2023/24, Stage 1 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 4

He had a horrible losing streak against Ravenclaws. It was figures that once his duel started to go well for once when he was up against them, revenge would taste sweet. He was a sore loser that would delight in getting back at others. And yet, when he easily took one of them down, the taste in his mouth was anything but sweet.

He didn’t know what sort of face he was making when he pointed his wand at her. But he was sure his eyes averted at some point by instinct. Rookie mistake number 1. Always your eye on the target. The rush of energy and joy that rushed through when a spell hits should’ve proved to himself especially that despite his many losses, he was a good member to the Viridian Vipers. Just as he felt the spell shoot out of his wand, he couldn't help but glance at her again. Paying no mind to the other spells shooting everywhere. Not the spells Cazares evaded, and not the spells that hit Winters. Not even the spell that was aimed towards him.

It was an indescribable feeling when he saw her on the ground, a result of an impressive barrage of flipendos from the slytherins. Subtle thumps of his heartbeat were vaguely felt in his ears. He truly did not know what his face looked like at the time.

One thing he did know was that what might’ve been a great vengeance served, was far from sweet.

His body moved on his own in that split second, a small step forward. Before his body could betray his innermost thoughts, the ones he had desperately tried to push away- he felt a spell hit him and his limbs growing slow and stiff. He winced just as he fell forward on the stage, stuck to the floor and unable to move. Did he seriously just walk into that spell?! If he could let out an annoyed groan, he would’ve.

But perhaps it was a blessing in disguise when he thought it over. What was he about to do again? This was a duel. Eun-ji and him both knew at some point they had to go against one another. Its not like they cared enough about one another to feel anything if they happen to knock eachother out. Hanako didn’t. Of course he didn’t. It was huge that they managed to take out someone from the Ravenclaw team so early on. Who cared if it happened to be Eun-Ji? Not him. He told himself, not realising this was a rare occasion where he happened found himself more grateful than annoyed being under an annoying spell.

Damion was happy the way things were turning out for them. He had been able to attack Hanako. He was glad for that. He looked around himself. He was happy how things were going on. He smiled softly as he stood here after casting the spell. "Petrificus Totalus" Damion said looking at Hanako as Damion's spell hit him. He was sad to see that one of the teammates fall unconscious. He was hoping that his other teammate and him are able to win this.

"Ventus!"

That particular spell was quickly becoming one of his favorites. The tempest that rose and threatened to grow even larger was a joy to behold. While it did not reach its full potential, the effects were still satisfying to watch.

The same could not be said for his teammate. Poor Eun-ji took the brunt of the Slytherin's first attacks. He could only watch and wince as she was struck thrice before falling. He did not envy the bruises that were bound to form until healing could restore her whole.

Despite being one down, Cassius was confident. He cast a cheeky grin towards Damion and prepared himself for the next round. "Two versus three. At least it is even now." Regardless of the outcome of the duel, Cassius was in his element. The reality of being one teammate down only increased the thrill and he was loving every moment of it.

The first seconds that we quite full of actions changed with a note of deliberation. On the Slytherin side, at least. Ruby spread the healing around, successfully bringing Hanako out of his paralysis, and getting Opeila to feel a little better as the latter was removing her blindfold.

But that act of support turned against her, as the two remaining boys shot their spells at her.

Cassius pushed a whole jet of water right into Ruby's eyes, disorienting her a bit, while Damion reached her with a Flipendo, almost missing, but just like... tapping Ruby on the shoulder. The tap was hard enough to rotate her body a little, but not enough to knock her anyhow significantly.

But she was soaking wet now, which wasn't a good thing (knowing Ruby), but at least some protection against fire.

Damion was doing well. He turned to look at his Team Mate who happened to be the captain too. He was glad to see that Cassius was also not hit by any spells. They were doing well. A smile appeared on his face when Damion and Cassius' spells hit their target. "Flipendo" Damion said looking at Ruby as Damion's spell hit her. It was truly too early to say whether they'd win or not. But things looked good so far.

