“N-nice t-to me-meet y-you, Silver,” Kaitlyn stuttered, but tried to sound sincere. Her face flushed bright red at Silver’s question. ‘Merlin, am I that obvious? Can my classmates tell that I’m incredibly nervous and anxious? I suffer from social anxiety, yes, but I assumed that people couldn’t tell until I started talking,’ she thought, feeling bad for herself and her lack of communication. ‘No wonder why people treat me differently. Merlin, I must be a bad student … and an even worse friend,’ her mind whirled with self-doubt.

Audibly gulping, Kaitlyn shook her head. “N-no. I’m j-just sh-shy, an-anxious, a-and awk-awkward,” she admitted. Her fingertips still nervously braiding her hair. ‘Merlin, when is this class going to end,’ she internally moaned. She had to wonder how many of the classes were designed to get them talking to each other. It felt like that was true for flying class. And now, she felt bad for wasting Silver’s time. “So-sorry,” she mumbled, looking down at her feet again. Self-concious thoughts began to permeate her mind, thinking that her presence was off-putting. ‘Good job, Kaitlyn, now you’re wasting Silver’s time by barely being able to communciate. You would’ve been better off staying quiet,’ her mind chided her.

Silver smirked and looked understanding. She also put one of her hands on her hip. "That's what I expected. But don't worry! I've met many people who have social anxiety, and I've helped all of them with it! It's a pretty common thing actually." Silver felt excited to help another person with social anxiety, and she felt she would do better than ever before!

She then realized something. "Hey wait a second, is there even a teacher here??" She looks around to try and find a teacher, but there is not a teacher anywhere she had tried to look for one. She then chuckled a bit. "Hey, you want to be friends? What do you say?" Silver looked friendly, and she seemed very kind too. She was hoping so much that Kaitlyn would say yes, so she could be Silver's first friend here at Hogwarts. "And if you say yes, you would be my first friend here at this great school Hogwarts! I would also definitely love to help you with your social anxiety. I also have anxiety. Performance anxiety, and just regular anxiety." Silver looked pretty excited to make her first friend at Hogwarts. She would defend Kaitlyn whenever she needed if she didn't know how.

Kaitlyn shrugged at Silver’s words. It was very likely that other people felt anxious, but she rarely thought about that. “M-Maybe? S-sorry. B-but, it so-sometimes f-feels l-like just m-me,” she voiced her concern. To be fair, when she was acting incredibly shy, she rarely looked around at her classmates. So, it was certainly very possible. It was very hard to potentially worry about others when she could barely think straight.

At Silver’s question, Kaitlyn glanced around. “I th-thought they s-stepped a-away f-for a moment,” she responded, thinking that was what happened. Then again, it was an eventful class, and she finally summoned the broom. She glanced over at Silver. “M-me?” She asked, surprised that this much more outgoing girl would want to be friends with her. “Um … yes, y-yes we c-can,” she agreed, giving a shy smile.

Kaitlyn giggled at Silver’s confirmation that she would be Silver’s first friend at Hogwarts. “Y-you need to s-start s-somewhere,” she giggled. “Y-you ha-have an-anxiety, too?” She asked, “I can’t e-even t-tell.” Or this girl processed hers differently. And likely didn’t stutter like her. Then again, just because she couldn’t see it yet, didn’t make it not true. “Th-thanks f-for the h-help,” she responded with a small smile.

Silver smiles again and she thinks, 'Hmm.. How can I help her? Oh! I think I might need to explain my anxiety to her.' "Oh, my anxiety? Well, I normally don't get it during the daytime. But at night? Oh, that's when it really kicks in because I have nothing else to think about, or keep me distracted from it.." Silver thinks that Kaitlyn would understand.

Silver sighs as she says, "Well anyway, you seem to be stuttering a lot. That probably means you're nervous or scared to talk. If that is the reason, then why? Is there anything scaring you enough that you don't feel like you can really talk?" Silver's face expression changed to a calm, relaxed, and understanding look. Silver seems to be a bit confused on why, or what would be making Kaitlyn nervous to talk.

Silver looked up then started thinking. She kept thinking, and thinking, and wondering why, or what was making Kaitlyn that nervous to be able to not want to talk. She didn't exactly understand because she was not like that, although she did at least try to think and understand what was happening inside of Kaitlyn's head that was making her nervous.

“Oh. Ki-knd of like w-where your mind is a-always racing a-around getting distracted d-auring the day. But, at ni-night, your mind c-cannot rest,” Kaitlyn commented, her stutter slowly becoming less visible, as she started to become more comfortable to talk around Silver. That was always good, of course, since they were in the same house. She kind of understood Silver’s issue. Her own mind raced a lot, too. It took her time to slow her mind enough to sleep. She often had to resort to some meditation to achieve anything close to a restful mind. And, thankfully, it didn’t bother her roommates. Or, at least, they didn’t tell her it did.

Her cheeks blushed bright red, and Kaitlyn looked down at her feet. ‘Am I really this pathetic? Getting tongue-tied on just talking to people? Would Silver even understand?’ She thought. “I’m j-just nervous t-talking to p-people … a-and making f-friends. I’m s-sorry for b-bothering you,” she responded quietly. She felt bad for making Silver question why she was the way she was. It made her feel like she was doing a bad job attempting to make a friend. She promptly shut her mouth to not say anything weird to her fellow housemate.

