ACTION:
Drank some fruit punch
AngelFyre had had a busy day. Busy was good right now. Too many heavy thoughts had been weighing her down lately, and more had managed to dogpile themselves on top of her overactive and restless mind since visiting Simon in St. Mungo's over the Christmas break. He had been injured in a very suspicious set of circumstances while visiting his vampiric father, which was bad enough in and of itself, but the part that most troubled her, well one of the parts... jealousy not withstanding... was the fact that her fellow had been missing for days and no one had known it! His "father" stupidly assumed that Simon had simply changed his mind and had not shown up. There is some top notch parenting for you. Her boy had impressively moved heaven and earth to meet the only living half of his parental units, and the guy does not even bother to think that maybe, just maybe, something might have happened to him?

His Aunt Maggie, of course, could not be faulted for not knowing that Simon had not arrived because there was no immediate way to reach him while he was in Babilstow. It would make sense for her to believe that, had Simon not arrived at the appointed place at the designated time, Adrian Hawthorne would have at least inquired about his reason for not showing. That, in turn, would have set off a slew of alarms and triggered a search party. Besides, since it was Adrian himself who brought Simon home, Aunt Maggie had no reason to suspect that Adrian had also been unaware that Simon had been missing for days, that is, up until the moment Simon knocked on his door, days after the fact. And Simon did not tell her.

That left AngelFyre. His seer girlfriend. A uselessly blind seer, apparently, for the whole duration of his disappearance. She, of course, had been tremendously out of sorts over the holiday, but had no concrete vision to work off of to be certain that something was amiss. She simply thought it was only a case of her missing him. A mistake she would not ever make again. That she knew. What she was still a little unclear on was how to make certain to make that a reality, but that did not worry her too much. She had faith she would think of something. She always did.

But now, after having spent part of her morning in her weekly Bible study with her dashing Mr. Kincaid, and happy that they were now back in each other's presence, and would be every day for months to come, AngelFyre hurried to the Great Hall to help with the Prefect preparations. She did not have the permissions yet as a third year to be in the Kitchens baking cookies with the older Prefects and the house elves, but she could help get the Great Hall ready, and she had. She had helped to get the snack tables arranged for the hungry hordes that would soon swarm in for their sugar hits and their post-Christmas camaraderie. She also helped to get the cookie decoration stations set up at the long, family-style house tables.

Everyone had done a beautiful job and it all looked and smelled wonderful. As people began to come in and gather their snacks and make their way to the decorating stations, she took note of one Prefect in particular - Opeila Winters. Opeila had crossed AngelFyre's mind a lot recently, and while they had never really spoken, rumors of course moved through the student body. AngelFyre did not often put store in rumors, but she had heard quite some time back, during her first year maybe, that there had once been a Seer's club at Hogwarts, and Opeila had been the leader... or at least a member. If true, she was the only other seer AngelFyre knew of at Hogwarts. Maybe Opeila would be a place to start to gather some intel on how to harness any of her power, such as it was, to help protect Simon.

Opeila appeared to be hanging back, away from folks, so now was likely not the time to approach her full on about any of it. Maybe AngelFyre could, however, just put out a feeler to see if there would be any hope of picking her brain at a later point in time? But how to approach? As she began to think about it, she grabbed a glass of fruit punch and walked over to a cookie decorating station. Deep in thought while settling herself down, she reached for a couple of gingerbread people and some red and white icing. As she thought about how exactly she would decorate them, she took a sip of her fruit punch and just decided to wing it.

Arriving to help with the event and meeting up with @AngelFyre McCubbin. Open to interaction.

His morning began with a prison break of sorts. During the early morning hours he had taken in John Keats's work "Ode to a Nightingale" which was a quick 300-page read; but not so quick that his rodent of a roommate didn't grow bored and jet from the dormitory of Hogsmeade Home. One excerpt in particular reminded him of his venture over the Christmas break, which he still wasn't quite certain was a dream or a reality, or a little bit of both. Apparently John Keats had been someone who inspired one of his favorite authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, but truly Simon didn't find as much appeal.

Past the near meadows, over the still stream,
Up the hill-side; and now 'tis buried deep
In the next valley-glades:
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?
Fled is that music:—Do I wake or sleep?

As he finished and closed the paperback that had been his company for the prior few hours, he looked forward to the day that would bring him lighter moments than the text did. Today was the day that there would be a gathering in the Great Hall that included cookie making and cookie decorating, all prefects were encouraged to help and he knew if there'd be chocolate of any kind - that his girl would most certainly be eager to attend.

