Heal the Burns with Aloe Vera

September 2nd. The chirping of the birds could be heard outside the castle. The sun shone brightly with some clouds moved slowly by the wind. It is a great day to do outdoor activity. Zach took his favorite satchel and slung it on his shoulder. After that, he moved to the greenhouse.
Actually he didn't expect that he would create a club. A socially awkward boy involved in social interaction? Let's just hope that he would do great in managing the club. When he arrived at the greenhouse, he immediately prepared all the equipment for planting, the soil, and the center of this activity: aloe vera cuttings.
When his preparation was finished, he saw all the students, mainly around his age, also in front of the greenhouse. Zach smiled when he saw them all, it meant that his owl did a great work sending the invitation letter. "What should I do first?" The pale boy is thinking. "Oh, introduction!"
"Hello! Welcome to our first activity in Dittany's Leaves. We will do some dirt work to grow plants, especially the ones with medical properties. I am Zach, a second year Ravenclaw, and I hope you're all enjoying this club." Zach looked at each member of the club and added, "Perhaps, maybe we should start from introducing ourselves first."
After the introduction, Zach decided to start the activity. "As you can see here, there is already some equipment you can use, pots, soil, dragon dung, and ah… Aloe Vera. We will start by planting an Aloe Vera. This plant is famous for its properties to heal burns. This friend is also very easy to grow so it should be the perfect plant to grow as a starter.
"I also have written these procedures for you. Uh… Don't worry. Professor McLoughlin had approved these. So, if you follow this procedure, our mini friend will grow well." Then he continued, "Uh… Okay. Let's plant together. Don't use these dragon dungs as pranks or Professor will give you detention and uh… house point reduction. Don't hesitate to ask me or others if you need help." Zach gave the procedure paper to each of the members. Then he started to plant.
Aloe Vera Planting Procedure
- Take a pot that have drainage holes to prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged.
- Fill the pot with a well-draining soil. You can mix it with sand and perlite.
- Place the aloe vera cutting in the pot and backfill with the soil. Be careful not to bury the leaves of the plant.
- Water the plant thoroughly until the soil is moist.
- Add some dragon dung as the fertilizer.
- Place the plant in a bright, indirect sunlight location.

- This thread is for club members only. If you haven't joined yet, you can do it here.
- The place is in front of the first greenhouse.
- The dragon dungs and the aloe vera cuttings are already provided in the greenhouse area so you don't have to own any of them.
- The word count is 200 words minimum.
- You're expected to write once in this planting period. If you didn't write in this thread during this month, I won't roll the dice for you for the next month. It also means you have no chance of getting the reward.
- Last but not least, happy writing! I hope you enjoy the activity

"The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it" - JM BarrieDate: 2nd September
Time:The afternoon ❅ Estelle looked at the list. She couldn't wait to get started!
First, she searched for a pot with drainage holes. You'd think that would be quite easy to find, but the pots were quite heavy and it took her a good five minutes before she overturned one that had drainage holes. She placed it on the spongy grass in front of the greenhouse.
Next, Es grabbed a bag and filled the pot with soil, mixing it with sand and perlite. She was so glad that she had worn some old clothes for this - she had an outfit that she always wore for gardening (which was covered in mud) and she had actually remembered to bring and wear it that day.
Next, Es dug a shallow well in the soil and placed her little aloe plant in it. She hoped it would be alright in the new pot. She filled up the roots with soil, taking care as to not cover the leaves.
Estelle decided to name her plant. As she watered it, she thought of names. Terra? Gaia? She liked Terra, but didn't feel like it fit her little plant.
As she placed the dragon dung she thought further about her plant's name. The dung was disgustingly stinky, but she'd smelled worse smells.
She finally decided on her plant's name as she placed it in a shady spot by the greenhouse. Terry.
She wished Terry luck and went to get changed.

