Quidditch Gryffindor v Hufflepuff - Fall 2023

Sage looked around the area exhilarated. She was running on pure adrenaline. This was her very first quidditch game and despite the fact she would be sitting on the bench, she couldn’t wait for the game to begin. Grinning maniacally, she took a seat on the bench besides other benched players. Sage was barely able to contain her excitement as her hands shook.

The new school year certainly brought with it a renewed sense of excitement for the young Hufflepuff. Avery joined her teammates above the center of the pitch as both teams gathered, silently grateful for the clear morning as the sun illuminated the field. Finding her position, she taps the tip of her beater's bat lightly against her leg as the usual cocktail of pre-game nerves and eagerness settles in her stomach. The anticipation spent waiting for the whistle never failed to feel like the longest part of game days.

Koko was very excited, it was the first time she was going to be on the bench in a real quidditch match. Of course it wasn't the same as playing, but being on the bench was something. The day would come when she would take the field.

It’s been a pretty rough year for Alma so far. She hadn’t been nearly as “socially active” as she was last year. The burnout from Duelling had left her in a sad sort of state and she hadn’t interacted much with her friends outside of shared classes and dorms of course.

She was hoping that the Quidditch season would spark some new motivation for her, and that she would finally get up out of her dorm and go do something productive; perhaps she could go to Diagon Alley with Avery, or take Finn for a walk around the castle. Maybe ask Howard for another private lesson.

Speaking of her teammates and her opponent, she scanned the pitch and gave a small sigh. She was ready to start up the season again.

The blanket had made a comeback. Short and small, it was more like a wide cape that reached his knees. Red and gold with a newly added Gryffindor emblem on one side so the boy could claim house spirit whenever he brought it to practice or matches while he was on the bench. It was pinned to his shoulders, mostly draped over his right arm and ready to be thrown down onto the nearest bench or tempting spot on the ground as he watched his teammates play.

Of course, Finn had to comment on his habits…

He rolled his eyes, half heartedly making a swipe that wouldn’t connect towards the boy's head. “Give me something worthwhile to watch and maybe I won’t.” He ribbed, waving part of his blanket cape as if a threat he’d sleep through the match.

Not that @Finnegan Conner would know…but it was truthfully an empty threat this time. The week leading up to the game had actually been, dare he say it, pleasant. The lack of sweater thefts had not escaped his notice, nor the obvious pause on trying to hide his things or overall mini grudge match brewing between the two of them.

Elsian for his part had been all too happy to take the break. And, perhaps, out of pity because there was no way he was just being nice…had made sure to attend all the recent practices on time-ish AND even get enough sleep to avoid any napping while the game played due to it. Not that Finn could know.

That wouldn’t stop him from being comfortable though as he, hopefully, kept to the sidelines. He just hoped Elena gave 'em hell so he didn’t have to.

A cool and clear day, at last there was an acceptable setting for the great battle that was yet to unfold. Gryffindor was formidable in their own right and Ethen doubted they would roll over without the promise of extremely delicious biscuits. Biscuits that Ethen simply didn't have. In fact, he had no biscuits with him. Likely because it was a Quidditch game and biscuits were not usually part of his kit. Although a mid-game snack might be exactly what he needed to win.

Shaking his head, Ethen cleared his mind of all biscuit related thoughts. With a game to play, he knew he needed to be focused and at the top of his game. Taking to his position, Ethen stretched out his arms and neck while humming a whimsical diddy to himself. He kept his breathing steady and felt relaxed despite the pressure of the game. He knew that he had to expect some level of aggression from their opponents, so if he didn't want to wake up in a hospital bed he knew he had to actually pay attention.

So shifting his weight slightly on his broom, Ethen waited for the start and the chaos to unfold.

Tes was buzzing with excitement. After what felt like months not feeling like herself, she finally felt aglow with joy once more. She was on the starting line for the quidditch team! The day was beautiful, and so was her mood. She shot Madison, the new second string chaser a big thumbs up, and gave Sage a passing high five, the new benched beater. She hoped Sage would get a chance at playing, but the realization that that would come at the cost of her or Avery being off their brooms had her scratching her head and grimacing at the thought. She didn’t want to get knocked off her broom again. Once had been enough, but it was part of the game so she wasn’t too concerned if it happened again.

“Woo hoo! Let’s go Hufflepuff!” She cheered loudly, standing next to Avery and bouncing on her toes. Across the pitch she recognized her friend Hannah, and waved enthusiastically. “Hi Hannah! I can’t believe we’re playing against each other! Good luck!” She readjusted her bat in her left hand- her dominant hand -and grinned at the sky.

"Oh, this is going to be one heck of a match!" Ethan stretched his arms, popped his knuckles, and took a bouncy run-up like he was gearing up for the ultimate air-bound throw down. "NO giving up, NO backing down, NO turning back now!" He clapped his hands loudly. Grabbing his broom with both hands and mounting the seat, he was ready to get the game started.

“Let’s go Huffles!" Atlas shouted as she beat her chest and let out an obnoxious cheer. Gryffindor could be a tough enough opponent but Atlas had full faith that her team was ready for the challenge. She felt loose already and knew she would be fast enough to keep her posts defended. With how violent some of the recent games had been, her primary concern was the safety of her teammates. The faster they could take Gryffindor down, the faster they could start their celebrations.

Taking a deep breath, Atlas slowly exhaled as she adjusted her hands on her broomstick. With the clear skies, she had a clear view of the pitch and the quickly assembling opponents. There was a tension in the air, a silent anticipation. Atlas reveled in the challenge to come. She felt energized by the impending competition and a smile fixed itself to her lips.

While there were a few fierce competitors on the other side, Atlas knew that the determination of the Flying Badgers was never to be doubted or underestimated. Settling into position, Atlas shot glances to each of her teammates, lingering slightly on her curiously humming boyfriend. As expected, they all looked ready as they waited for the game to begin.

If an attempt to score has been blocked through this effect, the Keeper may as a free action hurl the quaffle at the opponent team in an attempt to injure a player of their choice (it would be recovered with a quaffle grab action) and treated like a bludger or pass the quaffle to a team mate. This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Evasive Maneuvers
Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separately from the attack roll.
