Without thinking, as soon as Madison felt herself be free from the Grindylow, she swam as fast as she could to the shore and sat down away from the edge of the lake. Once she had gotten her breath back, she sat there for a while, trying to figure out everything that just happened. At one point she was in the boat with her friends, the next minute she was underwater being held by a Grindylow for what seemed like forever and the next minute she was out and back on the shore.
Great, my dress is soaked, my makeup is ruined and i'm cold Madison thought to herself. As she walked along the shore trying to get to grips with her surroundings and rinsing the excess water out of her dress and hair, Madison took off her other shoe, now holding both in her hands. Her dress was soaked, her shoes were soaked and don't even get her started on her hair, however once Madison got back to her dorm room, all of that would be easily fixed.

As Madison was walking, she saw Alyssea and smiled, giving her a hug since Alyssea was one of Madison's close friends. "It's ok Alyssea, these things happen, I'm going to go find Landon and see if he's ok, as well as try to find Helena. I'll catch up with you later in the common room ok?" Madison says, handing Alyssea a blanket and giving her another hug.

Helena helped me out of the water, but where is she? Madison thinks to herself, trying to find Landon Matthews, a Hufflepuff she'd met earlier, who she gathered was good friends with Helena. Oh no, did Helena fall into the water after trying to help me? Well, there are no professors here at the moment, let's go find Landon, then try to get Helena out of the water and then go to our dorm, get freshened up and go to sleep Madison thinks to herself.

Once she did find Landon, she realised that he'd probably be in shock from being in the water, so she found them each a blanket, walked over to him and sat beside him, handing him one of the blankets. "Hey Landon, I'm Madison, we met earlier and were in the same boat on the lake together" she said, hoping it will jog his memory. After a few more minutes, Madi, who was starting to warm up, remembered why she came over to Landon.
"Landon, I need to save Helena, she got taken into the lake by those Grindylows after she helped get me out, but I can't save her on my own, I need you to help me, please?" Madison asked with a smile.

She genuinely thought this was the end. Whatever strength she had just disappeared into thin waters (ha, get it? No?). Maybe that was why she struggled to escape earlier. Too much time underwater and not enough oxygen getting to her brain, her heart, and her muscles.

So when a voice started speaking to her, she thought that was it. She would never get to say goodbye to her brother, mother, or father. She would never get a chance to be on that piste or in the skies representing her house. But thankfully, Life wasn't ready to let go of her just yet. Opening her eyes to see some guy with a bubble around his head, a pang of jealousy hit her heart. She didn't let herself ponder it for too long, however, as the man instructed her clearly on what she was supposed to do. Make a break for the surface, get to shore, and don't get caught by another creature. Alyssea wanted to nod, but she could feel her energy leave her and so she just followed his lead.

The violent tug of the creature off her body would've been a shock if hope hadn't come for her first. Just as he told her, she mustered the last bits of strength she had left and kicked towards the surface. How far had that creature dragged her down? Desperately, she kicked and kicked and kicked. Her vision almost went black before her hands met the cold autumn air.

Alyssea sputtered and coughed as the water she breathed in earlier exited her nasal passages. Blinking away the water, she was almost blinded by a bright light. She squinted. Who were they? Was it finally the professors saving everyone?

Swim as hard as you can to the shore. The man's words echoed in her brain. Alyssea turned to the shore and kicked as hard as she could. She didn't realize how far their boat had taken them. And by 'their', she meant herself, Madison, Landon, Rodney, and Helena. Alyssea almost paused to look for them, knowing they met the same fate as she did, but then she was reminded of the face of the boy who'd saved her and she kept swimming.

When her feet managed to touch the ground, she dragged her soaked dress towards the shore and stood awkwardly. She hated wet clothes and a wet dress was even worse. The fabric clung to every part of her body and it was heavy from the water. But her arms were also bare and cold. Alyssea shivered.

I hope you're all okay, an apology directed at all her friends. I'm sorry.

And then there was light.

Raizel wasn't expecting for her spell to work. Lumos Duo is a 3rd year spell and by some miracle, it came out pretty nicely, lighting up what was once a dark area in the middle of the waters of the Black Lake. Still, despite the light, it was hard to make out what was going on under the water. She could see movements in there, leaning forward to have a closer look and even squinting her eyes. She only leaned back when the boat wobbled for a bit, probably because of her being too close to the edge of the boat and putting too much weight on that part. She turned her head towards her companion and hopefully that didn't startle him.

She held out her wand towards the water once more and then that's when she saw something in the water, coming closer and closer until it broke the surface. That made her jump out of surprise but luckily, not enough to cause the boat to overturn. "Bloody hell, what was that?!" that was what she could only respond with. Was that a mermaid? Were their mermaids in the lake again? But of course, that wasn't a mermaid, but just a normal person… if you call swimming in pitch black normal but then again, they probably weren't intending to go swimming in the first place.

At first, she couldn't recognize who it was until they locked eyes with each other for a brief second and then this person just… swam away. "Was that Alyssea just now?" She wondered out loud as she watched the girl's swimming figure, amazed at how she just swam so fast. "Woah! She sure is a fast swimmer. Look at her go." She remarked with an amazed smile on her face. "Wait a minute, how long was she down there?" That was when she realized she was supposed to wonder about that first, not gawk at her with awe. If she just fell in then she probably missed it but it looked like she was way deeper in there. Just what exactly is going on in these waters. There are still movements down there and she can't tell if those are from the people who were trying to rescue others or something else.

