sad to see but... dad said that's how nature is. C R U E L.

Nico blinked, pulling herself back from the memory. Again fully focussed on the task at hand.

Serena stared at the glove that she held in her hands. The moke inside it was scrambling to get out but... she had actually caught one. It had tried to get out by resizing to its usual size but she had actually caught it within her glove. She could, in theory, just rush over to the Professor with the glove before it jumped out and show him. The Professor would love her for that, right? He could even tell her mother how great she was and how well she was doing. It would finally get her mother off her case.

But she did not do that. She stared at the moke. A sharp hiss was audible from her mouth as it bite her but she did not let go. She had no idea how many times it had attempted to nip her or how many times it was successful. Serena was too busy staring at the little creature desperately trying to get out of the trap. It tried to bite her hand some more, doing everything it could to cling itself to the freedom that it once knew.

She understood that pain all too well.

Students around her all tried their best to capture one of the mokes. Serena tore her head from the glove and the creature within it to look around. She noticed several Gryffindors and Slytherins casting incendio of all things. After everything that happened at the Hufflepuff Camp Out, people were still allowed to cast that spell? It baffled her, honestly. How little Professors cared for the students baffled her. Some students looked like they were working together, others alone but... everyone was doing what they could to capture these creatures simply because an old scruffy looking man told them to do so?

Realisation dawned on her slowly.

She could not quite place why but she knew something was wrong about this. The second year looked at the moke, "Okay okay, you win..." She said softly as she started to lower the glove towards the floor, "I'm sorry little guy... I shouldn't have... Yeah... I'm sorry," She continued to whisper, deciding that the moke was a male one even though she had absolutely no idea, "There, out you go," The Hufflepuff released her grasp on the glove and opened it up to allow the moke to escape to its freedom. "You're free to go, my friend," She continued, no longer wanting a part in capturing them. If Professor Griffith wanted to tell her off for not listening to his instructions or not taking part in the task, he could. Serena no longer cared what he thought of her. She would do what she thought was right. And using fire or traps to capture free animals for no reason other than fun seemed dumb to her.

She released the moke but left her hand nearby. If it wanted to bite her some more as revenge, she would take it. She deserved that for hurting him in the first place. The Hufflepuff did not move, however. She was worried that she had accidentally hurt him when she captured him so she decided to wait to see if he looked hurt or could freely escape. Once she knew the moke was safe, she would leave.

Interacting with Professor Griffith
Phaedra determined that she must have caught the moke after all. There was no other presence that she could see on the outside. She flipped the bag over and kept its opening sealed with one hand as gently as she could to avoid throwing the creature around— despite the professor saying they were apparently quite durable, animals didn’t deserve that treatment. Slowly, she stood up on both feet and dusted herself off, then focused on her trap again.

She pulled her hands apart and took a peek inside. Squinting, she didn’t want to keep the bag open for too long in the instance the moke would jump out, and quickly closed it back. The brightness out made it easier to see within the bag’s folds but mokes were practically ant-sized, and this one, in particular, was stubborn. Phaedra looked around for Griffith. Upon spotting him, she called out, “Excuse me, Professor Griffith...” The girl didn’t want or need help from him, but perhaps he could make the lizard grow back to size or something. There was a lot of anticipation in her voice. "I think I may have caught one."

Sure enough, the spell starts to attract a few of the curious little things. She watches as the ground near her grows increasingly hot, almost alluring in a sense. Her sense of success takes a soar when a bunch of the mokes began creeping forward, their interest peaked by the mysterious heat source that just apppeared out of nowhere. One daring guy seemed to be more confident than the other edging forward just a bit, still cautious but he probably was the one that if lucky, would be the caught moke. She had to plan it perfectly however, a mistep and the mokes would scatter like bugs. That was the question though, she had lured them in, now how to actually trap the things?

Wait a minute.."She glanced down at the cloak she was wearing and back at the creature content with not coming any further. She had never thought she would find any use for the garment other than protecting against the forces of nature. Making slow motion as if not to startle the creature, with her free hand, the prefect removes her cloak letting it dangle from her hand thinking out a plan in her head. Alternatively, she could set the cloak aflame and lure them in that way but that seemed rather drastic. Otherwise, she could just fling the fabric and hope the moke somehow gets tangled up in the cloth. Elena sighs inwardly to herself as she prepares to do perhaps the most foolish idea however. If this works...there is no way this could possibly..."Without even finishing the thought, the girl throws the cloak towards the moke her eye following to see where it would land. It wasn't that far off but still, one miss and her chance at catching one was gone. All that work down the drain. She prayed silently urging her trusted cloak to land on top of one of the animals.

[quote]The rock just exploded. It exploded into tiny bits of shrapnel, making the second year flinch and take a few careful steps back. Well that did not go as he had planned it to go and he was frustrated… not only because it didn't work but also because all the Mokes in that area shrunk and fled away.

A sigh escaped him a few bits of shrapnel hitting his legs but leaving jo damage except maybe a few sore places, but his pants stopped from making any cuts or damage on actual skin. He turned to Luna and gave an apologetic yet sheepish smile.

”Any other idea? I think we should switch locations and maybe I dunno… do you have any food?”

He spotted a shadowy place and pointed there. "Let's see if some are hiding there?"
