Constance's dialogue - x

Slinging her bag over her shoulder, Constance giddily makes her way out to the courtyard. The weather outside was just how she liked it- cool and fresh. The perfect climate to get some personal research done. Today, just like any other day, Constance would continue her reading and research on her obsession of dark creatures that often consumes her mind. Her parents like to blame this fascination on her uncle, as he is a researcher of dark creatures. While it's true that he was the one to ignite this interest in Constance, the countless hours of reading and research these past couple of years have been by her own voalition.

Opting to sit on the ground, Constance rests her back on the stone walls surrounding the courtyard. The coolness of the material was quite comforting, and it put Constance in a peaceful state of mind. She was fully prepared to have a time of uninterrupted work, just her and her own thoughts.

Setting her bag down, Constance takes out her books, parchment, quills, and ink. The thought of learning something new about her favorite topic ever was enough to put a smile on her face. The courtyard was quiet, with very few students standing around. To put it plainly, it was the perfect environment for Constance. While the thought of being able to gush to someone about vampires and werewolves did sound fun, Constance's mind was in work mode. She was fully prepared to get some reading and notes done.

Opening one of the books before her, Constance begins to read a passage on werewolves. Occassionally taking notes, she soon becomes engrossed in the words on the page. Constance's total focus was on the book in her hands. To the sparce number of students passing by her, it almost looked as if nothing could grab her attention away from her work. Almost.

Es was humming to herself and reading as she crossed the courtyard. Her book was an exciting pirate fantasy novel, with lots of sword fighting and swashbuckling and she was absolutely engrossed in it.

She had bought it from home - it had been a present from her mum during the holidays - and had not yet finished it, although she had got to the climax of the book.

Three months seemed like a very long time to finish a book, but Es read quite slowly, savouring every word. She liked to replay the scenes in her head at night when she wanted to fall asleep. They always left her with pleasant dreams - ones of adventure and freedom.

Es continued reading as she walked. People often told her not to read while walking but so far she had only walked into a lamppost once. Well, twice, she supposed - there was that time with the dog and...

Es focused back on the book. She had a tendency to zoom out and distract herself, going on wild tangents that were completely unrelated to where she started and she wanted to finish the book. She needed to know what would happen.

She walked down the stairs and out into the fresh air of the courtyard. Still reading, she turned and walked next to the stone wall. Es noticed a girl sitting and attempted to walk around her, but - being the klutz she is - tripped instead, falling in a heap of limbs into the other girls' lap.

Constance's dialogue - x

Looking up from her work, Constance notices a Gryffindor girl with pink and blue hair tips walking by. She seemed quite engrossed in whatever she was reading, a feeling to which Constance mentally related to. Constance wondered what she was reading that could possibly be that interesting. However, other people probably said the same things about Constance whenever her nose was stuck deep in a book, so she decided to let that thought go. After taking a moment to marvel at her hair color, Constance looks back down at her book and immediately returns to her zone of focus. That is, until she hears a slight yelp and feels the weight equivalent of a human fall onto her.

Blinking, Constance stares down at her lap for a split second. It was that same Gryffindor, the one with the colorful hair. She had tripped while reading, and not so graciously fallen onto Constance. With a nervous laugh, Constance helps up the mystery girl and returns her to her footing. Glancing back down at her lap, Constance quickly shuts the cover of her book and moves her rolls of parchment out of sight, mentally praying that no pages had been ripped or crumpled by the sudden fall of the girl standing before her. It was not a rare for someone to tease Constance about her work, having a slightly too enthusiastic interest in dark creatures certainly wasn't the norm. Especially not for 11 year old girls.

Shaking away the lingering thoughts about her work, Constance turns her brain back to the situation at hand. The Gryffindor girl appeared to be mostly physically okay, but mentally could be a different story. Trying to ease away the awkward tension that surrounded the two girls, Constance looks up and gives her intruder a small smile. "Are you okay? That was quite the fall." Constance then let out a small giggle and spoke up again. "It would probably help to not read while you're walking."

