Sam has Wandmaker. Thunderbird Tail Feather: • Once you reach 30% of your max health you gain + 2 AP, + 2 Evasion and + 2 Acc. If you are healed above 30% of your max health you lose those bonuses.

Eun-ji has Healing Sage. She does +60% healing.

Elsa has Paragon of Health. Both Kim and Estelle get +10% Stamina.

Just like she did with Broom Racing Training, Opeila entered the Duelling Stage less nervous for the second time. And why the hell shouldn't she, duelling was her element, while she couldn't fly well at all.
Somehow this felt like more of a challenge still. Last round she had watched six children cast spells at each other that were basic to the fifth years, spells she knew and was used to casting for years now. But this- there were three fifth years present this time. This would be different.

"Well... hello again, everyone, welcome back to a new stage of duelling! From Ravenclaw, we have Cassius Eden"- who had knocked her out in her last duel- "Eun-ji Lee Hunt- whom she had knocked out in her last duel, even if she had help- "And Samantha Salwis." Opeila waited for the Ravenclaws to enter the stage before continuing. "They will be duelling against Kim Sato, Elsa Veronica Bennett and Estelle Nyx from Gryffindor!" She tried her best not to send a pityful look to the latter. A few months ago she had watched the child lose against some kids her age, now she was to duel fifth and fourth years? Maybe- hopefully- she had gotten some practice and improved significantly since October.

"You know how this works. Fire away, but do so fairly. Go!"

Nicky entered the duelling stage, trying not to look sour. To say she had doubts about this duel would be an underestimation. Lately, nothing she did seemed enough to win, even when she tried her best. But even if she was about to lose another duel this season, she was not going down without a fight.

Estelle smiled and entered the Duelling Club. She was feeling more confident than she had in her last duel, not because she'd won it (she hadn't), but because she knew what it would be like if she failed. Following that same optimistic logic, the only way to go was up and Estelle hoped that would be the case in the duel.

However, as Estelle entered the room, she remembered just who she'd be facing. Even though she was a 2nd year, she had been placed against 4th and 5th years - of whom she had had no experience duelling. It worried her. But still, age didn't necessarily equate to power. For all Estelle knew, her opponents could be horribly inaccurate and clumsy. She secretly hoped that would be the case.

Estelle took her place, her heart beating fast in her chest as she felt her fear rise. She clutched her wand tightly, fearful of what could happen to her. She was the youngest here, and the most likely to be targeted. But at least she was here. She was representing her house, the house of the brave. The least she could do was put on a confident face. Estelle positioned her wand out in front of her and waited for the duel to begin.

It was Saturday, January 27th, 2024. Kim's worst nightmare had taken place. The second stage of dueling for the year was upon them. But this time, it was against his best friend's fiance and Kim's own close friend @Eun-ji Lee Hunt too. Up until this particular time, they'd never gotten matched up against eachother. Call it a stroke of luck, or a miracle. But right now, Kim was cursed. Everything seemed to be going wrong for him these days. He wasn't surprised to find out his opponents for the second dueling match of the season were very similar to the last one. They were once again up against a highly stacked team of opponents. Opponents they probably had no chance of beating because they were much more experienced than the majority of his team. But then, what could he expect right now?

Kim was cursed, there was a reason the cards were stacked against him, a reason why he kept participating in matches he had almost no chance of winning from the very start, a reason why he kept bringing down those around him. It was simple. The reason was that he was cursed and had been since the Fall Ball of 2022. When Sophia had left him. Disappeared into thin air, as if she'd never even existed in the first place. He still hadn't gotten over it and probably never would. But Sophia had been just the start of his deterioration. Felix also ended up leaving him and on top of that, at the end of the school year and the beginning of last summer, his beloved Puffie had left the world, leaving him all alone. Combine all this with everyone and everything he'd lost back in the past... well... it was difficult.

It was enough to make one's head spin and for them to get lost within the chaos of one's own mind.

