She blinked, and chaos erupted. With this being her first witnessed broom race, there was no doubt that Renelle had expected to be a bit lost about the exact details of the event from time to time, but this….. She sure was glad she was just a spectator.

Straining to take in the madness on the track, Renelle leaned forward so that she was at the edge of her seat, practically falling off, listening to the commentary as well as she could over the noises of the race and the crowds cheering their houses on. Next to her, Astra had pointed out a single player on the field, a white-haired racer on the Slytherin team, just before they all set off. It was too difficult to be up to speed on everything that was happening, so she settled for simply watching Astra’s friend. It was better than nothing.

She squinted closer. Colin McCoire, was it? Frankly, she had no idea if he could be considered a good racer or not- all the mayhem made it hard to focus on one’s flying skills. Though she supposed she was all right, seeing as he had evaded some spell from a girl on the Gryffindor side.

However, her attention was always immediately lured away by some giant Gryffindor throwing projectiles at a girl on the Slytherin team, taking her out. All right, were there no baselines to what could befall in broom racing? If this was what every race was like, Renelle was surprised that no one had died yet.

It was extremely possible, though, now that she thought about it, that students had met their untimely demise in this brutal sport, but that stain in Hogwarts history had been covered up. The more she mulled it over, the more it made sense. She had always believed the headmaster looked rather sketchy. Seeing him stuffing a poor kid’s body in a shack in the woods and sealing it up took little imagination.

All the Ravenclaw’s charming musings had made it so she was extremely out of speed on all that was happening in the race. A question by Astra took her right back, though she had to stare at the track for a few seconds before she could comprehend what her friend had just asked. “Uh, yeah.” She searched desperately for the deaf and blind girl Astra was talking about. Found her. “Yep, she does look a little lost, sitting there by herself, doesn’t she?”

And they were off. This track was a bit nasty (if the outcome of her badgers' race wasn't a testament to it), but what was even more nasty was the fact a literal giant was on the track. Alyssea shivered thinking about it; how would Hufflepuff even compete against them in the spring games next year?

Ava was the first to go down and Alyssea couldn't exactly blame her when she had a boulder chucked at her by the part-giant. How exactly are you supposed to survive that? Alyssea winced. "Yikes, that's gotta hurt."

She then returned to the question Raizel asked. "I'm not supporting anyone specifically from the teams. I'm mostly here for Zach; it's his first race that he's announcing for! That's gotta be nerve-wracking," she said.

That will be me soon, she thought as the race she remembered the game she would be announcing for next year. It looked both fun and... well, nerve-wracking.

Alyssea smiled. First races are always scary, but they would make for good memories. "I'm sure Ying will do great. She's one of their captains, right?" she asked. Alyssea hadn't had the chance to speak properly to any of the other captains, excluding the previous Hufflepuff captain George and Avery. Oh! And Zach, of course, but they knew each other before becoming captains. She hoped that would change over the next year or so.

And off the racers went. It was just the beginning of the race but things had gotten intense the moment it had started. One racer was down on the Slytherin team with Hugh, one of the Lions of course, threw something at her. She couldn't see what it was but the throw was enough to cause some major damage on the poor racer. "Ouch." Raizel winced. While that's one racer down from the Slytherin, she still can't help but feel bad for her.

Hopefully, her best friend won't be the next one going down. Speaking of which, she immediately scanned around, trying to find Ying and she was just in time to see her casting a spell but sadly her spell missed. "Tch. Close one." The lions are doing great although one of them seems to be having troubles in getting their head in the game. She wondered what happened then.

"Oh, right! Zach is watching over this race!" Upon being mentioned, the Gryffindor looked around to see the Ravenclaw. She wishes him luck and hopefully, no stray projectiles goes his way. "And yes, Ying's one of the captain." She answered Alyssea, turning her head to face her and then looking back at the race. "So far she is doing great! Keep at em!" When it come to cheering for her closest friends, this usually quiet Gryffindor could still be loud. "Ahahaha, I still can't help but worry sometimes." She grinned sheepishly but she trusts Ying's skills and her teammates of course. They'll be okay.

Everything was going absolutely crazy. Slytherin [June] barely in the lead, with two- wait, was that lioness [Xailah] flying backwards? And why was the co-cap flying so high? She supposed it made sense, but... well, wouldn't that make her an easy target?

And boy did that Gryff who missed the start [Della] catch up fast! The giant's [Hugh] assist had definitely helped her. Oh, but that girl [Ava] was out of the race, leaving four snakes on the field.

Astra stood as she saw Colin tumble back to the start, then her jaw practically dropped as he zoomed back into second-to-last, past the very person who had Flipendo-ed him. Go Colin! She glanced at Renelle. "This is insane," she whispered, sitting back down.

Racers zipped around, despite some [Ying] being seemingly disoriented, and others bleeding all over the place. Astra would never give up on Quidditch, of course, but she wondered... What if I did a race? Like, an unofficial one. When I get my own broom. That'd be cool.

There were also bruises around, as she recalled the two lions [Della & Xail] behind the leading snake [June] had hit trees as they went through, before coming to the place where the one decided to fly backwards?

Is that... "That- that looks like a boggart," she muttered, pointing to the illusion chasing after the Gryffindor and looking to Renelle. "Right? What else could do that? Why else would there be a panther and fire and... are those traps? This girl's fear was complex. And the boggart put it all on display

Alyssea watched the race and took note of the little results for each obstacle as Raizel talked. She wanted to just enjoy the thrill now that her badgers' race was done, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to learn every single thing about this sport, the ins and outs, the unspoken secrets of it all.

Zach was doing a pretty good job at announcing things, though she was hardly listening to his commentary. It wasn't that his commentary was less than entertaining, but listening to two people at once takes some brain power on top of studying the race.

Then came the surprise.

First, it was of the black-haired racers in Gryffindor who started flying backwards. Then, after a spell, it was Ying! It was the boggart, right? It had gotten Bubba in the Hufflepuff race which was both funny and concerning. His luck was incredible. Alyssea shrugged. "That boggart's not very nice. At least Ying isn't hitting any obstacles while flying away from it."

Broom racing was an interesting sport. Aside from flying hard and fast, people were throwing spells (or rocks if you were the part-giant) at each other and there could be literal boggarts on the track. There was a lot for Alyssea's little brain to comprehend, but for now, she was in awe.

While the girl's love had always been duelling, broom racing had a soft spot in her heart. It's the only broom sport that she was willing to participate in, unofficially of course. Things were heating up in the race, her eyes mostly on the lions and of course, the Hufflepuff who's with her right now. There were a lot of things going on there but she was mostly looking at her friend and sometimes, her fellow lions to see their progress.

What was that though, that thing that was currently chasing Ying and causing her to fly back out of fear. She swears that one was chasing another lioness but guesses it had found another target. "Ah, that's gotta be tough then." From what she could remember, there's a spell needed to banish the boggart and she's pretty sure 2nd years don't have access to it yet. There was someone in the race that could cast it though as seen when it was driven away from Xailah Alptraum. "Sure hope Ying escapes it and that it won't go to another person." She shudders thinking about facing a boggart. "I wouldn't want to be dealing with that."

That wasn't the only thing that was eye catching though for Hugh Lowe was just blatched by one of the Slytherin racers. That guy was huge and Raizel was even surprised that someone managed to do that. She won't lie, that was awesome of them even though one of the racers from her house got knocked off of their broom. They are still in the end and hopefully, it'll stay that way.