Constance helped Es up. Es immediately apologised for tripping onto her. She truly hadn't been looking where she was going, lost in the book, and although she had been looking around her with her peripheral vision, the book obscured her vision of the floor below, hence the fall.

As Es apologised, she noticed the other girl tucking her book behind her back. What was she reading? It must have been something secret, possibly forbidden. Es wondered how she'd got it. She couldn't help asking, as overwhelmed with curiosity as she was. Before she could ask, the girl smiled and talked to her.

"The perils of walking and reading are bad, but if you don't want to put down your book, they outweigh the risks."

She said this in her best fantasy queen voice, as if she was quoting some long-lost law of the universe.

Now she had answered the question, she had the perfect opportunity to ask. Still, the girl had tucked the book behind her for a reason. Maybe she shouldn't''t mention it and pretend that she hadn't seen it. It was probably for the best.

She was about to thank the girl and get back to her book when a wave of curiosity overcame her. She just had to know what was in that book! Call her dramatic, she knew she was, but it felt as if she had missed out on a piece of knowledge crucial to humanity. She just had to ask!

"What were you reading?"

Constance's dialogue - x

Taking note of the Gryffindor girl's prying eyes, Constance's cheeks slightly flushed with embarrassment. Her mind flickered to all the times she had been made fun of for her reading choices, and Constance was not in the particular mood to be picked not. Not like she ever was in that mood. Yet, the words of the Gryffindor girl eased Constance's emotions. She herself seemed to be quite the bookworm, perhaps she could understand Constance somewhat.

The girl standing before Constance asked the inevitable question- what were you reading? After internally debating with herself, Constance decided to pull her book back out, exposing the cover to the Gryffindor girl. The cover looked quite ominous, with a monochrome black background. The title of the book simply depicted what Constance had been reading about- dark creatures. "It's...a book about dark creatures. I had been reading about werewolves in particular."

With a sheepish smile, Constance opens her book back up to the page she had left off on. She turns the book to face the Gryffindor girl, allowing her to get a good look at what Constance had been exactly reading. Constance then remembered that the Gryffindor girl had also been reading, which was what ultimately lead to their strange yet charming encounter. Sneaking a peek at the girl's book, the cover seemed to appear to display some sort of fantasy story. Constance was glad that they shared a common love of reading, and she was eager to get the spotlight off of herself and her odd literary choices.

Putting her notes away, Constance faces the Gryffindor girl. "That's quite a nice novel you've got there. You seemed to be quite engrossed in it, it must've been an exceptional story." Smiling at the Gryffindor girl, Constance realized that she had forgotten to introduce herself. She was so worried over what the Gryffindor girl would think about her, that she had forgotten to ask such a simple question of "what is your name". "Oh...I'm Constance, by the way."

Estelle's eyes glistened with excitement the moment she saw the cover. A book about magical creatures - especially ones seen as dark - was exactly what Es had been hoping for. Well, kind of - obviously she hadn't predicted that that was the book that the girl would be reading, but it did provide Es with the perfect conversation starter.

However, the girl beat her to it. Werewolves absolutely intrigued Es, even before she had known that they were real she had grown up watching TV shows about werewolves. In fact, one of her favourite shows was about werewolves. It had been really interesting to see which parts of the mythology were real and which were made up.

Estelle hoped that Constance also shared her interest for studying magical creatures - maybe they could be friends. It would be nice to be able to discuss magical creatures with someone, rather than just reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them over and over.

"I'm Estelle. It's really exciting - full of pirates and magic and mystery. But enough about my book. What are your opinions on magical creatures such as werewolves - I want to be a magiczoologist when I'm older and I'm kinda hoping that you're interested in it too, based off of the book that you are reading? I mean, if your not then never mind and if you think that magical creatures don't deserve rights I'll gladly argue with you, but I'm hoping that you also like this stuff"

Estelle grinned nervously. She hadn't meant to blurt all of that out, but she did stand by what she'd said.
