Minnie looked at Tracey, surprised and happy. "I-I would like to jump in with you. I-and thank you." She smiled. I didn't expect that. She seems so nice and kind. I would love to be friends with her. Her kindness reminds me of Opal. She died saving Nix, my niffler. I guess that Tracey would most likely understand me. And jumping in with someone else would make it much better. Come on Minnie! Minnie looked up and gulped. "Um...so....would you like to hear about what's...bother me?" She hesitantly asked. Then she turned away, cheeks flaming. She could imagine the annoyance coming off Tracey, who probably didn't expect her to ask so quickly. She wished she could read Tracey's mind to find out what she was thinking. Minnie slipped into thinking about Opal, and how she died.
It was a bright, sunny, morning. The kind where you'd never think anything bad could happen. Minnie was just finishing the clasp on her cloak when she looked outside and saw a fox. She laughed at it, thinking that it was cute, not a dangerous, deadly, creature.
She walked to breakfast and grabbed a tart, adding to her list of things going well today. 'Nice day, huh?' She said to Opal. Opal mewed in response. 'Hey, want to play outside today? We could use your new toy! This is a great idea. After lunch perhaps? Or maybe earlier? I'll go ask Mum if we can play in the meadow.' And with that, Minnie ran off to get Mum.
When it was mid-morning and the sun was shining brightly in the sky, Minnie took Opal out to the woods in the backyard. She walked along the path and soon was in an open clearing and a beautiful meadow. 'Time to play Opal!' She took out a plush mouse cat toy and waved it in the air. 'Here, I'll throw it and you fetch! Go!' She threw it, a bit too far. It landed right on the edge of the forest. 'Oops! To far!' She said as Opal ran over to grab the toy. But before she could, a little paw took it.
A tiny baby niffler had appeared out of nowhere and taken the mouse toy. Opal regarded the niffler with interest. 'Hmm. Let me come over here Opal.' She told her cat, and started to walk over. But suddenly, a growl came from inside the forest. A fox stepped out and looked at the niffler, licking its lips. Minnie took a step back. Foxes were mean creatures, and you were not to mess with them. Especially if they had prey. She looked sadly at the niffler. She didn't want to watch the little guy be killed. 'Opal. Come back!' She whispered to her cat. Opal looked up, looked at the fox, and stayed. 'What the-? No! Opal! It's not safe!' Opal ignored her and bared her teeth. She looked at the fox and leaped. The fox pulled away, scratched, and lunged at her-
Minnie forcibly pulled herself out of the memory. Now was not the time. She had to focus on her possibly new friend. "Um...lets go to the shore. And you don't have to listen. I-thanks."

Tracey was happy when she heard that Minnie would love to jump into the lake with her. Tracey wouldn't be sad if Minnie had said no, since Tracey would be fine jumping into the lake by herself, but she was glad when Minnie said yes. To Tracey, doing something with someone else makes the people closer, she didn't know why, but she just thought that was true.
"I-I'm glad. A-and your welcome! Y'know, I-I think the-that if someone does something with someone else, i-it brings them closer. B-but I-I think that's some-something that I only think about," Tracey says giving Minnie a smile.
But, Tracey's smile didn't last long, it soon turned into a frown. Minnie had just asked if Tracey would like the know what is bothering her, and Tracey wanted to know, since she wanted to know if she could support Minnie and make her feel better. She also saw Minnie look away, probably thinking of a side of Tracey that no one can see.
"I-it's ok. You don't have to be embarrassed. I-I'm not annoyed. A-and yes, if you'd like to tell me, I'm open to hearing what's bothering you," Tracey says, a small smile returning to her lips.
Tracey looked back at Minnie and noticed that she was deep in thought, Tracey wasn't sure if it was bad or good, but she knew that it was a memory from Minnie's past, probably about what was bothering her, and if it really was like that, then it was bad, but Tracey didn't want to say anything, since she probably wouldn't be heard by Minnie. She then saw that Minnie had returned to reality and heard Minne speak. Tracey nodded her head then said,
"Sure, let's go. I-I don't mind. You can tell me anything, that is if you trust me a lot,"
Tracey gave Minnie another smile. Tracey wasn't sure if she should walk away or not, but she decided that she'd slowly walk to the shore, so she began to slowly walk. She hopped that Minnie was following her, since she didn't want Minnie to think that she was walking away from her.