𝓑ex looked down at her little aloe vera cutting, and it looked back up at her. Or at least, she imagined it did, as it didn't technically have eyes. But it was definitely looking at her, she was sure of it. She blinked long and slow at it, like you would a cat. It did not blink back.
She was not unfamiliar with plants, as she acted as a regular and eager assistant for her stepfather Leo in their family garden, but this little aloe vera plant was all hers. It's long term success was largely her responsibility, and she felt the weight of that very distinctly. There was no Leo here to help smooth over her mistakes, so she needed to put in the effort to make sure she was doing right by this little guy, or else her failure would be his failure.
She set the drainage pot down next to her cutting, and began to make introductions as she filled it with the supplied soil.
"I'm Bex." She told the plant. "And I guess I'm your mom now. Leo always says that talking to plants helps them grow, so I'm hoping if I talk to you it will keep you from... well, dying I guess. Please don't do that."
"My grandma's name is Vera, too." She said, as she gently placed the cutting in the soil and began to carefully back-fill around it. Making sure to follow Zach's instructions, she she took care to ensure that she didn't accidentally bury the leaves. "I don't think she was named after the plant, but it's nice that you both have the same name."
She filled the watering can and began to water her little plant, checking the soil with her fingers every so often until she determined that it was suitably moist. Finally, at the part of the process she was sure to enjoy the least, she held her breath as best she could as she added the dragon dung to the pot, hoping that her discomfort would be worth it and that it would help her little plant grow into a stable, mature aloe vera plant, with like, a career in accounting or something.
When it came time to find a home for her plant, she thankfully remembered Leo's advice about direct versus indirect light, and moved the aloe vera plant around the greenhouse until she found a spot far enough from the window that the shadow cast by the plant was weak with blurry edges. She set her plant down gently and bent down close to tell it goodbye.
"Okay, good luck, love you." She whispered. "Grow well."

The new school year had begun but Kim was not his usual self, he would seem 'off' to those who knew him. That is, those who knew him well, as Kim tended to keep to himself most of the time. Unless it was a club he was a leader or co-leader of. For those who didn't know him well, they probably wouldn't realize anything was wrong with him at all. After all, it could just be his personality, or maybe a bad mood he was in. The point was, it could be a variety of things, they wouldn't know since they didn't know him. Kim did not expect them to either and preferred them to simply ignore him. He didn't feel like talking about it at the moment.... Or ever. He just wanted to do things that would relax him right now. Kim had always had a fondness for plants and herbs in general. It was something he'd shared with Felix back in the past too. A sigh escaped his lips. The first day back, Kim had been like a ghost, he'd gone to the welcoming feast but hadn't really participated in anything or spoken to anyone. Of course, whenever anyone greeted him, he had greeted them back, if only to be polite. But when they tried to do more, he'd simply ignored them and they'd understood.... Or at least had seen fit to leave him alone. Today was the day after the ceremony and welcoming feast for the new first years. There were more people. Students who probably were excited about starting their first day at Hogwarts. But for Kim, it was just another day. Another day that he was alone and would continue to be alone for the rest of his time here. Or so it felt like to him. He'd originally intended on simply managing the clubs he was already leading or the co-leader for, and not to join any new ones. But he hadn't been able to resist joining one new one. Because it had to do with taking care of the plants in the greenhouses, which was something he did on a regular basis.... Why not see what this club had to offer? It sounded like it would be a relaxing club and he already knew how to take care of a lot of plants already, so it might be a lot of fun too. Therefore, he'd joined it and was now approaching the greenhouses for the first meeting the club was holding for its members. The dark haired almost fourteen year old (He'll turn 14 September 27th) arrived a little late to the meeting, still keeping his obsession with either coming really early or a little late. He saw a few people already inside the greenhouse. So he entered the place. As Zach, their leader, spoke about what they were going to do at the meeting, Kim listened to him from afar. Everyone present went around introducing themselves, until it came to him. Kim raised a hand into the air and inclined his head towards everyone. "Yo. I'm Kim, a 3rd year duelist this year from Gryffindor." He told them and waited for everyone else to finish up their introductions. Once it was done, Zach went onto describing the activity they would be doing. Kim nodded. They would be doing the simplest one first, which made sense. He took a paper from Zach, even though he knew how to do it from his memory. Kim chose a pot and placed it down in front of him. Then, he went over and started to mix soil with sand and perlite, until it was perfect and ready to be used to pot his plant inside. For the next step, Kim picked up some aloe vera cuttings and placed them carefully into the pot, using the soil around it to gently fold around the plant itself. He made sure the leaves were not buried and that each part of the plant was visible on the surface. It looked quite lovely and Kim couldn't help but almost smile. This was relaxing, being with plants. He worked patiently, not going too fast or too slow. Eventually, he was done, and moved on to the watering. Kim took care doing this to get the right amount. Once the soil was moist, he added some dragon dung for fertilizer and then picked up the plant to move it to a location that had bright, indirect sunlight inside the greenhouse. |

