Once in the air, Juliana's doubts and distress vanished into thin air. Such unnecessary feelings she forced herself to go through reminded her that from time to time, it wouldn't hurt to not feel uncertain about herself. The borrowed school broom didn't do much, but Juliana still kept bits of hope within her and tried to not understimate the overused object beneath her.

The cold weather never felt so mighty to Juliana until now. She became a victim of a freezing temperature that made her body tremble. Wearing the light jacket didn't come out as a smart choice, at all. Annoying imaginations where claws of icy landscape spanned through the air and emerged from underneath Juliana like a recently grown flower, penetrated their way into her muddled mind that couldn't remain focused on one task - the race.

Taking a hasty glance back at the starting line, she beheld Renelle, who remained still as a statue. I hope nothing went wrong. It distracted her a little, but Juliana knew that thinking about her opponent wasn't the right thing at the moment. It all happened so fast that Juliana almost oversaw the situation she found herself in. Vanishing into the fog, her eyes darted into all directions, not sure where the exit laid.

Come on Juliana, you can't just end here. Don't disappoint your teammates. With wide eyes open almost as if she saw a ghost, she searched for a trace of Rebecca and Pearla. She celebrated too soon and the despair and distress returned, moreover gained on its size to the point where it made Juliana overthink her experience and flying skills. You can't give up now, come on! She encouraged herself up by the inner monologue and almost as if the universe heard her, she successfully found a way out of the heavy fog.

Quickly gathering her senses together, Juliana glued her agitated eyes on upcoming, dangerously looking obstacles that took a form of narrow passageways that reminded Juliana of a dark tunnel that had no way out. While following her Slytherin teammate Pearla close behind, her intruding and annoying thoughts came to a stop and let her calmly fly through the air with squinted eyes. Knowing she is not alone, Juliana's worries shrinked. Meanwhile, wind took its price on her hair as Juliana prepared herself for either a success or disaster.

ROUND 2
ATTACKS

Rebecca attempts to blatch Delainie
Bex acc [d20 : 15] + 9/2 - 4 spd = 16
Del eva [d20 : 19] + 5/2 = 22, Delainie evades
Blatching was a learned skill and not to everyone's taste. Maybe it was Rebecca's speed, but she missed Delainie by a margin. Still, Alyssea could understand why it was Delainie Rebecca was looking to blatch and not Ophelia. After all, Delainie was at the front of the pack and she was the one with the broom to speed ahead to the finish line. Those brooms Delainie and Ophelia were on sure were fast.
UNIT 4 - Easy Narrow Passageways

DC: 11

Pearla acc [d20 : 14] + 2/2 - 2 spd = 13, success
Juliana acc [d20 : 7] + 8 - 2 spd = 13, success
⸺⸺⸺
Ophelia remains here
UNIT 5 - Hard Narrow Passageways

DC: 21

Pearla acc [d20 : 20] + 2/2 - 2 spd = 19, failed
Juliana acc [d20 : 8] + 8 - 2 spd = 14, failed
⸺⸺⸺
Pearla and Juliana take 3*10 = 30 HP damage each
UNIT 6

Delainie remains here
Pearla and Juliana end here
Pearla and Juliana were slowly catching up, but they were catching up fast enough that they ended up in the same area as Delainie and surpassed Ophelia. Alyssea squinted. Were the other team okay? She might have to end the race before anyone crossed the finish line to see if they weren't suffering from hypothermia. Who knows, maybe that's why they're freezing up (ha, get the joke?).

Alyssea knew what nerves were like. In her official duel, Gryffindor kept freezing up every odd round. While she was happy to walk away with the win, she felt a bit awful for Raizel who stuck it out and did her best to win.
UNIT 7 - Thorns (Hard)

DC: 15

Bex acc [d20 : 15] + 9/2 - 4 spd = 16, success
⸺⸺⸺
Rebecca ends here
In the meantime, Rebecca pushed forward to make herself the frontrunner. Even after the fog disoriented her, she still got through the thorns. Lucky she wasn't bleeding. The last race she watched over, too many people were bleeding and a good chunk of them even fell off their brooms from the hard winds. Hitting the rocks was bad enough for Rebecca but she was still going to need to contend with the snowfall and hard winds ahead.

𝓓elanie's broom was fast. Like, really fast. As Bex urged Casper forward - truly testing the limits of the broom's speed, something it definitely seemed to enjoy - she worried at the cut on her tongue with her tooth, weighing her options. Blatching wasn't technically against the rules, but it wasn't like, nice. Unsportsmanlike was the word, probably. But honestly, knocking into someone was way kinder than like, casting Tarantallegra on them while they are actively in the air, so really it the lesser of two evils.