March was really excited, she'd never done a polar plunge before, she'd wanted to, but no one else in her family did, really, it was even a miracle they'd considerd before saying no. But you know what really was a miracle? Convicing her mother to let her pack the duck floaty and rainbow flip-flops. March could swim perfectly fine, but why not bring her ducky? Maybe it was good luck...March hoped she could stay in for minimum three minutes? She had her duck under her arm as her flip-flops tappity tapped on the floor. it is cold! She thought to herself, good thing she'd worn her bright yellow sweater ontop, she walked down to the great lake, where lots of other kids were already there. After the orginizer explained the details, and an exciting part about writing what you wanted to leave behind on a rock, March walked over and got a marker, she then got a rock.
Hmmm, what should I write? She thought and thought and thought, she didn't want to leave anything behind! Maybe I could leave behind... Oh! My Stubborness a-and...My rudeness? She thought as she scribbled it all down. Was Stubborness a word? Oh well. She threw in her duck and then jumped in herself, "Cannonball!" The lake wasn't as shallow as she'd excpected, but, the minute she'd gotton in, she submerged herself fully. It was really cold! She instantly began to shiver. "It's really cold in here, huh?" March asked her duck. As it bobbed up and down on the small waves she'd made from her cannon ball, it almost looked like it was nodding yes! Well, she didn't have any friends at this polar plunge, but at least she had her duck.

Lol!
Genevieve stood on the edge of the frozen lake, winds whipping around her. The fierce breeze was playing with her dancing hair, swirling it around as the wind laughed.
She was just wearing a simple yet attractive light blue one-piece bathing suit. The young pretty girl stared out over the lake, deep in thought.
What should I write? I have more hopes and dreams than regrets right now. I just got to Hogwarts, I haven't barely done anything yet!
Her fingers ached in the winter wind as she clenched and unclenched them, trying to keep the feeling in their tips.
She thought of all the wishes she had. I wish for friends, fun and... love. She laughed at herself. I want to meet a boy...
Genevieve shook herself. Right. Um... well... I wish I wasn't so shy. I'm always so quiet... people don't usually notice me. She shivered. The cold made her cheeks and fingertips feel as if they were burning.
She hurried over to get her pebble, choosing an especially round one with little speckles. Genevieve fingered the small rock. It felt smooth and heavy, weighing her palm down.
Pulling the cap off of a pen, she breathed out a swirling cloud. Genevieve quickly scribbled: Shyness on the pebble, and clutched it firmly as she stepped up to the water's edge.
The girl took a deep breath, and started walking into the lake. The cold water took her breath away, leaving her gasping for air. The frigid lake felt like a thousand needles pricking her skin at once.
Genevieve breathed in, and dived down, submerging herself in the freezing water.
Silence. Cold, cold, cold. It felt like her entire world had been submerged in ice. She could feel herself slowly sinking, like how she felt every day, trapped in her quiet awkward anxious shyness.
I need to let go, she realized. Slowly, slowly, she released the pebble in her hand, letting it brush past her fingers and fall, being swallowed by the dark lake water.
...
Genevieve stood, shivering, on the edge of the lake once again. She was wrapped in a towel and had fuzzy warm slippers on her feet, but was still freezing. The harsh January winds had not let up in the slightest.
She pulled the brightly coloured towel closer around her, looking around at all the other students letting their regrets and past mistakes go.
Staring out at the frozen landscape, she shivered again, but not from the cold.
I hope my dreams come true this year. I hope I make friends. I hope I find love. I hope I meet a wonderful boy who is everything I've ever wanted. I hope this is the year that changes everything. I have dropped my shyness in the lake, I can be a new person.
And as she watched the wind blow bits of snow everywhere, and the students shriek as they jumped in the lake, and looked up at the magnificent castle behind her, she was pretty sure her hopes would come true.

