If he had control over his body at that moment, Dmitri would have let out a longsuffering sigh and the largest of eye-rolls—just as they predicted. He was hoping this year's duels would be something new, something unique, the swan song of swan songs, but they (including him, if he was being honest) all fell back on the same four spells all over again.
To switch things up this year, Dmitri refrained from being too ambitious (ironically) and targeting two people— to his surprise, it worked very much in his favor. Had he split his attention in half, the near-miss spell he'd watched connect with his opponent would have been entirely out of bounds.
Maybe a little bit of variety is in order.
He has to get up first, however.

Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 1
It would seem that from the first ticking second upon the clock after their moderator's declarations, neither team were playing the long game. Within seconds, the piste had quite literally exploded, great plumes of magical smoke billowing up as one member from both teams was immediately incapacitated. Amongst this kamikaze of destructive spellwork, Astrea's skilfully wrought safety net remained the least combative in anticipation of outbroken chaos -- and not a moment too soon, for neither of the split Confringo directed towards her met the same fortune as poor Bridget.
As any experienced duellist or spectator had expected, this duel was unique to Hogwarts itself and far from the relative orderliness of their junior leagues. How swiftly it would conduct itself, even Astrea could not predict...

As soon as Galton said the words, Bridget cast her spell, the conjuring of a black strip of cloth that would hopefully render Delilah temporarily blind. When she reviewed the duel later, she might note this speed as invaluable, because she wasn't even granted the time to see if it struck true; her vision was filled with the warm, blinding flashes of explosions, and her ears, too, by the noise, and she knew she tried to dodge it but the only real way to escape the heat and debris was to run. Running had no place on the duelling stage.
It was horrifically loud and instantly painful in a variety of places, and the next thing she knew her palms were catching her descent to the floor, balance lost somewhere in all of that. She registered Dmitri next to her, flat on the floor with magically stiff limbs, as she regained her footing, hopefully quickly enough but she was busy blinking away the bright spots. Astrea, at least, looked untouched. She was glad this team wasn't the talking sort because her ears were still ringing.

Mentioning @Delilah Stewart @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama EllwoodIt was a miracle they all still had their hearing. Phaedra's voice was among the symphonious trio of Confringo; both splits succeeding in their initial execution, but sorely lacking in direction. At least one flew relatively close to where she'd intended, while the other went haywire, untraceable in the chaos of bouncing off another's shield. Phaedra's jaw became tight as she evaluated the situation—next time, her aim would ring true.Doing as strategized (x)

4th November 2023- Morning
The impact the numerous explosions had on the poor duelists would be felt right away as the teams went about there next moves. With all the violent energy they had just put out on stage and aimed at each other, it was nice to know that it was not their only mode of thought.
For all but Phaedra, at least. The wise Raven would not be dissuaded by one of her spells rebounding away, she would repeat that same. Another Confringo just for Bridget. The only flaw to the plan was picking a target who seemed quick whited enough to know she was in danger. Bridget would fling up a protego, the magic enveloping her in a shining barrier. It was clear she knew what she was doing, as it was a textbook perfect cast. The gleaming field would have no problem bouncing the confringo right back to it's sender. There wouldn’t be enough time for Phaedra to dodge out of the way, the protego was too quick. She’d feel the full impact of her own explosive spell.
The others would be left in peace to do what they may. Delilah would throw up her own protego in expectation of spells that would never come. Aida would assist the blind Delilah and remove the pesky piece of cloth. Dmitri would not be stopped for long, showing the crowd that duelists were not all feeble-bodied individuals and break free. Returning to his feet he would feel Astrea's cool magic wash over him, healing any of the soreness left over. Bridget would also be bathed in the Reparifors, feeling some of those blast burns soothe.
With only a single explosion this time, the ringing in everyone's ears would slowly dissipate. And even with the safe moves that most had elected to take, the crowd had still been privy to quite the display of magic. It wasn't too often you got to see a protego fling magic right back at someone quite like that. Galton only hoped they could keep such entertainment up!

"Phaedra, look out!" cried Aida as a protego rebounded the Ravenclaw’s explosive blast. The elder ally was able to deftly dodge the worst of the blast, however, and Aida bounced with a small clap of hands. "NICE!" Pulling the blindfold off Aida’s other ally, the white-haired wix smiled warmly.
"We’re warmed up now, yeah? Let’s GET THEM!"

Dmitri brushed himself off as he leveled an appreciative nod at Astrea. The past year, this has been quite a common sight, with him having to rely too much on his teammates to get himself back on his feet.
Which irked him to no end.
Now, with the recent changes to a 3v3 dueling composition, the boy is expecting a lot more of the same. His opponents knew he could take a hit and so they just loved to target him.
Dmitri held back a cringe as he, at that moment, saw the way one of the Ravenclaws' Confringos immediately blew back into their face from Bridget's impeccable Shield Charm.
There was a reason Bridget was one of Dmitri's successors as a Captain.

Her senses were coming back slowly, but the most important thing returned fast: Phaedra's lips were forming around the same incantation and Bridget was not interested in being blown up again. So as another fiery attack formed, she threw up a shield, and as rushed as it was the practice had clearly paid off, the magical barrier unyielding to the sheer force of the offensive spell, directing it right back at its caster.
She had to smile at it, just a little bit. With the steadiness on her feet only gradually returning, the success brought some life back. They could trade hits.

@Astrea Soleil Neptune | @Bridget Collins | @Dmitri Jones | @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood | @Phaedra StavrouGood riddance foul blindfold, hope to never see you again. That was the immediate thought Del had as Aida so kindly removed it for her. The protego surrounding her dissipated without anybody even hitting it which was mildly disappointing but it was alright. Unfortunately phae got hit with her own spell, it happens sometimes.

As her hearing rang true and Astrea allowed her shield to drop, two others were constructed from both sides of the piste, though only one experienced any focused targeting. Only one cast spell this round shone offensively, only to be promptly rebounded back towards their hubristic Ravenclaw opponent with a shield so finely formed that Astrea's merciful healing could only serve as the gold gilt atop Bridget's magical prowess. No wonder her two superiors had held the Captain position for as long as they had if this was the upper limitation of skill. She, an experienced duellist in her own right and trusting in her partners' capability, could but prepare herself for the imminent catastrophe looming over the momentarily lulled piste.
