| ⠀ | It really seemed as if everything was cursed for him and it felt like the universe was against him. Kim knew it would probably be better if he left the dueling club. If he did, it would give the others a chance to win with their remaining members. Members who weren't cursed as he was now and it might improve the atmosphere too. But at the same time, Kim felt drawn to dueling, even though he'd originally not had any interest in being part of the club. He'd started it mainly because of his parents. Or rather in particular, his father. Hiro Sato had been a popular chaser in quidditch back when he'd gone to Hogwarts and he'd wanted Kim to follow in his footsteps. But due to his fear of heights, that was never going to happen. A fact Hiro didn't seem to get, no matter how much Kim tried to tell him.... He seemed to think it was something Kim would 'grow out of', which just was not going to happen. It wasn't that easy to get rid of a deep-rooted fear, sometimes people never got over them their entire lives. However, as a result, Kim did feel the need to do something to make his parents proud of him. So he'd started dueling as an alternative. Somewhere along the way, he actually came to like it and would always feel excited whenever he started a match, looking forward to a back-and-forth between him and his opponents. That is... until this year. This year they'd changed the format from the usual 2v2 and made it into a 3v3. And he kept getting matched up against more experienced duelists, who would end up destroying him and his team. It discouraged him when Kim kept losing time after time... It was as if the universe was telling him he wasn't good enough to be in the dueling club and was doing its best to sabotage everything relating to him. Being paired up with lower years against much higher years didn't seem fair but of course life wasn't fair, that was to be sure. If it was, he wouldn't have lost Sophia and Felix. June and Draven wouldn't have disappeared and then reappeared drastically changed and Sage, Precious, Irish, Pax, Taizu, Quinn and all the others wouldn't have drifted away from him. Also... Puffie wouldn't have died on him. Bailey and Valentin were the only two who consistently tried to keep in touch with him but Kim just felt drained these days. He didn't feel like talking to anyone or doing much of anything anymore. The fourteen year old's heart clenched a little. What was the point of taking part in this duel? He was just going to bring them all down anyway. Why was he even here? If he was responsible, he'd have quit before now and let someone else take his place. Someone who wasn't cursed and could focus on the duel and give it their all. Because that wasn't him right now. What had been the first rule of dueling that they'd learned in class? The number one rule was 'remain focused' and he just couldn't do that at the moment. Despite his chaotic state of mind, Kim still managed to get off a lovely blue Knockback Jinx. It came perilously close to hitting his target too. But Samantha managed to evade it at the last second. Estelle's spell was successful and Elsa's hit her target. Cassius's spell split into 4 beams of light, a feat Kim hadn't seen until right now. He half-debated about jumping in front of one of them. Or all of them. Just so he could get knocked out early in the game. But that was only a morbid daydream. He'd never do something like that, it would be foolish and detrimental to his team. But that didn't mean he couldn't dream about it taking place. What was strange was that although Cassius was able to split his spell into 4 different bolts, none of them actually hit any of their targets. Was it just a spell cast for show purposes? A flashy one that did no damage and was simply meant to intimidate their opponents? Or was it that Cassius was just experiencing bad luck? Eun-ji's spell backfired on herself and Kim couldn't help but wince. He didn't like seeing her hurt and wanted to go and cast the Hot Air Charm on her. But she wasn't on his side.... So he couldn't right now. A shame. Kim was shaken out of his haze when a bunch of wizard crackers went off all over their side. Samantha had cast a pretty good spell at them. Kim had always been good at evading and jumped backward and to the side as soon as they hit the floor in front of him. Luckily, he managed to avoid getting hit by them. But his teammates weren't as lucky and suffered some damage. Maybe he shouldn't have done that, maybe he should have taken the wizard crackers himself and shielded them from being hit by the spell that summoned the crackers. A sigh escaped his lips as he looked over at the other side again. Both sides were damaged now. What would happen next remained to be seen. Maybe he'd practice the Cracker Jinx, it seemed like a pretty good spell to make use of now. | ⠀ |

