They were back at Hogwarts. Great. This place held many, many bad memories for Alaric and it ranged from girl trouble to Slava trouble. Alaric grimaced as he remembered what happened last month, memories clawing at his brain like a beast in the night. Hogwarts was a cesspool of disease. It changes people. Infects their very being. They let a freaking Werewolf teach children about Defence Against the Dark Arts! The Havertz boy rolled his eyes as he walked past two girls, they were talking in hushed whispers and pointing to a group of boys. There was two boys holding hands. Alaric saw a girl and a boy smiling like lovesick puppies and it made him wanna knock their heads together; love is boring. You find someone that you would do anything for and then they rip your heart out.
Alaric inwardly groaned, he hadn’t thought about the rejection from the Finnish girl in ages and now these walls bring it back like a dog playing fetch.
"Alaric? Is that you?" Alaric stopped and saw that Lucian was just walking upstairs. "Hallo Cousin," (hello) he greeted, the slightly younger boy hiding a laugh as Lucian didn’t even bother to try and use a German accent.
"Das war furchtbar, Cousin." Alaric commented, bringing him in for a hug. Lucian shrugged with a smirk of his own and they moved to the side so that they didn’t get bumped into by careless students. "Ich hasse es, hier zu sein," Lucian rolled his eyes at Alaric’s remark. "Ja?" the German boy pried.
"If you don’t like it, why are you here? Idiot," he joked. Alaric didn’t find it funny.
"Ich möchte nicht der Einzige in der Schule sein," he replied with faux sadness, Lucian pushed him gently and the pout turned into a shit-eating grin. "I want to make trouble," he admitted and Lucian nodded along with this revelation. "And Klaus is not coming,"
"Ja. There we go," he said right after and Alaric laughed. He liked Lucian. Possibly one of the only relations he has that he does like. He wasn’t some stuck up guy like his brother. "I didn’t know you were coming,"
"Do I give you letters every time?" Alaric asked with a heavy accent.
"No," Luci replied in a light tone. "But… after last time I didn’t think you would—"
"Hast du ein Date?" Lucian seemed blindsided at the sudden topic switch and stammered for a reply.
"Uh- uh no. With urm, with my last date going to Durmstrang, ironically, and the first love of my life…" Alaric winced as Lucian spoke. Yikes. He forgot about that. Both people he grew close to shipped to Durmstrang, the school he attended.
"Ich kann ihnen sagen, dass du Hallo gesagt hast?" Ric offered awkwardly. Lu sent him a thankful smile.
"Möchten du etwas Lustiges unternehmen?" (Do you want to do something fun) Lu asked, his English accent painfully clear. It killed Alaric every time. He needed to speak German more.
"Of course," Alaric replied. "Aber was?" He really did want to have some fun, he wanted to either do a prank or cause some mischief but he didn’t know what.
The two boys sat on the floor in silence. Everyone else passing them by like no one’s business. Many ideas were shot down— well no, many of Alaric’s ideas were shut down and the English boy was getting more fed up than he was willing to let on this in turn annoyed Alaric who started to fidget, boredom also being a factor, which annoyed Lucian even MORE.
How this was possible, Lar did not know, but it happened. "Alaric! Just shut up," Lucian finally snapped, standing up and leaning against the wall. Alaric stopped moving and slowly stood too.
"Wo ist die Toilette?" Alaric asked, his voice firm and anger in his eyes. Lucian gave him directions and Alaric stalked off. "Stinkstiefel," he grumbled.

The other were coming to Hogwarts today, those from the other schools, for the ball that is. Lucian wasn’t sure if his cousins were coming, he really hoped that Klaus didn’t come. He wasn’t prepared to deal with that fear every time he saw him in the corridors. Alaric… the boy was weird. He was different. She wasn’t like anyone he had ever met— not even Malakai and that boy was weird too. He suspected there was something more to Malakai, he just hadn’t asked. He was certain that his parents knew, for starters they would have probably told by his social worker but they also weren’t stupid. With Alaric, nobody thought there was anything wrong with him. He was just Alaric, you know, but Luci felt bad for the kid.
He was lost in these thoughts as he went up the stairs. He planned to head to the owlery and owl his Uncle Henri to ask. He had to, the curiosity was killing him. He got up the stairs and that’s when he saw him, woah weird. Turns out Alaric, at least, was coming to the ball! He greeted him, electing to speak in German for his cousins sake. Lu saw the amusement radiate off of Ric. "Ich kann immer Englisch sprechen. Moron," (I can always speak English) Lucian teased, pushing him slightly. "Why do you look so miserable?"
"I hate being here," so dramatic Lucian rolled his eyes which made Alaric pry for information.
"Well if you don’t like it, why are you here? Idiot," he asked, not really joking. He knew that Alaric had a mindset that matched his Grandads, that matched Alaric’s parents. Yes, he wasn’t as stuck up as Klaus but he was loud and brash and that made him worse in Lucian’s eyes. Yes, Luci agrees with most of the things but he isn’t that loud about it. Alaric would happily shout his hatred from the rooftops whereas Lucian is more for the quiet hisses. He thought back to when Amaris questioned him, how loud she was.