January 6thFrost and ForemostIt was the sixth day of January. The new year had occurred and passed at a dreadful speed. It had been seven years and fifty-three days since the passing of his dear friend and the sharp pain which had dulled into an ever present throb, now had become a warm beauty of fond memories. Tristan was able to now remember his time with Edward warmly and was now truly able to say that he had loved and lost but a short time was better than none. In an almost disassociative manner, Tristan observed a surprising sentimentality of it all. He could without a doubt state that his character had changed greatly since that first year he had stepped into these halls or perhaps it was better to say this
yonder Great Lake for he was standin upon its shores for what had been dubbed the annual Polar Plunge. The wind was biting and
for once in his life, he was glad to admit that the cold did indeed bother him. Forthe years prior, the cold had no meaning inside of him as he was already numb with grief and lack of hope. But now having reached fifteen years of age, he could feel it, feel it numb him and so he chuckled and smiled as warmth entered him at the thought. It ruffled his hair and sent shivers through his body despite his three layers of clothes but he was happy, happy indeed. The entire lake was covered with ice except for the part Tristan assumed would be the location of the plunge when the caretaker announced that the rocks upon which they would write originated from a prank, he almost smiled at the beauty of the prank. It was the perfect prank for it was annoying and funny but not dangerous allowing for some mischievous fun! Tristan went and grabbe d one of the aforementioned stones and felt the smooth surface of the rock. It was a beautiful rock and he had picked it because it had a slight blue hinge that reminded him of Edward's eyes and
then grabbed a marker from the box. He moved away from the rest of the students to allow himself some privacy and began to think upon what he would write. He eventually wrote," Allowing grief to turn me cold and forgetting that grief symbolizes love beyond death."He supposed it was quite philosophical for his age but then he had line Aifetimes compared to most adults with his best friend dying at eight and his tutor dying at fourteen. He entered the lake and though the cold hit him, he could withstand it.
He looked to see if there was anyone he recognised and saw in slight Surprise, Axyen whom he had spoken to about muggles and who was part of the gobstone club Tristan had been running. With the new resolution in mind, Tristan waved hello and shouted out," Axyen, its so good to see you! How are you?"

It didn't make sense. It was illogical at best, and absolutely mad at worst. The young Slytherin couldn't spare a glance towards the lake as she sat here under a tree, watching a large group of fellow students just wading into the lake. Fearless. Thalassophobia. Asinine thalassophobia and whatever the heck you call fear of grindylows.
Three months had since elapsed, three months since the catastrophic Fall Ball, the source of all her troubles. The child hardly remembered what had happened beneath the surface of the lake, but according to others, she'd been under for no significant amount of time. She hadn't even done the brave thing, the thing her family would be proud of, and tried to help anyone else. She'd simply- panicked.
It was asinine, asinine and weak. She was weak. And she hated it.
Astra watched as child after child took the plunge and dropped their stone or whatever it was Greer had them doing. They were unafraid. It was shallow in the roped off area. There were no grindylows.
It wasn't that Astra wanted to freeze her skin off. To be honest, if she hadn't been outside at this very moment, she would've simply ignored the whole thing.
But now it was bothering her, itching at her, forcing her to see her weakness and stupidity and irrationality. And she hated it. With every cell of her body, with every ounce of emotion, with every fiber of her very soul, she loathed this fear. This helplessness. This weakness.
Astra wrapped her arms around herself and closed her eyes, tilting her head back against the tree, the sounds of water and chatter and people faint.
Stop being such a wimp. It's disgusting. Do something about it. Be brave. You've got to. It'd be downright pathetic if you didn't.
That's right, you are pathetic.
"Shut up, will you," she groaned, shifting her hands to cover her face. One might wonder why she was so hard on herself for such a simple thing. Astra couldn't tell you. She didn't know herself. Perhaps it was the little-known but proud legacy of her family, a family of people who, no matter their house, went out of their comforts and faced their fears and made the world a better place, somehow. Her father, the auror. Her grandfather, the healer. Her aunts, the rebels and death defiers.
Perhaps is was something she couldn't remember, a traumatic event locked behind the door of forgetfulness, where she was helpless. Perhaps that spurred her to avoid the weakness, the helplessness. Perhaps that was why she so desired courage. hint: that's exactly why
But she lacked what she so greatly wished for. And so she remained staring up at the gray winter sky through the bare branches of the tree, her arms tightly grasped around her middle and her mind whirling.