Heal the Burns with Aloe Vera
Dialogue: Example Thoughts: Example Others: Example
Almost as if the universe was reading Juliana's mind, it accomplished her dearest wishes by gifting her with a beautiful weather that boosted the growing feeling of happiness within her. As much as she screamed with enthusiasm on the insides, the thought of being the new kid at Hogwarts continuously kept her in neverending captivity that usurped her only joy - participating in the very first meeting of a freshly founded club named Dittany's Leaves.
Juliana considered this experience as highly needed the mere second she found out about it. Considering that back at Newport, she oftentimes watched the garderner of their family do their work, she wanted to try how it felt. To care for plants. And having the opportunity to touch such fragile things without having to invest money in it, seemed foolish to reject it in Juliana's eyes.
She entered without any hasitation. Being in the presence of classmates the same age as her or even older, felt troublesome. The thought of being a newcomer and not belonging anywhere, creeped on her from every corner she took. Juliana knew that it would take a long time to get used to it, but remembering what tense situations, agonizing even, she had been through, the distressed girl also reminded herself that nothing would prevent her from learning new things. She was there to learn, to seek knowledge and that was what Juliana planned to keep her focus on.
While she searched for an empty space, the founder of the club, Zach, spoke up. He introduced himself first and assumed that an introduction of all members of the club would be a good idea. Juliana patiently waited for her turn to speak, thoroughly going through possible ways of introducing herself until she did so. "Okay so um . . . I'm Juliana, a First Year from Ravenclaw. It's nice to . . . It's nice meeting you all." Too much stuttering for her taste, but it could have been worse. It's not like she said a different name or house.
After the succesfull but dreadful introduction, Zach jumped in and described what they were going to work with. He pointed at pots, soil, dragon dung and the main thing - Aloe Vera. How ironic that the very first thing Juliana had the honor to plant carried her middle and mother's name. It indeed seemed like fate wanted her to join that club.
Gladly grasping a procedure paper that Zach gave out to all members of Dittany's Leaves, Juliana went through all the steps of Aloe Vera planting, hoping she didn't leave out anything important and dived right into it.
Firstly, she fought with a search for pot that was supposed to have drainage holes. After an exhausting hunt, she luckily found it. Gently placing it into an airy grass, Juliana's eyes kept darting from the pot to the procedure paper front and back, making sure she wasn't about to do anything wrong - just in case. "Now, fill the pot with a well-draining soil. You can mix it with sand and perlite." Juliana pensively glared at the pot in front of her and mumbled to herself step after step she was supposed to accomplish.
After doing so, Juliana reached for the Aloe Vera cutting and kept her dreamy gaze on it. The ralization of something depending on her, filled her with indescribable joy. It felt similiar to the moment when she realized that she would carry the responsibility of caring for Kangaroo, her scottish fold cat. Smiling to herself, she maneuvered with the cutting of Aloe Vera as if it were the most fragile feather in this world.
"This should keep you warm, little one." Juliana whispered towards the Aloe Vera as she cautiously backfilled the pot with a soil she mixed with sand and perlite few moments ago. Caring for the plant surprisingly brought Juliana unexpected joy. Pleasure of doing something the correct way made her day better and when she watched her cutting of Aloe Vera while watering it until the soil around it remained moist, she felt proud of her work.
Grabbing the bag of dragon dung, Juliana didn't doubt her choice and decided to give her cutting of Aloe Vera a name Sylvia. "What a pretty name, isn't it? It means forest in Latin. I hope that thanks to the name, you will grow nicely. I really don't want to feel like I killed you by caring for you the incorrect way." Juliana didn't break her habit of talking to herself and when she put the bag of dragon dung back to its place, she carefully took the pot by its sides, searching for a location that would be bright but indirect towards sunlight.
It took Juliana one glance down to notice how badly she messed her gardening outfit. Oh, how grateful she was for the smart choice of clothes. "It seems like I have to go. Hope you'll be doing well, Sylvia." Juliana whispered those words once more to her plant before her kneeling session came to an end and left the club meeting right after she stood back up.
She couldn't wish for a better first experience at Hogwarts.