But before Simon could even gather up a fresh set of clothes so he could go to the Prefect's Bathroom to prepare for the day, he noticed that his small gray rat was not slumbering in his hammock that hung in his cage, nor was he anywhere else inside. Simon often kept the door open, at least when he too was in the small room that made up the dormitory space, but Rascal wasn't on the desk, or curled up on Alexa Mackenzie's hufflepuff scarf underneath, or on Simon's bed. He groaned a little and if anyone had been nearby, they would have heard it. "Mate, why do you do this to me, so?"

An extra half hour it would take to find him - searching through his things, his trunk, his bedding. Surely he was still in the small singular dormitory because Simon's door had been closed and there was no window in which Rascal could have made his prison break. No, perhaps not prison break - for it wasn't as if he hated it there; he never had. Still, he had greatly enjoyed his time in London and tasting Aunt Maggie's sweets that she made. He enjoyed all sweets but seemed to adore hers the most and he would bring him back a taste from the event - IF HE COULD JUST GET THERE!

Finally he thought to check his bag and while his enchanted satchel couldn't hold anything living, he had a crocheted pocket sewn on the side for his little furry friend and sure enough, there he was. "It's like you know what's taking place today, innit?" his Cockney accent was coming out as he had just been back in London for some of Christmastime.

"Fine, you can come along so long as you behave," and he looked sternly to the rat who just blinked once before yawning widely and settling cozier into the side pocket before closing his beady little eyes to take slumber. Simon wasn't sure if that was much of a promise.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Cookie making and cookie decorating - it was like being back in London all over again. He grew up around cookie making and cookie decorating because Aunt Maggie worked and owned Crawford's, a bakery/bookstore there ever since he could remember. By the time he got there, a little later than many of the other prefects, there wasn't a need to help make the cookies - merely to ensure that supplies and materials were ready for the others within the Great Hall. That's where he spotted AngelFyre and he approached. "So much sweetness in one year. Why, they could gather all the chocolate, pastries, biscuits, icings, frostings, candies, and sprinkles in the world and place them into a room with you and you'd still be the sweetest thing there," he said as he came behind her and wrapped his arms around her torso, pulling her back toward him a little so he could be closer to her.

When she turned around, he couldn't help but bring his lips to hers for a soft kiss and pulled back, pressing his lips together at the taste of fruit punch. "Definitely the sweetest thing, Sugar Puff."

Thoughts
Other People = Their Hex
Biscuits. Biscuits were very good for morale. And morale was a little here there and everywhere for a certain young Slytherin at the moment. Much had happened over winter break. She’d discovered that two people, people she had interacted with a few times, people she would have never expected to be her blood, were her cousins. It was a little disorienting to say the least. But, Astra was excited to have cousins her age. And to not be the youngest!

She had also discovered that Renelle, her very own partner in crime, had become a prefect! That really threw her for a loop.

Then there was the race just that morning that she had competed in, which had her sort of tired as she made her way to the Great Hall for those wonderful biscuits. Alyssea came and invited Astra to meet her and Raizel there, and Astra had readily agreed. She had also invited Roderick, who had (somewhat surprisingly) accepted. So now the woozy first year who is leaning on the uncharacteristically soft third year are on their way to the Great Hall.

“So you’re meeting… Alice and Raizel?” he asked.

“Alyssea,” Astra corrected as the two turned into the very festive and already bustling Great Hall. “And yes.”

“That’s fun.” Roderick ruffled Astra’s hair lightly. “I’ll grab you some biscuits if you nab me some fruit punch and a couple chocolate frogs.”

Astra gave a mock salute. “Aye aye, mon capitan.” Astra spotted Rai- or, Raizel (she had known the Gryff as Rai for so long it was hard to switch) and Alyssea, swiping about four chocolate frogs as she made her way over. “Hi,” she greeted with a little wave. “Oh, classes? Classes are fine, yeah. Doing well.” Except for Herbology but BESIDES THE POINT-

She then turned to the punchbowl and began to ladle out two glasses. As she turned, a girl with a plate of biscuits walked right into her, throwing the drowsy snake off balance and- oh the horror- spilling not one, but both glasses of punch on each girl.

For a second, Astra just looked. Then- "Dear God, could you watch where you're going?" This simple act should not have annoyed her so much, but perhaps it was her lingering sleepiness or a past experience *cough* Mathias *cough*. In any case, the redhead was more than a little pissed about the punch all over her brand new hoodie.