Minnie carefully wrapped her scarf back up, now determined to put it in the water. I can now do this. I have a friend with me. She convinced herself. She took a deep breath and stepped a tiny bit closer to the water. Then she got an idea. It was a pretty bad idea, but Minnie couldn't be nervous and not do stupid things.
"I-um....." She stopped. Just do it. Get it over with. Or at least try to. She took a deep breath and tried again. "I know it's stupid and a strange thing to say....but would you kinda maybe want to perhaps be my friend?" She blushed. "I mean...if you want to. You know what? Let's pretend I didn't say that. I'll tell you about what I'm sad about instead." She mentally hit herself. But she had said, it, so she should go through with it.
"Okay. I'm sad about who this scarf belonged to. It belonged to my cat. Her name was Opal and she died young, saving a niffler from a fox. She was a very nice and sweet cat, never scratching anyone. She died when I was young, so I'm trying to let go. That's why I'm sad." Minnie looked away as a wave of sadness hit her. She was reminded of after the burial of Opal, when she had been very sad.
Minnie looked at the grave, trying hard not to cry. It was a week after Opal had died, and Minnie still wasn't done crying over it. The burial was bringing back the tears she had recently stopped. She felt a wet tear slide down her cheek. Once one tear had fallen, another one followed. It kept going and she couldn't stop it. Soon tears were sliding down her cheeks. It was too much for her to handle. That was when she saw the scarf.
It had been sewn by her mother with Minnie helping. Made specially for Opal, the scarf had kept Opal warm during all the winter nights. She saw it stuck under some dirt on the gravestone. She picked it up, starting to sob, the tears coming in faster. Minnie grabbed the scarf and held it close to her chest, not wanting to ever let go. She had to keep the memento of Opal near her. She fell to her knees, crying on Opal's grave. "You were an amazing cat Opal. I'm going to miss you forever and ever. You'll always be in my heart, no matter what."
And with her younger self's words, she forced herself out of the memory. She wasn't going to lose Opal by putting her scarf in the lake. Opal would forever be in her heart. And Opal always loved water. She'll like the scarf in a lake. Minnie told herself silently. "I-so the swimming?" She awkwardly asked Tracey. To make things even more awkward, a tear slid down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away. I will not cry. Not anymore. She took another calming, deep, breath. "I'm ready to put my stone in the lake."

So many, many summer days Kyle spent swimming in the waters of his homeland Italy, so many, many more did he spend polar plunging in the winter as well. Kyle was no stranger to the freezing cold waters of winter, Kyle, some would say, had a strange obsession with the water. It was strange how water had so many vast forms; From crystal blue sandy beaches full of positivity and honesty, to the deep abyssal lakes that showed no glimmer, hiding dark secrets no man would ever see..... People were no different from the water, water no different from people.
For most it seemed that Kyle's favorite hobbies were to swim, and cause a storm amongst his peers. In the year he found he was leaving behind he had polar plunged not once, but twice in December, but of course before the waters had freezed over leaving a thin sheet of untrustworthy ice. Just like the lake Kyle was known for his harsh honesty, rebellious nature, rudeness, brave, and confidence. But little did some people know that Kyle was actually a frightened, insecure, hurt little boy.....
It was crazy to believe that only a few months earlier Kyle had been walking on sandy beaches with his large vast family, basking in the sunlight, only to find he was actually in Plato's cave of lies and he had now seen the real sun.... How he wished to be back in the dark of that cave with a different reality than this.... The infidelity that had led to his unplanned birth, the fight that had left him broken, and the death of his biological mother, but had also led to the meeting of true friends.... Kyle let his mind run rampant as he lay on his bed stroking his cat Ziggy, it was nice to know that no matter what, even if people left God and his cat would always be here for him.... Sadly Kyle would soon find out the years would go by in a flash leaving him to the mercy of time, like a rock eroding from the waves.... What would be left from the unknown events to come would leave him a shallow cave himself, with nothing but the darkness....
⊱⑪⊰
Kyle threw on a black tank top and some black swimming trunks for the upcoming event, it didn't take long to find the designated area for the errand as this had become his second home -with the addition to Kyle's wandering when he skipped classes, or weekends-. When Kyle had arrived the supervisor for the event had already begun to explain what they were going to do, Kyle did he best to follow along copying the other students actions as he did. It took Kyle a while to figure out what he wanted to write on his stone, the idea of deth had slowly started to creep into the back of Kyle's mind, slowly corrupting it.... Kyle pushed the dark ideas away quickly immortality, settling on another motive of "Health and safety," if everyone was healthy and safe no one would die..... Right? That's when he noticed an all too familiar face framed with red hair.... A face that didn't seem all that happy to be here.
"Ciao signorina! Hello Miss!" Kyle said walking up to the girl with a friendly smile. It was funny how the two had met at the lake, and at the lake they had met again. "How have you been? Last time we couldn't catch up because your friend @Renelle Dalton stole you away."
Kyle added a small laugh at the end, he hoped to try and ease some of her visible uneasiness, he wasn't sure if it was because maybe it was her first time doing this or some other curious thoughts, nonetheless Kyle didn't want to pry, it wasn't much of his business.
"Did you finish your stone?" Kyle asked hoping to catch a glimpse of any writing, he was quite the nosy character.