Ember was still new to, well, everything really. But she had still decided to sign up to this club despite being unsure of how everything worked. She figured she would learn in time. And, if anything, plants were a familiar presence, gardening an activity that made sense to her. Unlike a lot of the other things she had yet to learn. It was also important that she try to make friends, and what better way to do that then to meet other people who were also interested in plants?
Ah, introductions. "I'm Ember, a first year Hufflepuff. " She listened to the others introduce themselves, taking note of their names. Though Ember wasn't sure if she would remember them all.
Now onto the activity! Aloe Vera was something she was familiar with, in a muggle sense anyway. She wasn't quite sure if it was slightly different in the wizarding world. Ember picked out a pot with drainage holes, making sure that there were no cracks. Then she filled it up with soil part of the way, adding sand and perlite before mixing it. Ember carefully placed the aloe vera cutting within the pot, shifting soil over it to keep it in place. It looked so fragile, but she knew it would grow to be sturdier with time. She watered it, and added some of the dragon dung (she didn't know that was a thing!) as fertilizer. Finally she placed it in a location where it would receive some sunlight, but not too much. Perfect! "I think I'll name you Emerald. You like that?" she smiled, happy that it had been quite the fun first club meeting.

Heal the Burns with Aloe Vera
This year was gruelling. For numerous reasons, but the most being that third year just wasn't the same as first and second. It had more classes, more expectations, and if her family life was anything to go by, more changes. She'd shed that innocent, youthful gaze at the end of last year and coming back to Hogwarts for another round. She hadn't really gotten over Nan's death in April. Coupled with the fact that apparently Nan had actually hated her family for being half-blood and giving her home over to her vain, haughty Aunt was nothing of a surprise. The family had moved in with her Da's parents, muggles, and Summer had just been excruciating.
First few days of classes and the prefect had decided she needed to make herself as busy as possible. Signing up for this club had been one idea. The other...duelling. She'd taken a couple of requests for duel moderation, something she relished since she had only recently become a captain.
Having finished one such duel earlier in the day, she had made sure that Oliver and Zach were alright before grabbing her gardening supplies from her room and making her way over to the Greenhouse. Maybe it was the manure, or dirt, or the copious amounts of seedlings littering the tables, but Bea was finally at peace. All the constant nattering that she wasn't good enough or her family was ruined just. Stopped. A weight lifted off her chest, the anvil breaking into pieces like an Easter egg the more she walked into the Greenhouse. A few students were already here, a few she recognised. Some she didn't. It didn't matter, she was here for the plants. Smiling at Zach, who looked a bit rumpled from his duel earlier, she made her way over to a free space at one of the benches to dump her things on it. She would probably not need them, forgoing the tools to use the most primitive one of all time: her hands. She didn't care. Digging in the dirt was calming. It was home.
Reverently reaching out to touch one of the leaves, Bea half listened to Zach and the others as she filled the pot with soil and sand. Aloe, one of the best healing plants in her opinion, was a succulent. It needed good drainage. It would survive with little water, something she was grateful for in her busy schedule.
Packing the soil down with her hands, crumbs of sand now coating her fingers, she listened to the two first years introduce themselves, her eyes still downcast onto her pot. One was one of hers, an Eagle. She made a note of that. As a prefect, she knew the others would probably know who she was. Maybe not by face, but by name. Grabbing one of the little aloe seedlings, she placed it in the pot before looking up and around the room. Stroking the seedlings leaves, she smiled slightly. "I'm Beatrice Langstreth. Third year Ravenclaw." As an afterthought, she also added on, "And a prefect." It didn't make her whole identity but it would be important for others to know. Introduction finished, she went back to her pot, squishing the soil into the vacant spaces wherever she could. Was that a metaphor for her life right now? Time would tell.
Feel free to interact with Bea! She's a tired, unsociable girl right now though!

Zach was happy to see the many people attend this club meeting. He saw some familiar faces and some new ones. He was even surprised there were seniors who joined this club activity too, the famous Kim Sato and the prefect of Ravenclaw who was also his teammate in duelling last summer, Beatrice Langstreth. There was also a student who was in the same year as him. If he remembered her well, her name was Nyx. Some first-year students also joined this activity. One introduced her name as Juliana from Ravenclaw and the other introduced herself as Ember from Hufflepuff. Also, there was a student that he didn't know her name yet.
After making sure everyone got the equipment, Zach started his planting activity near a girl he didn't know her name yet. Before he squatted, he heard the girl introduce herself as Bex. Zach looked at the girl to see what she was doing. "Ah, she's talking to the plant," he mumbled. Zach nodded and continued his activity. The boy filled his pot with soil. "Sand and perlite..." He poured some of them into the soil. Then he placed the aloe vera cutting in the pot and filled it with soil again without burying the leaf. He took some water and poured some water on his plants. Not too much, not too few.
Uh, oh... What should I do? he thought. Being a club leader was a brand-new experience for him. Maybe I should check the others. The boy stood up to see what the members doing. He heard some of them named their aloe vera. Should I name mine too? He wondered what name suited his planty friend the best.
Zach continued to walk. After all, he didn't see anything wrong. Perhaps, the plants were too easy to plant. He just hoped nothing wrong would happen to them. "Alright, guys. After we finished planting the aloe, we can put it in the spot that has indirect sunlight. Please remember the position of your plants," he said. "Oh! And don't forget to clean whatever mess you made."
The boy went back to his aloe and put it near Bex's aloe. He smiled at it before he cleaned up the mess he made and perhaps if he found some mess around the greenhouse.Mentioning @Beatrice Langstreth, @Ember Candlelight, @Juliana Allen, @Kim Sato, @Rebecca Lark, @Estelle Nyx