Emiline watched people start up conversations. It reminded her of her failed attempt of talking to the girl on her right. She probably just didn't hear you. She'd told herself. I wonder if we are allowed to go any higher. She wondered. She stood still for a minute watching other float a few inches off the ground.Screw it, i'm going higher, she thought. She stepped over to her broom, held it tightly and commanded,"UP!"Due to her commanding voice, the broom went higher than last time. Emiline could look down upon the rest of her class, even the ones that were floating. "Hey, everyone! Anyone want to join me up here?"She yelled down at the group.

After a minute of just hovering in midair, Emiline decided to play about with the broom. She lent to the left, and off she went to the left. She lent to the right and to the right she went. Emiline then did circles around the airspace of the group. "Come on! Anyone?!"She yelled again.Does nobody want to come up here? Wait, what if we aren't supposed to go this high. I would get into trouble. Mum would be really mad. Oh gosh, why did i do this. She panicked. She paused. Wait, how do i get down? OH GOD!Her mind flashed to the time she got stuck really high and her mind went full panic mode.AHHHH! I CAN'T GET DOWN!

As Kaitlyn waited for Silver’s response, she noticed one of the Hufflepuff girls mount her broom and fly into the air. Normally, she wouldn’t care, but her blue eyes grew as big as saucers. Not because the girl was breaking the rules, but because of the girl’s bravery. Kaitlyn was scared. Scared of flying. Scared of falling. She hoped that by taking the flying class, she’d be able to learn to fly slowly but surely. Then she might be able to get over her fear. Or be more comfortable in the air. Despite her fear, she thought it looked fun.

As such, Kaitlyn felt a pant of jealousy seeing this girl. Freely flying. Going higher. Flying in circles. Sure, the girl tried to get some of the other first-years to join her. But, Kaitlyn stayed out, her feet on the ground, next to Silver. But, then, something was wrong. The girl was screaming that she couldn’t get down. Kaitlyn’s eyes grew even wider. She turned to Silver. “Hey, um, Silver. I’m going to go help her,” she pointed to the girl in the sky. “I … um, enjoyed our conversation … I’d like to talk to you again.” She gave a small apologetic smile to Silver.

Without even thinking, Kaitlyn mounted her broom and kicked off the ground. She flew up into the air. Unsteady at first, she swayed a bit, but was able right herself … mostly. Glancing up, she angled her broom up for her to approach the girl. It took her a while, as she moved slowly, but was able to rise up to where the girl was. She was able to stop and hover near the girl and let out a sigh of relief. She was safe so far. That was always good. She gulped and looked over at the girl. “Um, hey, why don’t we go down together?” She asked. Her shyness and fear were momentarily eclipsed by the adrenaline from rushing into the sky to help this girl.

Silver noticed the two, then she mounted her broom, and she kicked off the ground as well. "Woah!! Haha! Hmm? Oh sure! That's fine. You can go with her. Also, just to let you know, your stuttering problem is going away." Silver said to Kaitlyn. Silver was super ecstatic to be flying, it was very hard to contain her excitement. Her nervousness from earlier faded away super quickly since she was now flying. 'Huh, I think that this will be super awesome! I just can't believe this.' She thought to herself.

That's when the excitement hit her. 'You know what, maybe this won't be so bad! This is so fun! I love flying!!' Silver thought to herself. She thought it would be easy to make more friends, to fly, help her friends, and do even more fun things! She was even excited for every single class! She couldn't even believe that she was a witch. Silver laughed out loud, and about everyone heard it. She was glad to be flying and making friends. She tried to calm down, but everything was just too exciting! "Whoo hoo! Ha ha!!" She may have gotten a bit too excited and did some flips on the broom. She giggled and laughed so much, she was having the best time of her life.

The wind blew through her mangled hair. Emiline clutched the broom with all her might. After she had yelled she spotted a beautiful girl mount her broom and soar up to her. She looks frightened but determined. She thought. She could tell by the girl's tone of voice she wasn't frightened, she was terrified. Wow, she is has a heart of gold to face her fear to come up and help me. Me of all people. She thought. Emiline watched the girl hover next to her with grace. The girl gulped and started talking to her. Emiline stopped thinking of the terrifying things that could happen and on the girls voice. She asked Emiline if she would go down with her. Emiline sighed a gasp of relief. She would be able to get off this broom, the broom was going numb from being sat on for so long in the nippy air. "I would love to go down but m-my broom is-isn't responding."Emiline replied through her gentle tears.

At this point, Emiline cautiously took one of her hands off of her broom to wipe her face. She did this quickly due to not wanting to not be holding the broom. "How d-do we get d-down? Also s-sorry for being so cocky earlier. I'm a nuisance."Emiline asked as her tears subsided.

‘Don’t look down … don’t look down … don’t look down …’ Kaitlyn’s mind kept repeating. She was absolutely scared to be up in the air. But, she was already there … and was trying to help this Hufflepuff girl, who seemed terrified like her. She sighed lightly, trying to calm her fears. She moved her broom closer to the girl’s, and she extended an arm out, pulling the girl closer to her. ‘I hope this works,’ she thought. “M-maybe we should t-try together?” She offered.

‘I never thought of how to get down either … I don’t want to admit that and make this girl even more scared. From what I could tell, aiming upwards allows you to climb … so by that logic, aiming down and leaning forward should do the trick … I think…’ Kaitlyn looked over at the girl. “We a-aim our brooms s-slightly downward a-and lean forward s-slightly … together,” she provided, emphasizing the together to show that she wasn’t planning on leaving the girl by herself, gently keeping her hold on the girl. ‘I don’t want her to panic more than she already has,’ she thought. She gently shook her head. “Don’t w-worry about that now … and I d-don’t think you’re a nuisance … just c-curious,” she replied.
