2, 4, 6, great! • threadOphelia had tried her entire life to deny being a romantic. I'm a dull, boring girl, She would think to herself. How could I be something as exciting as a romantic? But as she grew older, she found it harder and harder to separate herself from her true identity. No matter how hard she tried, she would always love romantic endings and everything to do with Valentine's Day. She was a writer, a reader, and a dreamer, being a romantic practically came with those job descriptions, didn't it? That's what Ophelia believed anyway.
That didn't mean that she thought she would fall in love any time soon however. In fact, she hoped for the opposite. After the years of thinking about it, Ophelia was pretty sure that love was something that was supposed to be taken slowly. She wasn't supposed to rush into it or find her one true love at the puny age of twelve. No, she was to wait until her love found her.
And while she accepted this fact quite easily, that didn't mean Ophelia wouldn't partake in any of the Valentine's Day activities. In fact, it was quite the opposite. After seeing the posters for the dance going on that was going to be sort of Valentine's Day themed, she had decided that she was in.
The thing that remained was finding a dance partner. While Ophelia was socially awkward, she didn't want to be the only one at the event that didn't have a partner. To solve this problem, she went to the one person that it seemed like she could go to. A Slytherin first year by the name of Topaz November.
Topaz was a quiet, kind girl who was almost just like Ophelia herself. They'd met earlier in the year and had gone to the Fall Ball together, as friends of course, and it was only right that they would enjoy this special event together as well.
Ophelia shifted the white belt at her waist so that it was in the proper position and walked into the ballroom. Immediately, she was hit with a wave of excitement. The room had people in it already, which meant that Ophelia was either late or everyone else was early.
Looking around, she didn't spot her friend and sighed. How she wished that Topaz was already here so she wouldn't have to wait alone, but it wasn't like she could do anything about it now. Retreating to a corner of the room, she waited patiently.

Blue in English, Red in KoreanEun-ji didn’t like Valentine’s day. She wasn’t very skilled when it came to the art of love and she only ever attended one Valentine’s Day event, which ended up in disaster. The cupcakes she made with great effort somehow got ruined and spiked with love potion and the company was not all that pleasant either. Well, except for Flash of course but that boy turned out just another painful memory and a reminder that she might have not been made for love. So no, Eun-ji wasn’t fond of this particular holiday however, she loved to dance. She was well-versed in almost all ballroom dances. Her father taught her patiently, she was part of a dance club, and recently she perfected her skills due to the pressure from her maternal grandparents as well. She didn’t really need to learn foxtrot and yet here she was despite her unwillingness to socialize.
It was not that the Ravenclaw wanted to participate. In fact, she was planning to ignore the event entirely however, as always when it came to dancing, her love for it overpowered any desire to stay away from crowds. She just wanted to take a peek. Watching for a minute or two should be enough and then she would leave. “If you're not here to dance, I suggest you leave now.” The witch winced at Professor’s Blumenthal words. Just a bit longer. Her brain begged the woman even though her expression remained calm as always, not indicating her inner desires or pleas in any way. She stood by the door, inspecting the scene in front of her, eyes landing on a few familiar faces. Eun-ji was especially surprised to see Kim on the dance floor. Then again, he was probably dragged here by Bailey. That seemed to be a reoccurring scenario these days and to be honest, she was grateful for it. The raven-haired witch was more of an understanding type and didn’t like pushing people into things against their will but right now, Kim probably needed someone pushy by his side and Bailey was perfect for it. Even though Eun-ji didn’t know her well, she could tell the girl could be incredibly stubborn.
The next person, that immediately caught her attention was a certain cheeky snake. In her eyes, the nature of the event didn’t suit him however, he did like to pester and flirt with others. This place was just perfect for that. After few seconds, Eun-ji averted her gaze. Somehow, his actions made her slightly uncomfortable. She didn’t know why. This was Hana’s thing. He always did it and it never bothered her before. Then again, her mood was all over the place this year so it was probably just one of those random sparks of bitterness. Nothing to be concerned about…right?Mentioning: @Bailey Glade and @Kim Sato

Ladies love a guy who can dance. And gentlemen too, or so he heard. Either way, why would he pass up a chance to impress someone? There were too many attractive people in Hogwarts and too little time to flirt with them all. He had to be quick. Show off his best sides within the first minute. Capture their attention. And let the night carry them from then.