𝕊𝕖𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕣 𝟚𝕟𝕕, 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟛 ℍ𝕖𝕣𝕓𝕠𝕝𝕠𝕘𝕪, 𝔾𝕣𝕖𝕖𝕟𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕤𝕖 @Zach ZaphiereElisa was still new to her surroundings as a first-year but when she heard of the Dittany's Club which was about growing and taking care of plants, she had to join it due to her love for gardening which was stored in her heart since she was a little girl. She also hoped to meet other plant lovers and maybe become friends with a couple of them.
Today was the first meeting of the club and Elisa entered the meeting spot with both excitement and nervousness in her heart, being a first-year and a newcomer did make things awkward for her while being around the others but she reminded herself to cool her mind, and started looking around to observe her surroundings. After a while, the club leader, Zach started talking and introduced himself and requested everyone to introduce themselves, Elisa patiently waited for her time to speak while everyone else started introducing themselves after a minute or two she finally spoke up,
"Hello, I am Elisa, a first-year Slytherin, pleased to meet you all"
She then once again waited for everyone to finish introducing themselves and then started paying attention to Zach who started explaining the activity they would be doing today, he then started distributing everyone the procedure paper which Elisa quickly accepted and started observing the procedure of planting the Aloe Vera, thankfully it was not a tricky process
Elisa then went over to the stacks of pots in the side and to her good luck she found a pot with sewage holes easily, She then picked up all the materials needed for planting the Aloe Vera plant before heading toward some benches where she placed the pots with the other materials, she then started to mix the soil with sand and perlite, until it was perfect mixed and then filled the pot with the newly mixed soil.
Then for the next step, Elisa picked some Aloe Vera cuttings before gently placing them inside the pot, she then started to backfill the pot while making sure that the leaves weren't buried, She then started to water the plant carefully until the soil was moist while making sure she wasn't overwatering it. The plant looked great which calmed Elisa's overthinking mind, it felt relaxing, She felt like she could do gardening all day long.
She then started adding Dragon Dung to it as a fertilizer, after it was done, Elisa glanced at the plant with awe, "You look gorgeous, I guess I will name you Flora, hope you will be fine the next time I come to visit you" she said to the plant before going to a corner of the greenhouse where indirect rays of the sun were falling, she gently placed the plant there, before glancing at it one last time and going over to the bench where she had previously done her work to clean the mess she had made, after making sure the plant was safe and the mess made by her was clean, Elisa then exited the greenhouse hoping deep inside that her plant be safe the next month she comes to visit it.
OOC NOTE- I joined recently, so I hope I'm not late in completing this task

But then, Kim always felt as if time flew when he was in the greenhouse. For whatever reason it was. Placing Aloe gently onto a surface with indirect sunlight, Kim made sure it was stable and brushed his hands off. He'd chosen a location near other plants but that also had a great view of the outside. Perfect. Kim started to clean up the area he'd been working at, picking up the larger bits. Then, he took out his wand, and pointed it at the area. "Scourgify!" The dark haired teen incanted and immediately, the area became clean of all dirt and the bits of mess he'd made were gone. If he'd been all alone, he might have done it manually. With his own two hands. If he did that, he could spend more time in the greenhouse as it would take longer. But as it was, he was in a club, it was probably a good idea to let the club leader run it. Kim lightly ran a finger along the leaves and leaned down to study Aloe for a few seconds. "I'll be back in awhile to check on you, Aloe." He murmured to the plant and glanced around for the club leader. Once he'd caught his eye, Kim raised a hand into the air to wave at him. "I'll see you at the next meeting, Zach. Zàijiàn!" It was the Mandarin word for goodbye With that, Kim left the greenhouse, not having talked to pretty much anyone, other than the initial greeting. |
