	----- The pale boy had completed his morning rituals. An early start, a good breakfast and an early bout of morning practice. The last couple of duels had gone terribly, and this one wasn’t going to be the same if he could help it. He wasn’t overwhelmingly positive, nor negative, he was just mindful that his expectation was one of his greatest foes so far. Avery had come to expect things of his piste-mates. Today, he wouldn’t and he instead would show up and attempt to carry them through the turbulence. He was reserved, but confident; already at the piste when they were called up. Nothing happened in the duelling room without his knowing, and before Beatrice had summoned them he was already taking to the piste. His pointed sneer was brief, as though dismissive of her presence; as though he knew exactly what she was thinking. Such couldn’t hold him down, not today. He drew his wand from his sleeve-sheathe, flicking a gaze over its grain. Insticntively, an aversion filled his face. Avery channeled his digust for it into a fuel that he could use, and he turned his dark eyes to the approaching opponents in anticipation; yearning for the moment to meet them; to beat them. wc: 207

Emma was pleasantly surprised to see Bea moderating the match, although admittedly it wasn't that strange. Stepping onto the piste, she pulled her wand from her pocket, her normal hiding place. There were probably better ways to store it, but why mess with the tried and true. Emma knew she was partnered with EmmaLee and Julian this round. She waved at Julian, remembering the kind person from their last match, and did the same to EmmaLee. EmmaLee she knew from the Hufflepuff Pillow Fight, which they had ended up winning. She had every confidence in her partners, Julian because they had already fought together, and EmmaLee because she had seemed utterly ruthless and quite strategic in the pillow fight. Now it was just up to Emma to not let them down.

She looked across and noted a familiar face. She and Guinevere had ended up trading spells in the last round, and she was hoping the same wouldn't end similarly this round. Emma had been unsure of whether she could stand against them last time and she didn't relish repeating the actions. Though if it meant the Badgers won, she'd gladly due it. The other two duellists seemed unfamiliar to her, so she took a few steady breaths, readying herself to fight for the win.

The first duelling stage had been against the Hufflepuff team, so on the day of the match, Guinevere had been pretty sure it would be against some other house, but was surprised when she saw Julian and Emma, both who had been her opponents last stage. She would do her best to redeem herself and her house on this duel.
"Let's get it, guys," she said to her teammates. They were both familiar and she knew their names, but hadn't duelled or talked much with them.

She felt like the more she first steps into these tiles the more she regretted it every time. At this point, she wasn't sure why she kept doing these duels where it always ended up either being an utter disappointment. Well, can't blame her for not having high spirits after her past two duels did not end up as she hoped for. Although those two rounds they indeed always had a disadvantage compared to their opponents if she would like to be petty.

She just needed a win, and today, Pea was sure she would this time. She walks to her spot as usual. Greeting her partners with a slight nod and a small smile. Again she is paired up with Leveret. A young lad who somehow she grew quite fond of after being paired with for several matches. But Russetwood is someone she is less familiar with. Well, she had no comment about her yet as she had barely had any conversation with her despite them being in the same year. Surely she would be better than the newbies she had been partnered with previously right?

Anywho... look who is moderating their duel this time. Langstreth, the same girl she lost to previously and had moderated their duel before too. She is not going to lie that the Ravenclaw did not do a bad job when she moderated her other duels. And now for the "best" part. The Hufflepuffs were standing in front of her. Two of them look very familiar, definitely, someone she has fought before. Pritchard and Wynn. One she had won over the other had won over her. This duel is certainly very tricky, and for some reason, the white-haired is neither excited or gutted by this duel.

27th January 2024 - Afternoon

And it was off with a bang. Duellists flung spells left right and upwards! The Hufflepuffs would mostly be successful with two of the three duellists targeting Avery and getting a hit. It seemed the two Emmas were quite good. Emma her former fellow prefect would dutifully find its target. EmmaLee, who Bea didn't know all that well would cast an incredibly powerful spell. Bea watched as Avery tried to dodge it, but he was unable to. It nicked him at the side, still creating quite an impact. Bea smirked. Would this spell another lose for Leveret? Julian, the last Badger, wouldn't be quite so lucky. He would try and cast something at the part-veela Pea, but possibly fascinated by her looks or the way she carried herself on the duelling piste, his spell sputtered and died before it began.

Slytherin would be a little luckier in some aspects. Avery would try and hit EmmaLee with a ventus, but she was too good. The girl had dodging prowess that was superb! Bea glanced at EmmaLee, noting for her own matchup if this was Hufflepuff in general or just EmmaLee. Pea would be the most successful, casting a crackerjinx that rained down upon Team Hufflepuff. EmmaLee would receive the brunt of the impact, but both Julian and Emma would be blasted with the exploding radius from the impish crackers. Guinevere, the only one to aim somewhere other than an opponent, raised her wand to the sky and created a dark cloud over the Badgers.

It would prove fruitful as lightening built and WHACK! WHACK! WHACK! Three bolts came down over Emma, Julian and EmmaLee. Bea blinked. It was always a split-second shock when the lightening came down, no matter how many now she had seen it. Once her eyes adjusted, she could see that Julian and EmmaLee had come out unscathed but poor Emma had been hit. Was that a tiny bit of smoke coming from her hair?

	----- In an instant Avery was having more fun that he was expecting to have. Fireworks, dancing and laughter. The latter two were forced unto and out of him. What felt like a small giggle creeping up his throat erupted from his usually tight lips, all the while his picture-perfect pureblood-posture cracked under the will of the arcane weave. Perhaps this would loosen him up? - It felt good to carry enough threat to be the main target in a duel with many of his seniors; that surely said enough. His own spell missed its mark, though only because he was keeping to a rhythm nobody could hear. wc: 106