Once Tracey had got to the edge of the lake, she turned around and saw Minnie following her. Soon the two girls were standing beside each other, both of them not sure when to jump into the lake. When she heard Minnie speak, she thought about it for a moment before saying,

After she had said that, she saw Minnie step a tiny bit closer to the water, and so Tracey did the same. She then heard Minnie speak, asking her if she'd want to become friends with her. Tracey was about to speak, when she heard Minnie saying what made her sad. Tracey listened carefully, and became sad after hearing Minnie's story. "Thanks f-for telling me about what had made you sad. I-I'm very sorry for your loss. I-I had a pet b-bunny when I was young. H-her name was Stacy, a-and she died, I-I forgot how she died, but it was very tough for me to let go, so I-I fe-feel your pain. A-and I'd love to be friends with you,"

Tracey had been practicing that dive for a while now, and was happy that she was able to perform it correctly two times. After this she'll write an owl to her parents telling her all about meeting Minnie, and doing the front flip dive into the lake.

Thoughts: italicsWhen Kaitlyn noticed the advertisements around Hogwarts about the Polar Plunge, she signed right up. While at the muggle all-girls Catholic boarding school she went to before coming to Hogwarts, St. Ann’s, she had participated in a polar plunge with her best friends twice. So, she was well aware of how the water would sting. Even though they weren’t with her now, she wanted to continue the tradition. It was a nice way for her to feel connected with them despite their distance now.
So, Katie stood outside with the group of students. She wore a pink two-piece bikini and black flip-flops, with a towel draped over her body. She also brought her peacoat for when she needed to warm up afterward. She’d have to remember to run to get hot chocolate afterward to help warm her up. Her brunette hair was tied up in a bun to help keep it out of her way. She was not too nervous about this polar plunge, but was more nervous to be seen around many students in a bikini. Not too many people saw her dressed like that before.
Katie walked over to the pile of rocks, and her fingertips grazed several of them before choosing a flat rock. Taking a pen, she walked a short distance away from the other students and started to think about what she wanted to write on it. This was something for her to leave behind in 2023. It had to be something significant for a resolution like this. Her mind whirled with all of the options available to her.
‘Well, I’m shy, awkward, socially inept, anxious, insecure, lack confidence, suck at magic, and feel like I don’t belong here. I need to choose one that is doable enough to try to improve myself. As much as I’d like to say shyness, I don’t think that’s possible yet … maybe my insecurity? There’s a lot I’m proud of, so it shouldn’t be a stretch to feel more secure about being here at Hogwarts.’
With her mind made up, Katie took the pen and wrote in neat cursive handwriting the word, Insecure.
Smiling, Katie took the cap and replaced it back on the pen. With her rock in hand, she took her towel off, exposing her bikini, placed it and her peacoat where she’d remember it, and slid her feet out of her flip-flops. After they were given the okay to enter, she walked up to the water’s edge, feeling the icy mud between her toes.
Taking a deep breath, Katie simply leaped from the edge of the lake, into the water. Once she hit the water and submerged, she dropped her rock to the floor of the lake. Emerging at the surface a few moments later, she smiled, feeling wide awake from the chill of the water. Right when she was about to get out, she saw a girl her age do a front flip dive into the water. It looked so cool. She waited to see when the girl emerged from the water.