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 5
Aiming her wand at the youngest Gryffindor, Samantha cast Cracker Jinx. With high hopes, she watched as the girl almost managed to dodge the full blast. Still, both Estelle and Elsa were suffering under the spell she had just cast, resulting in a sly smile on her face. It seemed like she was the only one of her team to actually succeed with her spell. Eun-ji had somehow managed to inflict the trouble meant for the other team on herself. Cassius seemingly had more luck, casting not 2 but 4 spells. A very impressive thing. Well, it would have been a bit more impressive if he had actually hit anyone with the 4 spells. Quality over quantity. Rookie mistake, she thought. He may be her captain but clearly not the experience. Why even was he her captain if he failed like this? She had done a way better job. Well, at least he didn't hit himself like Eun-ji had.
While her team had clearly underperformed, the lions had managed to create a storm cloud above her head and throw 2 spells her way. Just barely, Samantha dodged the flipendo coming from Kim's wand. Sadly, Estelle's fire did find her. "Shit," she mumbled as she realized how bad this first round had turned out for her team. "Come on guys!" she yelled at her teammates, her voice filled with disappointment. After a dramatic eye roll, she focused on the duel again. Her partners may be failing her, but she could at least try to make something out of this duel.

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 5
Blue in English, Red in KoreanRight…so much for hoping this duel would be better than her last one. The witch thought in dismay. At least in the previous one, her spell was cast successfully and hit its target before the Slytherin trio taken her out. This time, not only she did not manage to hit her opponents, she took the burn of the damage herself. Perhaps it was karma. She was so lost in thought about how she didn’t want to hurt Kim that she actually managed to sabotage herself. You couldn’t be distracted while duelling. That was like a rule number one for God's sake!
Eun-ji could feel some looks of sympathy on her when the spell hit her body but honestly, the pain hardly bothered her. She was used to it. If anything, she was relieved and frustrated at the same time. Relieved, for not hurting her friend and frustrated for letting her teammates down once again. Cassius might have not hit anyone either but at least he didn’t shoot himself in the leg. And he looked pretty cool there for a second. It was a shame such an amazing split missed all targets but those things happened in duels. Although Samantha didn’t seem to be quite as forgiving.
The raven-haired witch looked at her ex-captain, completely drenched and cold yet somewhat detached. “Would you like a hug?” She deadpanned as she inspected the flames dancing on her robes. Not in a mean way, just a plain eerie calm like always. Of course, she wasn't really offering. She was not a huger and at this point, most people knew that...including Sam. Still, to tell the truth, Eun-ji always hated Incendio Duo. She might have looked calm but it did bother her, seeing Sam like this. She had seen a few fire victims thorough her childhood so witnessing anybody on fire made her a bit squeamish even if there were people to help, should the situation get out of hand.
Sighing, Eun-ji resisted the urge to rub her temple tiredly. The younger girl was right to be disappointed. She did a terrible job after all. “I’ll do better.” Well…at least she hoped she would.

"Ventus!"
The Wind Jinx was not his favorite spell. In fact, it was one of his least favorite spells. However, it was also one of the spells he felt most confident in. That confidence was only reinforced as he cast not one or two gusts of wind -- but four. It was incredible and terrifying. It was perhaps also too much for him as he felt his hand begin to shake, causing the gusts to not quite go where he had hoped they would. With the keen evasion of his opponents, he hit nothing. No matter. The duel was far from over.
Above him and his team a storm cloud formed, floating ominously and promising pain. A lightning bolt from that would certainly hurt but for now they had avoided that pain. Lucky them. As for his teammates, he cast a frown in their direction. Eun-ji seemed to have poor luck of late. Had she accidentally offended some otherworldly entity?
As for Sam, his own eyeroll at her attitude likely went unnoticed. Foul language aside, she was right. They would indeed have to get their stuff together. Cassius raised his wand and readied for whatever was to come next.