Sometimes he wondered just what he was doing in this world and if it would be better off without him. Kim hadn't wanted to open up to anyone or be close to anyone or anything from the very start. But he'd let them in and now was paying the price of doing so. He didn't even know what he was doing anymore. As a familiar voice called out his name, Kim glanced over at them. @Opeila Winters. He was familiar with her, the two of them had interacted quite a few times. But he'd never really gotten to know her that well. Perhaps their relationship could be called a little beyond acquaintances. Opeila was starting a match, right, his match with his fellow duelists. Elsa was there again. She'd been a really great partner and he'd let her down then. They'd had a 2nd year with them before and had lost.

But it hadn't been the 2nd year's fault, it had been because they'd been up against three higher years. The same year as Elsa. It would have been a miracle if they'd managed to win, if they'd won that time, Kim might have wondered if perhaps he hadn't actually been cursed. But it had ended in a huge loss for them. Not only had they lost the match but they hadn't even come close to taking out ANY of their opponents. They'd just gotten picked off like vultures surrounding dead bodies, with them being the dead bodies. It had been a horrible feeling and Kim hadn't wanted to experience it again. But he held out hope that maybe the second dueling match of the season wouldn't pit them against similar opponents. That is, until this very moment. Where history was about to repeat itself for a second time.

Kim felt as if he was the one who was dragging them all down. He couldn't focus anymore. He couldn't focus on much of anything these days. He did homework like a robot, went through club itineraries without much interest, attended classes and barely paid attention. He didn't eat much, didn't sleep much, and had stopped eating sweets or getting joy out of anything these days. The only thing he continued to do, despite his depression, was pay a daily visit to the greenhouses. He couldn't abandon the plants there, they were living things too. And he felt a little better whenever he spent time with them. It was the only thing that kept him going these days. Kim nodded to Elsa, acknowledging her presence but didn't say a single word otherwise. As Estelle stepped onto the stage, he glanced over.

He tried to force a smile to his face but it didn't really get there. It was more like a grimace.

Even though she had stepped down from her captain position a while ago, she still very much loved the Ravenclaw duelling team. This time she was teamed up with Eun-ji, with whom she always had a complicated relationship, and Cassius, who became captain shortly after she left. One of the people she was up against was Nicky. A little smile appeared on her face as she remembered the first duel she moderated, which Nicky's team had won. It was a very long time ago and Samantha didn't remember much of it. Still, it felt quite fitting that she was duelling the older girl now.

"Good luck," she told the other team, before turning to her own. "We got this!" she gave a confident smile to Eun-ji and her captain.

The Ravenclaw co-captain climbed up onto the duelling stage with a quiet confidence. His new robes were immaculate, shoes polished, and ordinarily rebellious hair well-tamed. He wanted to look the part as much as feel it because he was about to embark yet again upon his most favorite of activities: duelling.

Cassius inclined his head respectfully to Opeila, their moderator for this round. She was a highly skilled duellist that the young Ravenclaw was glad he was not facing yet again. Though his team had been victorious, it had been an incredibly close contest. "A pleasure as always," he said sincerely to the Slytherin co-captain as he took his place beside his teammates.

"The summer dream team back at it again," he told the pair, beaming a pearly white smile as he rolled and relaxed his shoulders. "We've done it before. We will do it again."

Cassius eyed the competition now as he readied himself for their first moves. Two he recognized from the previous stage and both had put up valiant efforts despite a severe mismatch. He was looking forward to seeing what all three of them would come up with this round. He was excited and ready to go.

In all honesty, Eun-ji was not looking forward to this duel. Usually, she’d be able to hide her feelings well but today some of the misery probably manifested in her expression ever so slightly. It was not the result she feared. If anything, she actually felt bad for the opposing team. The Ravenclaw had been in a similar situation before and understood how discouraged they might have felt right now. Not that they were 100% guaranteed to lose but the odds were definitely not in their favour.

