There was just something about it, the change of your style, the smiles and compliments in the hallways from people you barely knew that made dying her hair just so enjoyable. Not to mention the fact that it made her hair feel hers - no longer the long locks of a damsel in distress but the colourful curls of a princess.
Most of the time, Es used semi-permanent dye - it was easier to change when she wanted a new look and it didn't damage her hair as much as a permanent dye, but she still had some permanent dye for pranks and the like. Most of the dye in her hair had faded, leaving it closer to its natural pale blond.
The question was, as it always was, which colour? She had had ombre half blue/half pink for a while and really liked the pink, but wasn't sure about the blue. She could always chalk her hair to test out another colour, but she kind of couldn't be bothered, and she was really in love with the pink. Pink, it seemed, was the way to go.
So Estelle got to work, putting on the plastic gloves in her dye kit, before pulling out a paintbrush to paint the dye onto her hair with. Some people used a liquid dye and dip-dyed it, and although she had some (for a prank she had done), she preferred using a paste dye as it meant she had more control about where it went.
Estelle painted her hair, before wrapping it in tin foil to develop. Half an hour should do it, and she had brought a book for just that purpose, but currently the sink looked like the colour pink had threw up in it, so she began to clean up her mess.

To Dye or not to Dye
, After my amazing astronomy class, my favourite class IC and OOC I casually walked towards the restroom to freshen up before going for a leisurely stroll. Upon entering, I spotted Estelle Nyx, a griffindoor in her second year, who is known for frequently changing her hair color and had foils in her hair this time! "Hey Estelle, what shade are you aiming for this time?" I politely inquired while washing my hands and fixing my makeup. As I glanced at the sink, I couldn't help but notice a massive amount of hair dye. "Oh wow, you've got quite a stash of hair dye there!" I exclaimed with a chuckle. "I've always had the desire to dye my hair too, but I'm a bit concerned about the outcome. Plus, I can't seem to make up my mind about which color to choose!" I whispered the last part to myself.I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement at the thought of possibly dying my hair. Maybe it was time to step out of my comfort zone and branch out. I start thinking about different colours I could do. Maybe blue? Or pink? Or purple? Or maybe I could do multiple colours! That would be cool to have ombré hair I think to myself lost in my thoughts

"I'm going with an ombre pink this time - I preferred the pink over the blue in my last dye so I figured I'd keep it."
Estelle went back to tidying away her dye until Aliana replied, to which Estelle responded
"Well, if you want to dye your hair, I'll gladly help you. Also, most of my dyes are semi-permanent so they wash out in a week or two. I have a few permanent ones if you want them to last longer and some hair chalk if you're just trying out colours.
Picking a colour is easier than you'd think - rather than working by choosing one, you should eliminate the choices until there's one or two left that you'd really like.
Also, if you're not sure about dying, I have hair chalk which lasts for a day but shows the colour your hair would be if you dyed it - if I'm not sure about the colour I want to do next, I'll try it with chalk.
So yeah! If you want to dye your hair, I'm totally up for helping you. The only thing is, you might not want to get your clothes dirty, although I have some rainbow tied die tops that I use for this exact reason that you can borrow."
Estelle looked down at her top. It was tie dyed rainbow, but it had splotches of various dyes from the different colours she'd dyed her hair. She always wore that top for dying - rather than worrying about staining her clothes, it was fun to let the top stain naturally, making the dye part of the pattern.

I grinned, admiring Estelle's vibrant tie-dye top adorned with colorful splotches. "Your style is always so creative, Estelle. I love the idea of letting the dye become part of the pattern on your top."
I paused, glancing at Estelle's assortment of dyes. "Ombre pink sounds tempting, especially with your touch. I've been thinking about trying something new, and your offer to help is really sweet. Maybe I'll go for a semi-permanent dye this time."
I continued, "I appreciate your advice on picking a color. Eliminating choices makes sense; I'll keep that in mind. And the hair chalk idea is brilliant! Testing it out and seeing what I want before committing is a smart way to ensure I'm happy with the color. I'd love to give it a try! Maybe we do pink, blue and purple hair chalk to start off and then use semi permanent dye on teh one we like the most?"
As Estelle mentioned potential clothing stains, I chuckled. "Your tie-dye tops are a genius solution. I'd be happy to borrow one while we work on my hair." I nod.
“So yes let’s start with teh hair chalk and see what we like from there! If there’s one we really like I’d love to dye my hair that colour!!” I say excitedly dancing around slightly at the exciting thought of this change to my appearance.

With that thought, Estelle gave the top to Aliana and picked up the pink chalk.
"I think we'll start with the pink chalk. For reference, the chalk gives you an idea of what it would be like if you dyed your hair without bleaching it first - it's often a darker or lighter colour than you'd expect, but it's useful to determine whether to dye or bleach and dye and it can sometimes lead to new and exciting colours that you wouldn't expect to see in your hair. The more chalk that you use, the closer your hair colour becomes to the colour of the chalk."
Estelle figured it was probably time to start chalking. She dipped her chalk in the water and began to stroke it onto Aliana's hair, leaving streaks of pink behind it.
She talked as she worked, eager to share her stories and hoping that her rambling would put Aliana at ease.
"I tried to chalk my hair brown once, but instead of ending up a mousy brown like I was aiming for, it turned more of a dark ginger - my blonde hair lightened it! Still, it turned out better than I expected - the ginger actually suited me more than the brown would have and I kept the chalk in for the next few days. I wish I could have dyed it that colour, but if I had, I would no longer be able to dye my hair as it would be too dark. Maybe one day though!
Anyway, it's done!"
Estelle gestured to the mirror for Aliana to have a look. It was a darker pink than the chalk, but it suited Aliana very well.

To Dye or not to Dye
I laugh as she tells her story about her mousy brown turned dark ginger hair. “Yeah that’s why I’m kinda nervous to dye my hair I don’t know how it will turn out.” I say continuing to make conversation with her in a polite manner. I take a look at the darker pink hair chalk Estelle did for me and immediately fall in love with it. The way the dark pink almost magenta hair complements my features. It brings out a more feminine side to me. It also makes me almost look older in a sense. The way it brings out my eyes and pale skin I am completely in love with the colour. “Omg Estelle this is literally perfect!! Could you possibly dye it this Color for me?” I ask excitedly. The thought of having my hair dyed and making a big change to my appearance makes me very happy and over joyed. I imagine walking through the hallways with my dyed hair. I think about perhaps even getting some new makeup and clothes to go with it. Make a full change in my style. I get super excited at the thought of this then glance into the mirror again stroking my hair and looking at it adoringly.

So it didn't come as a surprise when Aliana asked to have her hair dyed that colour.
Estelle agreed, pulling out some of her pink dye. As Estelle wasn't bleaching Aliana's hair, the pink dye would work much better strait onto her hair than if she had bleached and dyed Aliana's hair before dying - it would be so much harder to find the right colour if she had.
Estelle put on the plastic gloves and began to massage the dye into Aliana's hair. She felt the thrill of anticipation - she was very excited to see the finished product.
But first, there was a lot of waiting to be done. Although actually dying the hair didn't take long, it had to be left to develop for half an hour before washing the excess out. Luckily, Estelle was nearly done with her own hair and that would take a while to wash and dry, so the half hour would hopefully fly by.
Estelle put Aliana's hair into strips of tin foil which she pinned up with hair grips. It looked quite entertaining. Estelle supposed that must be what she looked like too, right then.
"I've dyed it and put it in to foil strips to let develop. It should take about half an hour and then we can wash it out. After that, I'll dry your hair and then we'll be all done! Is that alright?"
