Summer Duels, Game 4: Guests vs. Ravenclaw

Giggling softly, she listened to her teammate joking around as well. "Thank you, you are too kind!" she yelled back at the boy. Wow... Did the kid just say she wasn't hot enough? So terribly rude, maybe they didn't have manners where he was from. "I don't need any help." As she spoke the words, she put one of her hands on her hip and gave him a sassy look. Her boyfriend found her pretty enough and she was quite happy with her appearance, so she didn't care about the stranger's opinion. Samantha resisted the urge to mock the boy and focused on the duel.

Her own spell missed, but her partners managed to hit Akira. With a pleased smile, she watched at the boy fall down. During her first duels, she had hated it to see people get unconscious but now she was used to it. Besides, the nurse always managed to get people up and running again. "Good job, guys!" she smiled at Eun-ji and Cassius.

Summer Break, 2023

"Ventus!"

From the tip of Cassius’ cherry wand, a gray jet of spiraling wind shot forth across the duelling floor. The Ravenclaw hid his shock as the gusts of wind, intended for Rodion, expanded out of control to envelope Akira as well. He was grateful the guest team had declined to target him yet again as it took all of his concentration, and a firm footing, to maintain the powerful force of the wind jinx. Had he been targeted, he doubted he would have been able to dodge incoming spells and maintain the jinx.

Cassius was grateful, too, that his teammates had not suffered any negative effects. A quick glance in both their directions confirmed that they were still standing, not on fire, and not facing some other inconvenient setback. In all, it was a successful round for the Ravenclaw team. The trio were synergizing well and Cassius looked to keep that synergy going.

As the final gust of gray wind left the tip of his wand, Cassius shifted his footing and rolled his shoulders, prepared for their next moves.

Eun-ji didn’t really intercept the banter that was going on but a corner of her lips twitched when Cassius jumped in. Ha…a good one. She thought, somewhat amused before refocusing on her next move. Naturally, their main target was still Akira. It may have not been the most noble strategy but it worked. Duelling was quite a cruel sport at times.

In the end, the round went pretty smooth for the Ravens. Milosh was busy searching for his wand and the two other boys seemed to freeze momentarily. Akira was probably hurt an tired at this point so it was no wonder he did but she wasn’t sure about Rodion. Either way, good for us I suppose. Eun-ji had no time to delve into the matter any further. She watched her flipendo hit the intended target and winced…it was clear their opponent would go down before Cassius Ventus fully reached him. He was in a bad shape. The witch was almost glad, Sam’s spell veered off course. She still didn’t enjoy watching other people get knocked out. Even during the team practices, she would be there to help whenever necessary.

“M-hm” Eun-ji nodded in agreement. She did not get the same enjoyment from watching Akira fall as their captain did but she was definitely proud of their teamwork. They were doing well.

It turned out his guts feeling was right all along. When things are too good to be true, the chaos is lurking in the shadow, ready to surprise him anytime. Because he didn’t gracefully evade that wind. It wasn’t great. The wind did not just blow his hair and make him 50% hotter as if he were in a music video. It made his speed decreases and he did not like it. Also, may Akira rest in peace.

More than ever, it seemed that the loss of their ally had robbed the guest team of its momentum. Of the two boys, only Milosh pulled off a spell, but the wind jinx fell short of its target, Samantha, freeing her to target Rodion--who was fighting his own wind jinx still and had not yet cast--with a tickling charm. Julian winced in sympathy. The tickling charm was pretty harmless, as it went, but it was an unpleasant experience and he couldn't imagine how anyone would manage to keep their balance while racked by laughter while caught in such a strong gust.

To top it all off, Eun-Ji and Cassius both aimed spells at both remaining boys, and while Cassius' seemed to peter out at his wand, Eun-Ji's aim was unerring and both Milosh and Rodion soon found themselves without one of their senses, thanks to the twin thick blindfolds obscuring their vision

Immediately the first round back from grasping his wand, he was ready to jump into action. But then as he turned around, blackness eveloped him. His hand reached up, a cloth now covered his vision. Obscuro. Such a nasty, trickster spell. Another string or curse words hit him. How could it have gone from bad to worse. It wasn't even remotely fair at this point, but he had to do something about it. He couldn't quit. He just had to hope. Any ounce of luck and faith that he had left would be poured out into thw rest of this match. Maybe, just maybe, they could pull it off. Or at the very least, wipe some smirks off their face.

This was good. Eun-ji didn’t know what was going on but Rodion continued to space out, which was a great advantage for her team. Honestly, she almost felt sorry for Milosh. Especially when his own spell missed and his team did no damage this round. The three Ravens on the other hand, continued to do a pretty good job. Cassius failed to cast his spell in the end but Sam successfully hit her target and so did she.

Now both of their opponents were blindfolded. Eun-ji was in the same situation just few moments prior to this so she knew it must have been pretty frustrating. Well...I guess, I’m just paying them back. Now they just had to make most of the situation.

"Incendio Duo!"

Wand raised at his opponents, Cassius anxiously awaited the appearance of the green flames of the spell only to find... nothing. Had he mispronounced the spell? Whatever had happened, it was clear the expected result had not occurred and instead the young Ravenclaw was relegated to attempting to avoid any incoming spells. Again, luckily for him, none were directed towards him.

His teammates found more success with their spells and now both opponents were blindfolded. Convenient and somewhat pleasing as it seemed just retribution for the blindfolding of Eun-ji just moments before. Some might argue at this point it would be unfair to continue, with both opponents unable to see and therefore avoid any incoming spells; but, this was duelling and he was in it to win.

Wand raised, he prepared for their next moves.

With both of their opponents blindfolded, the Ravenclaw team wasted no time in pressing that particular advantage, and Samantha and Eun-Ji immediately landed twin Wind Jinxes on each of the two boys. Cassius attempted his previous move again, with only marginally more success. He did manage to produce the requisite flame from his wand this time, but neither of the spells made contact. One of them whooshed slightly to the right of Rodion's head, while the other seemed to shoot closer to Samantha than anyone on the other team. Julian shot the Ravenclaw boy a quizzical look. Maybe he was getting tired?

Rodion definitely must be there already. While his teammate managed to pull off his blindfold off quite deftly, Rodion didn't seem even willing to try. Julian bit his lip. Would they take it poorly if he asked whether he wanted to continue at all?