Where the Gryffindors had a good start, it seemed that the tables were turning. The Ravenclaws were getting the situation under control again, all three of them casting flawless spells this time. Eun-ji, still recovering from her backfired spell, raised her wand at the cloud above their heads, sending it over to their opponents with a well aimed ventus. Cassius conjured some fog around both Sam and Elsa and Sam.
Kim used his last change before the fog hid Sam to hit her with a well cast Flipendo, but Estelle was less lucky. Her own spell missed Sam by some inches, trailing off into the distance. Elsa unarguably cast the most impressive spell this time, her healing spell that reached both herself and Estelle made some notable difference.
... Not as much difference however, as Sam's spell made. The Confringo hit the ground at Estelle's feet with force, making it explode. Opeila instinctively raised her hands to protect her face from splinters, but she got lucky- unlike Estelle.

| ⠀ | Shaken out of his thoughts, Round 2 began and Eun-ji managed to blow the storm cloud over to their side. As thunder rumbled above their heads, Kim looked up at the small gathering of clouds. It looked really enticing and he wondered what it would be like to be struck by lightning, maybe he could electrocute himself and get knocked out. Their opponents struck again, targeting Elsa, their only member who was on par with the birds, and their youngest. Of course they didn't go after him. When Kim didn't want to get hit, they went after him. When he did want to get hit, they didn't go after him... What the hell was up with that? It seemed like he might really be cursed, as everything he wanted to have happen never ended up taking place. Cassius went after Kim's teammates with a well-cast Fog Charm. It looked pretty thick and would take some time to dissipate on its own. But at least it meant it would be harder for anyone to hit them during the next few rounds. Samantha cast a Blasting Charm at Estelle, apparently she was going after their youngest. The spell made the floor explode, quite a nice one. Kim debated about learning it sometime in the near future. If he was still alive at the time that is. Maybe he should take a potion that induced happiness. Or a forgetfulness one. He really couldn't go on like this, it was getting harder every day to pretend things were fine. Not that he'd been doing that good at concealing his mental state up until now. At least Estelle's storm cloud didn't strike them. That was a silver lining to this. Unfortunately, Sam's spell probably interrupted Estelle's focus, which was understandable. Having the floor blow up at your feet wasn't exactly something you could deal with easily when it was going on. At any rate, Estelle's spell didn't manage to hit her target, who was Sam. But that was fine. She had other shots that she could do later on. If she survived this particular dueling match. On the other hand, Elsa was able to successfully heal both herself and Estelle. Success. Kim was rather surprised when his own spell hit Samantha. It didn't deal a lot of damage but at least it had hit her. So that was a victory in his book. Even if it was a small one. Kim wasn't the type to like to deal huge amounts of damage to others. He was more of the type to want to survive until the end and protect others. Chipping away at his opponents until they gave up or passed out was more Kim's style. This duel was really playing with his emotions. He didn't know what to do. Either with his life, his future, and the match in general. Maybe by the end of it he'd know... | ⠀ |

Nicky felt like nothing she ever did was good enough. No matter how hard she practiced, no matter how hard she tried, in the end she couldn't seem to be able to protect her teammates. She hoped Estelle wasn't hurt too bad as she watched the spell hit her. However, she still wasn't giving up. She was going to be one tough gryff that's nigh impossible to beat. Despite her team struggling once more, she would persevere.

"Nebulus!"
Sticking with the theme of atmospheric-related spells, Cassius cast the fog charm. He did so not only for strategic purposes, but because Sam was beginning to annoy him. With a cloud of fog shrouding his teammate, who he knew had some knack at duelling with limited visibility, he would at least not have to look at her face. Unfortunately, it did nothing to quiet her mouth.
How she was so good in difficult visibility was a mystery to him, but it was a quality he appreciated in his teammate. Each of them had their strengths and unique skills. It was part of what made the house duelling team such a formidable force to be reckoned with. That was especially evident as Sam cast an impressive blasting curse that rocked the lower year opponent despite taking a hit herself. Eun-ji managed to nudge the storm cloud back to the team that had cast it. Overall, a decent round for them.
Whatever was to come next, Cassius took up a readied stance and prepared himself.

Estelle cast her next spell, but knew immediately that her aim was off. She really needed to practice her aim - she had a tendency to miss just when it was important. It was very irritating. Estelle, lost in thought, didn't notice the spell coming towards her until it was too late. It hit the ground beneath her, causing shards of wood to fly in all directions, slicing her face and arms. Estelle touched her face. It was bleeding.
When did duelling get this violent?