Those things happened however. The Gryffindor trio wasn’t the sole team to suffer the same fate. What crushed Eun-ji’s excitement for this match, was that she was facing Kim @Kim Sato today. Hurting people, she held dear to her heart, was the most difficult thing to do for her. The sole fact that she considered them friends already endangered their safety, the least she could do was not hurting them personally. Besides, Kim was already struggling as it was. Did she really have to be the one to make him feel even worse? Winning a duel would bring him at least a little bit of happiness but now, he was most likely already thinking about loosing. Eun-ji really wanted to help him. She didn’t choose to be a duellist out of her own desire like Kim did. She liked the sport and she actually fit well with the team in her own way but it was not her greatest passion like it was for her lion friend or a certain cheeky snake @Hanako Tone. She always felt bad seeing those two lose because she knew how important duelling was to them. She felt the same way about ballet.

That being said. Eun-ji also genuinely didn’t want to let her team down. She already did so last time. Her feelings were her own and she would never push them onto anybody else. Ravenclaw duelling team was full of talented people and if she could help them at least a little bit, then that was what she was going to do. “Mmm…” The raven-haired witch nodded in agreement when she heard her captain’s statement. It was true….they worked really well together back then. Still, her gaze kept flickering towards her Gryffindor friend. The glances were brief and subtle but the two of them were very good when it came to understanding each other. The silent “I’m sorry” message was no doubt delivered safely to her younger friend. Well, who knows….It's not like they can't win. Perhaps he will be the one to knock me out and then there will be no reason to be sorry.

The moment the duel began it seemed clear that Opeila had either underestimated the Gryffindors or overestimated the Ravenclaws. The Slytherin had witnessed Cassius duel, she knew he was a force to be reckoned with and instinctively ducked when not one, not two, but four beams of light erupted from her classmate's wand. She had only seen this happen once before, in one of her own duels when Dmitri and her obliterated an unfortunate pair of first years. But the difference had been that every single one of those hit, while Cassius' trailed off into the distance, not finding their mark.

And Eun-ji, who had only a chance to cast one single spell in her last duel, was even more unfortunate than her housemate by the looks of it. Did she hold her wand weirdly or was it the pronunciation that was off? Either way, it caused the Ravenclaw's wand to erupt on the wrong side, hitting the poor girl in the chest and making Opeila wince. That did look like it hurt.

At least it wasn't the littlest lion that got hit by either of these, who successfully conjured a rain cloud over her opponents, earning her a smile from Opeila, whether she saw it or not. Kim's spell was flawlessly cast but missed its mark, but then Elsa managed to set Sam on fire, making her the first to actually damage one of her opponents.

Sam retaliated with a cracker jinx- oh, how Opeila learned to hate these- that reached both Elsa and Estelle. Both girls looked alright, though a little shaken.

The duel had begun! Estelle watched in amazement as one of the Ravenclaw students shot four spells from his wand! Four! It was unbelievable. Estelle stood there, staring in amazement. If one of the spells had hit her, she wouldn't have been able to dodge, so in awe she was. Luckily, the spells missed her.

Estelle seized the opportunity to raise her wand and cast her own spell. It was her favourite, and a very useful spell at that. A small raincloud erupted from the tip of her wand, circling over her opponents. She glanced at the moderator, who smiled back at her. Estelle felt her confidence boost. She had cast a spell, and hadn't yet been hit!

However, as if it was a sign from the universe not to get too cocky, Estelle heard a bang, and saw crackers exploding around her feet, making her ears ring. Someone had successfully cast a spell in her direction.

Nicky was surprised at how well Estelle was doing. She was afraid to jinx it, but she had to admit to herself with satisfaction that she expected less from a second year. The one they had fought with before was out like a light in a couple of rounds, maybe Estelle wasn't going to be like that. In any case, Nicky was going to focus on the match and do her absolute best.