Alan was quite happy about this little get together they had planned up. Immediately he would find his way to the sweet buffet and grabbed a cookie and a fruit punch, after giving it a quick sniff to ensure it was not spiked. However he could not detect the smell of alcohol and thus was pleased as he found his way over to some friends of his, namely Howard who was sitting with Xailah. "Hey guys, this should be fun," he said before taking a sip of the punch. Noticing Xailah had picked none of the food he tilted his head, "Not a fan of sweets?" he asked curiously before glancing at Howard, who had served himself at the buffet already. His drink looked questionable at best but Alan wouldn't judge him for not being able to make a decision on which drink to pick.

"Have you guys ever decorated cookies before? I used to help all the time at home and it can be really fun," he voiced just to make conversation, before picking up a cookie from the tray and began gathering some of the utensils and spread them out before him to start figuring out what he wanted to do with the cookie that was now in front of him.

There was something to be said about students joining gatherings in this school that seemed just entirely reckless. Would they ever learn to stay away from things that were disguised as promising a fun time? Probably not. After all where was the fun otherwise...

There was of course also something to be said about students that still dared to take food and drinks from the buffets... how many times had that gone bad? How many treats had been spiked at this school? But perhaps it would be different this time, perhaps they would have a fun time, some would hope to make sure of it at the very least.

The Buffet
As Howard took a chocolate frog and enjoyed its chocolatey goodness, he had no qualms mixing some drinks that were perhaps better enjoyed by themselves. After all, mixing drinks? Who does that? But as the pumpkin juice and fruit punch washed down the chocolate he began to feel something else shadow his senses. Something quite unusual as he felt clumsiness overcome him. And as if that was not enough his mind seemed to work at full speed, everything was a riddle, a riddle only he could solve, if only he were to connect all the dots. All the actions, all things, however small, they had to fit into the puzzle of a bigger picture and it was up to him to solve it, after all who else could do it, if not for him?

Nellie who joined the charming dhampir at the table, of course did so with a cookie of their own. At the very least she was decent enough to not mix any of the drinks. As she ate the cookie in the shape of a Christmas tree she started feeling quite refreshed, almost as if she had drunk some coffee or gotten a good nights sleep. Perhaps the feeling of curiosity and just being social that came with a sip of the punch would not even affect her much, that seemed just like her. Perhaps she would feel it more amplified? Whatever would that cause? Zach on the other hand seemed less like a social butterfly so when he took a sip of his pumpkin juice and was attacked by the worst sensation a introvert could ever imagine to experience; an uncontrollable hiccoughs in a public space! The calamity!

Aside from being a rascal and sneakily stealing some sugar pearls, the prefect Pei would also get her hands on an assortment of treats. Taking a bite of the chocolate frog proved uneventful, however as the biscuit crumbled as she devoured the snowflake, she felt an urge for banter and sarcastic commentary become everpresent... has that much changed then? Washing any of it down with the fruit punch just made her feel ever so energized as if she could take on a lion! Or outrun a gazelle? Raizel as she bit into the cookie that had the shape of a little reindeer, found herself overwhelmed with the delicious sweetness, but as soon as she swallowed her first bite, the sweet cookie suddenly tasted very sour, almost as if she was biting straight into the flesh of a lemon. What?? What a funny thing to experience! Rebecca on the other hand would find herself.... well in quite the different situation! Despite the fruit punch being not to her liking, the sugar in it or perhaps something else would lend her some energy that no coffee could have granted her. Yet with that energy came the curse to speak in rhymes, if she were to open her mouth or even think audibly, she was in for quite the surprise!

AngelFyre deep in thought, would take a sip of her fruit punch and find herself quite social and urgently curious about the business of others. Well holding back from conversation seemed hardly like a good course of action anymore, if it went after her, she would want to speak to everyone at once! Befriend them all and find out all their deepest secrets! Simon found to his sweetheart quickly, perhaps presenting the perfect opportunity for her new found curiosity. He after all felt energized and thus would have all the energy to listen to her talk for hours, or run or.... whatever he could do to get rid of this excess of energy he had been overcome with!

Astra, spilling punch on herself and Bex, dousing them in the sugary liquid, woud probably have to rethink how careless she wanted to run around with two full glasses.
Avoiding Wet Status: DC 10 (Evasion)
Astra: [d20:5] + 5 = 10, success
Bex: [d20:6] + 3 = 9, fail
→ Bex has the Wet Status (see duelling rules)
While Astra managed to avoid most of the damage and only got splashed with a bit of the liquid, most of it would find its way onto one unassuming Rebecca Lark, one might be curious to hear what poem she would come up with in response to this unwelcome surprise!