Hanako snapped out of his head in the clouds as the professor mentioned to leave if they weren’t here to dance. In front of him, was this pretty Hufflepuff he had been chatting pleasantly with. He had only met her today, but sparks were flying already. A fun day for her. Another Tuesday for him. But she didn’t need to know that yet. He was more of an ‘in the moment’ guy. So it didn’t stop him from fully enjoying the sparks that were happening. He sent the Hufflepuff a charming side grin as they both understood they ought to pay attention to the dance lesson. A silent understanding between the two of them that they were going to be each other's dance partners soon.
He took the opportunity to wander his gaze across the room. Noticing a few familiar faces. Not surprised at all to see Bailey partnered with Kim. If either of them would glance at him, he would give them a cheeky smirk followed by a wink. But he understood they wanted to be alone. Or at least Bailey would have preferred that. He was somewhat sympathetic to her situation. Having such …strong feelings with someone. To have her heart so devoted to someone. He would bet quite a sum that the second Bailey saw this dance class, Kim was the first person she thought of. If she wasn’t his friend, it would have looked rather pathetic to him. He was fine. He was a free spirit. The kind who could appreciate the moment. The one eager to explore his options and-
Oh look Eun-ji was here.
For a split second his heart hammered against his chest and his hands instinctively checked if his hair and shirt were in place. Only realized how sudden his shift in demeanor was when the Hufflepuff next to him shot him a skeptical look. He took a slight deep breath, fighting the urge to face-palm himself. Of course, she would be in someplace like this. Wasn’t she in some sort of dance club? He shouldn’t feel this surprised. More importantly, he shouldn’t feel guilty. They were just each other's temporary entertainment. She wouldn’t care if he stood so close to the Hufflepuff now would she?
Still, he couldn’t help but keep his gaze on her. Noticing far too quickly that she didn’t seem to have a partner. His nose scrunched a bit remembering her previous date to the fall ball was some bloke from Mahoukotoro. Was she just partnerless now that the guy wasn’t here? He couldn’t help but smirk at the thought. But she wouldn’t be partnerless for long.
He briefly glanced between the Hufflepuff and her for a moment.
Some part of him felt he needed to be concerned by how quickly he made his decision.
“Nice meeting you, cutie. Don’t be a stranger, kay?”, the Hufflepuff barely could retort before he casually moved through the crowd to get closer to Eun-Ji, a very unapologetic grin on his face as he made his way to her. Hey, it wasn’t like he and the Hufflepuff ever verbally agreed to be each other's partners. Not when they were too busy flirting earlier anyway. And now it was her loss.
He didn’t need to think any more about why he made this decision. It was simple really; he just wanted to prove he was better than the Mahoukotoro bloke. Hanako only managed to see them together at the ball for a moment. It remained a mystery if they really did dance together. But just the thought of her enjoying a dance with someone else just…annoyed him. Just a bit. Okay, a lot, honestly. And the reasons for why it annoyed him didn’t need to be explored. At the moment, he was just concerned about proving he was a better dancer. Jealousy aside, he was just petty and competitive.
“Fancy seeing you here, Precious” he greeted, the flirt to his tone having an unusual hint of gentleness to it that he pretended not to notice. “ Should it be a surprise to see you here? I would have naturally assumed you were already good at this thing”.
Good start, he told himself. Just be chill and casual. And eventually, he’ll naturally slip in the idea that she ought to dance with him without sounding too eager. Not that he was eager to dance with her for the wrong reasons. He just…wanted to prove a point. That he was a better dancer than her date. Pettiness only. No big deal.

