Closed SPECTATOR BROOM RACING - RAVENCLAW vs HUFFLEPUFF - FALL 2023

Alyssea sprinted towards the spectator stands, almost tripping over her own feet while clutching her jacket close to her (she just had to choose an incredibly thin jacket for this weather) and Helena right behind her. Alyssea didn't have enough hands to also drag Landon so she hoped he was close behind. She was there to support her team, of course. Helena and Landon? Alyssea just wanted to bring someone for emotional support. Bit lonely and boring sitting on the stands alone, wouldn't it?

To put it bluntly, Alyssea was shaking in her boots for this race. Having recently been inducted into the role of co-captain, she studied old strategies and almost broke many bones on several occasions during team practice in an attempt to be knowledgeable about the sport. Duelling was easy to learn since it was just figuring out who was the best person to hit and what. Racing? Everything and everyone is out to get you and you just have to pray it won't be the last breath you take.

They sat down together and Alyssea gave a quick shout. "You got this!" By the end of this race, she might not have a voice left. Oh well. She had a team to support and she wouldn't back down from it.

It had taken a small amount of convincing, but Alyssea had gotten Landon to agree to attend the broom races today. It wasn't that he didn't want to go, it was that the weather wasn't very good. The rain had delayed the races for a while, but once the weather had calmed a little, he was convinced to go. He had been wearing just some comfortable clothes to spend time around the Hufflepuff dorms and common room, but he went back to his dorm room and changed into a Hufflepuff yellow sweater. He grabbed a black jacket to pull over the sweater in case the weather was still cold and went out to the common room to meet Alyssea. It looked like Alyssea had convinced Helena to join them and he smiled at her when he saw her. Before too long, Alyssea was leading them toward the spectator stands, moving quickly. He slipped a little in the mud as he made an effort to keep up with her and Helena, but he didn't fall down, thankfully. It was still gloomy outside, but moving quickly like this made Landon feel almost warm enough to tug off his jacket. He glanced toward the girls. "If either of you get cold, I can loan you my jacket," he said sweetly. He didn't know if they would take him up on that offer, but his sweater was nice and warm. Landon sat down with Alyssea and Helena and jumped a little as Alyssea shouted to cheer the team on. He hadn't been expecting the sudden loudness, but he relaxed quickly. He smiled widely and looked around. "So... what do I need to know about broom racing?" he asked Alyssea. He had neglected to watch the races last year during his first year.

Alyssea was very tempted to ask for Landon's jacket but she felt a bit embarrassed to have to rely on him like that. It was her own fault that she'd picked a nice jacket over a warm one. Besides, the adrenaline from yelling and watching the race would warm her up eventually.

She took a deep breath. Just do everything we practised, she thought as June called for them to go. Sure enough, the blindfolds went up and she screamed, "YES!" as they hit their targets. It was good to see Reyna zooming despite being the youngest, too.

She kept her eyes on the track as she answered Landon's question. "Sorry. Anyways, broom racing is basically, everyone is trying to reach the finish line first. Simple. But! You're allowed to cast spells at people while flying. Oh, and there's obstacles," Alyssea went on as she pointed to the thorns that Simon and Reyna had, unfortunately, caught themselves in. She winced knowing the scratches would sting later on.

She liked calling it the sport where everything and everyone was out to get you. Maybe it was a good thing she was a duellist since she only had the energy to deal with dodging spells and casting them for now. Maybe after watching a few more races, her brain will be wired to deal with it.

Helena planned for the chilly weather wearing a rather fluffy yellow and plaid jacket with a pencil skirt and black leggings. Though how she got conned into going with her two older Badger housemates she had no idea.

Everything went pretty fast one second she was being dragged by Alyssea the next second they were already in the stands watching the broom racers racing by quickly on their brooms.

Helena’s ocean blue eyes watched in amazement as the competing teams seemed to race quickly. Stealing the girls full attention. She did hear her friends in the background speaking of what not really sure Helena was embarrassed to say she was too focused on the race that was unfolding in front of the trio of badgers.

Instead of sitting down Helena stood up clapping her hands together feeling excited to watch the racers as they began to speed off.

The golden haired girl grew a wide grin as she glanced over towards her friends with a bright smile on her face. Helena was not much into sports, but for some reason watching others race on their brooms seemed to light a flame inside of her.

Blinking slightly Helena realized that Alyssea and Landon must have been talking which caught the young girl off track smiling sheepishly. Helena rubbed the back of her head as she gazed over at her fellow peers.

“What did I miss?”

The young girl spoke rather sheepishly as she continued to rub the back of her head staring over at her friends. She did not mean to seem rude or anything the young girl just got lost in the race and well it consumed her whole mind in away.

Landon noticed that Alyssea was shivering and he frowned. He tugged his jacket off and held it out to Alyssea. "Hey, take it," he said softly. "You are clearly cold and I don't need it yet," he offered. He didn't want his friends to be cold. Landon was comfortable at the moment, thanks to the sweater he was already wearing. However, Alyssea declined to take his jacket and Landon sighed and shrugged. He put the jacket back on, a little disappointed that she was too stubborn to ask for his jacket. Landon wasn't going to force it though. Landon jumped a little as Alyssea yelled, but he knew how much she really liked the sport. He grinned a little, her enthusiasm was a bit infectious, even if he really didn't know what was going on. He listened as Alyssea explained a little of what was going on. "So it's basically chaos?" he observed. "Couldn't people get really hurt?" he added. He didn't really want to see something bad happen to other people. Landon looked over at Helena and noticed how excited she seemed to be watching the sport too. He still was on the fence about what he thought about broom racing. It seemed so dangerous! He smiled at Helena as she asked what she had missed. "Alyssea was just explaining what was going on," he answered. He turned to watch the sport again, wincing as the violence seemed to continue. Out of the two broom sports at Hogwarts, this one just wasn't the one for Landon. Sure, Quidditch could be dangerous too, but it seemed much more straight forward to Landon. Landon gasped as he watched, his eyes wide. He didn't want to see anyone get hurt, but he knew that there was no way that people could participate in this sport without getting hurt. Landon covered his eyes at times, not wanting to see what happened next. He started to relax a little as he pulled his hands back down, trying to get into the sport. It was pretty exciting, he would give it that. It was just so intense.