Meanwhile Alan would find himself feeling quite clumsy upon arriving at the table Howard, Xai and Nellie were occupying.

Alyssea hummed as the girls responded to her question. There's not much with the new year and returning from winter break. She focused more on her cookie decorating, filling in the tree she made with the green icing, picking up more colours for tree decorations, and sprinkling a few pearls onto it in a calculated manner. Taking a brief moment to admire her creation, Alyssea raised it up for Raizel to see before taking a bite.

Then, she saw Raizel's expression sour (quite literally) after eating her own cookie. "You okay? Is the cookie not nice?" Perhaps Alyssea missed something about these events. Or maybe the elves accidentally mixed up ingredients and made some not-nice cookies. The food at the Fall Ball had been fine, though, so what was going on here?

Alyssea got up from her chair. "Let's wash it down with something nice. Would you rather pumpkin juice or fruit punch?"

Once she got Raizel's "order", Alyssea headed to the drinks table and poured two cups, whatever Raizel wanted and a fruit punch for herself. Carrying each cup in hand, she took a second to look at the commotion around the place. She sighed. Of course, there just had to be some drama. Not only that, her other cousin was in the middle of it. Alyssea made a mental note to go check up on her once she delivered Raizel's drink.

Alyssea passed Raizel her drink as the Hufflepuff drank her own.

Siobhan hadn't meant to stumble upon the cookie event, but there had been a delightful smell radiating from the Great Hall which caused her to momentarily stop and pull her face from the middle of her textbook. She wandered over to the door with curiosity, craning her neck to see what there might be in store for her if she chose to wander inside.

From the door she could see a table full of drinks, snacks and bowls full of candy and icing. The closest students sat to the entrance of the hall were chatting happily as they decorated what looked like biscuits or cookies with the provided ingredients.

A cookie decorating event? Sounds wonderful! Siobhan happily skipped inside to help herself to a plate of decorations and a cookie. She settled herself at the Gryffindor table and began to decorate the cookie with the decorations she had picked out. Of course, she didn't have the biggest sweet tooth but she did pick out some peppermint candies, a few different colors of icing, and sprinkles to decorate with. She was a fan of the aestheticly pleasing sort of way. Something that was simple yet elegant.

As she decorated she took in the sights of the Great Hall. She had missed it terribly over the holiday break and she was happy to see that it was still decorated with the baubles and laurels of the holidays. It made for a very cozy atmosphere to decorate in and she was comforted by the knowledge that there were other students present but not partaking in the activity for anything other than the happiness of cookies.

She couldn't help but take small bites of her decorations as she decorated. How could she help herself? After all she was only young once. And there was a plethora of deliciousness.

One would expect for a cookie to be overwhelming with sweetness but no. Forget about a cookie, it might as well be a lemon covered in cookie batter and baked in an oven with how sour it was at the end, almost making Raizel spit it out but she endured it, clenching her hand hard before swallowing. It wasn't just ‘Not nice’, it was horrible. Perhaps with all the food that she tasted in events like the balls had been good, she had lowered her guard down when it came to Hogwarts food. How could she forget the very reason why she is carrying with her bottles of Antidotes to Uncommon Poison? Well, at least she didn't ingest any poison but still.

“N-No.” She managed to say before coughing, the sourness lingering in her mouth. “Too sour.” No, she's not finishing that cookie any longer. She dropped it, raising her hand as if telling she's surrendering. A drink would surely be nice right now and hopefully, this one doesn't have any weird taste from whatever they put in that cookie. Probably a juice of freshly squeezed lemon if she takes a guess. “I uh… just a pumpkin juice.” she told Alyssea, shuddering at the sourness that she could still taste and she doubts it's gonna fade anytime soon.

“Nasty…” she uttered, looking over to see where Astra was as she just heard her and saw how her drink was spilled on a familiar looking Ravenclaw while the Slytherin girl was spared from the unfortunate event. “Oh wow.” Was all Raizel could say, finding it amusing that someone seems to be having bad luck, turning her head to Alyssea once she brought her a drink. “Thanks.” Immediately, the Gryffindor chugged it down, wanting to wash away the sour taste from that lemon-disguised sweet.

