Good riddance. Mari rolled her eyes exaggeratedly as the blonde-haired girl turned and left the compartment. She turned to Blake with a grin on her face, only for her smile to sink instantaneously when Blake remarked, "Jeeze, that was a little bit harsh."
Mari froze and quickly internally surveyed the situation that had just played out. Blake must be mistaken. That blonde girl had maliciously tried to take her seat; she only deserved the response. Yeah, it had come off a tad more vicious than she intended, but if a girl was going to try to steal her first friend at Hogwarts, Mari was going to defend herself! Much like she did with Mum and Dad, when Dad was clearly irritated at the thought of magic, Mari chucked and joked, "Just hope that gave her the message not to try to steal my turn at the Sorting Hat! Don't want her to try to taint the Haynes family name, ya know."
It wasn't very funny, but Mari really just wanted Blake to giggle, united against the girl. She eyed Blake carefully, a goofy smile still plastered on her face, when Blake responded to her question about siblings. The smile dissipated quickly when Mari registered that Blake used the word was in regards to her neighbor-friend, Rudolpha. Usually when one referred to someone in the past that meant that they died, but Mari hoped that this poor girl hadn't already experienced death. Maybe she just moved away?
Mari didn't want to know about Rudolpha for fear of a conversation in which she served as therapist for a topic she had no experience about. At the same time, however, curiosity had gotten the better of her. She carefully chose her words when she responded, "I'm sorry. Do you mind telling me what happened to Rudolpha?"

She saw Mari tried to make her way out of the situation she was in, put up a joking bright tone just to lighten the bad behavior she had on other. Which was quite failed to convinced Blake to ignore the attitude she had before, in fact, she would be more dislike the girl. But surprisingly, Blake didn't actually felt sorry for the blondie, guess it wasn't her business, shouldn't poke her nose into things that don't affect her. On the outside, she was still playing her 'honest' giggle at the joke Mari made. Blake didn't know Maru's 'Haynes family', but she would deffinately dig a little bit into that name later
After telling her about Ruldofa and heard the question Mari made, she answered
"Hmm? Oh it's nothing, it's just that I'm not gonna meet her in a really long time. Ruldofa has magic, but she didn't go to Hogwarts nor any magical school. I was actually forced to go to Hogwarts, if not, I would rather be home-schooled with her" This was the first time she let out what she had in her mind truthfully, it would do nothing harm to her if she show this emotional side of her to Mari, the girl seems to be loyal and kind if Blake be friend her. "I kinda worry that she would be fine at home alone, ya' would probably understand. It's like leaving a part of me back home."
"Say, about the sorting hat, what do you think you would be sorted into?" Blake asked, with pure curiosity

Mari loosened when Blake giggled at her joke. She realized suddenly that it had felt like years since the sadness she experienced on the platform. In just a short bit of time, Mari had experienced grief, anger, worry, and a spark of joy. If this was what the train was like, what was Hogwarts going to amount to?
She tensed a bit more when she realized Blake didn't quite get the context about her question regarding Rudolpha, but eased as soon as she continued, "Oh it's nothing, it's just that I'm not gonna meet her in a really long time. Ruldofa has magic, but she didn't go to Hogwarts nor any magical school. I was actually forced to go to Hogwarts, if not, I would rather be home-schooled with her...I kinda worry that she would be fine at home alone, ya' would probably understand. It's like leaving a part of me back home."
Mari smiled and commented, "My best friends are my sisters, and I feel the same way. I know Lucy will be fine; she's younger than me, you see, but most of my friends were hers. Mum always called her the 'social butterly'... I'm more of Lucy's shadow. My youngest sister, Grace, though, is only six and I really worry about her. It's silly, but I honestly feel closest to Grace of all. I don't know what she's going to do without me, as I feel quite protective of her, but more importantly, I don't know what I'm going to do without her. She and I have so much fun together."
She looked out the window wistfully. Mari hoped that Grace would be okay without her, but a selfish part of her, a part that she would never admit to, hoped that she would miss Mari so much while she was at Hogwarts. Of course, though, Grace was social like Lucy, but maybe she was more like Mari than the family realized...at least, Mari hoped so.
Turning her attention back to Blake, she wondered, "You can homeschool magic? I never knew that. We don't talk much about the Wizarding world; my family doesn't, that is. I didn't really know what Hogwarts was until I got my letter. Mum explained it after, though."
She didn't have time to have another wistful moment, however, as Blake continued on: "Say, about the sorting hat, what do you think you would be sorted into?"
"Oh," Mari chuckled. "I dunno. Mum comes from a family of mainly Slytherins and Ravenclaws. I'm not really much into studying, and Mum doesn't really like Slytherins that much. Says they're snakes. Really brought the point across once I got my letter. I'm not too brave...I'm pretty aware I look much younger than I am. Can't say that many nine-year-old-looking girls are too intimidating. I guess Hufflepuff...though I've heard rumors that that's just the reject house..." She frowned. "Maybe they'll tell me I don't fit. Can't say it's been the first time..."
She paused, putting two and two together. "I guess Hufflepuff then," she murmured softly. Mari was hyperaware to the fact that she had shown Blake two of her most extreme emotions: her fiery temper and her deep insecurity. She had better hope that Blake turned out to be a true friend or else she was in a lot of trouble.
Clearly still agitated, she resumed focus again, forced a smile, and asked brightly, "What do you think?"
