Quidditch Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff - Winter 2024

Tes cheered wildly, voice rising with the crowd in victory as her and Avery’s bludgers hit true. She returned Avery’s salute, basking in the glow of success before returning her gaze to the game. She’d check on the two students she’d knocked from their brooms after the game. She knew they’d be okay and it was all part of it, but there was still a flicker of guilt over the violence of it all.

Her lips pulled into a frown as she watched her own team fall from their brooms and Ravenclaw score point after point. Shaking herself, she whipped back into the game, bat at the ready.

The game started and it seemed like the second-year Hufflepuff had gotten used to it - her job was supposed to be watching the sky for falling badgers, but she was feeling distracted. All the sudden, she hears a commotion behind her and whips her head around to see Howard falling from the sky. She rushes to save him, but it’s too late. Her head was up in the clouds and now Howard was down on the ground.

She took this as a sort of wake up call. She had to get her head in the game.

Jorah was rudely knocked off his broom shortly after the match commenced. He crashed into the ground below sustaining another concussion. His unconscious mind would sound something like this:

"OHHHHH! The Flying Badgers they each stick out their tongue! Taunting the little ravens who smell of dung! Flyingg Badgers! Flying Badgers! Dastardly and dashing are we, who are going to give a thrashing for all to see- AHHH!" The bludger hurdling toward Ethen ripped him from his completely out-of-tune song. He had hoped that his obnoxiously loud singing would have been enough to distract his foes but he found himself getting into his weird taunts. He ended up becoming distracted on his own. He blamed the catchiness of the world-renowned Flying Badger (remix) that he was working on... Sure there wasn't actually an original but calling it a remix gave it some added flavor.

He was unable to completely avoid the incoming attack that cracked into him. Ethen let out a cry of frustrated pain at the shot and nearly toppled off the broom before catching himself. He was oddly used to getting hit with bludgers. When Atlas persuaded him to join Quidditch, he had hoped he would have avoided bludgers entirely. Such was not his fate. For once, however, he kept himself tentatively on his broom.

Jostled and disoriented, Ethen tried to shake off the concussive impact before his eyes caught a familiar glint. "Alas... there be the wee golden devil. Once more, I challenge yee," Ethen grumbled to himself as he redied himself for the inevitable chase.

The opening of the match proved to be an irritating and enraging affair. Atlas felt loose and quick. She was agile and ready to bat down anything that threatened her goalposts. Her eyes remained locked on the quaffle each time it was contested or traveling through the pitch. But it didn't appear to matter. Each time her goals became the target, she barely missed her chance to intercept the Quaffle.

After the first score, she pushed out the frustration so that it wouldn't get to her. The second score against her had her adrenaline pumping and she muttered silent curses to herself. She let out an audible groan of frustration when Ravenclaw went up thirty points. When a fourth quaffle sailed through her goalposts, Atlas wanted nothing more than to send a bludger flying into her new foe. She was always competitive and hated feeling as though she was letting her team down. Normally she felt pretty unstoppable in defending her posts. Any illusion of an impenetrable defense was dispelled with immediacy.

Again and again, Atlas told herself to focus. If she let her competitive frustration get to her then the points would keep tallying. She knew Ethen was probably on the trail of the snitch already but she wasn't about to sit back and leave it all to him. She still had a job to do and she intended to do it. Adjusting on her broom and exhaling a long breath to calm herself, Atlas' brow furrowed as she readied herself for more.

This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Evasive Maneuvers
Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separately from the attack roll.

𝓘f she had a knut for every time Jorah had manged to get knocked off his broom, forcing her to take his place first round, then she's have two knuts. Which wasn't a lot, but as she'd only been on the team for two matches, it was weird that it had happened both times. If she were Jorah, she would make sure to invest in a good life insurance policy as soon as was humanly possible. Maybe the hospital wing had some pamphlets on this or something.

She was sorry to see the older boy get hurt, but she was even more sorry that now she wasn't going to get to eat breakfast. Life was full of little disappointments like this, but thankfully this particular letdown at least came with the very enticing consolation prize that she'd actually get to play some Quidditch.

Unfortunately this meant that she wasn't going to get to have a nice breakfast chat with the curly haired chaser girl, so with truly magnanimous amounts of grace and benevolence Bex would attempt to leave her pilfered breakfast of croissants and gala apples with the older girl. If uncontested, Bex would dump the items directly into the chaser's lap, but if she put up a fuss Bex would simply leave them behind for the older girl in her newly vacated seat before taking off to join her teammates in the sky.

One, two, three, four, quick and easy Lavinia scored 40 points for Ravenclaw. It was simple for her to grab the quaffle and score these days. She had trained consistently to become the best chaser possible and try at a professional team. Her goals were so close, but the focus now was to be the greatest chaser for Ravenclaw.

Watching her players start to fall, Lavinia hyper focused on her role. She needed to tap into all of her training right now. This game could not be lost.

For once, it was something of a mixed bag as both teams took to the air and enacted their opening strategies. Cecily was just thrilled to be back in the thick of it again after a long Christmas break, but that wasn't to say she was remotely out of practice. With the experience of seven years behind her, she executed her play with precision and discretion, and to great success. Once Howard was sent tumbling from his broom, she listened for just a moment in case she'd been less under-the-radar than she'd hoped, but no penalty call echoed across the stadium, and she'd gotten away with it. Was it in the spirit of the game? Well, no, not really, but she'd long ago come to terms with the idea that sometimes she just needed to do what needed to be done-- and Howard was a threat no longer. A sacrifice made now, perhaps, in return for worse luck in the future, but Ravenclaw had won much scarier games under much worse circumstances, and this was no time for playing nice.