| ⠀ | It was Saturday, February 10th, 2024. Only 4 days away from Valentine's Day, a 'holiday' Kim wasn't particularly looking forward to. He didn't have anyone to celebrate it with because Felix wasn't there anymore. Not to mention a certain redhead he'd never considered himself to have any feelings for, until she'd confessed to him that one time. It was a pretty strange thing, you could be with someone every day and never realize you were attracted to them until they confessed to you. And then, either everything changed and made you see them in a different light, or you drifted apart from eachother. Kim couldn't help but think Sophia would have loved to participate in this event, even if did happen to be a bit clumsy by nature. But that was part of her charm. Puffie would have also loved to come here. The pink puffball had always loved the attention he got from others. A crowd of people suddenly appeared and Kim flattened himself up against the wall to let them go past him. They must be heading towards that dancing errand he'd heard about earlier. Even though he liked dancing, it made him feel a little better at times, the errand had stated he needed a partner and he wanted to be alone. Interacting with other people really wasn't something he wanted to do right now. But it seemed as if fate had other plans for him as a familiar girl appeared before him. Before he could reject her, she was probably coming to try and drag him to the errand, he started to sneeze. Not a full-blown attack but a rather mild one. One that made him sneeze and not feel like the Curse of the Bogies had been cast. That in turn meant someone was covered in cat hair nearby and since Kim knew Bailey had a cat and was now right next to him, it was highly likely she was the culprit in this case. Unable to stop sneezing enough for him to reject going to the errand, Bailey pulled him along with her to the main location. Once they reached their destination, the girl pulled out a tissue and wiped his nose, before she cast a spell that removed the remaining cat hairs on her clothes. As Kim slowly recovered from the minor attack, he blinked watery eyes as his vision began to return. Well, he might as well stay and do the errand now that he was here. It would be a waste not to now. Bailey was also there and she could be his partner. The Care of Magical Creatures professor was decked out in a rather beautiful red dress.... As Sabine spoke about what they would be doing, Kim nodded. He was familiar with the Fox-Trot but didn't like it that much. The dark haired fourteen year old preferred dancing alone, rather than with a partner and since this dance depended upon both parties moving in unison, it was quite different. He watched as Sabine demonstrated the dance with her partner, the lovely Méabh Regan, their new Potions professor. They really did look good together, moving in unison with eachother. Méabh's silky black jumpsuit and Sabine's sexy red dress actually looked really good combined. Ah, there was the fashionista within him coming out a little as he looked at their outfits. It was around this time that Bailey spoke, distracting him from his thoughts. He glanced back over, dull blue eyes lingering on her. Kim had grown a few inches since the start of the year and was now 5'8", compared to Bailey's 5'6". But as a result, they were the perfect height for a dancing pair. Bailey hadn't let go of his hand yet and he hadn't felt the need to remove it from her grasp either. There wasn't much point to disentangle himself when she would be acting as his partner for this event. And... he had to admit, it felt nice to have her hand in his own. It was almost calming to him.... Not that he'd ever admit that to anyone, not even to himself. Bailey's earlier words made him glance over at the professors dancing together. "Their outfits go together very well, the black and red remind me of tango partners." Kim replied. "As for their relationship, who knows?" He said, not elaborating on this matter.... Back in the past he'd have shown interest in this and been contemplative. But now... he didn't really care much. Kim lifted his arm into the air, which held Bailey's hand within his own, and wrapped his other hand around her waist. He lightly pulled her closer to him and waited for the instructions to start practicing the dance steps from the two professors. When it eventually came, Kim started to move around on the floor with his dance partner. It was around this time that his eyes suddenly spotted two other familiar faces out on the dance floor. A certain boy who was obsessed with kissing him all the time, @Hanako Tone, and one of his closest friends, @Eun-ji Lee Hunt. Eun-ji and him were similar by nature and he felt comfortable with her. Hana... they had a complicated relationship. He let his eyes linger on Eun-ji for a moment but then his gaze drifted off again. It was hard to remain focused on anything anymore, unless it was for a club or a greenhouse visit. And even with the former, sometimes he found himself drifting off from time to time. The only time his focus was at 100% was when he was taking care of the plants inside the greenhouse. After all, one little mistake could hurt or kill the plants. Kim would never be the cause of something like that, no matter how he was feeling inside. Maybe he'd a pay a visit to them after this errand was over to relax and unwind a little. He glanced back down at Bailey again and let his eyes linger on her for a few seconds. She was really persistent with him, but why? They'd known eachother for three years, so it had been quite some time. But still, all his previous 'friends' back when he'd first attended Hogwarts had disappeared on him. Or drifted away from him. Therefore, why wasn't she like all the others? Bailey and Valentin both... | ⠀ |

It was pretty seldom that Nellie dressed up. Normally she was pretty content to wear jeans and a sweater or tee shirt. Today was different. Today was dance practice. It was something she'd willingly signed up for. Now, standing here in her pink dress and Valentine earrings, she was regretting that decision. The young Hufflepuff was one of those amid the nervous kids with the sickly pallor. And yet when Professor Blumenthal suggested that anyone not there to dance leave, Nellie's feet stayed firmly planted to the floor. What was bravery if not acting through your fear? For Nellie, these situations induced a very real fear.