And, as the little voice in Bex's head liked to remind her, she likely wouldn't have a shot in hell in succeeding should she try to cast a spell at Delainie, but being a human bludger she could probably manage.

Except no, guess she couldn't, as Delainie managed to dodge the human-broom battering ram that was Bex and Casper flying full speed at her. Bex let out some rather unladylike swears in response, as when you've gone ahead and compromised your morals to gain an edge in a race then the least the universe should do is have the courtesy to let it work. Delainie's broom was just too fast, though.

Which was why it was actually kind of shocking that, after reorienting herself following her failed blatch attempt, Bex managed to shoot out ahead of her target, while Delainie seemed to be making no effort to overtake her again. Had Renelle's mysterious early-race illness spread to her teammate somehow? Ever the diligent Ravenclaw, though, Bex was not going to waste precious brain power thinking about what could have come over the two of them when she could be using it for flying. Emboldened after taking the lead over Delainie, she managed to make her way through the thorns with ease, without so much as a scratch on her.

Team Ride or Die had a real shot of winning this thing, and Bex's whole world had narrowed down to her and her broom. All of the stress from family and classes fell away, dropping far, far down to the Earth below her as she sped past it. Flying made all the buzzing in her head fade into silence, a cool and quiet soothing that she could only equate to snow falling on a frozen lake. She was shapeless, she was weightless, you couldn't touch her. Below her Casper thrummed with a nameless, coiled energy that electrified her, both comforting and exhilarating in equal measure.

The wind was cold and biting against her skin and her nose was running something fierce but she could hardly feel it. External sensation had taken a backseat somewhere along the way and Bex was happy to let it remain there. She could probably get hit by lightning and wouldn't notice if it didn't knock her off her broom.

She spared a quick glance over her shoulder and saw that Juliana and Pearla had caught up and were neck and neck with Delainie, causing a grin that was almost feral to break out on Bex's face. Time to win this thing.

The race was on. I flew, dashing full speed through the air. Renelle had stopped, she hadn’t moved from the line, so it was up to me and Ophelia to do something in this race, and quick. Luckily, my broom was really fast, and this was a race, so that would be helpful, and I had pretty good balance so I wasn’t worried about falling off. What I was worried about though, were people bumping into me and trying to knock me off, or loosing co trip and flying into an obstacle. There were thorns, and it was pretty hard to get around them, but I wasn’t just doing this for myself, I was doing it for my team. We had to win this, I knew we could, if we just flew fast enough and didn’t let the other team pass us, we could win. I wanted to look back to see where Ophelia was, but I knew that u would most likely crash into something if I peeled my eyes away for even a second, it was much too dangerous. I heard someone swearing somewhere around me, and I laughed, hopefully they were mad that I was doing better than them.

Ophelia closed her eyes, angry at herself for being so far behind. She was the last one in the race, not counting Renelle, who was still at the starting line. Hopefully she was okay. Ophelia hadn't looked back once since she'd started flying and she felt bad for her team member, but she hoped that Alyssea would notify them and stop the race if something was seriously wrong with her fellow Ravenclaw first year.

Thinking about the race again, Ophelia kept her eyes on the track ahead. There was still a lot more obstacles to go through, and she couldn't stop now. She'd only gone through the narrow passageways and the fog so far, and she couldn't think about what more there was. Delainie was still at a position where she could win this race for the team, so maybe they weren't at a complete loss. We can still win this, it's just going to be a lot harder.

The other team, Ride or Die, was doing much better than the Eagles, but hopefully they could make a comeback. Taking a deep breath, Ophelia pushed her broom forward. Come on, she urged it. You can do this. There was no way the Eagles would win if she kept going slow.

Alyssea shivered and figured it was finally time to call it. She looked across the course. The track had been reduced due to the weather and due to the racers being first years, but even with this change, nobody would finish the race. She sighed. Bummer. Alyssea was a bit excited coming into this race as this was the first for the club, but she reminded herself that more would come in the future so long as she had the patience to wait. She probably wouldn't be watching over the next one, though, since she'd have to watch over an official race between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw in the winter games.

She walked closer to them so they could hear her. When do Hogwarts students learn the voice amplifying spell? It would certainly be helpful right now. "Right, everyone stop!"

If only she had her brooms with her, she'd fly up to them and explain what was going on. For now, she hoped they would listen closely and follow her lead. "Maybe it wasn't a good idea to race today. Let's head back into the castle and warm up. Sorry everyone."

She wouldn't officially call a winner, but if someone were to prod her about it, she'd say Ride or Die won. Rebecca was in the front when she called for it to end, after all.
