Quidditch Gryffindor v Hufflepuff - Fall 2023

Madison had concentrated on getting her penalty lap done as soon as possible. She was itching to get back into all the action. Howard was scoring goal after goal and, by the time Madison finished her lap, the score was 40-90 in favour of Hufflepuff!! Madison knew she'd have to write a letter to her dad after the game and after celebrating with her teammates. Considering it was her first game, Madison was proud of herself for how well she was playing, though not surprising for others if you saw her Quidditch pedigree.
After finishing her lap and heading back into the action to join her team, Madison got her head back into the game and got ready to start the next round of play. Breathe Madi, we've got this she said to herself, smiling at Howard and Roxette, signaling to them that she was back and ready to play

It was going well. Roxette was excited by all that was happening. Things were going their way in the best ways, but she was still on guard. She was on save duty for Howard, Avery, and Daphne. She believed she was doing a good job while trying hard not to look like she was on save mode. Hopefully, she acted accordingly and not at all suspiciously. Madison was doing her penalty lap, Hufflepuff was going strong. Howard scored four times making their total ninety whilst the Gryffindor chaser got ten points added. Avery took out the last opponent beater. Madison finished her lap and rejoined the game. The Snitch was spotted! It was go time!

Howard finally seemed to hit his stride as the next round of action began. The first grab would go Gryffindor's way again, but that was the last straw. He bent low over his broom and redoubled his efforts, once even pushing the Quaffle past Ashleigh as she attempted to block his shot. All said and done it was 40 more points for the badgers!

However, although team Hufflepuff gained the advantage in scoring they would seemingly fall behind in the fight for the Snitch. Elsian began to dart off in what Howard could only guess was hot pursuit of the sneaky orb, but Daphne still looked like she was searching still. But the crack of the Beater's bats would draw his attention elsewhere.

The Bludgers sailed through the air seeking out their next victims and their aim was true. The blow to Alexander proved to much to bear as Gryffindors last Beater was felled, but through grit and determination Daphne survived the assault against her. However, Alexander would not go down without a battle. With a skilled swing the Bludger ricocheted off of Daphne and sailed towards Avery, but Hufflepuff's star Beater was too quick and avoided the shot. It was a grind between the two teams. Every gain on either side came with a counter. Would a victor be decided soon or would the battle continue on?

It was always tough to find that blur of gold. Obviously, it wouldn’t be much of a game if it wasn’t, but Elsian had the right to complain. After all, he had to catch the damn thing! It wasn’t like practice where he could expect Finn to suddenly crash into him, snitch in hand.

Once upon a time, it’d felt impossible to find, let alone catch it. Then a pain as they kept practicing…and eventually an annoying, but possible challenge as a certain annoying teammate got added to the equation. And now?

…still a challenge. But one that, for better or worse, he’d gotten better at thanks to all the practice and…ugh…Finnegans help... It felt physically painful to acknowledge but sadly the proof was right in front of him as he struggled to find the snitch, squinting and huffing before training kicked in, forcing him to take a breath, to focus until-

He saw it.

A distant shimmer of gold zipping in the air, light bouncing off it and he tensed. Grip tightening around the broom's handle, gloves creaking under the strain as he whipped around on his broom just to keep track of it.

He didn’t dare glance away too long, not while he was busy tracking the snitch, but he could feel himself grow more tense as he spared a small look towards the other players, or rather his teammates. Right about now was the time he had to actively begin worrying. After all, Hufflepuff was in the lead, and everyone's players were dropping like flies.

He hated this next part…

He leaned closer to his broom, hair whipping around with the wind.

Guess it was time to actually play...

Swinging her broom out to the side to intercept one of the roaming bludgers, Avery feels a beat of satisfaction at the solid connection she's able to make with her bat. The redirection sends a reverberating jolt up her arm that she manages to shake out after a few seconds, eyes trained on the bludger as the ball rapidly finds its mark on her Gryffindor counterpart. Turning her attention back to the rest of the pitch just in time to duck out of the way of the match's second bludger, the beater darts off once more.