Growing up, she'd always wanted to learn how to ballroom dance, but such endeavors cost the kind of money that the Han's simply did not have . So when she'd heard about ballroom dance lessons for Valentine's Day, she'd signed up nearly immediately. But now, looking around the room, Nellie felt herself shrink against the wall. Why hadn't she thought of bringing a partner? That was dumb. She'd been so excited about the dancing, that she forgot to provide her own partner, which, of course, was necessary for the experience. Really, she could only think of one, maybe two people she'd even want to bring. But that was a moot point, now. Here she was, shy and alone. But, hey, she looked cute, right? Standing there, listening to the professor, she smoothed her skirts down, nervously. She didn't even know anyone here, at least not yet. Her only hope was that the professor would match her with somone else that arrived unpaired. Of course, that might also present an entirely different set of challenges, but as established, Nellie was up for it.
Silently she watched as the professors began to demonstrate. Her nerves gave way to a smiled and
she found herself already swaying to the music, as if she migh join them. Music was magic in and of itself like that. The girl had yet to learn the steps, but she could feel the music calling her to join. However, she currently did no more than sway. Despite her love of music and ballroom dance, she was fairly sure that she was dismal at it. She only hoped that would change once she began to learn. "Slow. Slow. Quick. Quick." As they danced, she kept time almost beneath her breath. Her muttered timing was meant for none but her, but that didn't mean it wasn't heard.

It was always a treat, being assisted by someone. Especially when that someone was as lovely as Méabh, whom Sabine had grown quite fond of during her tenure at the school. "Underdressed? Please," Sabine laughed and settled her opposite hand beneath Méabh's arm, the left still clasped tightly around the other woman's palm. "You look divine. I'm a drama queen." For lack of a better word, of course.
Though Sabine knew she could, theoretically, tear up the dance floor, leaving deep grooves in her stead, her movements were small and measured. She hadn't an interest in showing anybody up, and, for her part, was entirely grateful for the company of a likeminded professor. With all the chaos that working at Hogwarts seemed to brew up, it was always nice to bask in the levity of it all alongside people who, at their barest bones, just wanted to dance. Or something like that.
"All you need to do is try not to trip," with a reassuring squeeze to Méabh's hand, Sabine took off--pulling them into a gentle, yet lively two-step with ceremonious grace. "I'm almost shocked by the turnout. Thought it might be too specific, the dancing and all."
As they danced, Sabine oriented them towards the small clusters of students that had begun to coagulate around the floor. As a part of her personal pledge and devotion to the craft, she had vowed to ensure no student danced alone, a promise she would hold tight. After all, what was a dance without a partner?
Approaching a slight girl with brown hair and glasses @Elodie Norman, Sabine's gaze tore across the floor. How to go about this? Someone to compliment her well--this girl seemed to relish in the dancing, watching everything with gentle eyes and a fascination that could only mean she had experience with dancing. Which meant... there! Sabine caught sight of another girl, hair in a coiffed updo and clad in pink frills @Nellie Lam. From a pocket hidden deep in her gown, Sabine slipped her wand into her palm and pointed it at the cool tile floor. "Expecto patronum," from the tip sprung her gazelle, shimmering like a million stars in a milky nebula. "Be a dear and fetch her for me," the gazelle would turn on its heel and gallop through the assembled students, catching the attention of Nellie and leading her to her new dance partner, Elodie. "Happy dancing, my dears!"
Now to give the other elephant in the room, so to speak, a little nudge. Sabine could see that another girl @Harmony Hollins, hair dark and long, was attempting to initiate dance with a well-dressed boy nearby @Ethan Smith. She wasn't one to meddle (oh, what a lie), but she could spare a moment to ensure some sparks flew. "Looking for a dance, my dear?" She addressed Harmony, then spun herself and Méabh towards Ethan with a single smooth movement. "Make sure you're moving with certainty. If you mess up with confidence, hardly anybody will notice!" She punctuated her statement with a soft smile, nudging Ethan and Harmony closer.
Another day, another dance partnership facilitated.
Demonstrating with the incredible @Méabh Regan.
Using the corporeal patronus messenger to pair up Elodie Norman and Nellie Lam; pairing Ethan Smith and Harmony Hollins.
If you wanted to be matched by the professor and were not, let me know! I probably mistakenly skipped over you on my list.