Koko often forgot how much she used to enjoy busy, bustling places. She usually shied away from the inevitable shoulder-brushing and foot-tripping that came with crowds, but she had tried for so long to get used to crowds again ─ and here she was, admittedly drawn in by the promise of biscuits and sweets. Her nose would never grow tired of the sweet, homely aroma that now wafted through the warm, glittering Great Hall.

Hogwarts never lost its magic during the holidays; in fact, as Koko glanced upwards, the twinkling of the candles almost looked like snowflakes hanging in the air. The mouthwatering scent of the freshly-baked biscuits reminded her of her home before her parents' divorce, and she could almost imagine herself as a little kid again, before she even went to Hogwarts, before she was so scared. She glanced around and, almost as a New Year's resolution, decided that, at least for today, she would be like she was before.

Thus, her previously-neutral expression shifted into a small smile that, this time, reached her eyes, and she sauntered over to one of the tables that was full of sweets. Her soft smile widened into a brazen grin as her deft fingers swiftly placed three sugar canes and two undecorated biscuits on her plate. She took a cup of pumpkin juice and searched for a spot to decorate, only now becoming aware of how many people had simply flooded the Great Hall.

After finding a small empty place at a table, Koko set her things down and took a gulp of pumpkin juice. Goodness, she was parched! It had to be due to her pushing herself out of her comfort zone. She took another drink and sighed to herself before bringing back her everlasting smile. She would interact with people, she promised herself, but for now, she reached out for supplies to decorate the biscuits on her plate.

Howard would revel in the moment as the chocolatey goodness coated his mouth. Thank goodness that there was a magical cure for almost any ailment as his love for sweets might one day spell his undoing, but cavities and diabetes be damned, he was couldn’t get enough! Many may look to his drink of mixed pumpkin and fruit juice and question his sense of taste, but exploration in the gastronomical arts was essential to progress and as he washed down his chocolate, Howard was quite pleased. Though the food and beverage were always great, it would be the ambience and company that really warmed his heart and soul. The first to join him would be his new first year friend, @Nellie Lam.

“Hey, Nellie!” Howard greeted her enthusiastically and raised his glass in cheer. However, before they could properly toast each other, Nellie wanted to clear one thing up. His name Howard simply would not do. Too formal? Too adult sounding perhaps? He had never had much a problem with his name, but he did often think of his father when the name was spoken. Her suggestion was one that brought back memories of his younger years. “Howie, eh? Been a while since anyone has called me that, but I say yes!” He chuckled at the thought of it. There was a phase he went through where he thought the name too juvenile, but that seemed ridiculous now.

Speaking of his youth, Howard and company were soon joined by one of his oldest friends, @Alan Vanes! “Alan, m’boy!” He slung an arm around his best mate and gave a squeeze of Alan would allow it. “Hey! Let me introduce you to Nellie. One our newest Hifflepuffs and a prospective Quidditch player. Best house, best sport, what’s not to like.” Howard took a playful dig at Alan and offered him a wink. He loved Gryffindors and dueling, but couldn’t pass up a chance for a bit of teasing before polishing off his juice cup.

The next moment would come in a rush as a peculiar feeling washed over Howard. He was quite often sure of himself physically, but all of the sudden he felt really clumsy. His fingers moved slower than they should as if they were suddenly made of jelly. His arms felt sluggish and his legs all tingly. However, as his body began to fail him his mind would race like he had just ingested a concentrated dose of Baruffio’s Brain Elixir. Howard looked to his friends with quite the curious look and Alan’s next question would be met with absolute scrutiny.

Have you guys ever decorated cookies before? I used to help all the time at home and it can be really fun.

Howard would place both hands down on the table with a bit of a slam. His plate of sweets would go toppling over and his empty juice cup went clanging to the floor. What could it all mean?! His mind raced for an answer to this most troubling riddle. “Decorated cookies? Help at home? It can be really fun?” Howard repeated the words aloud as he thought them over. Surely this was some test cooked up by Alan to gauge his wits! Yet as he looked around all he could see was puzzles. They had all conspired against him surely! The students, the staff, even the damn ghosts! Why were the plates arranged in such a pattern?! And the color schemes all had deeper meaning! Soon enough his head would fall into his hands as it all threatened to overwhelm him. “What does it all mean?! Wait!” Howard shot up. “No! That’s not it!” His head went back down before popping up again a long index finger pointing up into the air! “It’s a Christmas party!” His look of elation would deflate as he looked around. “No! We’re having a Christmas party right now! Merlin’s beard, I don’t know!” Howard slumped back down as he admitted defeat.