Yep...it really seemed like she "annoyed" the veteran Hufflepuff Chaser in this round for stopping his final attempts for two times. Ash looked up and noticed how his eyes became even more serious than before, at least that was how she felt, then all of a sudden, he began his "attacks" in an even more forceful style. Ash tried to stick to her own trick, but she was almost helpless to stop all those four fearsome shots that moved so fast like untouchable shooting stars.

"Urgh!! No!"

Ash let out a groan of annoyance and dissatisfaction that she wasn't able to stop one attempt this time. It was obvious, that it would get even harder from now on.

The game went on and at first it went well for Haley - she managed to win the Quaffle and in no time she was able to score another 10 more points for Gryffindor. The brief high was quickly dispelled after it seemed that this success had only spurred Howard on and the next goals were all down to him. "Damn it." Muttered the red-haired girl on her broom.

Her gaze fell on the Gryffindor Seaker, in her eyes there was hope and maybe a little bit of pleading in her eyes. She didn't voice the thought, but she really hoped that he would soon manage to catch the Snitch and decide the game for Gryffindor. In the meantime she would do everything she could to score more points.

Ultimately, it was a good second round. The announcer was making the crowd go wild, almost to the point Annie couldn't keep up. It seemed the quaffle plays were being contested for, but Howard managed to pull away 4 of the 5 times and score all four of them. It truly amazed her and made her so happy be under the great supervision and leadership of such a strong and determined player.

"Ah that'a boy Howard, you're amazing Captain! Let's go!

She cheered pumping her fist into the air, a big grin on her face. And the good news didn't stop there Avery was being sharp with that bludger bat. It always did intrigue her. The violent part of the game always came from Beaters. Their strength and the connection as the ball hit the bat, making a sickening cracking noise sent shivers down her spine. It must've been terrifying to see the ball hurdle at you. Too bad for her she either heard it or felt it connect with her ribs before getting taken down. But Avery was brilliant as always and the bat connected, then the bludger connected. Right with the remaining Gryffindor Beater. Yes!
"Avery that was absolutely brilliant! You should teach me how to swing that bat around sometime!" Annie called out to her teammate, a small laugh escaping her. When was the last time she laughed during a Quidditch match? Usually she was pissed or biting her nails. What could she say? It was a great day for Quidditch.

Returning to her posts after her irritating penalty lap, Atlas wanted to make up for that lost time. Gryffindor had scored while she was gone and she hated to see free points going to the other team. Trying to settle on her broom and in position, her eyes quickly found the quaffle as she tracked the movements of the other team.

Atlas didn't need to wait long for the offense to shift toward her. Exhaling as the Gryffindor chaser made their move, Atlas sprang into motion to defend the shot. But she knew the second the quaffle was in the air that she had been a fraction of a second too slow. The quaffle sailed through her goal unopposed and Atlas let out a frustrated curse.

Shaking her head with disappointment, she took some solace in the fact that their team was running up the score on the other end. But her lack of a decisive play did keep her more tense than she would have liked. As the Gryffindor player began to make another move toward her, Atlas forced herself to remain calm. She didn't want her frustration to have her make a mistake. This time she could see exactly what she needed to do, springing to the side, Atlas easily caught the quaffle with a taunting smirk before passing it to Howard who immediately took it down for another score. While they had a bit of a lead now, Atlas knew there was still plenty of game to play and the snitch was still out there somewhere.

This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Clutching his nimble broomstick, Finnegan dove again and again for the quaffle yet only managed to seize it once. It was only on the fifth try that he finally managed to beat Howard to it. Spotting an opening, Finnegan flitted through the air and attempted to score. But now that the Hufflepuff keeper was actually protecting the hoops, it proved much more difficult to score. Atlas Reid countered with an impressive move that immediately passed the quaffle back to Howard. Despite Asleigh's best efforts and solid performance so far, she could not prevent Howard from scoring again. At least Haley had managed to score once for Gryffindor, preventing the Hufflepuff lead from growing to wide. Better still, it seemed that Elsian was quite awake and had spotted the snitch. For once he was actually rooting for the fifth-year and though it was tempting to cheer him on, he figured that it was more likely to be distracting than helpful, so he simply watched and prayed that Elsian would succeed.
