The shrill tone sounded, the game began and it wasn't long before it got brutally out there. Bludgers were flying all over Haley and it was hard to catch everything and make sure you didn't get hit by the broom. Meanwhile, Slytherin managed to score 40 points and Gryffindor... well 0. Haley blamed herself for this. It was her job and she failed within the first few minutes. Before she could refocus and give it her all, she saw not just one or two fly off their broom, no there were four in total. One by one, the wizards and witches were swept off their brooms. Haley winced at the sight. Pax and Ethan were hit hard. But it wasn't just from their team, Slytherin also suffered the loss of two players and one of them was her good friend Cassandra. It was a split second before the reflex struck to catch her. To fly off with the broom and catch them, but in another split second Haley remembered that this was Quidditch. And Cassandra was the opponent at that moment. It was hard and she really hoped them would recover quickly but this was Quidditch and everyone knew what they were getting into.

Alex was watching the game, as all the quaffles where getting thrown around. Sadly it appeared as if Slytherin was in the lead, managing to score 40 points on the Gryffindor team. Alex watched with wide eyes, and a dropped jaw as every beater on the field was knocked off there brooms. Not just the one's on his team, but the opposing ones as well. All the body's falling from the sky, landing on the ground. Made him a bit queasy, but he took a deep breath, straitened up, and flew onto the pitch. Taking his place as the back-up beater. It was why he was there really.

Not once, not even once did he manage to grab the quaffle. @Haley Rose wasn't faring much better and he knew she was just as frustrated as him. They weren't bad players, they put in the work every training, but @Koko Riddle was simply better. He came close on occasion, but coming close didn't count. At least @Ashleigh Hazelwood managed to stop one Quaffle from going through the hoops, little solace though it was. If it had been just @Maggie Hawkins out there, the scoreboard might've looked a lot more balanced. She was a proper little menace and clinging just a little too closely to @June Selwyn's side for his liking, but there was little to be done about that now.

He hadn't counted on Koko playing forward as a Chaser, but she demonstrated her versatility as a player for all to see. Not too long ago, Finnegan had learned that scouts sometimes attended the Hogwarts Quidditch games to spot new talent. Surely, contracts were already being drawn up by money men looking to recruit Ms. Riddle and Ms. Ryan, though the latter's reputation was diminished somewhat by the work of @Pax Zhang and @Ethan Smith. Between goals, he looked around for them, turning just in time to see streaks of green and red plummet toward the ground. Smith and Zang, at it again, going down in style. If anyone on the team deserved a pay raise, it was surely them. Best not to think too much on their rough landings.

At least Erin was down too, having been turned into a falling star by Zhang and Smith's combined skill. Falling stars merited a wish didn't they? He made a quick one in the privacy of his mind.

And what of @Elsian Cox? The fifth-year was going to give him an earful about never grabbing hold of the Quaffle, not even grazing it, there was no doubt about that whatsoever. Finnegan had resolved to just let the other have at it, to swallow his pride and take one for the team because the plain truth was: they needed Elsian more than anyone. New Chasers, Beaters or even Keepers could be found in Gryffindor, but a new Seeker? Barring the unlikely return of @Evelynn Decipio to the team, there just wasn't anyone to replace him. He rather suspected that this was precisely why Elsian even bothered to play at all.

40 points was a solid lead, but not an insurmountable once. Gritting his teeth, Finnegan dove forward, determined to snatch the Quaffle away from Ms. Riddle's greedy little hands at least once.

xxMaybe it was poor form, but most of Maggie's glee at the lead they had on Gryffindor didn't come from the general happiness she felt surrounding winning as a whole. Rather, her hatred for @Finnegan Conner was reaching a fever high lately. She could pretend not to notice her best friend's closeness to him all she liked, but even feigning ignorance wasn't enough to get it off her mind. Lately, any time Maggie saw June, things had seemed off somehow. Different in a way they hadn't been before. Strange. So yeah, the forty point lead was making her smile, especially since Finnegan hadn't attributed anything to the team. Just what he got for being the worst, she supposed. Maggie, for her part, had managed multiple successful passes to @Koko Riddle. Suck on that, loser.

She continued flying, and then. 40 to 0. It was only the beginning, of course, but also, four people had been knocked out and she wasn't able at all to save any of her teammates.

It was okay though, she was still there, and no bludgers had hit her, and she hoped it would continue being the same way and she wouldn't be hit. And if she did fall, no one would be able to take her place, because there were no benched chasers.

No luck. No gold. No snitch.

Not even the tiniest shine in the corner of his eye, felt like every time he thought he might’ve caught a glimpse it was just the swirl of snow drifting down all around them. The only positive here was that the other seeker hadn’t spotted the snitch yet either, but who knew how long that would last?

Hmm, he blamed @Finnegan Conner for this.

Like usual. How it was the other boy's fault he wasn’t sure, but he was working on that.

Afterall how could he be expected to find AND catch the snitch before the enemy if Finnegan didn’t score at least once? Maybe he should offer some friendly words of encouragement…

“Oh Finn~” He called over the wind between the small break in action as the boy once again, failed to score. “Did all the bludgers to the head knock your screws loose or are you still pining over your paper Juliet? Because I can’t think of another reason you haven’t scored yet!”

Looking towards his teammates he wondered on the amount of luck he’d need to cash in for the snitch to magically appear right there, eyes darting about as he sassed the other for that spark of competitive spirit the other used to have plenty of. Who knew, maybe he’d make the other snap and grab the snitch himself like in that practice all those months ago?

Hmm, nope. Didn’t magically appear there either.

He looked away, trying to focus on finding that golden menace. But not without one last promise to encourage the other!

“Hey Finn! Don’t score if I should skip practice for a wee- no! A month.”

The moment when the loud whistle was blown, both teams' chasers immediately went for the quaffle grab. Unfortunately, in this round, the Slytherin chasers were all able to grab away the quaffles before the Gryffindor chasers' eyes. Oh boy, here it comes!! Ash mentally prepared herself and used the most traditional Keeper's technique to guard the hoops. Ash noticed that the other Slytherin chasers mainly toss their quaffles to one specific person each time, she thought that chaser's name could be Koko, correct? It was obvious to Ash why they would rather have that person to score for them, cause no doubt Koko was a veteran Quidditch player who must be best at accuracy between the three Slytherin chasers. Well, that didn't scare the young Gryffindor keeper.

It was expected that Ash herself still didn't have enough experience and skills to stop all scores, but stopping one was already good enough. All she could do, was continuing to try her best.

The first round had gone pretty okay. Both the beaters of both teams were down but to her team's advantage, they were 40 points ahead of the other team. Their strategy to pass every quaffle to Koko had proven efficient. Mellani hoped that their seeker was having progress on getting to the Snitch. This was her second game on ground and although the first had not gone great on her side, she had been practicing a lot and was hoping that she would be able to do better this time around.
