2023/24, Stage 1 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4

Concentrating, Ruby sent a Knockback Jinx at both of the Ravenclaws. It only hit one, but that had to be good enough for now as she tried, unsuccessfully, to get out of the way of the two spells heading for her. There was another stream of water followed by a Wind Jinx that battered her, leaving her standing there with her concentration and awareness wavering as a feeling of lightheadedness took over. Her expression was blank, lacking any of the hostility or taunting arrogance that had previously been present. She couldn’t even bring herself to be angry at the situation, she was just tired…

The Chaos.

Meenauh loved it. The comprehensive variability of spells, targeting and outcome, which was totally unpredictable.

Damion was still on the ground, trying to get up, while Hanako started to cover the Ravenclaws in the thick fog. Everything else was unfolding in the mere seconds, while there was still some sort of visibility.

Opeila tried to do something spectacular, she could feel it, but unfortunately her wand (or what else) failed her, and no spell was produced. Probably, a split Ventus, not less!

Ruby was not looking good (no change there), so she threw up a shield and on time. Cassius was casting some nasty crackers at Hanako and thanks to luck, it didn't affect him. The jinx hit Hanako nicely, and spread to first Opeila, causing some uncertainty, and then to Ruby, who masterfully reversed the spell towards Cassius. And in the thickening fog he felt something was off, and it was not the effect of the fog.

He did his best to cover for the incoming sparks, knowing full well he was unable to do anything but take the damage. He let out a haggard cough, as the worst of the blast was over. But the effect was evident in the way he started to sway a little from his spot. The lights seemed unnecessarily brighter, accompanied by the subtle headache that was starting to kick in. Damn. How did simple spells work again? The concentration was slipping through his fingers like sand. Barely having the energy to triumph over his thick fog. He peered into the smoke, his heightened senses knowing a rough feeling where they were standing.

Bigger question is; was it enough?

Damion was hit and was knocked down. He was glad that he didn't get knocked out. He was hoping he'd be standing. He glanced over to the other member of his team and smiled. He was hoping that both of them would stick around till the end. He pointed his wand was ready for more duelling.

After two more than good casts (even if one missed) something had to go wrong. Hanako created some fog, she heard Ruby cast a shield and Opeila... Opeila did nothing. Nothing happened when she said the incantation, she wasn't even sure where she went wrong, but- nothing. Slightly embarrassed, the Slytherin looked at her wand. This felt like a beginner's mistake, nothing that should happen to a tenured duellist like herself.

"Nec Divinos Crepitus!"

It was time to change things up. The Cracker Jinx had been in Cassius’ arsenal, so to speak, since his third year but it remained unused until now. Far too often it seemed all of duelling was ventus this or flipendo that. Effective spells but ultimately boring. They were already down a teammate so why not add some spice to the proceedings?

It was largely successful too if one could ignore the rebounded crackers that crackled distractingly at Cassius’ feet. An inconvenient nuisance although one shared by two of his opponents. That was at least a small saving grace as fog consumed the pair of Ravenclaw. Had it not been a duel he might have thanked Hanako for the reminder of home.

Mustering what little energy and concentration she had left, Ruby created a shield once more—although was it just futile at this point if she was barely able to get herself to cast? No, it may have just been prolonging the inevitable, but damn it, she couldn’t give up now. She watched the explosion of the Wizard Crackers as it drew near, impacting her teammates and rebounding off of her shield back towards the Ravenclaws. Under normal circumstances, she might have felt satisfied at the ideal result of the shield, but she just stared, watching the fog cloud the stage, focusing on keeping her breathing steady and staying on her feet. She barely even registered that one of her team’s spells hadn’t been successfully cast. Keep it together, she willed herself. Surely she could keep going a little longer.

UPD: Fog is removed at the end of the round, so all its debuffs still apply in this round. So, based on the recalculaton, Damion got hit, so his status is updated, total health is updated.

Sometimes, defence was the best option. Especially when you know you will be the only target in the next couple of seconds.

The barrage of Slytherin spells went towards the fog, trying to hit anyone. The hope to hit was weak, but the chances sometimes play bad jokes. But not this time. This time the jokes were very good.

Ruby and Opeila both cast Flipendos and both of them were just absorbed by the nicely timed shield that Cassius quickly raised. Hanako went with a bit more complicated spell and tried to send a gust of wind. But not just a gust of wind — The Gust of Wind. It split halfway, as if it was the natural behaviour of the spell. One went towards Damion, who failed to dodge it. It seemed Hanako could see through the fog really well. The hit was painful and disorientating. The other one went into the shield, but did not dissipate the same way the others did. Cassius turned it in a certain angle that it richocheted towards Opeila but with such quick speed and such perfect precision that she stood no chance but getting hit with a perfected gust of wind. It hit her harder than it would usually hit and send her back into disorientation.

All Damion could do was to remove the fog with the counter-spell as soon as possible, as it didn't seem like they could be hiding there well. If only he could do it earlier.

Damion doing better than before. He pointed his wand and cast the spell "Meteolojinx Recanto" A smile appeared on his face when the fog had cleared up. He was glad that now he could see what his partner and captain was doing. He was happy that the Captain had cast a successful Protego spell and protected himself with the attacks from the Slytherin students.

If the Ravenclaw’s didn’t finish him off first, he would bet his own teammates would gladly do it. It was textbook perfect. He felt the spell split into two, one narrowly missing Damion and the other with a perfect accuracy landed on… oh no.. . The fog was a better ally than these two ever could be to him. Right after sensing a perfect spell was coming, he made the bold decision to aim at both the Ravenclaws. A skill his other teammates excelled at more naturally. Damion still shrouded in the fog, his ear tried to pick up the faintest movement, the slightest shift that would give away his position. There.

The spell almost missed Damion, but the fog dissipating, Hanako let out an exhausted -relieved- breath that he was hit. His original target was a different story. Hanako had a feeling it would've hit. Eagerness evident in his eyes as he saw the spell fling towards Cassius. Only to be met with.. a shied. But his spell didn't vanish.. it went.. oh.. oh no..

The spell hit Winters and he didn’t know what he ought to do first. Send her a remark about not dodging the spell, or fear for his own state of health from what his teammates would do to him. Hanako chose the former. Rolling his eyes, as if it was Winter’s fault that she couldn’t dodge his spell despite its terrifying precision. If anyone (and only if) were to give him a piece of their mind right now (specially his own teammates) , he would tiredly, - childishly- unapologetically- stick his tongue out.

He was not the most classy, for sure. But more than that, he certainly wasn’t in the mood for much at the moment. And he would argue that perhaps his teammates shared the same sentiment.