As the blue fish character in an animation said, keep rowing, keep rowing. Uh, wait. Is it keep rowing or keep swimming? Zach thought for a few seconds. I can't remember. Swimming and rowing sound the same anyway. Then he continued to row the boat until he saw a sudden shiny light. Raizel, the girl he shared the boat with, cast a fancy Lumos Duo. “Woah… Lumos Duo! I failed to learn one and gave up immediately. But somehow I managed to learn the Lumos Maxima.” The boy chuckled. He wondered if he should try to learn it again as it was actually useful. Raizel’s Lumos Duo helped him to see better. It might help someone in their radius too.

“Hey, Raizel. I think I'm getting used to rowing this boat,” said the boy with his excited smile and kept it until he felt the boat shake. He immediately stopped rowing and tried to balance and grabbed the boat tightly with his hands and feet. “What? What?” He looked at the surroundings, trying to notice anything wrong. Then the girl said she saw Alyssea. “Alyssea? Where?” The boy in his myopia tried to notice something moving fast in the water. Is it her? Not sure if it was really her or some random creature, he bluntly asked, “Ooh… Why is she in the water?” In that moment, he realized. The intention they ride this boat because they were on a mission to help someone. “Oh… Uh… Hope she’s not down there for a long time.” Zach said nervously. He wondered why Alyssea didn’t jump on their boat. It could be safer than swimming alone to the shore. Also, he learnt that Alyssea was a fast swimmer.

The splashes weren’t as loud as before. It meant the suffering people were already saved or perhaps the opposite. “Let’s see if there’s anybody we can help. If not, maybe we should return to the shore.” Then the boy started to row again. He hoped he didn’t bump anyone’s head with their boat as he used his hearing more than his eyesight.

Axyen was at the Great Lake looking around, it took multiple pleads before his mother finally agreed to get a small tuxedo for Arnold. Axyen had Arnold wear it and the purple Pygmy Puff seemed pretty excited about it. It seemed Daphne was late, so Axyen was sitting down next to Arnold peacefully, he didn't want to get started without Daphne. Axyen looked over at the boats and then the materials that could be used to make a lantern. It looked pretty fun to Axyen and he couldn't wait to begin.

Axyen was a little nervous, this was the first time he was at one of these events, and so far it looked pretty nice. Axyen wore a matching tuxedo with Arnold, except his tie with yellow and black and a Hufflepuff pin was attached to Axyen's tuxedo, even in a suit Axyen still shows his house pride. Perhaps it was because Axyen has a massive liking to the house of Hufflepuff, after all, he was accepted there with open arms, even on his first day when he was upset about being placed into Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor like he wanted.

Axyen looked around, it seemed Daphne was late, or maybe just not coming at all, Axyen kept looking around and then noticed Daphne and waved her over. "Oh! Hey Daphne!" Axyen said happily. He was happy that Daphne came, otherwise he would have no clue where to begin, and probably feel extremely awkward while doing so.

Raizel turned her head towards Zach once she was done staring at what she believed was Alyssea who had probably reached the shores by now. With how fast she was swimming in the dark and cold water, she doesn't doubt that one bit. "It's a great spell. You should definitely try it." Never hurts to try to learn new spells after all. "Oh, you know Lumos Maxima as well? Cool! If you know that then it should be easy for you to learn Lumos Duo."

She sure hopes this light of hers is being helpful right now, not just for them but also for others who might be around in their vicinity. She was glad to hear that Zach was getting used to rowing, nodding at him. He looks like he was enjoying it too so that's bonus points. She just hopes their boat won't turn over or she'll be in a lot of trouble. Now then, where were they? Right, looking for people to assist. "Alright, keep rowing. Let's see who we spot here." She kept an eye out on their surroundings, holding out her lit wand towards their front.

"You think there are more people down there?" She asked her companion, looking down on the waters as their boat continued to move on its surface, looking for anyone that might need helping. Thinking back, Alyssea wouldn't be under there for too long if nothing was happening, making her think that something must be in those waters aside from those that had fallen off of their boats.

Estelle glanced down, through the water. The boy she had tried to free was already being helped. It no longer seemed like they needed her and frankly, at this point she would've been more of a hindrance then a help. She was freezing and worried about those beneath the water, but in the exhausted state she was in she wasn't sure there was much she could do except get help from elsewhere. And so, Es swam upwards, searching for a boat that she could climb into to reach the shore. The moment she put her head above the water, a cold breeze blew in, making her shiver. The water was as cold as you'd expect and Es doubted that it was any warmer out of it. The cold could possibly be a problem - she didn't know much about hypothermia but worried about it nonetheless. Still, someone, if not her, would know spells to counteract it's effects. Estelle swam to an empty boat and clambered in, almost tipping the boat over in the process, but eventually succeeding. She took a moment to pause, looking across the lake. There were a few people in boats, but not nearly as many as there had been before people fell in. The water was no longer the calm of before - small waves had erupted on its surface, making her boat tilt back and forth. Although there was some movement, the lake still looked fairly calm and Es worried that the teachers and those at the banquet wouldn't have noticed the danger. She had to do something about that.