His cousins reply made Alaric snort, Alaric was a social creature but if he hated this place that bad he would not come. Even if the entire building was deserted he would stay at Durmstrang! Give him more time to set traps aka pranks! He shoved him again and Alaric’s pout turned to a grin. "I want to make trouble," he said in English, with Lucian speaking at the same time as him with “There we go,” although this time it was Lu’s turn to smirk at his accent. "Ja okay, okay. Lustig," (yes/funny) the younger boy said.
"Karma dear cousin," Lucian retorted, but he was happy with the knowledge that Klaus would be staying faaaaar away. He looked at Ric, "I didn’t know you were coming,"
"Do I give you letters every time?" Lucian took a while to understand what he meant. Lu could tell he was joking but a hint of annoyance fluttered around.
He shook his head, "Of course not. No," he answered, "But after last time I didn’t think you would-" Alaric quickly changed the subject and it through the English boy off, although he understood that he didn’t want to talk about it. "No, I don’t have a date. Uh- uh no. With urm, with my last date going to Durmstrang, ironically, and the first love of my life…" he replied awkwardly. He thought of Ree and Ash… but for the first time he didn’t get the usual flash of pain. Instead… he just felt happy. The memory of them made him feel warm and fuzzy not cold and spiky. Lucian thought he could cry but he shook himself out of his stupor and turned his attention back to Alaric. The boy must have got the awkward atmosphere and stammered out a response that he could greet them for him. "That would be sweet, thanks," he said with a nod. The Heir then decided it would be best if he got the mood happier, suggesting they have some fun.
Gosh, he wish he just brought the boy outside so they could run around or sneak off and he could belt bludgers at him.
They had moved off to the side and were treating to come up with ways of having fun. Lucian was hard in thought but Alaric, Merlin Alaric, he just came bursting out with ideas every 5 seconds. It’s like his brain didn’t have an off switch. Slowly he got bored and started fidgeting too! Tapping his legs, making random noises, putting his hand on his mouth repeatedly to make a noise. He then started to pat his legs and the sound was driving Lucian bananas.
"Was ist, wenn man jemanden verhext?” no
"Jemanden dazu bringen, einen schimmeligen Kürbis zu essen?" definitely not.
"Jemanden umstoßen?" what? No!
"Ric. Das machen wir nicht! We are not hexing someone, or having someone eat mouldy food OR pushing someone over. We want to have fun, not be a delinquent," (We are not doing this) Lucian said as calmly as he could. The best inside him was also getting pissed off by the incessant chatter. There was quiet before Alaric started again, his mouth moving faster than Lucian could process. "Alaric! Just shut up!" he finally snapped, standing up in a huff and leaning against the wall, eyes closed. He heard the other boy get up too, swallowing hard. He gave Alaric instructions and didn’t even watch as he stalked off, his hearing catching Alaric mutter under his breath how he is a “smelly boot”. "Prick," Luci said himself.
Lucian sat back down and out his head in his lap. Idiot. Lucian has already deduced that Alaric can’t exactly help his behaviour, no matter how annoying it is. He also knew that Alaric was just trying to help and that he hasn’t always been good at planning. He thought quicker than he sift through the idea. He would tell you outcome not how you get to the outcome. Yes. Lu felt like a tool.
How could he make it up? Perhaps if he pranked Alaric himself? Well, he has gone to the bathroom! Lucian grinned and scampered off to the bathroom, hiding a little to see if he could spot the younger boy. No. He was still in. Lucian walked inside and saw that no one was actually in here apart from one shut door! Lucky. Lucian slowly crept in, holding his breath, and into a cubicle. Quietly closing the door but not locking it.
Lucian could bear Alaric muttering to himself in— aww. Lucian felt his heart go. His little cousin was reciting the Finnish alphabet! Wasn’t his girl from Finland? That was cute. "Better go," he mumbled, leaving the cubicle. Lucian heard the sink and so put his plan into action. He carefully opened the door and crept out, inching closer to Alaric.
"ALARIC!" he shouted, grabbing the boy.
"WUU—" Alaric unconsciously swung back, Lucian didn’t expect that and tried to dodge but Alaric just clipped him. "LUCIAN!" Lucian scrambled away and legged it out of the bathroom, sprinting down the hallway. He wasn’t looking where he was going, Alaric was hot on his tails. Lucian had experience from running away from people and Alaric had the same— apart from he was the one chasing people. "I WILL RECEIVE YOU!" Lucian couldn’t help the belly laughter that erupted from him, as he did he wasn’t looking and full on crashed into someone.
"Ow," he complained, looking behind him and seeing Alaric closer. Lucian scrambled to his feet (almost falling over the girl again) and looked back at her, "SORRY LOVE," he called back, continue running, flashes of curly brown hair fluttering past his eyes. No, she had blonde hair. Blonde straight hair. She was definitely a first year; he had never seen her around before. Her blonde hair and blue eyes standing out—
Blue eyes—
"Your eyes are-"
Lucian stopped himself from falling into a memory.
He can’t think of him every time he sees blue.
He isn’t his blue eyed boy anymore.
Lucian’s mouth felt dry as he tore his gaze away from the beautiful girl, turning the corner…