@Nellie LamElodie blinked shyly at her assigned partner, her gaze roving over the girl. She was rather lovely, with hair a slightly darker brown than Elodie's, her dress a flood of pink frills that made her eyes widen. As a little girl, Elodie had spent hours with her face pressed to the windows of the boutiques in the richer side of her town, her eyes huge with childish wonder at the beautiful dresses displayed, many of them similar to the dress that her partner was clad in.─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Elodie let out a barely audible sigh, offering up a smile at her spectacle-clad companion and reaching out a hand. "Hello. My name's Elodie. Looks like we're stuck together, huh?" She said, her voice lilting with politeness as she joked.
This girl seemed nice, but Elodie couldn't help but feel awkward standing near her. Her own dress was rather plain and had taken her mother weeks to make, a baby blue with a rather short hem. Her hair was pulled into a simple ponytail and partially braided, and she wore no jewelry other than a simple silver necklace featuring a crescent moon pendant. Elodie felt rather like a toddler dressed up in her mother's clothing, a child disguised as someone who belonged here.
It brought back memories of her first day of Hogwarts, during which she was convinced they would soon realize there had been a mistake, and she was just a plain child. She felt out of place in her robes, in her dorm, holding her wand, even all these months after arriving here. Rather than sinking into herself and dashing from the ballroom, which was what she really wanted to do, Elodie let out a breath as she waited patiently for her partner to shake her hand.
Her mind drifted to the beautiful gazelle who had led her partner to her, glittering as if it had been created with every star in the sky. The girl wondered if she would ever be able to conjure such ethereal creatures, a sense of longing washing over her. Oh, how she yearned to be able to do that, to have such power to create beauty at her fingertips. Perhaps it was her rather dull upbringing, or her fascination with animals and magic. Either way, her chest twisted, though she pushed it down with determination so she could enjoy this time.

Bailey did feel a little bad about making Kim sneeze earlier, but honestly it had worked to her advantage. She had gotten him sidetracked enough to get him to the errand, and now that he was here and not sneezing any longer (thanks to a few tissues and the magic that is, well magic)
Talking about the professors did get a sentence out of Kim, though not as 'kim' as she would have liked. progress is progress she thought to herself, still determined - and stubborn - as ever.
Glancing at their outfits, Bailey realized they faintly resembled the professors. Her in a red top and black pants, a combination of the professors outfits. Kim was in a sweater that was practically Ravenclaw's house color, and Bailey blushed the tiniest bit realizing that they were wearing each other's house colors.
Bailey and Kim were on the dance floor, and Bailey smiled when Kim moved them into the beginning position (or what she believed was the starting position) for the foxtrot, his hand on her waist and the other in her hand. Bailey followed Kim's gaze around the room, also spotting Hana and Eun-ji. Bailey smiled at Hana, making eye contact. She laughed at his smirk and wink, rolling her eyes at him. She enjoyed their 'banter', and sincerely hoped that Hana did as well.
When the time would come, Bailey would follow the instructions and Kim's lead. Looking back at Kim, she found his eyes already on her. He didn't look... happy, necessarily. More contemplative, but in a sad or hurt way. Or like he was lost.... in his thoughts, in his mind, in whatever sadness or grief he was wallowing in currently. Bailey hoped that she'd find a way to rid him of his depressive ridden cloud that she could practically see floating over his head.

February 10, 2024Matilde O’Fionnagan knew nothing about ballroom dancing. But she was very knowledgeable about Irish dancing. She had been dancing since she was three years old, and it was one the hobbies she was most passionate about. So when she saw the opportunity to learn the foxtrot, she thought, why not? She was very excited about the event, she was always interested in learning something new.
When Matilde got to the ballroom, there were already many students there. She was glad to see a few people she knew. Professor Blumenthal gave them instructions, and Matilde listened intently, making sure she didn’t miss anything. When she heard they needed to find a partner, Matilde bit her lip. She hadn’t thought of that. She looked around the ballroom. Everyone she knew already seemed to have a partner. It occurred to her that they had probably planned ahead. Planning was certainly not one of Matilde’s strong suits, she tended to be a make it up as you go along type of person. It doesn’t matter, she told herself, I’m sure plenty of other students don’t have partners. Not generally one to overthink, she turned to a girl standing next to her. She looked nice. “Hi there!” Matilde said cheerfully. “Do you have a partner?”WC: 210/400