He himself didn’t understand where the sudden need to break free from this dumb spell came from. Perhaps it had something to do his own irritation at himself for his earlier slip up regarding the unconscious Ravenclaw. Reminding himself he had a duel to get through, he managed (miraculously honestly) to break free from the constraints of the spell. Unsurprisingly, it seemed like Cazares wasn’t too certain that he could handle himself. Not that he minded, considering now he felt as if the duel had truly just started and he was feeling great. Unfortunately, it seemed her ‘act of kindness’ was at the cost of her own focus. Being wet and hit with a flipendo, she looked the worst among the Slytherins.

Eh- she’ll do fine. An urge to let out a little tease with a hint of mockery was just at the tip of his tongue, but he held back. A little small act of kindness of his own. That- and he wasn’t in the mood, actually. In fact, he didn't even feel like flirting with the Ravenclaws as usual. What the hell was wrong with him? He was looking good with no scratch or bruises, and there was even a particularly good looking Ravenclaw he usually would be more than happy to engage with (Damion).

But why the lack of interest? Hanako’s eyes naturally turned towards the spot where Eun-ji had been and his breath hitched for a second. Nah, it couldn’t be. It was just one of those days. Nothing to do with her. The duel could handle 1 match where he behaved.

Opeila hated blindfolds, she hated them with a fiery passion. Maybe even more than being petrified. At least petrification came with rules that she couldn't be hit by any spells while it was still in effect, which at least gave her a moment to breathe. Blindfolds generally made her hands get sweaty. With trembling fingers she fumbled with the knot, trying not to drop her wand accidentally, at the same time listening to any sound. Didn't it sound like a spell was coming her way?

Yes, it did. But when it hit, she recognized it immediately. Ruby, that had to be Ruby healing her (She was sure that this was not Hanako).
She managed to get her blindfold off just in time to see Ruby hit by two spells. Well, she almost managed to evade one, it only caught her barely. Alright then... The Slytherin re-oriented herself and focused. Back into the game.

"Aqua Eructo!"

An ice-blue jet of water surged across the duelling floor from the tip of Cassius' cherry wood wand,
impacting upon its target. Water was an odd but effective weapon when propelled with force. He felt the slightest amount of sympathy for the sixth year hit by not one but two spells; but, this was business and every tool was fair game.

Though they were one duellist down, Damion looked good and Cassius still felt confident about their chances. He cast a reassuring grin in his teammate's direction before raising his wand and preparing for the their next moves.

Given that her teammates were at a disadvantage, what with Hanako incapacitated and Opeila blindfolded, Ruby had kindly decided to help them out by healing them. But in the moment she was concentrated entirely on the spell, given that she was trying to help them both at once, her focus on the opponents wavered slightly. Before she knew it, there were two spells coming at her with no time to dodge—she almost got out of the way of the second, but luck was not on her side. She lifted a sleeve to wipe the excess water out of her face, silently fuming at the sensation of her clothes sticking to her. She hated that spell. She could handle direct damage, but to soak her on top of that was just irritating. Why did they even target her anyway when Opeila was literally blindfolded? Whatever. She had been nice and had received this in return. Maybe the universe was trying to tell her something. “You’re welcome,” she muttered to her teammates.

A whole variety of spells were cast, and Meenauh honestly expected quite a result. Considering the fact, she distinguished quite a few of them, and a couple of split ones as well.

Hanako threw a nasty petrification at Cassius, but the quick Ravenclaw dodged it easily. Right after that Opeila cast a very powerful — really, Meenauh felt it — Obscuro, and also split it. It seemed the Slytherin wanted vengeance. And served with the same spells they were hit earlier. But unfortunately, the very tight dark cloth failed to wrap any clever Ravenclaw head this time.

Ruby was thinking quickly, and Meenauh nodded as she perfectly knew the feeling. A quick shield allowed her to avoid two spells that were sent her way.

Damion's Flipendo just dissipated as it touched the shield, and Cassius, who managed to split this Flipendo, had an unfortunate event of the spell rebound towards himself. Luckily, the aim was a bit off and the spell went another way. The split Flipendo, though, went directly into Hanako, and hit quite painfully in the head.

That was it, really. Hopefully, there were more highlights to come.
