Estelle sat in the courtyard, reading the new sequel to her favourite series. It had everything she wanted - her favourite characters in her favourite genre, plenty of the goofy shenanigans she knew and loved. She couldn't wish for anything more, really.
Estelle liked reading in the courtyard. Although it was cold - December rarely disappointed on that front - it was dry, and Es could sit on the cobbles without getting her coat muddy. Also, there weren't that many people out due to the cold, leaving Es able to read without fear of distraction.
Estelle put down her book for a moment, watching one of the few leaves remaining on the tree above her slowly fall. It drifted softly down, untouched by wind. It was quite a contrast from the last few days - sometimes you only had to stand in the rain for thirty seconds to get absolutely drenched. Still, come rain or shine, Es loved whatever weather life threw her way. Peaceful days like this were ideal for relaxing and rainy days were perfect for practising her crochet skills.
Estelle glanced up. The sun had already begun to set and was casting golden rays across the courtyard, making everything seem as if it was made of liquid gold. She would probably have to go in soon - she didn't usually stay after it got dark - she couldn't read her book and the bedroom in the castle was warm and cosy.

What's in a name?

If there’s one way to describe Lucie right now in one word, it would be bored. Noa and Aliana are somewhere studying and Lucie can’t find any of their other friends, so they decide that an adventure is due.
It can’t be too extreme because if they get hurt, they’d be scolded by their sister and promptly told I told you so over and over again. They walk through the strangely quiet corridors and make their way out to the courtyard, which surprisingly has one person there.
A girl with blonde hair and dyed ends sits a few feet from where Lucie stands, if it had been any other person Lucie would smile and talk to the person as if they’d been friends for years. However, the girl just so happens to be Estelle Nyx, her last name is connected to a family of blood purists, and that alone has Lucie walking on eggshells.
Despite being a pureblood themself, Lucie has many halfblood friends and something about people who have no control of their blood status being discriminated against makes Lucie’s blood boil.
Lucie walks towards the girl with as much confidence as they can muster up, upon close observation the girl seems pretty nice but that’s not enough to start the impulsive person that is Lucielia Victoria Night-Cortez.
”Hey, why exactly does your family discriminate against Muggleborns and Halfbloods? They have no control of their blood status, and they don’t deserve to be treated rudely just because they’re different.” They originally came over to blatantly tell her that her beliefs are completely but they ended up ranting, now that Lucie thinks about it, they don’t really know what Estelle’s blood status is but that’s not their main focus right now.
The sun’s rays momentarily distract Lucie from the older girl but they look at the girl with their head held high and their hands on their hips.
After a few seconds the pose got a little tiring so Lucie sat next to the blonde who has their full attention.

Estelle jumped as a girl popped out of seemingly nowhere, asking her a question that filled her with fear.
She glanced up at the girl nervously. Usually she'd quickly fire back an answer but today she'd been caught off guard by this girl.
"Um... let's see. They discriminate against half-bloods, don't let their children marry muggles and if they do they disown them. They refuse to do business with the magical races and basically only interact with other purebloods. The children are nice, and don't believe as strongly as their parents, but they have only really interacted with purebloods and so they follow the same beliefs. The parents are unforgiving and will dislike you based purely on your blood status or magical race."
Estelle held up a hand to stop whatever this girl was about to say.
"But that's not me. I may carry their name, but my father was one of those examples. He married my mother, a beautiful, kind, caring woman who happened to be a muggle and for that he was disowned from the family. I am a half-blood and I grew up in a muggle primary school. I believe that no matter your race and blood status, everyone should be treated equally and fairly. I want to become a magiczoologist and to help create a world like that when I finish school.
Have a go at me if you will."
Estelle looked up at the girl, waiting for the inevitable protest and moment of realisation
